Game 7 of the 2016 World Series, going into it, was arguably the most hyped and most significant game in the history of baseball. As a Giants fan with no horse in the race, I was excited to watch history. The game itself, very fortunately, did not disappoint, and only elevated its significance IMHO.
We Cubs fans at least got to feel the joy that you Giant fans felt 3 times within the last 9 years, what an amazing experience to see your team winning it all.
I remember thinking that the cubs had it in the bag during the fifth inning. Then the game got way more interesting. I am happy to say that the team I’d been rooting for my whole life managed to pull it off.
The greatness of the 2016 US sports season all around is crazy, and Imagine if Cleveland was the winner (also both involving 3-1 lead, though the baseball one in reverse) of both the most important Games/Game 7s, sheesh.
I still remember seeing a shot of Chapman wiping away tears in the dugout, thinking he blew the series for his team. Wasn't his fault and the dude was exhausted giving his all, I just really felt for the guy that moment.
I saw that man pitch in person that season and walked away thinking he was a superhero. I always loved closers, that’s what I was in high school, a cannon for an arm but no control. Seeing him with tears hurt since I knew a similar pain of losing it for your team.
He never should have pitched game 6. The Cubs had a huge lead late in the game, and Madden put him out there anyway and made what was an already tired pitcher, exhausted. Had he not done that, he probably has enough gas left in his arm to get through the final 4 outs of game 7 without giving up any runs.
Me, an Indians fan: Oh man I can't wait to see the next episode of Rewinder! SB Nation: You sure? As a Cubs fan, this game took 10 years off my life. I'll always remember Zobrist's hit, one of the clutchest hits in the history of the game. Greatest game in MLB history, even without the history involved.
@@publikaccessusa Did you actually watch that game? Also, I said "even without the history involved." I wasn't judging by the outside stuff, simply by the game itself
The weekend after this game, my family went to visit the graves of my Grandparents, who were cubs fans, to leave flowers, and to let them know the Cubs finally did it. Seeing just how many other graves had red and blue ribbons, cubs hats, and newspapers about the win really made it sink in just how much this win meant to chicago.
I have been waiting for this one since I started watching this series. Being down in the city of Chicago when the final out was recorded as a life-long Cubs fan is something I will never forget for the rest of my life. Chills. Thank you!
This has to be hands down the best sports moment of the 2010's. A team that had this much futility for this amount of time finally broke through. Not sure what else could top that.
The year of 2016 is priceless for every single Cubs fan. Loved the way they played, everyone counted them out after the 3-1 lead taken by the Indians but they fought against all odds to make it happen. What a legendary series. Thank you Cubs ❤️❤️
I can never forget this game, I’m a Cubs fan and this game meant the world to me, I’ve had family members live and die without ever seeing the Cubs win it all. When Rajai Davis ties the game in the 8th all of our hearts dropped, I was outside of Wrigley Field with hundreds of Cubs fans watching the game on a tv inside the vip room from outside, there was confusion and tears when he tied that game, but boy oh boy when the game was over it was an eruption of pure happiness. I often wake up and can’t believe that they won it all.
This is the game that started to get be BACK into baseball. I stopped watching baseball after the 1994 Strike as a kid. Between this World Series and watching the anime Ace of Diamond... and then the meme's of Ace of Diamond plays HAPPENING in this World Series... it made me wish I'd never gave up on baseball in 1994 and had kept playing.
you should do a rewinder of game 7 of the 2019 semi finals, the sixers and the raptors. it could be about the sixers process and how they got there and same with the raptors
I knew the Raptors were going all the way the very moment Kawhi's epic shot went through the mesh. It might be the greatest moment in all of Toronto sports outside of Joe Carter's homer.
As a die hard cubs fan, season ticket holder, person who grew up with the Cubs as their life. this was the greatest day of my whole life and my parents said it was a better feeling than their wedding. my family all cried watching the final out. i could rewatch this video daily and would love it every single time. i was there when steve did his little mishap and i was there to see the cubs win their last game at wrigley in 2016.
Rajai Davis was nothing short of spectacular in this game. Dude deserves a statue for that legendary 8th inning homer and his performance throughout the entire series. Even after a victory, that screaming homer still gives me nightmares.
Wow it’s kinda crazy to think that I’m the same year two teams from Cleveland either came back from a 3-1 deficit in the finals and one team lose a 3-1 lead in the World Series
YES I've never clicked on a video so fast in my life, I remember jumping up and down with my dad in the living room like a couple of kids, I've never seen him so happy
Great video! One small correction. Chapman's hideous workload was in game 5, where he got eight outs. Maddon DID put him in game 6 for 1.1 innings, but game 5 was where he was really stretched.
I think the real problem was putting him in for 1.1 innings in game 6. he's probably rested enough to pitch 1.1 clean innings in game 7 if he hasn't pitched 3.1 innings in the last 2 games
@@jsonrand it was completely unnecessary to use Chapman in Game 6. The Cubs were up 5 runs when they brought him in. My dad and I were at Game 7 and we and every Cubs fan around us were saying that Maddon was trying to outsmart himself with all the decisions he was making. Still, we won.
I cried like a baby when the Cubs won this game. It still gives me chills. Rizzo catching that ball and the game ending was absolutely surreal. I know it's just baseball and I shouldn't care so much but being a Cubs fan is in my blood. Its's not just my lifelong fandom but generations of it. Great video!
Still get the goosebumps from that last play. Watching it at home screaming with my old man was the greatest feeling in this world. Love my cubs, thru the downs and the ups.
One crazy thing that Mike Montgomery mentions in Tom Verducci’s book about him coming in is that in the bullpen and in his warmup he did not throw a single strike and Maddon did not know that. So the only strikes he threw that night were the two that he threw when he came in.
This was not only a World Series, But a Race against two Teams who were trying to end their Droughts. And we all know which Team would come out on top in the End. As a Cubs Fan, So is my Dad, We were both born in Chicago, Plus my Older Brother. In my Opinion this will always be the Best World Series and this Cubs Team is also be the Best i've ever seen. Thanks Joe!
I'm not even a huge MLB guy, but this series ALWAYS gives me goosebumps. SB Nation, you guys are fantastic editors, narrators, and most of all, story tellers.
I will never forget where I was , my whole family got in one room together after Davis hit the tying homer , we all thought we saw a gohst, but when the last out was made you can hear my neighborhood scream and my family went bezerk, and we live in ny... Imagine Chicago
chicago was absolutely insane. at the time, where i lived i was able to see wrigley, and i was able to see the whole neighborhood, and oh my goodness it was so loud. one of the best nights of my life. just amazing.
Well done SB nation, my stomach was in my throat the whole video just like it was during this game. As a Cubs fan, this was one of the greatest nights of my life, glad you guys could do it justice.
Steve Bartman isn’t in hiding anymore and everyone can bring their billy goats to Wrigley Field. Even though I’m an Astros fan I felt happy for the Chicago Cubs. They deserved it and their fans deserved it. Too bad Back to the Future was about a year too early on the prediction lol.
I strongly disagree. It's no longer our grandfathers Cubs. There's a whole new generation who hasn't witnessed bad Cubs baseball all the time. Me for example. I'm 25, started watching in 2000 at age 7. Since then, the Cubs have a top 10 record in MLB (4th in NL) some division titles and a World Series. I'll guess they'll have another one soon.
KROCKOHOLICSHTOWN That’s totally fine if you think that. Another example of a series like in the 2016 WS was the 2016 nba finals where all the games were blow outs. Except for game 7. Many nba fans think it’s one of the best finals ever because of the storyline and the game 7. Similar to what I think of the 2016 WS
When the Cubs lost their last game in the 2015 season, I distinctly remember watching it on tv as they opened a gate and let in a bunch of billygoats to mock them. I think the curse got lifted that night ;)
Life long Cubs fan and I’ll say 9:48 I truly felt the weight of 108 years at that moment, I’ve truly never experienced any kind of sports dread like that until then or even up till now.
Grew up a Braves fan but spent a year working in Chicago and developed a soft spot for the Cubs. That year was 2003-04 in which I spent my 3rd week there hanging around Wrigleyville during the home night games of the playoffs. I remember watching some fans march over to Wrigley field looking for Steve Bartman (I felt so bad for that guy). Needless to say, I was absolutely ecstatic for those fans and still get chill bumps when I watch footage of their win.
Not a Cubs fan, but this was the sweetest championship scene I have ever seen. As a sports fan, you gotta love the perseverance. I really thought they would string together consecutive championships after this, but I figured they just emptied their farm on that Chapman trade, and some other trades as far as I could recall. They would have Gleyber, Soler, and that slugger who's currently playing for the White Sox; forgot his name.
Game 7 was definitely one of the best games of baseball I've seen in my lifetime. It was all based on the drama of the Cubbies, a team who has not won a World Series in over a century and they defied all odds to come back and finally get the win even with the Indians breathing down their neck when they tied the game. It was a perfect ending and it's only a shame the Cubs just haven't managed to relive that glory since this win.
This series was so good for baseball. I am a die hard Yankee fan (currently hoping they have a little comeback of their own) and I was so invested in this series. I didn’t care too much if either team won but deep deep deep down inside I had so much hope for the cubs. So many years of just bad luck were thrown out the window on this final play. I remember I went to a sports bar with a girl I met on Tinder and I was so into this game that I paid her virtually no mind. We never hung out again but I’m ok with that because I was able to witness history.
Steven Delgado Same here Bro. I am also a Yankees fan with no dog in the fight. However this game 7 will always bring a smile to my face on a personal level for this reason. My Mother had died just a couple of weeks earlier in Mid October. Between losing the most important person in my life and also even around the backdrop of the circus aka the infamous 2016 Presidential campaign dividing America and much of the world as well, caused even a tear in eye when the game ended. Not so much the Cubs ended their so called “curse” but how watching this legendary game 7 on November 2, 2016 kind of put a closure of a very sad 😢 month for my family. So this is why this game will always be remembered on a personal level to me almost as much as the entire 2001 World Series for 9/11.
The only time I have ever legitimately, uncontrollably cried tears of joy was this exact moment, seeing my favorite sports team of all time finally win it all
this game lasted into 1 am my birthday morning cause of where I live and my whole family was crying. one of my favorite memories ever. hands down. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
almost never comment on videos, but this was great. as a cubs fan, i will never forget this series, still get chills when i see and hear that final play. i also remember almost tearing up in frustration when davis sent chapman deep. this was awesome to watch and it was very cool seeing an analyzed version of the past, very nostalgic and entertaining. keep up the great work.
You know what, we should be at the point of making a Collapse. I don’t care that we got Dansby today. The moment Willson went to that “boring city” that’s when an episode should’ve been start being made
This is still, by far, the best night of my life. Being able to watch all of the games thanks to breaking my foot the day before the first game of the NLDS. Going to bars and restaurants to watch the NLCS and World Series. Thanks to some political ad, I started tapping my foot to a rhythm and chanting whichever Cub was at the plate ( I started it when the Cubs weren't hitting well against the Dodgers and right after I started, Rizzo started hitting again, so I kept on doing it). I remember watching game 7 with some classmates and during the rain delay, I was the only one who stayed and I got to see the curse end. Everyone left at the bar hugged each other and I walked home, which took longer than normal because every few steps I would just stop and be amazed that it actually happened. Thanks, SB Nation, for making this video and reminding me of those good times.
I've been silently waiting for this one for over a year. I love this series, and I just knew one day I'd see it. I'm a Cubs fan, my birthday is November 3rd, and I was watching with my 70 year old parents. This moment means more than 98% of the rest, and I'm happy the rewind is finally here. Thank you.
One of the weirdest things I've ever seen in sports. I don't understand how you blow up a team so recent off of a world series win so casually, that's not been done often, not through trades anyways cuz when it does happen it happens cuz 1 or multiple of the big players on said team become free agents and don't choose to resign with the team. But in this case the cubs simply decided to trade everyone away at once.
It's not like they were going to make the playoffs the Brewers are too far ahead also LA and San Diego are very far ahead in the wildcard, also teams have dismantled faster like the late 90's Marlins. Just so you know I'm a Cubs fan who understands that teams go through up's and downs it's all part of the game unless your the Yankees or Dodgers.
As a family of cubbies fans this still gives me chills. Watching this again a year later I still get the knot watching the ending. Heart just dropped I remember going to school the day after the easiest day ever everyone was so happy teachers assigned nothing

I’d say arguably Mike Piazza’s homer after 9/11. Not really beneficial to them in the long run but helped to heal not only the city but the nation.

As a Cubs fan, this game took 10 years off my life. I'll always remember Zobrist's hit, one of the clutchest hits in the history of the game. Greatest game in MLB history, even without the history involved.
I was frozen like a stone when rajai davis tied it.
@@publikaccessusa Did you actually watch that game? Also, I said "even without the history involved." I wasn't judging by the outside stuff, simply by the game itself
I was numb and had chest pains following that homer. I was scared shitless.
It's not as historic but Game 5 of the 2017 WS was crazier
As a cubs fan myself i know what you mean i was nervous the whole day of game 7
The weekend after this game, my family went to visit the graves of my Grandparents, who were cubs fans, to leave flowers, and to let them know the Cubs finally did it. Seeing just how many other graves had red and blue ribbons, cubs hats, and newspapers about the win really made it sink in just how much this win meant to chicago.
I still remember that final out and Rizzo throwing his hands up in the air. Absolutely the highlight of 2016 for me
Doesn’t matter who you root for this was the best game in baseball history
I would alter that wording slightly. It was the most historically significant game in history, but it wasn’t really the best game
2017 game 5 was better but this meant more
HANDS down.
Liam McCaul nope
Apparently you've never watched the 2001 or 2011 World Series before....
I have been waiting for this one since I started watching this series. Being down in the city of Chicago when the final out was recorded as a life-long Cubs fan is something I will never forget for the rest of my life. Chills. Thank you!
This kills me as an Indians fan. Kipnis' foul ball always gives me chills.
PenguinRaids the whole thing makes my stomach upset still :(
As a cubs fan whem rajai davis hit that homer i got chills. I knew i was watching one of the best series ever at that moment
And it looks like kip is gone after this season 2016 was a magical year for all Cleveland sports fans like me
I’ve watched all of the Rewinds and Collapses and it was only a matter of time until one of these brought back nightmares
This was my own personal Pearl Harbor day. It was hell on earth
This is the best baseball game ever regardless of what team you’re a fan of. Very emotional and heavy game that was legitimately exciting.
Y'all still need to do one of these about Leicester city

I will never forget seeing Zobrist skipping towards the infield with pure joy after the W. Chills.
This has to be hands down the best sports moment of the 2010's. A team that had this much futility for this amount of time finally broke through. Not sure what else could top that.
Defeats of Boston sports teams, they say, that losing feels worse than winning feels good, I say, not always.
I think that someone could argue that the patriots coming back from a 28-3 deficit but I agree that this moment is the best!!
2016 Cavaliers coming back from a 3-1-game deficit, not even gonna argue.
The year of 2016 is priceless for every single Cubs fan. Loved the way they played, everyone counted them out after the 3-1 lead taken by the Indians but they fought against all odds to make it happen. What a legendary series. Thank you Cubs ❤️❤️
Greatest UA-cam video of all time. No debate. I come back and watch this every couple months to remember the old cubs.
I went to game 5 of this series and was watching every game live. I’ve never felt more emotions than that game 7. It was insane
This game actually got me into baseball.
This one and game 5 of the Astros-Dodgers WS
Fernando Martínez what got me was 2010 WS
This is the game that started to get be BACK into baseball. I stopped watching baseball after the 1994 Strike as a kid. Between this World Series and watching the anime Ace of Diamond... and then the meme's of Ace of Diamond plays HAPPENING in this World Series... it made me wish I'd never gave up on baseball in 1994 and had kept playing.
@@FernandoMartinez-om2nj well the Cubs didn't cheat in this one.

you should do a rewinder of game 7 of the 2019 semi finals, the sixers and the raptors. it could be about the sixers process and how they got there and same with the raptors
ChrilMill Maybe we should wait a year or two. It only happened 4 months ago fresh in our minds
I knew the Raptors were going all the way the very moment Kawhi's epic shot went through the mesh. It might be the greatest moment in all of Toronto sports outside of Joe Carter's homer.
A bit too early
trust the process
ChrilMill give it a year or two, it’s way too early
I STILL feel queasy when I see it. The feeling I got in the pit of my stomach when that HR was hit ..... That took years off my life.
This episode actually made me start tearing up
Wow it’s kinda crazy to think that I’m the same year two teams from Cleveland either came back from a 3-1 deficit in the finals and one team lose a 3-1 lead in the World Series
This might be the best one yet. You guys are crushing it with these. I'm not even the biggest sports fan but I love these rewinds.
Tearing up and getting chills watching this. Glad you guys finally got around to possibly my favorite sports moment of all time.
I will never forget where I was , my whole family got in one room together after Davis hit the tying homer , we all thought we saw a gohst, but when the last out was made you can hear my neighborhood scream and my family went bezerk, and we live in ny... Imagine Chicago
Extremely loud. The ENTIRE neighborhood went out of their houses and chanted "Go Cubs Go" until 2 am.
me and my brother were freaking out in our room, and we are reds fans
chicago was absolutely insane. at the time, where i lived i was able to see wrigley, and i was able to see the whole neighborhood, and oh my goodness it was so loud. one of the best nights of my life. just amazing.
As a Cubs fan in Chicago for the World Series, I will absolutely never forget this moment, still makes me tear up to watch. Unbelievable.
Thank you for finally leaving it on long enough after the "moment" to enjoy the instant excitement on the field
Well done SB nation, my stomach was in my throat the whole video just like it was during this game. As a Cubs fan, this was one of the greatest nights of my life, glad you guys could do it justice.
I’m a big cubs fan and honestly cried like a baby when we won the World Series
Same here. I've only cried for joy 3 times in life: when my daughter was born, when the Cubs won the pennant, & after they won the WS
I know the feeling. I did the same when we won in 2017. After yelling getting exciting and nearly punching a hole in the ceiling. I cried a lot.
I screamed for about 5 minutes then started crying lol
As a Cubs fan I tear up every time I see the final out and the celebration from the Cubs
Arguably the best game in baseball history. I watched it with my dad (lifelong Cubs fan), and I'll never forget it as long as I live
Came back to this several times and man I still get chills at the end of this video. Thank you

@@Packsuperbowl you're salty af lmao
R bruh that team is one of the greatest, you’re probably a salty Indians fan 🤣
I strongly disagree. It's no longer our grandfathers Cubs. There's a whole new generation who hasn't witnessed bad Cubs baseball all the time. Me for example. I'm 25, started watching in 2000 at age 7. Since then, the Cubs have a top 10 record in MLB (4th in NL) some division titles and a World Series. I'll guess they'll have another one soon.
Greatest World Series in MLB history
The 1991 and 2017 World Series's would beg to differ.
Did you see the 2001 WS and 2017 WS?
Aaron Johnson It’s just my opinion
Robert Rogers Of course I did. I’ve been watching baseball for 30 years. 2016 is in my opinion the best in history
I cried when it happened and I’m crying now watching all of this. Greatest day of my life
I wish I could relive that whole postseason run. That was legit the best time of my life.
So do I bro, SO DO I
I can quote the entire joe buck line at the end of the World Series even getting the timing right
SAME. It’s in my head forever. So is Pat Hughes’ call
Same. And the WGN call.
Still the single greatest sporting event I’ve ever seen. You couldn’t script it any better.
When the Cubs lost their last game in the 2015 season, I distinctly remember watching it on tv as they opened a gate and let in a bunch of billygoats to mock them.
I think the curse got lifted that night ;)
Plus the Mets would go on to get crushed in the world series that year, and then completely fall apart.
Remeber this day like yesterday longest night of my life and It was a beautiful moment
And that rain delay?!?!?! Just gut-wrenching!!
Watch it take another 100 years. The cubs winning a world Series will be like Haley's comment
This still never gets old as a long time Cubs fan.
When rain approached I was positive that there will be Game 8.
The only time I have ever legitimately, uncontrollably cried tears of joy was this exact moment, seeing my favorite sports team of all time finally win it all

I remember Being so nervous when John Lester came in
This is still, by far, the best night of my life.

Who's here after the Cubs literally just took apart their entire world series squad?
I’m gonna cry again dude, don’t remind me
One of the weirdest things I've ever seen in sports.
