The only thing I don't like is that the grass covers the throttle, but it is still manageable. I like the side console from the standpoint of being covered by the blind, having room to walk, and for gear.
@@Duck-It. This is the only reason I was considering getting the beavertail blind over a DIY "scissor" style. All the material lays on one side while it is folded down and we could put that on the port side of the boat.
Yeah it would be nice if it stuck out another foot where the console is, but then it wouldn't fit within the guide poles or even down the highway lol. Your plan makes sense I've just never seen that style in real life. If you watch the end of my Raffia Grass video you can see that the throttle is covered by all the grass.
Did you look into an options for using the T-rail as the mounting surface for the blind, instead of drilling in the rail? I have a similar rail on my boat, and it seems like a shame to have all the extra holes drilled everywhere. But seems like virtually everyone is making some version of a scissor blind mounted to the deck/rail. Are you planning to take the mounts off after the season and plug the holes, or leave them on permanently and just remove the attachments?
We thought about that.. I didn't want it to have the chance to loosen over time. I am going to leave the mounts there but slide the base support part off at the end of the season. I like the concept of the rail system for other attachments though.
Have you hunte out of this blind yet? Is there anything you would do differently? I am going to use this design for a blind for my boat and have already ordered the steel tek mounts and adapters.
It works great. Very sturdy. No signs of needing fixed. Rides down the road great. The ONLY thing is the throttle is hard to get to when the blind is layed down but I just keep it pushed to the side when driving.
Sounds good. I have a side console Pro Drive with a Raymarine mounted on top of the console, and the commercial blinds available aren't tall enough to clear the RM unit. You can make it work, but a PIA and I shattered a screen last duck season. I like the fact you can customize the height of each side. @@Duck-It.
Yep. The blind overhangs to the water line, so we just tuck it into the boat if we ever need to go from spot to spot. You can see just fine when driving too.
How are you liking it specifically in regards to your boat being a side console? I am a fan of your design and I like the steeltek parts!
