To date, 884 hours on my Craftsman DYT (Husqvarna). Agreed, the design is a little wonky but its an inexpensive residential mower. Wear and tear is inevitable but parts are cheap and its easy to service. Mower has totally surpassed my expectations; going on 16 yrs old and still cutting the lawn all summer in 2020. I did buy a new Husqvarna TS354X last fall because my luck has gotta run out soon with the old Craftsman. But I need to level my deck on the new mower. This helped, thanks!
Never had a riding mower, but I would always help my dad adjust the blades on the old push mower. We had that thing for 15+ years, always nursing it along.
I fell for the hype of the Husqavarna brand 3 years ago and although initially happy at first I fell out of love with it quickly. It's lift and cut system was poorly engineered, the upper deck fills with grass and clogs up the vent ports. The deck height settings 1-3 are useless unless you want the mower to be a tiller. A gas guzzler, and with only 150 hours on it the deck height is out of whack which I assume is from worn pivot points like in your video. My old cheap MTD lasted way longer and that thing was abused unlike the Husky which was treated well. Will never buy another one. Thanks for the video, very will informed.
This one has a few hundred hours on it but it has been a battle to get it there. Ive had brackets break and the seat wore out very early on. The engine itself (B&S) has been great but the mower is like something from china.
Thers another leveler in the front also. If its not leveled up it will still cut uneven. The front one levels from front to back. Good advice on the tire pressure. Most people miss that.

Good how-to video! I was going to sharpen the blades and check my blade height and it snowed. lol I can’t get inspired to work on my mower when the temps are in the 30’s. Phil
I have a Husqvarna zero turn, and it's never cut good since day one when I bought it new. It's always left thin strips of uncut grass, like there's spaces between the 3 blades, and it's also never had good airlift to raise the grass that the tires has flattened. The way I solved the problem was by parking it, and just have it for backup, and I bought a different brand of mower with a fabricated deck, instead of pressed deck.
Hello Sir thank you for this video. My Murray 24 inch rear engine rider , is having the same problem, mind you I got it new from Wal- Mart in 2013 so my mower is 9 years old I was cutting on level 3, but now I cut on 4or 5 ,have look and look at how to adjust I only see one adjustment and that is on the left side can’t find any in the back. And the nut on the arm is so tight I can get to move so I will try to put some oil and try again.
Thank you. 3/4" socket works on that nut as well. I initially dropped the deck to the lowest setting and then tightened up the linkage to snug type- - not terrible but not good either. going to buy the gauge you suggested. I changed my blades out to high lift blades for a YTH 24V48 and although the blades I bought were the recommended blades, they are much wider and have higher tips on the end, which i assume will alleviate clogged bagger chutes with heavy material removal.
Nice, Help here my is not that old, but my level is loose where the pin is , i move up and down the handle and it wont stay , i try to tight the nut in the back of the pin and not working, the level is tight . thank you . if there is a form that i can send u a picture or small clip of my lawnmower, Thank you
Remember, that's only to level the deck because tires don't sink into concrete like they do on the lawn. Lawns are softer so the cutting height can't be correct even if off by 1/2". And 4:30 that is a self locking nut. You can see the tell tale manufacturing signs on the dimples tapped into the side of the nut and they're not made for much use other than the occasional adjustment because they can bugger up the threads if wrenched up and down much.. Just use a good lubricant like WD-40 or something when need be. Remember to level front to back now.
If you live on a slope, you may want the deck higher on one side, lol. My dog would be in the pool laying down with the chicks and ducklings. She wants to mother he n.v everything. Blessings to you and your family
Thank you for taking the time to show us how to level the mower deck. You are friggin hilarious, your going to have to train Breezy to fetch the toilet paper for you, lol!
No, you set tham about an inch above the height you would normally mow at. they are for when you turn or hit a rut. They keep the deck from digging in and scalping the grass.
Hi, I like your video it helps a lot. My question is when I adjusted the left hand side, the right hand side is not adjusting causing my deck not level. what's the cause of it?
If you adjust the left side up, the right side will lower. That’s how it works. If you lower the left side, the right side will rise. If you are 1/2 inch high on one side, you would only need to raise or lower the one side by 1/4 inch. As one side raises, the other side lowers by the same amount.
Nice tool you got there but is it a tool you really need to have or can i measure from the bottom of my deck and down to the floor with a tape measure?
It’s not the deck you’re checking, it’s the blade height. The edge of the deck is not. Level all the way around. If you can get a tape measure, under the deck, at the blade tip, and see the measurements,,,, then go for it. Measuring the edge if the deck dies nothing to insure proper blade height and level.
@@bctruck But why do some people measure the height of their deck by putting 3 or 4 blocks of 2x4 under the bottom of the deck so it barely slide under and measure the height of their deck that way and still get it level then? It will be the exact same thing as measuring the bottom of the deck and down to floor with a tape measure. It's no need to make this adjustment difficult when you can do it easier and still get the same result and i dont have this tool so i has to measure it by using another method. The edge of my deck is level all around too.

Wire brush the threads below the nut, oil it and remove the nut and then run a fluted tap thru the nut and a die up and down the threaded rod and your back to factory threads and good for another ten years.
Thanks for the video. I have to ask a question though. I have never seen a video where anyone suggests blowing off the deck and everything else on the mower or tractor off, and I notice that all the mower decks are always covered with grass clippings from previous use. Is there a good reason why not to blow it all off after each use?
Blow it off if that’s what you want to do. My last mower lasted 15 years with no ill affects from grass on the deck. If grass on the deck bothers you,,,,,, blow it off. I guess that’s why you never see anyone else talk about it. It a case of , blow it off if it bothers you because it doesn’t hurt the mower if you don’t.
@@bctruck thanks for the reply. I guess I'm just a neat freak, plus I think it could possibly be a fire hazard putting the mower and the tractor in the barn, with the waste piled up on them. Thanks again.

That nut has to have tight threads so it doesn't vibrate loose. Some of them have a locking nut , like the front adjuster on that unit.
