@@paso193 Oh I tried. I just don't understand what in fuck he is doing with that lick. I can play it decent my own way. But I don't understand what in hell he is doing and why. The process of learning this licks are very good, as long as you practice it in perfect form. Speed is demonstrated once you can perform the technical form of these without flaw in execution and tone variations. I found that on regular guitar, in to a normal amp with one gain pedal, Its ease of application is evident. But, on amps with high gain and pedals with high gain, that allow sustain to hold in large quantities of time. This is a process of real perfection to get the tones correct.
In the past several months, I ve carefully come to the realization that clear and clean, in reference to guitar notes and the value of audience, say more in silence than a herd of folks will say in a roaring saloon. So clean and crystal clean phrasing, no slop no mess and no loud drone or squeal lasting longer the a dot. James give all you have to the students that need to learn. And even more to those who want to learn. I feel better when I think that students do it right. So they can become the master of the stroke and leader of the pack. Enjoy your ears James, I always do when Listening to new lessons and new phrases not in the least bit does it matter how long or how fresh or how good. I love it all.

Interestingly enough, after practicing your sets, I end up with the 5 note passages as follows. 12, 34, 5 12 34 5 just as you set up the 12 34 on two strings I just added the 5 on the top of the 3 and back to one. I thank you for allowing the practice public to gander your progressive licks and the opportunities to stylize them in such a wonderfull and easy progression. Even on an acoustic with heavy strings the 13 e string and the 17 b string bend wonderfully on the frets you use. simply outstanding. I do want your students to make hugh forward improvement as you have taught these. Simply an outstanding opportunity.

Move on to the B string now and pull off 13 to 10. Then move onto G string and sliide 13 down to 12, pull it off to 10. Then play 12 and end with some wide vibrato. James ...THANKS YOU !!! Can you do more of these famous guitar licks videos ?? Also can you concentrate on the picking hand too ?? It looks, that when you speed up, the picking changes to less actual picking or like sweeping thru strings and that has been my BIG REAL PROBLEM ! Thanks for this awesome lesson !! btw, kick ass sound & nice harley benton !!
Cool thanks for watching! Yeah...some people have said I don't mention the picking so much in this lesson. Hi there. It was great that guitar, but I don't have it anymore! It was a Harley Benton and absolutely amazing for such a cheap instrument. Definitely recommend them. Thanks for watching! James
Heyy awesome tutorial I'm ok at soloing but I'm crap at doing little quick rock licks I can do the second one but can't get the speed. How would I improve on my speed. This may be a dumb question haha.
+Ben Beattie Hi Ben...not a stupid question at all! I've got a video here that might help - my first video so not one of my best! But the content and methods in it are great for building speed. Give it a go. Any other questions just shout! Have fun and here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/VOuXUEa2seE/v-deo.html
James what about a 5 note triplet.... going 1 2 3 4 5 in a syncopated 5 ....I don't see it being done at all. But the modern speed metal has several variations to that staccato beat in the count up to 7 or 8. Filling a quick pace with a slow off center beat on the 3 and the 5.....I m not sure I m saying it right but I took one of the multi layered beats you gave us here and stepped out to the 5......but in a 4/4 or other even bar beat it doesn't set well. In the speed pace it fits because there in multi layered beats inside the pattern as a whole. I m asking if the 5 3 /2 is a normal pattern in modern mode.
Hi Jed. Sounds cool what you've been doing! Groups of 5 aren't as common as 4 and 3 note groups like you say - but you can sure make them work with a bit of experimentation. It's the sort of thing you'd hear a band like Dream Theatre do and some of the other more adventurous rock and metal bands. Keep having fun with it! j
Thanks james. When I m able I d like to take a month of your program and see where I can regain some lost skills. Will keep you in my to do file. I see you regularly and know you are knowledgeable. It's your positive person that ales me feel it's worth catching up again
brilliant lesson, are there any more of these you can teach? Also, can you do the same backing tracks but have different versions where speed increases gradually.
+Voxboy876 Hi there. Thanks...glad you enjoyed the lesson. More at jamesshipwayguitar.com by the way! Anyway...it's a Harley Benton Les Paul copy. Damned cheap guitar...but I'll tell you it's one of the best I've ever owned, and I've had some pretty expensive gear in the past. Don't know how it can be so good for the price - it should be junk! Check them out if you're after a nice Gibson copy...their SG's are great too. Hope that answers your question. Cheers! James
hey hi how do you mute strings when switching strings quickly, i am good at it when playing normally but at high speed the string above the stings that i bend rings....
Hi there, the secret is to check you're muting any bass strings with your picking hand. Then check your fretting fingers are touching the strings either side of the one you are playing. If you're touching the string above the one you're bending it should not ring out. Takes a little practice but that's how it's done. Hope that's clear...if not ask me again. Cheers, James
Hi there. I often do use my little finger for playing scales and licks, but not so much these blues/pentatonic kind of licks. I did used to do it that way until I noticed that a lot of players who sounded better than me weren't! I find it easier to stretch up with my 3rd finger lots of the times and fnd the licks sound more punchy, faster and easier to play! Thanks for watching, James

I am truly amused now James, I ve been turned into a fret monsther....My 5 pattern turned into a 8, 9. and even a 10 note passage, repeated intervals on 3 strings. All because, you broke it to a single double, a double single and the variety of there to in different sring repeats. You ve created another eddie. or Joe, or something. Now to get it to the even and odd pattern beat. and the repeat string opportunity changing from one to three different strings. I hope you ve had a great day. I ve found note groove. thanks for taking me out of the 70s and skynyrd protocol.
James its I thanking you. There is much to be thankful for. That you do not do things in such a way as to confuse your audience is the best of the many opportunities you provide. Again, it is I thanking you.

+Ken Skid Hi Ken - thanks for your question. You're pretty much right - get the lick together at a slow speed and then gradually speed it up over time. Push yourself to get it faster but also work on anything in the kick that is holding you up at a slower speed. Check out my How To Play Faster lesson. It's one of my first videos , production not brilliant but shows you some cool ways to get faster. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/VOuXUEa2seE/v-deo.html God luck mate! James
+James Shipway Guitar thanks. I'm 53 and been playing songs for 30 years. Can play bluesy bends and know the basics for sure. Just never actually tried to get fast. Trying now though.
+Ken Skid Cool Ken. All the songs and blues based playing is more important in my opinion! But a bit of speed definitely is an effective soloing tool so go for it. Focus on getting faster at things you're going to use lots would be my advice - then easy to slot some quicker ideas into your playing. Have fun and join my mailing list for members only lessons (just grab one of my UA-cam books to join). Cheers! James
Hi John. You need to move the scale shape into whichever key you need and then find the lick 'hiding' inside the scale pattern. Hi there and thanks for watching. Playing with a backing track takes practice and making up new licks on the spot does too! Just start with a slow track to make it easier and try to play some simple licks...they don't have to be amazing. We all have to start somewhere, and when you hear a great player they only got that way after a lot of practice and experimentation. Also...always try to keep the rhythm solid, super important. But above all, start slow and make it easy for yourself to start with. Hope this helps you out, good luck! James

it's not important.. you can use some others backingtrack in D position... type: rock backingtrack D (on youtube) and choose your prefer bpm backingtrack
Is there any particular reason why you're picking up-down-up (-pull off) in Lick one, instead of vice versa? It seems kind of counterintuitive, given the usual downstroke orientated playstyle in rock music.
Hi there. Yeah....good question. The reason is that the pick just sits in between the top e and B string and doesn't need to go 'outside' the strings.. .just easier and more economical really. Hope this makes sense...kind of hard to explain in words! You could pick it differently and make it work though...but i wouldn't play a lick like this using just down or up picks. Hope this answers your question! Cheers, James

And even more to those who want to learn. I feel better when I think that students do it right. So they can become the master of the stroke and leader of the pack. Enjoy your ears James, I always do when Listening to new lessons and new phrases not in the least bit does it matter how long or how fresh or how good. I love it all.

Finally !! Somebody had the idea to do this awesome video !!
THANK YOU, SIR !!!
Can you make videos of little important guitar licks like these ?
I hope you listen and if you do multi angle cameras because Pick hand is as important as left hand working together to do them !!
CONGRATS !!!
Thanks for watching and glad you liked the lesson. There are lots more licks videos on my channel and lots more at my website jamesshipwayguitar.com too so check it out! Anyway thanks for watching and point taken about multi angle cameras - maybe sometime in the future. Thanks again for watching and bye for now, James
Excelent very thank you to your works and to share with us freely.

00:22.What was that move buddy? LOL. That was cool.
Hi there and thanks for watching. Ok that lick...looks like just a little D blues scale lickk, nothing too smart! Try sliding top E 13 up to 15, slide back down to 13 then pull off to 10. Move on to the B string now and pull off 13 to 10. Then move onto G string and sliide 13 down to 12, pull it off to 10. Then play 12 and end with some wide vibrato. Hope that helps...if you can't quite get it then make up something simialr of your own using this description as a rough guide. More rock licks etc at my blog too if you haven't checked it out yet jamesshipwayguitar.com
Have fun with the licks and see you later! James

James ...THANKS YOU !!!
Can you do more of these famous guitar licks videos ??
Also can you concentrate on the picking hand too ??
It looks, that when you speed up, the picking changes to
less actual picking or like sweeping thru strings and that
has been my BIG REAL PROBLEM !
Thanks for this awesome lesson !!
btw, kick ass sound & nice harley benton !!
Cool thanks for watching! Yeah...some people have said I don't mention the picking so much in this lesson. Generally I'll try to.pick it the most economic/easiest way ...and yes it might change a bit when faster. Hope it wasn't confusing! Anyway try this one for some more famous licks: jamesshipwayguitar.com/essential-hot-rock-licks-2/

What bit or bits did you use to get the cuts? Thank You
Hi there! What do you mean for the 'cuts'? Not really sure what you mean. Cheers!
+James Shipway Guitar thanks il give it ago :)
Very good lesson, subb'ed! Thank you!
More, more !!!!!
Thanks maaaan
brilliant lesson, are there any more of these you can teach? Also, can you do the same backing tracks but have different versions where speed increases gradually.
What LP type guitar are you playing. Great lessons by the way. Thanks for doing this
+Voxboy876 Hi there. Cheers! James
merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo !!
hey hi how do you mute strings when switching strings quickly, i am good at it when playing normally but at high speed the string above the stings that i bend rings....
Why dont you use the litle finger while doing the scales my friend?
Thanks for watching, James
very impressive tutorial !! James, is there any way to get the backing track in this video? just for practice
Hi there and thanks for your comment. It's not one of my own I'm afraid although I do have some backing tracks available. Glad you enjoyed the lesson, got a follow up repeating lick lesson coming this week so watch out for that one too! If you like my stuff take a look at all the other lessons at my new website jamesshipwayguitar.com/freeguitarlessons Lots more there. Sorry couldn't help with the backing ;-( Cheers! James

+James Shipway Guitar Are you also on LiveJasmin?

+dadude7 Thanks for watching man...glad you enjoyed it! Lots more like this at jamesshipwayguitar.com
Thanks for your comment and good luck with your repeating licks! Cheers, James
nice lesson thnks
TheBognordave Thanks! Hope you got something useful out of it. Cheers. James
fantastic channel
I am truly amused now James, I ve been turned into a fret monsther....My 5 pattern turned into a 8, 9. and even a 10 note passage, repeated intervals on 3 strings. All because, you broke it to a single double, a double single and the variety of there to in different sring repeats. You ve created another eddie. or Joe, or something. Now to get it to the even and odd pattern beat. and the repeat string opportunity changing from one to three different strings. I hope you ve had a great day. I ve found note groove. thanks for taking me out of the 70s and skynyrd protocol.
+JED TAYLOR Thanks again jed...so glad you're enjoying the lessons. Great that you're breaking into new territory my friend! Cheers, James
James its I thanking you. There is much to be thankful for. That you do not do things in such a way as to confuse your audience is the best of the many opportunities you provide. Again, it is I thanking you.

Thanks for watching Leonardo! Hope there is something useful you can use in your solos in this video. If you like my lessons then you might be interested in my online community and website...lots of cool stuff there ; jamesshipwayguitar.com Hope to maybe see you there sometime! Cheers and bye for now, James
Dude. How do u get # 4 so fast? Do I need to just play slow and get it perfect and then increase beat a little ...etc?
Cheers! James
hi, can i use the same shape of the lick anywhere on the fretboard? help x
Hi John. You need to move the scale shape into whichever key you need and then find the lick 'hiding' inside the scale pattern. This is a great skill for building out your soloing skills and a vocabulary. This video will help you move the scale shapes around if you need a hand with this: ua-cam.com/video/Ft_uuN3n0M0/v-deo.html
Also you'll find lots more at my website: jamesshipwayguitar.com Maybe see you there sometime and good luck with the licks. Cheers, James
Hi, James. Great tutorial! Can you please tell me your amp settings? I peticularly want your vibrato tone as it sounds like Zakk. Love the vibrato squeal tone! Thanks!
Hey Michael. Thanks for watching! It will be pretty much like in this video below... maybe with a touch of extra gain. Other than that, straight into the amp with the Les Paul. Hope it helps, and subscribe and keep in touch my friend1 James ua-cam.com/video/Zr8lxtyRtTk/v-deo.html
Hi James ..your lessons Amazing... But I can't create a new licks with Backing tracks...pls help me
Hi there and thanks for watching. James
Thanks Man
Is Rock guitar lick bundle free?
Xaris Kouseris Hi there. Yes it's free. Click the link, put your email in and it's yours . Cheers! James
James....geez you're giving away all the secrets... shhh! ;)
PAIN FINGER Ha..love it. Will keep 'em to myself from now on! Cheers. J
Nice vid, beautiful guitar! What kind of guitar is that?
I have been trying to figure that out myself. The emblem on the headstock looks like the one on an Oscar Schmidt or Jay Turser, but I can't read the name at the top.
It's a Harley Benton Lp
link for tab doesn't work

it's not important.. you can use some others backingtrack in D position... type: rock backingtrack D (on youtube) and choose your prefer bpm backingtrack
nice
+akbar daoef Thanks for watching Akbar! Cheers, James
Papa gates?
+James Shipway Guitar Thank you for the fast answer, James. That makes sense. Cheers!
+Waggadudewagga Cool glad I explained it OK. Thanks for watching! J
“Kick in the pants” o.o
