You are such an amazingly thorough fragrance & product reviewer! You provide us with such a great glimpse into a moment captured in time with a fragrance! I would love to see more videos of yours! I am glad that I have found your channel! Not many will give detailed reviews for green fragrance fans, so it is really appreciated! Please come back & I am sad to see that you have not posted in many years.
I have worn this all my life from when it first came out. Now I can wear nothing else. Love it!
Dear Julie, your reviews were the best. Miss you so much, and hope you're doing well.
Loved hearing your description on this! I am such a perfume hound and have been on a no buy until I use what I have up and I am almost there!!! This Diorella sounds so lovely!
Thank you so much for watching it! What sorts of things are you attempting to use up at the moment? I know it's hard not to keep buying perfume!
I love your description of Diorella. Thank you.
I just tried Diorella today on my arm and I cannot believe I have found a floral that I am obsessed with! I thought this day would never come. Problem is, I have a 3ml decant that does not indicate EDP, EDT, Vintage, etc. So, I don't know which iteration I have! :/
I've never heard of this fragrance and continue to be in awe of the wonderful people I'm finding on youtube who have more than just a clue about perfume. Loved this, Julie. Please don't feel obliged to watch my videos in return. I'm quite keen to learn about fragrance and appreciate the information you share :) x
Well, thank you kindly for watching my fragrance videos! This scent is a bit more obscure, but it's just such a love of mine.
Great review! this has been very helpful for me.
I like a little skank in my perfume as well. I think the ones with a lot of layers in the composition make it interesting. I'd take the rotten fruit notes over some of the popular fruity florals I've smelled lately. LOL
From the fragrances you've reviewed, you seem like a vintage gal! I am not a fan of sweet, fresh "happy" fruits, lol!
for me diorella opens up like summer version of Mitsouko, if that would exist, there is very much of resemblance to peachy mitsouko, its just not that strong, which is not a surprise since mitsouko i have is 22% and diorella only 10% concentration......mitsouko and Jubilation 25 have a lot of similarities, so this is where i like Diroella it jumps straight to that 3+hour drydwon on Amouage Jubilation 25 that fruity rosey jasmine heart......then after 1.5 hour or so Diorella goes Eau Sauvague way..its citrus herbal powdery, not so balmy, but dry...like some male cologne :) its a lovely beast but to me very weak, and its no wonder since that is only 10% concentration. i suppose in older times summer fragrances would just go lighter in concentration :) if this would be 22% .....
My mother used it more than 40 years ago. When i feel, tears break up from my heart. Probably the best scent what made by Edmond Roudnitska.
After your last video and your reply to my love affair with Diorella, I took down the vintage bottle from the altar I built for it, did the Hokey Pokey, and spritzed. And I allowed myself to wait and be patient. Little by little, it came back. It's not bad, it's just that it has that "aged" note, a bit bitter. This bottle is 1974. I bought the original in 1972, the very first year, bought it at Marshall Field's on State St. The first time I wore it was on a date to Buckingham Fountain. 8 years later, I married him! And as I mentioned in my last post to you, wore Diorella on my wedding day. I have been very hesitant to order the current version. But I will. Waiting for a vintage Arpege perfume to arrive. I'll let you know!
Oh, I love going to the State St. store, which is now Macy's, of course. Macy's seems to have bought out everyone, unfortunately. I think there's a chance you'll really like the current; have you considered ordering a small decant? Less financial risk that way. Let me know how the Arpege smells!
Ohhhhh Yeah...you know I love this perfume...you hit this one out of the park. GREAT review.
Thank you! I spent so much time thinking about how to talk about this perfume, so I'm very happy that you enjoyed it! Have you tried the current version? I'm curious what you think of it!
Oh yes I have tried the current version and I am in love with it. Yes indeedy!
Lanier Smith I'm glad to hear that! You read so often about disastrous reformulations, but I think Diorella is a success...glad I'm not the only one.
I really enjoyed this video; your descriptions are great. It sounds like this would not be my kind of fragrance, especially with the cloves, but I loved hearing about it anyway. I was wondering after your last video about vintage fragrances. Don't they go bad after a while? I recently tossed my original Marc Jacobs even though it was 3/4 full because it didn't smell as good as it used to. Is MJ just crappy, lol?
Haha. Imho, some of the MJs are crappy, but not all! I haven't smelled the original one, but I've read great reviews. Ok, frags can last for decades if they are stored away from direct sunlight. If it smelled off, then it probably was. What can happen is that the top notes will fade, while the rest of the perfume is just fine. Depending on the notes, some frags are going to have the potential to last longer than others, but that doesn't mean they're cheap; they might just have a lot of notes that are more volatile.
Great review , never smelled diorella but it sounds lovely
Thanks for watching! I didn't mention this in the video, but I'd call this frag unisex. If you're near a Saks, check it out. I believe they're still the exclusive retailer, besides Dior obviously!
I simply must have it!! You are so could at keeping a girl captivated... OOOOH YYYEEAAHH I have a new fragrance reviewer to stalk yippee! I am so looking forward to the next perfume you review... I feel like whatever you love I will need to buy straight away lol! LOVED THIS!!!
Thank you so much, Natalee! You're too sweet. I stalk fragrance reviewers too. :-) I've watched quite a few of your old reviews.
Durian! Wow, it's fruit that not too many have experienced, but def a love it or hate it category. I am in the love it camp LOL as I grew up eating it and still do today, my hub can't stand the stuff.
Great review, Julie, this is one is on my must sniff list. I can see why you're interested in Pulp (the rotten fruit) now.
Yes, that is why Pulp is on my sniff list! I learned about Durian in Thailand when I went 7 yrs ago. I really do like some funk in perfume.
JuliesBeautyDish
So did you try to eat any durian? I love tropical fruits and flowers and the way the smell, there's such an explosion of flavor. Also I loved that you mentioned fish sauce... another staple in my kitchen LOL
Cleo Cam I did try Durian! My husband and I were nervous bc of it's reputation, but we liked it. I think the scent is what scares people. I love fish sauce.
If you wax poetic about spoiled flowers, rotten fruit and garbage, you might just be a perfumista! :o)
I have a love/hate thing with Ms 'ella. Sometime the rotten fruit is just Too Much. The current version has no b....ollocks, but it's not bad. I prefer Y or modern Mitsouko.
Vintage Caron is my house, and YSL and I tend to go on well together. I also like a fair amount of Bvlgari.
It's so funny that you mention Y...I've been looking for it on ebay! Do you have the current version? I've really fallen in love with the current Mitsouko edp. That one took some time, but now it's love. I'm interested in Caron, but there are so many scents. What would you recommend for me? My one stumbling block with perfume is soapy aldehydes, like in Chanel No 5 or Van Cleef & Arpels First. All I smell is soap. But otherwise I'm open to anything. What are some of your faves from YSL? Thank you for watching!
JuliesBeautyDish Off the top of my head, Miss Rocaille is the only remotely green Caron I can think of....it's a newer one and as such is a pale imitation of a true Caron, but I remember it being kind of herbally green. I think basil is its main green-ness, so it's not a traditional green; Caron isn't really a green-house! I am not sure about how much orange blossom it has, though! If you don't mind citrus, the Eaux de Csron Fraiche has got green notes as does Muguet du Bonheur, if you don;t mind LotV.
As far as recommendations, my favorites are Nuit de Noel, Poivre, and Or et Noir; I also enjoy Parfum Sacre the two Narcisse, Tabac Blonde, Bellodgia and Yatagan. All of them except Yatagan have been butchered by IFRA; I wouldn't even bother with anything but vintage, and I'd absolutely look for Nuit de Noel in the black art deco bottle, which I think is in extrait. They are all fairly heavy and not for those who like that fresh, clean stuff so popular today!
As far as YSL....I cut my eye teeth on Opium. Well, not really; I cut my eyeteeth on Joy, at three years old, but Opium was the first perfume I bought with my own money. I think I was around 16. And while I don't care for Paris, I love all the..I don't think flanker is the right word; they come out with springtime editions most years, and I love those! I also like all the Parisiennes.
My Y is quite recent; I don't think the older versions are any better, or at least not "better enough" to troll for on eBay. But dear heart, Y is full of aldies.
You will grow into aldies, trust me on this; you may not ever come to love them, but you will find one or two you really like. I avoided them for years, (especially Chanel!) til I fell for Y. And I realized last year that one of my Great Loves (Jubilation 25) is also quite aldyhydic. ( Is that a word??)
I still don't care for Chanel aside from Coramandel and 19, but aldies don't bother me as much as they used to. (Number 5 in extrait is worth a sample of, by the way. I got one from StC during a sale a few months ago, and it is exquisite. Made me realize why other folks like it, even though I still don't!)
I think you should hunt down some Chamade. I assume the vintage would be better. I'm not a Guerlie Girl, but it's not a typical Guerlain and it is lovely and green!
Good lord, this will teach you to ask me questions! I am so sorry!
Tammy James I love your advice and expertise! Thank you! I'm surprised by how much aldehydes bother me, but I bet you're right, and my tastes will evolve. I'll just test out Y next time I see it and go from there. I quite like the current Opium, but orientals aren't my obsession at the moment, so I'm not willing to pay for the vintage. I like Paris! I haven't tried any of the flankers... I should! Chamade is high on my list; thanks for the nudge. I've heard over and over that the Caron reformulations are awful. So sad. Nuit de Noel sounds wonderful.
smart, attractive and a perfume buff? u're perfect! lol no seriously u have good taste in fragrances i too love greens and orientals.. u should review cristalle by chanel (the edp is wooow)
This sounds disgusting, fish, sweat, rotting fruit, garbage. Yuck!
