This is one of most special thing about Carol - and the show. That they filmed the casual audience greetings that might take place before a show. Now days, no producer would want to gamble that anything entertaining would happen
You would have to be in Seattle and pay attention to day time talk shows like Mike Douglas Or Dinah Shore or something like that to know how they did it.
Probably because there's not a star today with Carol's brain power, to quickly adapt to almost any situation. She was/is brilliant.. and a complete natural.
Years ago, I went to a taping of the Carol Burnett Show and was fortunate enough to get to ask her a question. They did a taping and a dress rehearsal. She took questions from both audiences, and she answered questions until there were no more hands up in the audience. Then they would edit these down to about four or five minutes. This is what you see at the beginning of her show. During the tape stops, she kept walking over to the audience to ask, "Does anyone have anymore questions?" At the end of the taping, she walked over one final time to the audience and gave us the date the show would air, then she thanked everyone for coming. She was the nicest, nicest person in addition to being so talented!
@@jb888888888 Actually, I was shocked and very pleasantly surprised to find that they did air it! I had asked her if she would ever have her friend Julie Andrews on her show. Just by coincidence, that night they were having a clip of Julie Andrews dancing with Carol Burnett's lead dancer and choreographer in Julie's latest film. So my question gave Carol the opportunity of promoting the clip they would be showing. This, undoubtedly, is the reason it aired. Then Carol added, ". . . but you probably mean in person. I would love to have Julie on in person! She's not really all that talented, but I would love to have her on!" LOL Years later, I got to meet Julie at a book signing. It was later that I thought that I wished I had thought to tell her what her friend Carol Burnett said about her the night I asked her that question on her show.
They broke the mould when they made Carol Burnett. So hilarious, talented and no matter how famous Carol became, she never forgot where she came from and greeted all her fans with tremendous humility.
Did the Nick Jr. Face the Jigsaw Puzzle Promo come after the Nick Jr. Gameboard Bumper is before Gullah Gullah Island: Feelings Soup that was released on Sony Wonder DVD in March 26 1996 and on Paramount DVD in March 11 1997?
I worked in a building in NYC back in 1995 with a lot of different types of businesses. 1 was a photographer that did Broadway stuff. They mentioned Carol Burnett was coming by one day for a photo shoot...I kinda hung out in the hallway most of the day till I saw her get off the elevator. I said we watched your show every Sunday night, she was so gracious.
This is why Carol is still the best I'm only 23 and still love her. I wish I could be as lucky as the people here because my Great-Grandma Veronika was a friends of Carol's Grandma Mabel
@@coolsweetgroovy Let's release Gullah Gullah Island: Friendship Just the Perfect BlendShip and Get Out of My Hair on a Paramount DVD with a Nick Jr. Sings Segment! That way it would be re-released in September 21 1999 just like Gullah Gullah Island: Christmas!
Carol was not only funny, she was smart and most importantly, she was real. I watched her show from the time I was 7 until I was 18 and here I am 46 years later still being entertained by her. An absolute legend!
The comedic genius and humanity of Burnett in this clip: An 8 year old girl in the audience raises her hand and is called on by Burnett. She says “I live next door to one of your old boyfriends. He said to say hello”. Without missing a beat, Burnett does a classic “slow take” that is ironic and self deprecating: “Well…I’ve had sooooo many boyfiends”. The audience immediately understands the irony and she gets a big well deserved laugh. She then leans towards the girl and asks “Who?” When the girl answers, Burnett looses it completely and endearingly, “Tommy?!!!!!” “Tommy Tracy?!!!!! A completely spontaneous and sincere delight in a memory of the old boyfriend. After all the water and accolades that have passed under the bridge, she remembers and is delighted by her old high school boyfriend. She squats down to be on the same level as the little girl as she addresses her---something we adults do not do enough when talking with children. The booth and camera operator were not ready for this bit of intimacy with a member of the audience and the camera is jerked down clumsily to keep Burnett in frame. “I was in love with Tommy from 12 to 17”. She personalizes her answer for the girl AND affirms how important Tommy Tracy was and that he has never been forgotten despite all the fame Burnett garnered in the intervening years. Burnett now knows she has to re-involve the rest of the audience. She stands up and addresses the audience with “I always dreamed of marrying Tommy Tracey….Stacy Tracy and Dick Tracy”. Whether that was a comic inspiration at the moment or actually true, it brought the audience along with her as she reaffirmed her connection with the girl and her affection for that long ago boyfriend, Tommy Tracy. Maybe that’s why so many both admire and in some way love Burnett.
When _The Carol Burnett Show_ ended and the syndicated _Carol Burnett and Friends_ started one of the things I missed the most were these "lets bump up the lights" interactions. She'd come on, say "Welcome to the show" and then jump cut to "We'll be right back."
@@justayoutuber1906 Well, it was a much more simpler time and comedy wasn't or didn't have to be so crude to be funny. And the late 60's there were a lot of silly, crappy shows on to get everyone's thoughts off of the Vietnam war and the unrest here.
This just goes to show why we love Carol...so filled with love and always a kid at heart! I grew up watching her and all the gang and she's given sooo much laughter to the world! God bless her always🤗💕

...can we ALSO talk about Carol's INCREDIBLE 70's ensembles!? ...these were TOP of the line couture, and Bob's costumes included, were LEGENDARY! ...much, like CAROL....
We never really saw Carol's shows here in England, thanks to you tube. Her energy is contagious. We did get Lucille Ball and Mary Tyler Moore and I find all these intelligent women as pretty on the inside as they are on the outside.
Due to family circumstances, Carol was raised by her grandmother, who took her to the movies every Saturday afternoon, which is why many of her sketches are parodies of films from the Golden Age of Hollywood (1940s-1950s). The one parody everyone knows best (and if you haven’t seen it already, make sure you do) is “Went with the Wind”, where a drapery assembly becomes a dress. FYI, that costume is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution, an American archive of items considered historically and/or culturally significant. Oh, and Carol’s tugging on her earlobe at the end of every show, was a covert way of saying “Good night” to her grandmother.
I came after her show but I can honestly say Carol seems to be such a genuine and down to earth celebrity. To take time to acknowledge people from her past and catch up with them live on TV is something you just do not see anymore. Carol looks like she made everyone feel loved, understood that fans helped her be famous and never forgot where she came from.
Ms. Carol is a part of my happy childhood memories. I grew up watching the Carol Burnett show I would beg and beg to be allowed to stay up to watch her show on Sunday evenings.
I think Carol's interaction with the audience was just as good as the show itself. They should have done an hour long each week of just her interactions. She didn't care who she talked to she always made out like she had known the person all her life.
I remember when _Carol Burnett and Friends_ (the syndicated half hour reruns of the show) came on I was so disappointed that they cut out all the audience bits at the beginning.
