*Just to answer a few questions I've been getting that I didn't mention in the video:
    1. I haven't been using a separate exfoliant lately. Having dry skin, exfoliants can cause even more dryness. I use them once in a while but not on an everyday basis. The products I'm using with rice water in them already mildly exfoliate, plus the snail mucin has glycolic acid which exfoliates as well. So I've found that I don't really need a separate product when these daily products are a mild way to keep my skin free of the dead cells.
    2. I haven't been using a separate neck cream but I just use all of the steps on my neck as well as my face. I may have cut that part out of the video for time, but that's definitely part of my routine.
    3. I haven't been using a vitamin C lately either because again the rice water toner and snail mucin as well as the Klairs Midnight Blue serum have brightening ingredients so I don't feel like I need a separate vitamin C.
    4. I've added the makeup I'm wearing in the video to the description box.*

So you deleted my comment about zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract (Szechuan pepper) in the Haru Haru products? OK, it's your channel. But I'm appalled that you're using and recommending these products.

@@20thcenturyrelicI didn't delete your comment, I even replied to it saying that it didn't bother my skin at all, even with that ingredient in there. I've noticed that UA-cam has been finicky with comments lately and sometimes I can see them and other times they appear hidden...I'm not sure what's going on. Or it's possible another user reported it and it got removed that way. But anyway, I did some research on this ingredient and here's what I found:
      DERMAL IRRITATION AND SENSITIZATION STUDIES
      Human
      "Zanthoxylum piperitum extract
The skin sensitization potential of 2% Zanthoxylum piperitum extract (super critical carbon dioxide extract; plant part
not specified) in ethanol: diethyl phthalate (1:3 w/w) was evaluated in a human repeated-insult patch test (HRIPT) involving
      110 subjects.
      2
Two different samples of the test substance were tested on each subject. During induction, the test substance
(on a 3.62 cm2 occlusive patch) was applied to the same location on the back of each subject 3 times per week for a total of 9
applications. Test sites were examined for dermal irritation at each visit prior to re-application of the test substance.
Approximately 10 to 21 d after the final visit of the induction phase, the challenge phase was initiated. The test substance
was applied for ~ 24 h to a new site on the back. Test sites were examined for signs of dermal irritation or sensitization. The
test substance did not elicit skin irritation or sensitization during the challenge phase and was classified as a non-sensitizer."
Apparently this ingredient is known for antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and is often used in Korean medicine. This is the article where I found this information. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=www.cir-safety.org/sites/default/files/TR_ZanthoxylumPiperitum_062023.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjnoMvZppSEAxVOElkFHZJnD3cQFnoECBAQBg&usg=AOvVaw3EYG4X-kF0earhhdrvoTeo

I love when you post skincare!
My best skincare tip for dry skin (learned from Dr Dray 5+ years ago) is to leave your face wet after cleansing and apply your skincare to it. Like, don’t towel dry your face at all. I have actual water droplets on my face when I apply the layers of toner, serum and moisturizer like you do. This just further seals in the water from evaporating and drying you out.

Then once I started taking showers like twice a day because of the gym and work, I no longer felt the need to use anymore face products. All my blackheads went away and I think because of the constant showers that helped me the most. Even more than the Korean skincare. Now I just use lotion and sunscreen. If you haven’t yet tried the Beauty of Joseon’s Revive Eye Serum with Ginseng + Retinal (.02%), it is worth a try. Retinal with the “a” is one step to tretnoin rather than retinol’s two steps, so it more effective at lower amounts. I have read that for many people, retinal is easier to tolerate than retinol, which was true for me. I used the BOJ eye serum all over my face to introduce retinal at a low level, now I use it in just my eye area, except upper eyelid where skin is so thin. I have moved slowly forward with an increased percentage of retinal on my face and neck without any reaction in the past year.
**FYI, I have mature dry-normal skin living in the high desert with low humidity, I also have rosacea. I have moved to almost 100% Korean skincare including Korean and Japanese sunscreens, although I did not use skincare for decades. The improvements in my skin in the past few years are very visible and I attribute that to Korean skincare, especially the Korean sunscreen that helped me realize I could enjoy wearing sunscreen and made me want to try Korean skincare.

I added a few things to cart. 😊 I’m pretty happy with my skin care actives, but I do like to try different toners, moisturizers, and eye creams. The La Roche Posay oil cleanser burns the crap out of my eyes. I tried to tough it out (I’ve never had sensitive skin or eyes) but I finally gave it to my husband to use as body wash since it says face and body. The Cerave cleansing oil replaced it for me. You definitely don’t look 46 although I knew how old you are. I don’t look my age either and while I credit most of it to genetics since I am a former sun worshipper, the good skin care definitely gets some praise.

No reason not to use an eye area product all over your face if you can afford to. Most eye creams are face moisturizers packaged in a smaller container and sold at a much higher price. (if you don't believe this, try comparing ingredients lists.) Actually, there's no reason not to use a face moisturizer around your eyes, unless the package says not to. I've done this for years and put Aquaphor on top of it for more moisture.

Jen, an excellent eye cream with retinal is from Beauty of Joseon, it is called revive eye serum, it is encapsulated retinal. My favorite toner is the I'from rice toner, one of my favorite serums is from the Neogen brand and it is called azulene soothing peptide ampoule and my favorite vitamin C is the one from Cosrx, I buy the 13% one, but I have also used the 23% and it doesn't give me any reaction. I have mature skin that is 46 years old and dry, but I have tried a lot of things over the years and I use these now, along with other things, but those are very good 🥰 In fact, a Korean youtuber went to a test after 30 days using beauty of joseon's retinal cream and saw a significant improvement in the reduction of wrinkles, tone, barrier, texture, collagen and water retention in the skin. They saw her with technology on a specialized computer in clinic. 🥰

Love the COSRX Snail Mucin! It’s amazing! I actually had watched yr last skincare routine & bought everything u recommend lol 😂. Including the City Beauty Mutli-Sculpting Moisturizer, the Tatcha Moisturizer u mentioned for yr night routine! (I got it on sale!) I do luv the texture. N the Milk toner u suggested. Also the Korres Black Oil Cleanser. That I didn’t like it was too greasy a formula for me. I didn’t like the texture. I might have used too much! Everything else I love! But, now I love these new items & brands u just shared w/a fraction of prices I spent lol 😂 which was just in December. So after I finish everything, I will start on these brands. I do love Korean brands. Especially their sunscreen. That moisturizer looks amazing. I do love the City Beauty but it’s expensive. I have to incorporate the COSRX Serum. U hadn’t mentioned that before. But, u did mention the Vit C u used to use. So off to the stores again soon. Or online where I can buy this stuff. The COSRX Snail Mucin Serum is MUST! I found it cheaper on Amazon like $13.86 instead of $22 a bottle on Ulta. Just an FYI for u & yr Subscribers. It’s exact same product & size. Amazon has all COSRX Brand really great prices too. TFS! Yr face absolutely doesn’t look different from last 10 yrs. Yr skin is so healthy! I’m a skincare lover also! Especially morning routine. I work @ home. So most days I don’t wear much makeup to double cleanse @ night! But I do admit, my night time routine is not @ long. Lmk what u use on brow’s growth & lash growth I tried the Ordinary Brand but had an allergic reaction. Maybe u may have a different suggestion? Also, what is yr favorite yr lip balm to hydrate overnight? I also use QMS Lip Corrector for those tiny fine lines that develop into yr mid 50’s. Suggestion to avoid them which is inevitable but do not drink from straws or water bottles w/straws. The least u pucker up yr lips the better. Yr muscles w/age in yr upper lips thin out n u lose elasticity w/aging. After yr mid 50’s. I never got lip injections or fillers or Botox. Mine r very very minimal. So I try to take care of that area. I would start now @ age 46. Just a suggestion. I hope I helped. Always a pleasure to watch u! TFS! ❤❤

I actually do this too! My hands wouldn't be so dry if I didn't wash them so often. I'm a germaphobe and in the winter with all of the germs going around I'm even more fanatical about it. So when I apply my excess skincare to my hands it doesn't last long before I'm washing it away again. Although in the summer I do notice that it makes more of a difference when I'm not washing quite as often. 🥰

Hi, Jen! I've been using Korean skin care and didn't realize it! I have combination skin, so my skin care changes according to the seasons. My skin tends to be rather dry in winter, so I like using Purlisse Blue Lotus 4 in 1 cleanser, as well as the Blue Lotus moisturizer. I did use toner when I was younger, but had always been told it was to remove any remnants of dirt, so I swiped it on my face with a cotton ball. My skin ended up feeling dry and tight, so I quit using it. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense, so I think I will try it. In winter, I like to use a paper mask with all sorts of hydrating ingredients, then, instead of a regular moisturizer, I use a face oil instead. It seems to keep my face hydrated all night. During summer, I tend to pare back my routine, as my face tends to get oily and sweaty. I like Ole Henrikson's Vit.C cleanser and serum. I use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. I want to try the sunscreen you use. Do you use a body sunscreen? What do you like to use? Thanks tons for this vid!

    • @JenPhelps
      @JenPhelps  11 місяців тому +3

It's possible that the toner you used to use had alcohol or witch hazel in it (many of them used to have that) and they can sting and dry out your skin. But a hydrating toner will plump up your skin and give it more moisture. :) For body sunscreen I used to use one from Australian Gold that I loved...it was a mineral formula and it's been discontinued so I'm on the hunt for a new one that I really love.
