You are more than welcome to put an asterisk next to the 2017 title, but if you do you better understand there are about three dozen more you can put in that same category for the same damn reason. What if Bobby Thompson‘s “shot heard round the world“ came as a result of the sign stealing the Giants were doing? This was not an Astros problem. If one idiotic pitcher didn’t take a shot at his former team because he didn’t like where his career wound up we wouldn’t be discussing any of this. The Astros would be right there with the Yankees and the Dodgers as teams rumored to have cheated beyond in 2017 and beyond. • In 2017 he (Manfred) fined the Red Sox for stealing signs off the replay monitor and transmitting them with a smart watch. He also **fined the Yankees** for improper use of the dugout phone to gain information off the replay monitor. !!!LOOK!!! -> • In 2018 he received so many complaints about teams stealing signs electronically that in the postseason he stationed MLB security officials near every replay monitor and dugout to try to ensure a fair game-the baseball version of calling in the National Guard to an emergency.
@@macpipkin What about the 8 other teams the Astros told MLB were cheating and Manfred swept it under the rug? MLB started this whole problem by instituting the challenge replay system and having replay monitors teams could look at before challenging a play. Get rid of that. Disagree. Jomboy as little to no integrity. I encourage Foolish Baseball to use his more objective and rational approach to assessing information, and apply it to Jomboy's ability to receive criticism. Jomboy comically highlights antics all around the league but openly admits he refuses to do so for his own team. People unable to laugh at themselves, that is to say, see humor for what it is(honesty*), are insecure and dishonest people. Then, he further embarrasses himself by lashing out at those who criticized his own bias. Perhaps most telling, was his response to Foolish Baseball's question about receiving criticism from Astros fans; He says, "I hope I have them all blocked by now". Censorship is something I will never endorse in life. He ostracizes small groups, those who defend the Astros, and those who laugh at the yankees' misfortunes. Juan Antonio patriots fans have no cloud over their heads they don’t care, they claim those ships proudly. Also the averages prove that they did better away from home when they didn’t have the banging.

And for the other guy responding about the MLB looking to the NFL for punishment, they obviously won't. I didn't write anything close to implying that.

Great video! A couple points/questions: 1) I can't hear the trashcan banging with the audio cuts. Like at all, for the life of me. Anyone else? 2) Marwin Gonzales seems like a perfect candidate for struggling hitter who got significantly better in 2017. Any sleuths out there got any deeper insight? 3) Strikeout rate isn't the only stat that will improve knowing signs. In fact, if you get comfortable taking certain pitches you're liable to go down looking if the pitcher paints corners. Batting average will go up because timing is everything for solid contact. Many of the Astros had suspiciously-coordinated career years.
They were better on the road than at home in 2017. What if they found a way to steal signs on the road as well? I was at game 6 for the WS in 2017 and I do remember looking at the Astros bullpen and seeing the catcher standing close to the fence with his hands on it.
Put an asterisk next to their Title.
Jim Crane said he has high standards and therefore he went above MLB punishment by firing Hinch and Luhnow. But he claims his 2017 Title is legit. So much for his high standards and went above MLB
What kind of deal did Crane make with Manfred and MLB? Crane should have been suspended, also, along with losing international bonus pool money.
Turn off the TVs in the clubhouses. No replays anywhere that are not available to the fans in the stands.
The Astros, especially the players, deserve all the grief they get, but the fans should make sure their team's own house is in order.
@@macpipkin Fiers is not an idiotic pitcher. His timing could have been better, but at least someone finally stepped up and said something. Hinch said in a press conference that if someone has an issue with the way they do something don't hide behind anonymous comments but their name on it. Fiers did that, and here we are. He could have chosen to remain anonymous, and he knew he could be blackballed by his teammates or other clubs. There is always time to do what is right, and the Astros and the team's management had three years to do what's right and didn't.
Signs or not you still gotta hit the ball and everything else all this is gonna do is make them want to prove they don't' have to cheat to win. This is a question of personal honor i doubt if all the players chose to win by cheating, that's bullshit.
Great video, completely disagree with the arguments against removing their title. It is absolutely necessary to discourage this kind of unsportsmanlike behavior. The very essence of sports is that we compete against each other on a level playing field. It’s what we teach kids from an early age. Letting them get away with it signals that we don’t prioritize fairness over winning, which is catastrophic.

Glad to hear it!
I cannot endorse(viewership is a form of consumption, the large the consumer base, the more advertisement funds are given) this either.
*Humor as Honesty: To paraphrase Aristotle, "comedy is the most true form of writing"
I typically wouldn't write anything as involved as this piece, if not for how intelligent Foolish Baseball appears to be. That previous statement was sad considering it's really simple stuff, so to be too involved these days isn't difficult to accomplish.

The thing is that this isn't a game for these people. It's a game to us, because we watch it to be entertained. But that's what these people do for a job. The Astros stole signs for the same reason that dudes took steroids in the 90's and 2000's. Good years extend careers. We hold these guys up and give them millions of dollars. The least they can do is not cheat.
I've been waiting for specifically this video since the scandal broke out. So great to see!
Wasn't sure if I should tackle it, but it seemed like the right time.
me too.. I have been looking for any updates regarding this SCANDAL.... just have to wait and see IF MLB is actually going to do something or just sweep it under the rug ?? be hard to do that though.. one thing is for sure now.. EVERY game will be scrutinized across the board.. and I'm glad for that.. America's favorite past time huh ??? CORRUPTION never stops I guess ???
I didn’t know I needed this collab in my life until now
What's sad is that every player knew. Says a lot about people beyond baseball and athletes.
The 2 bit video game sounds effects got me! Keep using them in future videos!
Dispersal draft of every player on the 40 man roster. All new talent must come from the minor league system and waivers, no free agent signings for seven years.
That’s awesome lol honestly
TehitsGonzo Let’s say they win 55 games the first year and improve by five games a year for the next six years. They will then be an 85 win team with all homegrown talent and will be able to add free agents to their now prime core and they have half a chance of becoming a wild card contender.
The punishments discussed to this point are risible.
Manfred like all commissioners works for the owners, not “the game,” smh.
The three batter rule is positively idiotic.
A plan like this would not be viable
Lxn _ni Perhaps you can break away from your adolescent Asian cultural obsessions long enough to articulate your reasoning and moreover your superior plan.
Shake any tree and a hundred critics will fall out along with one person who has done something.
@@IAm-qf2xb you are stupid think it's viable one no player in the league would be able to trust the mlb again. It would more than likely breach player contracts. Other teams already have full rosters and back ups it would cause innocent people to loose there jobs. What teams would get what players? Do good teams get the good ones and bad teams get the bad ones?
"He does have ties to the club..."
Proceeds to show photograph of Kyle McLaughlin wearing club tie.
Dude, don't go changin'.
Imagine if this was like back in the 70s when fans ran on the field when altuve hit the Homerun to win the 2019 ALCS a fan just like was celebrating and completely ripped his jersey off and the whole buzzer appeared 😂😂
Native Houstonian here. I think they deserve everything they have coming to them. It's only fair. The league has made strides over time to keep integrity intact, and the allegations are performance enhancing. Fair is fair, and it's better to have heavy consequences dealt rather than get a slap on the wrist and have a cloud of doubt hanging over you forever like the Patriots. At least that way we can say we paid for it.
Juan Antonio patriots fans have no cloud over their heads they don’t care, they claim those ships proudly. Also the averages prove that they did better away from home when they didn’t have the banging.
Also from Houston... the most upsetting thing to me is the character of the players that are now called into question. George Springer, Jose Altuve, and Alex Bregman are all class acts, or so I thought. Hope they had nothing to do with it, but honestly they probably did. Interesting to see how far the cheating goes, whether it delves into the pitching side of things or not...
How the nfl deals with the patriots has nothing to do with how mlb should punish the astros. As far as the home vs road record, so what.
fightsports66 I’m not here to argue what right or wrong I’m just stating the truth i haven’t meant a single patriots fan that cares that they go got caught cheating and the banging was not performance enhancing, if the league wants to punish them that’s their decision. I was just rebutting the initial comment
@@marrigtherebel3133 My point wasn't about Patriots fans caring, because they clearly don't. But everyone else does, you can't talk about the Patriots without someone bringing up the cheating. It'll be the same thing for the Astros, unless they can win one legitimately, and even then, the stigma will linger until Hinch and the core of that 2017 team are all gone. And for the other guy responding about the MLB looking to the NFL for punishment, they obviously won't. I didn't write anything close to implying that.
The player that was struggling could very likely be Brian McCann. He joined the Astros in 2017 after the Yankess; hit .300 at home in the world series vs .037 away.
@@AdamFerrari64 Doesn't matter, McCann retired at the end of 2019 season after the Braves lost to the Cards in the playoffs. Not much MLB can do to him, he isn't HOF good, so they can't do a thing to him unless he plans to coach, but he never said he had any plans to do anything of the sort.
@@MountainFisher If it really is McCann, then a permaban from baseball seems to be the best punishment, like what Foolish said
It said that the (unknown player) benefited from sign stealing on his last team. Obviously of all teams the Yankees would have some kind of sign stealing system (probably not as cheaty as this one but still).
@@averageo2343 Precisely, the history of cheating in MLB is long.
@average0 the Yankees cheat just as much as other teams but they don’t use sign stealing systems like Houston maybe a little extra pine tar here and there but that’s not anything different from anyone else why are the Yankees always targeted the fucking Red Sox had apple watches and they barely got flamed for it
Great video!
A couple points/questions:
1) I can't hear the trashcan banging with the audio cuts.
I heard a few of the bangs.
You can hear it better with earphones :)
that home run by george springer was so funny, he clobbered that curveball like it was batting practice or a pitching machine 😂😂
Then Toronto gave him $150 million dollars to play for them :)
‘catches wife in bed with another guy...’
Foolish baseball: “yeah, but what does that prove?”
I mean the astros love to bang things 😂
"I am intelligent because I'm playing both sides and acting like cheating gives no significant advantages"
They were better on the road than at home in 2017. What if they found a way to steal signs on the road as well? They have more than one way of relaying signs, what if the trash banging was the easiest method, which is why they did it at home, but they had a different method that worked fine on the road (e.g. the bullpen catcher with the hands)?
The irony in this is, the fact that they are now going to be a trashcan of a baseball team. Beat on that! 😏
PRYVTgomerPYLE, they lost no players, still have a great farm team, and coaches don’t have the same impact on the game like in football
I highly doubt that... They're still all really good players and they have some of the best pitchers.
@@Andrea-ul7cm You do realize that the constant trolling is going to make their 'away games' a literal nightmare, correct? Besides, it was a joke... Learn to laugh a little.
PRYVTgomerPYLE Like their away game wasn’t hard enough already. Y’all are stupid sometimes... As for the joke, it wasn’t funny
@@Andrea-ul7cm and now it will be harder, correct? Then kindly stfu... I believe there are a few people that liked the comment, so I cannot be the only one who found it funny...
Dropping this after the rangers won the 2023 world series. I'm a Rangers fan deep in Astros territory and the fastest way to turn friendly banter into legit anger from a stros fan is to even mention a trashcan.
Fuck em. They know what they did. They're just too cowardly to admit it.
Y'know what nobody is talking about, but they should? The fact that this makes the Nationals World Series win even more impressive. Not only did the Nationals have to face one of the best teams in baseball, they had to try and counter their cheating as well.
@Jack. Nationals had four sets of signs because they were warned of the Astros stealing signs
@Jack. You’re mad haha yes they did until the World Series and during the World Series they tried to but knew they were already exposed
Wasn't that the World Series where the road team won every game?
braves too

@Braydon Wilson They may have used something else on the road. We'll never know. Regardless they were a really good team, the just got greedy.
@@xeriovds546 I think the sign stealing may have helped but you're right, they were definitely a premier team. It's important to account for the talent in the rest of the AL West too when making a conclusion. Either way, its going to be an interesting season whenever baseball starts again

Seems so obvious in retrospect, that trash can banging, it seems hard to believe that no one on the other teams ever figured this shit out...
“They sure seem to be banging that trash can every time we throw a breaking ball...”
What about the other coaches on the Astros staff? You telling me they didn't know about the sign stealing but yet did nothing to stop it? MLB needs to clean house with the Astros, and the Red Sox, if it's proven they stole signs.
Right? Like NO ONE noticed the monitor and trashcan that they walked by everytime they went to the dug out?

@Braydon Wilson I'm an Orioles fan, so you picked two of my favorite targets. I'd choose Maroon 5's Payphone for the Red Sox after Big Sloppy's 2013 tantrum. As for the Yankees, you could insert any generic auto-tuned rap song which brags about boatloads of money.

well this aged well

It's a powerful look

Stealing signs is a game within the game. I mean that by having a runner on second look and try to figure out the sign system. Not a camera from center field zoomed in and using trash cans every single pitch. I’ve actually heard of teams putting down multiple signs with no one on base to disguise the signs when they played the Astros
10:53 That's on an 0-2 count too. In hindsight the fuckers were making it a bit too obvious.
As a Royals fan, in 2015 when the Boys in Blue ripped their hearts out with that magnificent comeback in game 4, I couldn't help but think that that had to be so heartbreaking for the Astros to be that close to winning. But when all this shit went down, I can't tell you how much happier it made me that my guys fucked with their world.
I'll go back to watching my crappy baseball team now, thank you.
