Best description of that season was that it was a DnD game where we rolled like 20 natural 20s in a row starting with the Lolmets comeback. Absolutely insane run.
One of the best moments as a Washington sports fan, alone with the Caps winning the Stanley Cup. Winning it big and especially against the Houston Astros was super sweet.
An aspect that doesn't get talked nearly enough is that it ended a 95-year World Series drought for DC going back to the Senators. A shame the Nationals went immediately back to "first in war, first in peace, last in the NL East"
Yup. Even though orioles are main team I was still pumped to root for the nats in the world series. Just like imma skins fan but was rooting for Baltimore in their superbowls.😂
As a Nats fan I will never forget the pure euphoria I had when Howie Kendrick hit that HR in the WS. That whole season was magical, I will never forget it.
For years I was a nervous wreck whenever the Nats played in the postseason. The game 5 loss in 2012 was so devastating, and the years of alternating regular-season and postseason futility made it worse. But something eased a bit when Soto hit the line drive single off Hader in the wild card, and turned to relief when Kendrick hit the grand slam in the NLDS game 5. Honestly, I felt almost serene during the World Series that year. I'd just seen them keep fighting and come back so many times that season, that I KNEW we were going to win the second Greinke walked Soto, even before he was pulled.
I remember immediately after that game someone said on Twitter "Well, we now know what would have happened if Bochy didn't use Bumgarner in 2014", and four years later I still think that is the perfect description of it.
For me and every Nationals fan, words can’t describe just how emotionally insane this season, especially the playoff run was for us. But given all the other playoff chokes, the feeling of finally getting over the hump felt better than it ever could have
The best part about this story is that nobody lost. Washington got rid of Dusty Baker, then he went to Houston and made a couple of world series-winning one. Bryce Harper went to Philadelphia and became a freaking legend. He helped drag that seemed to a world series they had no business being in. Max scherzer was on the team and he won the world series that year, validating his contract.
That Nationals team was special. Rendon, Soto, Turner, Strasberg, Scherzer, Corbin, Zimmerman, Eaton & Kendrick all helped the Nats win in their last chance. A great team.
As a Nats fan and DMV native thank you for this video. Well done! What a magical year this was, something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Truly a special group. Because of this team is why baby shark will forever have a special place in my heart.
Unforgettable October as a Nats fan... We needed SO MANY moments like these to stay alive. Juan Soto in the Wild Card, Stephen Strasburg and Howie Kendrick in the NLDS, and Howie Kendrick again in the WS, among so many other timely performances and clutch moments. Everything had to be perfect for the Nats to pull it off that season, and somehow all of the stars aligned. It's like we saved up all of our luck as a fanbase (and seemingly borrowed some luck from the future) to make that one month of baseball possible, and most of us will say it was totally worth it.
Strasburg was an animal this entire playoff run. One of the greatest pitching performances ever, no doubt, especially with the season on the line in game 6, throwing 114 pitches in 8.1 innings. Seemed like whenever the Nats needed a clutch pitching performance he delivered. And the entire lineup found their stride, Rendon calm as always delivering when it mattered most, and Soto becoming a superstar before everyone's eyes. Will never forget them going back-to-back on Kershaw down two in game 5 against the Dodgers. And so many fun memories from this team, Howie and Eaton driving cars in the dugout, Soto's shuffle, Davey getting ejected, and of course Baby Shark. Crazy the Nats won their first ring the season right after their best player left, never seen it before in recent memory, how sweet it must have been. Really sucks to see what happened to this team and the superstars after 2019, but so happy for them they were able to win one in their last hurrah. And shout out to Trent Grisham and Will Harris for their assists along the way :)
Good work, Clara- I needed another baseball Rewinder, and I appreciate that this one had a postscript. More of these do, because of how often the biggest moments are not the final moments
@@Ruderickle2424the other teams that cheated in the same way weren’t even investigated, so actually the Astros were unfairly punished. Still have consistently won in the subsequent years
Man… I was going to Nats games at RFK when I was a kid and I never thought I would see the day we’d not only be good, but win it all. Yanks and Nats are my two teams, but the Nats winning it all made me happier than almost anything the Yankees have done recently.
Bravo! Well done! This was a season for the ages. The surge of momentum after May was truly unbelievable. So many little things and the chemistry this team had in the clubhouse and with the fans - after all, this was the year of the baby shark... Winning that Wild Card game propelled us into the playoffs, besting some formidable matchups, ultimately marching right into the epic that was this historic 7-game WS. No home team ever won a game! An emotional ride that ended at a high point. As a Nats fan, thank you for the memory. #finishedthefight
Even as a Braves fan, I was ecstatic for the Nationals winning it all, especially for Strasburg and Zimmerman 😊 Speaking of the Braves, I'm hoping Jorge Soler's moonshot in the 2021 WS Game 6 will get a rewinder soon! How the Braves managed to win it all after spending most of the year under .500 and without Acuña will always amaze me
Hi, I don’t play baseball and its not that popular in my country, but I downloaded the highlights of the game 6 of the Astros-Braves series because I am amazed at the sport and watching underdogs win is a delight for me.
I like to think there is an alternate universe where Greinke stayed in the game, put away the Nats in the 7th, finished the next two innings, and then gave the most hilariously awkward and terse World Series MVP speech of all time.
There is no situation where Greinke stays in and the Astros win that game. He was missing the zone the entire inning and walked the go ahead run to the plate. He was done. The call was a decision between Gerrit Cole, the best starter in baseball who has only pitched out of the bullpen once in his career, and Will Harris, the Astros best reliever and an allstar in his own right. Hinch made the right call. Harris threw as perfect a cutter you could location wise and Kendrick just managed to hit it and keep it fair. It’s a tip your cap and move on moment. There is no what-if in this scenario that doesn’t have predictable poor results or a complete unknown that nobody can predict.
@@unoriginalwebbGerrit “I’ve only ever pitched out of the pen once in my career and wasn’t particularly good” Cole over the best reliever on the Astros staff? Yeah that’s a no.
With how consistently the Nats performed late in high-pressure games, it’s hard to say that keeping in Greinke or even putting in Cole guaranteed a victory here.

Since some of y'all have clearly failed to realize, no trash cans were required for the Astros to be great. 6 straight ALCS, 4 WS in 6 years and 2 titles (should've been 3 if not for Hinch). Both of those titles in spite of poor managers. And the fact that the innovator of the scandal (Alex Cora) was responsible for the 2018 ALCS loss to Boston. This Astros team of the past 7 years rivals the 96-01 Yankees as the greatest dynasty of the modern era.
@@GazzyW007 first off, not everyone did. Great video. Only thing I think they missed that was important was how Hinch decided not to bring in Cole. There was a lot of controversary behind not doing so.
This is fantastic to re-live. Just want to point out that overall, Nats fans not only were ok with the Stras shutdown in the long-run, time has proven Rizzo correct. Stras signed his first extension with the Nats precisely because Rizzo protected him, and when he was healthy, he was among the best. He is one of the greatest postseason pitchers of all time (look it up). I am grateful that the Nats treated him well, and I'm only sad that his career ended so soon - but at least he brought the city a title, and flags fly forever.
Also, I HATE it when people frame the shutdown as "protecting Strasburg's arm for future postseason runs", because Rizzo was adamant from the beginning that he was doing it to protect Strasburg the person, not Strasburg the baseball asset. Rizzo believed (rightly or wrongly) that Strasburg's injury risk was too great to continue pitching that season, and he was willing to protect his player at the risk of losing baseball games. You can agree or disagree with his rationale, but the fact of the matter is he made a difficult decision to do what he thought was right and stuck to it despite the insane screaching of the rest of the baseball world.
As a stros fan you did not need to upload this lol, this one stings, a lot moreso than 2021, then we were hobbled and injured. 2019 we were absolutely dominant, then blew it when it mattered
Not only was this a great world series (all wins by both teams were road wins) but it was a great postseason with plenty of drama. Washington beating Milwaukee in the WC game was epic and then upsetting the Dodgers in the NLCS.
Watching this from Dacha Beer Garden across the street from Nats Park, I can attest that the place absolutely exploded. Just bedlam. In a series where the away team won all 7 games, this was the closest we could get to a home field crowd.
As an Angels fan I hated when Kendrick got traded but seeing him come up clutch all postseason and then to win it in Game 7 definitely made us all proud.
My son was born in 2019. I vividly remember trying to rock him back to sleep when Kendrick hit his grand slam in Los Angeles. I've never shouted so silently in my life.
i know a lot of it gets over looked by the cheating , but man that game is heartbreaking and as Greinke fan and an Astros fan: Greinke is pitching the game of his life, making multiple gold glove assists to and strike outs. His iconic “it’s gonna be a big game” interview and then a brilliant performance while looked unbothered by being at the biggest stage. He gave up that homer and the gets Soto to two Strikes. Greinke throws a strike down the middle which blue calls a ball, making greinke throw another pitch out of the zone which led to the walk. While being red hot and not wanting to leave the game, and zack having too much anxiety to make a scene , he leaves the game and the astros give up the lead two pitches afterwards. The rest is history, the scandal broke and the astros have been hated ever since; but the story of Greinke being pulled out is always a heart breaking one here in Houston.
2018 and 2019 were magical years for DC sports. Both the Caps and Nats were practically identical franchises -- both consistently awful until some time around 2010 when they locked in extremely talented rosters that consistently led their respective league in the regular season, but inevitably chocked in the first round of the playoffs. Even in some of their best years through the 2010s it felt like no one had hope once the postseason came around. But something just clicked those years and it felt like the entire town was buzzing with excitement for both of their runs right from the start. It was truly special.
As a Washington sports fan I will say I don't hold it too much against Rizzo for shutting down Strasburg in 2012. The Redskins (Commanders) showed us the dangers of rushing back your team's star player with RG3. They rushed him back for that playoff run with a knee healthy enough to play but not healthy enough to stay intact. After he went down then he was never the same again. If we maybe rested him for the rest of the season and playoffs like Strasburg maybe they would have had a mini dynasty like the Nats did. Strasburg getting shut down I believe helped prolong his career just long enough for him to get through the title run. If we played him in 2012 he might've blown out his arm again in the playoffs and we might've nose-dived into a rebuild.
I think the only appropriate followup is the Jomboy Soto Shuffle vs Greinke video. m.ua-cam.com/video/2qUMtnKVnyo/v-deo.html&pp=ygUTam9tYm95IHNvdG8gc2h1ZmZsZQ%3D%3D
Welp, I remember 2012 a little differently. I remember Strasburg giving up 7 runs to the lowly Marlins late in the season. I remember thinking he was spent. I remember agreeing with management to sit him. And I also remember most fans agreeing with the decision in later years. And if you’ll remember, Stras himself said he always appreciated the organization putting him first. Oh, and then there’s the WS MVP thing. So, yeah, not sure I agree with that part of the story so much. But still a cool video! Thanks!!!
As an Astros fan, my one regret from losing in 2019 and 2021 is that we couldn’t get Greinke a ring. At least we got him to the dance, something none of his other teams can say.

As a stros fan you did not need to upload this lol, this one stings, a lot moreso than 2021, then we were hobbled and injured. 2019 we were absolutely dominant, then blew it when it mattered
the trashcan bit for the astros had me in stitches
This was a magical postseason for us. Howie Kendrick was so clutch during it, dude was a beast.
I am not fan of baseball, but I love the storytelling you guys do on this channel. On of the best on YT.
Clara, you are amazing. Shivers throughout the whole thing. Thank you.
The casual sarcasm in this was hilarious. Do more with this narrator.
Great story, great storytelling. Thanks for this.
Not only was this a great world series (all wins by both teams were road wins) but it was a great postseason with plenty of drama. Washington beating Milwaukee in the WC game was epic and then upsetting the Dodgers in the NLCS.
They beat the cardinals in the nlcs the dodgers was the nlds
I've always maintained that Soto getting tagged out on the go-ahead hit helped the Nats ride the wave of momentum and close out the game.
@@SuperLvdr "They have Soto hung up, they tag him out, but nobody in this joint cares."
This was also off the heels of the Caps winning the Stanley Cup. What a magical 2 years it was to be a Washington Sports fan!!
As a young (well, now 25 year old) Tigers fan who adopted the Nats as my second team, this World Series is still my favorite baseball memory.
Now you guys have to do a rewinder of Game 2 of the 2018 Stanley Cup finals, with Holtby's "The Save"
If it wasn't on video, I wouldn't believe it was possible.
Watching this from Dacha Beer Garden across the street from Nats Park, I can attest that the place absolutely exploded. Just bedlam. In a series where the away team won all 7 games, this was the closest we could get to a home field crowd.
Kansas vs Memphis. 2008 National Championship. Mario's Miracle deserves a Deep Rewind.
As a nats fan I’ll forever tear up thinking about how much struggle it meant to get to that insane playoff run.
As an Astros fan I can't believe I'm going watch this as it still haunts me to this very day
they continued their dominant run of ALCS runs and won in 2022 while the Nats turned into ash right after Game 7, I have no hauntings
I wanted the grand slam vs the Dodgers but you know what I’ll take it! Love to see some DC sports on this channel front and center for once
Dong! The sound of the Howie Kendrick Homer hitting the foul pole was so sweet.
As an Astros fan, this one might be too painful to watch, but here we go!
Bah yall got your two rings lol
@@bmac4Should've been 3, if Hinch put Cole in
As an Angels fan I hated when Kendrick got traded but seeing him come up clutch all postseason and then to win it in Game 7 definitely made us all proud.
God i love baseball Rewinders so much, moments like these remind me why I adore the sport so much
My son was born in 2019. I vividly remember trying to rock him back to sleep when Kendrick hit his grand slam in Los Angeles. I've never shouted so silently in my life.
i know a lot of it gets over looked by the cheating , but man that game is heartbreaking and as Greinke fan and an Astros fan:
Greinke is pitching the game of his life, making multiple gold glove assists to and strike outs.
That 2019 World Series hurt so bad as an Astros fan. That year was by far our best team over the last 6 years.
You guys literally cheated to win one in ‘17. You deserved to feel the pain this time you cheating bastards
I have been waiting for this video for 4 years
I am not even into sports, i just like Clara Morris basically telling me sports themed stories with good editing.
I remember being a block away from Nats Stadium when the fireworks went off and everybody was going crazy in the streets as they won 👏🏾🙌🏾
Pretty fortunate for MLB, and the Astros, that the Nats won this series.
I’ve been waiting 4 years for this video
I'll never forget that magical season. But there was more that this video did not cover that needed to be there.
I think the only appropriate followup is the Jomboy Soto Shuffle vs Greinke video.

I thought you would the Nats mangers speech from that year. It was very motivational
Love these! Y’all should do one of these on the 2009 game 163 when the twins beat the tigers! That game was wild
Thanks Secret Base, now my Tuesday is ruined. 😂
I still can’t believe Howie Kendrick hit that pitch, especially for a home run
I was at Nats park watching this game and it had been raining seemingly all game. I swear when Kendrick hit this home run the rain stopped.
"What's that noise?" 🤣🤣🤣
Rewinder: Soler’s moonshot solidifies Braves’ first title in 26 years.
Thanks!!!
"Good night and good game" is such a great sign off.
I’ve been waiting for this since it happened!
The *Bang*, “what was that?”, is a nice touch lol
As an Astros fan, my one regret from losing in 2019 and 2021 is that we couldn’t get Greinke a ring. At least we got him to the dance, something none of his other teams can say.
The trash cans werent around help.

I like how she continuously said the Astros traded away their future but they’re still on top all these years later.
Crazy. We need to at least one more championship
Clara is delightfully cheeky and snarky as always. Perfect for talking about the Astros.
Been an Astros fan since I was born and grew up in the teams lean years, but I can say confidently that no moment haunts me more than the clang of that ball off the foul pole
What about the part about you guys being cheaters? Astros, more like asterisks
@@ugottmedoesn’t haunt us. The players cheated, not the fans
I’d say the Albert Pujols home run in the 2005 NLCS, the whole 2005 World Series, and the 2015 losses in Game 4 and 5 to the Royals haunt me
I can still see that image of howie with his hand in the air, it is engraved in my mind!!!!

The clanging of trash cans made this video that much greater ha
A little too recent for a Rewind, but I appreciate a new episode and baseball analysis.
This and Soler’s bomb in 2021 give me Vietnam flashbacks.
The trash can sound got me 😂
Scherzer was an insane pillar of the Nats, the guy would just ignore the coach when he was told to come off the mound and would just keep throwing fastballs.

I love Strasburg and will forever cherish the fact that he basically gave up his arm for that World Series but imagine if that nats had resigned rendon instead of stras? Oh my goodness.
