    For anyone wanting to do this you should really have the wheel upright when painting so the can will always stay upright and not tilted so the can won’t start spitting, and it’s a lot easier to get even coats j/s

      Thanks for the tips. I thought setting the wheel upright would promote drips.

      @@JohnsonMotorsports i agree-and disagree.
      when upright- your chance of drips is higher- plus flat- you natrually get an even surface- ie. if u know what ur doing- upright is best- but if ur concerned about f'ing up= flat is easier. but flat- youre guaranteed to get an even coat.
      the upright angle of the can only really comes into play when the can is like less than 20% .

    The timing is just perfect, about to do the same this weekend to my stock 18's! Came out great, what side skirts are those btw? I have been looking for a set of extensions, but not sure which ones to get.

      My side skirts are the non m sport side skirts, however I have some m sport side skirts I bought off ebay that I will be painting and installing soon. My side skirt extensions came for Aliexpress.

    Nice job. Better than the video from the 2 guys at Duplicolor.

    Great video! Can you please briefly describe the process for masking the tires?

    Was there a good pearl visable pearl to it once you were done? Like a pearl gray?

    Looks nice!
    I'm going to use the stuff to smoke out some of the "chromed" plastic parts on my motorcycle. I've got some adhesion promoter, a few cans of the metalcast smoke, and some K2 clear.
    Did you have to do any sanding or compounding?

      I didn’t do either since this was just a set of winter wheels. You would want to try it first to make sure it doesn’t mess up the finish.

    Secret to this is always have the tires on. The tire guys are very careless at most places and you'll have scratch all over the rims.

    Looks perfect, so about 2 light coats & 1 medium coat, 3 coats total?
    How many cans did you end up using?

    • @JohnsonMotorsports
      @JohnsonMotorsports  Рік тому

      I used 1 can for each step, however it I was to do it again, I would probably get 2 cans for each step. It will also depend on if you plan to paint the barrels, I did not.

      I bought my paint at Orielly’s auto parts. The central store in my area has a paint counter that will mix the paint per your paint code.

    • @JohnsonMotorsports
      @JohnsonMotorsports  Рік тому

      Paint code should be on your vin/information sticker in your drivers door jam.

    Being almost a year, how has this paint held up? Did you just clean the wheel and spray the base coat, no scuffing necessary?

    • @JohnsonMotorsports
      @JohnsonMotorsports  7 місяців тому +1

      I scuffed the wheels before laying down paint. I honestly can’t tell you how well the paint held up. These were my winter wheels and were only on the car for a short time. I have since sold them.

    How many cans of paint did you use? Your wheels look good 👍

      I only used 1 can of each for the paint job, however if I were to do it again, I would pick up atleast 2 cans. Also, depends on how much you plan to cover. I only painted the faces.
