    I owned Diorella in the 80s and I loved it! A French friend brought me a bottle. So excited you found a bottle!

    I have not had much success with vintage fragrances because the smell of the ones I have gotten seems to be so faded and have more of an alcohol smell. So glad yours was lovely! Thank you for the recommendations on the sets you featured!

      So glad you enjoyed the recommendations! I've been very lucky on ebay so far. Buying vintage is so nerve-racking. I try to buy more obscure scents that are fairly cheap to minimize the risk.

      Thank you, Natty! Yes, the service at Tauer is amazing; you can tell they really want to make it easy for people to try the fragrances (imagine that!). I can't wait to spend a whole video talking about Diorella...love!!!

    More vintages please and I'm getting into rose. So if you could do more roses review that would be awesome. 😻😻😻 I got a bottle of jacomo silences because of your review.

    I know very little about fragrances, but learning quite a bit from you and Natal. Glad you were able to get the vintage you wanted. xo

    Vintage Diorella! I'd love a review of that one. I'm a sucker for a good vintage. The Tauer and Ineke scents sound really fun.

      Definitely doing a video on Diorella. I am so grateful that the vintage Dior I'm in love with was available at a non-crazy price. Tauer and Ineke's styles are utterly and completely different but both worth checking out.

      The box on that perfume is so pretty. I love eBay as a vintage resource too. It's great because if you hate something, resell it and find something else.

      Thanks for subbing! :-) I will definitely do a Tauer video. His frags really take some time to figure out. I had a couple go from hate to love.

    I almost fell over. I bought a vintage Diorella on ebay as well. I wore it in the late 70s and early 80s. For years and years. I know mine is the real deal but it is not great. It has turned, as they say. After maybe 20 minutes I can slightly get a whiff of Diorella as I know it. Does your ebay seller have any more, do you know. My seller had excellent ratings for vintage perfume. Hard to know how it was kept before it got to him, though. It was completely sealed in the cello. But At least I have the bottle I can gaze at. I wore this on my wedding day!

      I'm so sorry that your bottle wasn't great. Buying vintage is so nerve-racking. My seller only had the one. Do you know approximately what year/decade your bottle dates to? Just curious. I honestly think the current formulation is pretty nice. It's got less "funk" to it, and it seems more sheer to me, but it's definitely recognizable as Diorella. How wonderful that you wore it for your wedding! Thanks for sharing!

    Look for a perfume house called Arabian Oud.

    You have to educate me...I thought fragrances went bad so how can you buy vintage fragrances? Also, how do you know if you are getting the genuine article on ebay? I am very curious about your answers to both! ♥ Elle

    • @JuliesBeautyDish
      @JuliesBeautyDish  10 років тому

      Hi Elle! Scents can last for decades without changing too much, especially if they are stored away from light and heat; that's the key. Often, the top notes will fade away because they are made from more volatile materials. So if a scent has citrus top notes, those might not be detectable from a vintage formula, but otherwise the fragrance can remain largely intact. As for ebay, you can never know for sure. Sellers with excellent ratings and track records are usually reliable bc they don't want to risk a bad rating and lose future business. You can research what the bottle and box are supposed to look like. I think there's less risk when you're not buying the sought after, expensive vintage frags like Mitsouko or Shalimar, etc. But even then, no one is actually manufacturing new fake "vintage" perfumes because there's not a big enough market (but of course anything is possible). The best bet is to feel comfortable with the seller and assess how they respond to any questions you have. Also if the seller has the box, there's a better chance it was stored in that box, and therefore not exposed to light. Hope that answered your questions!

    isn't ebay an absolute treasure trove for vintage fragrances! i'd be interested to hear your thoughts on "like this" by etat libre d'orange (isn't tilda swinton absolutely amazing-have you seen her reading of the poem here on youtube? hauntingly beautiful), as a brand they fascinate me. their whole "porno chic" aesthetic makes it a little easy to dismiss them. my personal fav is fat electrician, silly name, but an amazing fragrance x

    • @JuliesBeautyDish
      @JuliesBeautyDish  9 років тому

      Honestly, I thought Like This was a little sheer and not as complex as I was hoping for. I adore Tilda and will find her reading; thank you for the tip! I still like the frag, and I will probably include it in my winter favorites video. I would love to try more ELDO scents...I like that they are a bit risque and that they don't always put out safe frags. I don't know of a store in Chicago that stocks the line, but I need to look further. I'll have to try Fat Electrician for sure!

    Love this! I'm also a perfume junkie. Have you tried Jo Malone perfumes? I love them!

      @JuliesBeautyDish  10 років тому

      Hi Brittney! Thanks for watching. I've tried a few Jo Malone's but haven't gotten into the line too much. I like what I've smelled, but always wish they'd last longer. I've hear that the new Wood Sage & Sea Salt is awesome though.

    What are you looking for in your rose? Les Parfums de Rosine have a huge selection and a nice sample set: www.les-parfums-de-rosine.com/modules/scenes/detail-produit/index.php?id_prod=67
    I find them to be a little too light, but they are all nicely done.
    Rose is my favorite note, and my favorite rose by far is Annick Goutal Rose Absolue, but it's a straight-up soliflore, so if you want more than just rose, it might be a little boring to you. But my goodness, it is just the prettiest, purest, most tender rose fragrance in the world.
    Ann Gerard has a drop dead gorgeous sample set, but it's rather spendy It does have 5 ml bottles, so it's worth it, but it's almost a hundred dollars. I'm thinking you might like her mossy one. You might wait and see if she does a new one with Rose Cut in it, though. ( I didn't like it at all, but I have a hard time picking out rose in fragrances with a lot of other notes)
    Yosh Han is an indie, and she has a sample set at Luckyscent.
    I love vintage, and am okd enough to remember perfume before people's tastes changed to all this light and clean stuff, and before IFRA ruined everything! I think that's why I don't care for most of the new stuff.
    I always leave you a novel, but let me just add that if you like por Homme, you need to try Yatagan! (It is nothing like it, but it is fabulous. And notorious. I only get warm pine needles, but other people get far naughtier bits. And it's cheap!)

      I love reading your novels, Tammy! I do so appreciate all the recommendations. I did try Diabolo Rose from Rosine. I thought it was nice, but definitely poorly named! It was clean and not terribly exciting, so I haven't gotten around to trying any others. That is a nice sample set, though. I'll smell Rose Cut if I come across it, but I'm betting it's not for me...I am curious. I've heard great things about Yosh! Need to try some. Thinking about reformulated and discontinued perfumes is so upsetting! I can't believe the damage that's been done. I MUST try Yatagan; sounds so intriguing!
