    💖 ABOUT ME:
Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time UA-camr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. *Just to answer a few questions I've been getting that I didn't mention in the video:
    1. I haven't been using a separate exfoliant lately. Having dry skin, exfoliants can cause even more dryness. I use them once in a while but not on an everyday basis. The products I'm using with rice water in them already mildly exfoliate, plus the snail mucin has glycolic acid which exfoliates as well. So I've found that I don't really need a separate product when these daily products are a mild way to keep my skin free of the dead cells.
    2. I haven't been using a separate neck cream but I just use all of the steps on my neck as well as my face. I may have cut that part out of the video for time, but that's definitely part of my routine.
    3. I haven't been using a vitamin C lately either because again the rice water toner and snail mucin as well as the Klairs Midnight Blue serum have brightening ingredients so I don't feel like I need a separate vitamin C.
    4. I've added the makeup I'm wearing in the video to the description box.*

Hi Jen, thank so much for sharing your night and day skincare routine, I appreciate your honesty and the products that you use, i think you look amazing, just wondering have you tried a vitamin E cream for your hands, vitamin E helps with healing ( i hope you don’t mind this recommendation,if I over stepped I apologise, the cream has helped me when I needed it). So you deleted my comment about zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract (Szechuan pepper) in the Haru Haru products? OK, it's your channel. But I'm appalled that you're using and recommending these products.

    • @JenPhelps
      @JenPhelps  4 місяці тому +13

@@20thcenturyrelicI didn't delete your comment, I even replied to it saying that it didn't bother my skin at all, even with that ingredient in there. I've noticed that UA-cam has been finicky with comments lately and sometimes I can see them and other times they appear hidden...I'm not sure what's going on. Or it's possible another user reported it and it got removed that way. But anyway, I did some research on this ingredient and here's what I found:
      DERMAL IRRITATION AND SENSITIZATION STUDIES
      Human
      "Zanthoxylum piperitum extract
The skin sensitization potential of 2% Zanthoxylum piperitum extract (super critical carbon dioxide extract; plant part
not specified) in ethanol: diethyl phthalate (1:3 w/w) was evaluated in a human repeated-insult patch test (HRIPT) involving
      110 subjects.
      2
Two different samples of the test substance were tested on each subject. During induction, the test substance
(on a 3.62 cm2 occlusive patch) was applied to the same location on the back of each subject 3 times per week for a total of 9
applications. Test sites were examined for dermal irritation at each visit prior to re-application of the test substance.
Approximately 10 to 21 d after the final visit of the induction phase, the challenge phase was initiated. The test substance
was applied for ~ 24 h to a new site on the back. Test sites were examined for signs of dermal irritation or sensitization. The
test substance did not elicit skin irritation or sensitization during the challenge phase and was classified as a non-sensitizer."
Apparently this ingredient is known for antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and is often used in Korean medicine. This is the article where I found this information. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=www.cir-safety.org/sites/default/files/TR_ZanthoxylumPiperitum_062023.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjnoMvZppSEAxVOElkFHZJnD3cQFnoECBAQBg&usg=AOvVaw3EYG4X-kF0earhhdrvoTeo

I love when you post skincare!
My best skincare tip for dry skin (learned from Dr Dray 5+ years ago) is to leave your face wet after cleansing and apply your skincare to it. Like, don’t towel dry your face at all. I have actual water droplets on my face when I apply the layers of toner, serum and moisturizer like you do. This just further seals in the water from evaporating and drying you out.

I started doing the Korean skincare routine because my sister has always been into Korean culture (even though we’re Mexican). And it cleared all my acne. Then once I started taking showers like twice a day because of the gym and work, I no longer felt the need to use anymore face products. All my blackheads went away and I think because of the constant showers that helped me the most. Even more than the Korean skincare. Now I just use lotion and sunscreen. So give this a try for anyone who wants clear skin (but yet again, I’m a straight guy who doesn’t wear makeup like you ladies 😅).

Omg... I've been struggling with horrible flaky dry skin this winter and layering toner helped so much!!! I have been using all kinds of balms and occlusives but this really did the trick, esp in tandem. Wouldn't have thought of it since toner is so thin. THANK YOU

I have used differin since I was 21 and wear sunscreen daily. I also have a very hydrating focused skincare routine.I’m Korean so a skincare is a habit. I definitely get mistaken for being 10-15 years younger than my age. Now if only I didn’t have so many grey hairs.. 😅

I love your recommendations. I’ve been using Korean skin care for many years and I think it’s the best. There is also some Japanese in French skin care that is also really wonderful, but for the price and quality you can’t beat that Korean skin care.

I LOVE your skincare videos. I have some chronic medical issues and the treatments and meds have dried out my skin. You always have the best products. Thank You for taking the time do test all these products for a video. Another awesome eye cream I only use in PM is the "Roc Retinol Line Smoothing Anti Wrinkle for Dark Circles Eye Cream" it's in the white tube. After the 30 days I could see a difference in my fine lines under my eyes. I stopped using thinking it didn't help but the longer off it the more I could tell how well it worked. It is super sensitive, I use daily. ❤❤your videos

AND I love the La Roche pose oil cleanser for my body in the shower, especially in the winter months. It rinses off completely, no residue at all, and leaves my skin so soft. Soaps and shower gels dry my skin too much. This product is a holy grail!!! ❤❤❤

Couldn't agree more w Korean skincare!
And your skin really looks great, Jen 😻
Surprised, you haven't tried Cosrx Snail Peptide Eye Cream, though! It's the most hydrating, soothing, luxurious, not greasy eye care I have ever tried.
My other faves are Klairs Fundamental Eye Gel & Mist, and Iunik Vitamin Hyaluronic Acid Toner.
Isntree Cica Relief Cream, Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus and Watery Sun Gel 💙 are also lasting faves.
All these are cruelty- and fragrance free, and super good esp. for dry/sensitive/more mature skin.

YES IM SO exited for this. I can’t stand the prices for anything luxury. I mean makeup it’s like. “it’s only lipstick. Or eyeshadow. “❤ I can see skincare but not what the companies charge. I have not stayed consistent with any brand. So this is perfect for me ❤

I love the HaruHaru Wonder Black Rice toner also, even the earthy smell makes me feel good. 😊 Another really hydrating Korean toner that’s amazing is the I’m From Rice. I use a layer of each every morning and night. And the CosRx snail mucin all-in-one cream, and the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen. I’m definitely interested in the Klairs serum now. ❤

Jen, the cosrx tonic also appealed to me, but it has an essential oil and I am sensitive to essential oils and if you prefer a snail mucin essence, I prefer the Jumiso brand, because in addition to the snail slime it has peptides in case you interesting, retinol oil looks interesting. I was at the grocery store the other day and was in the beauty area and saw L’Oréal Skin Care and could NOT believe the prices! But even L’Oréal makeup is up there in price! L’Oréal always was more expensive than most drugstore but goodness their prices….I get sticker shock whenever I look at one of their products! 😂

I absolutely love laRoche posay!! Also a big fan of Avene and CeraVe. I spend a little more money on my Vitamin C and i use a prescription Retin A and a prescription for hydroquinone. Thank you for this video! It helps give me a regimen for in-between the retin A and hydroquinone. I am going to order a few of these products!! Really excited about the Klairs with EGF...the only ones i have found are super expensive and i do not want to spend $200+ on a serum that may not work for me. Great video!!!! ❤ Btw your skin is flawless!

I added a few things to cart. 😊 I’m pretty happy with my skin care actives, but I do like to try different toners, moisturizers, and eye creams. The La Roche Posay oil cleanser burns the crap out of my eyes. I tried to tough it out (I’ve never had sensitive skin or eyes) but I finally gave it to my husband to use as body wash since it says face and body. The Cerave cleansing oil replaced it for me. You definitely don’t look 46 although I knew how old you are. I don’t look my age either and while I credit most of it to genetics since I am a former sun worshipper, the good skin care definitely gets some praise.
