      Great video, thank you so much for that overview. I'm a VL3X user and thinking about a change as well. I really like the step function of the VL to have a certain song well prepared. Is there something similar for RC600?

      is there any good autotune (light not hard) in the boss looper? It could be used as preamp / autotuner / compressor for vocals without further fxs?

      I'm curious if the RC-600 can control the harmonizer key by sensing the guitar chords in realtime.

      Ive not been able to save loops very easily on the voice live 3? so if you lay down a guitar track how do you save it and then go to a new song and do the same so say you can have a 40 song set for an evening

    Hey, I'm late to this party, but I've been using Boss loopers since the RC-50. I've got a 600 and here's my answer to that question. At their core, they are two different boards with two different applications. The Boss pedal is about looping at it's core. The RC-50 was primarily a three track looper. The RC-300 still had looping at it's core, but added some FX and supportive features of the looping.
    As both model lines progressed, it feels like both companies just threw things in they developed working on other product lines. I see all the vocal and guitar fx as backups in case my main rig fails. If I can't control harmonies with my guitar, it's a non starter. I use a Digitech VL3 for harmonies.
    The Helicon line initially seemed like an answer to DigiTech's vocal FX for singers. At first, it's harmony was clunky. But they improved and branched into guitar stuff. I bet their vocal presets are better. If a pedal lists a looper as a secondary features (it also has a looper), that looper is gonna suck. A good looper pedal is sophisticated and you can't just cram all that functionality into a secondary features. If you do, it's not a secondary feature any more.
    The lack of easy harmony control means a singer/guitarist probably wouldn't replace the Voicelive 3 Extreme. But if they get that fixed, it's gonna be a dogfight. Thanks for the indepth video!

    The two devices have completely different intentions. If you are a singer, the voicelive 3X is still the best choice on the market. This is because the vocal effects are beauty and: They will scale automatically. On the other Hand: If you are more a guitarist and Looper Artist: The voicelive is not really usable. Yes: There is a looper in there, but it only fits a few situations and is completely useless in other.
    So: It depends on what you are, what your intentions are… In my case, i sold the boss and bought the tc.
    I need a small setup for live solo gigs and I need two track looping, only. More I need simple to use effects, because The more complex - The more can go wrong on stage and if this happens once: I am not a professional - I need time to deal with epic fails and this is a no-go on stage. So: Having everything I need in one device which is easy to use is essential for me. The Boss do not fit this requirement *for me*.
    If there are artist using backing tracks and effect automation: Nothing beats the voicelive3 Extreme.
    If you want a perfect looper: Nothing beats the Boss-stuff.
    But -> Only my opinion! I am an amateur - Something completely different is the possibility in big professional environments, where size and complexity do not matter, because there are people dealing with it for you.

    • @rejuvenator8966
      @rejuvenator8966 6 місяців тому

      @@ukura It is a good device. Some say they break easily but mine never did. I sold because:
      - Quite large size and yet footswitches are not customizable enough for my taste to make most of it. Quite a bit of tap dancing to move between vocal effects, guitar effects and looper.
      - Vocal eq is a bit poor if you use the manual one instead of the automatic shaping thing
      - Doesn't have good tone shaing for acoustic guitar imo, like you can't use IR:s or something because it's an old device before IR::s were a thing.
      - Electric guitar stuff on it is a joke and waste of space
      - They will never update the device again, last update was somewhere before covid lol
      And for all this it is too pricey considering it''s behind the progress of new effects devices. But the thing is, there are not that many options out there for vocalists. So this thing is still good in that sense. Vocal effects are good.

    I have a RC-500 and I'm wandering if the problem I have with it remains in RC-600. When all tracks are in Play Mode SINGLE and Loop Sync ON so I can play in sync with the internal rhythm all tracks must have the same number of measures. Otherwise when the a shorter track ends and next is a longer one the loop doesn't start from the begining. It's a problem for me because in general song verse/chorus/bridge don't have same size. Can you please check this?

    • @ShakeoutNY
      @ShakeoutNY  2 роки тому

      I believe Loop Sync you just have to turn Loop Sync off!! Loop Sync makes all the loops in sync with eachother, doesnt have to do with the rhythm track. Give that a try in your RC500

    • @jguitarloop
      @jguitarloop 2 роки тому +2

      @@ShakeoutNYthanks for your answer. Yes, I've done that. When I set Loop Sync OFF the tracks are no longer in sync with the internal rhythm and even if I am very accurate stopping the recording in time, it works for first played loop but if I let the loop play more than 5 times it starts to drift out of time related to rhythm. Of course if it plays just one time I dont feel the drift. There should be a way to sync tracks to the beat or measure instead of between traks. For example using TEMPO SYNC parameter that allready exists but not for this purpose. For my use this is relevant and I was hopping the RC-600 didn't suffer from this. Can you give it a try to see if it doesn't drift from the internal rhythm or external midi clock (from beatbuddy or whatever...). Thanks again.

      @jimkroft 2 роки тому

      @jGuitarLoop did you ever find a solution with this? Just bought RC 500 and the drift makes it totally unusable in this scenario with the drum machine. If you have any tips greatly appreciated - many forums picking up on the same thing. Best wishes & thanks in advance

    • @jguitarloop
      @jguitarloop 2 роки тому

      @@jimkroft bad news. I can only use RC 500 with Loop Sync Off because generally my songs have chorus and verse with diferent number of mesures. The rhythm section of RC 500 doesn´t exist for me because I can´t play in sync with it. The drift will kill the performance. The worse is that BOSS support told me directly that this is the way it should work. They are happy with this.

I'm not a looper but I do the backing track thing with me on vocals and guitar along with my bass player to sound like a full band. I like the VL3X but I'm scared that it will break down at any time. It doesn't have a great reputation. I've always been a Boss fan and have missed it so with this vid, I finally made up my mind, I'm going back by buying the RC 600. I'm thinking both me and the bass player can plug right into it with instruments and vocals and a line to our amps. For me that will be 2 Boss Katana amps for stereo. I'm not worried about the guitar sound being not good enough in the 600 cause I made the sound in the VL3X work so I'll make the 600 guitar sound work as well. Another thing I loved about the JamMan is that I had 99 different loops stored on it that I created... can I store a bunch of stuff on the RC 600?
    Thanks for your videos... this one in particular was very helpful ;)

      you can definitely store loops on both the Voicelive and RC600. But honestly if you're more interested in the vocal effects, I'd probably go with the Voicelive! The looper is still very good, but there are more options as far as vocal effects goes.

    Awesome video and nice covers man . I didn't know about this unit. I currently am seeking a consistent solution for live looping my guitar parts and would love your advice. I play some guitar parts that are repetitive but very difficult to sing over. Think rage against the machine and other syncopated repeated licks that are hard(er) to sing over and keep consistent. Live I would like either... a looper that will follow a click track and allow for midi automation with Stagetraxx 3 so I don't have to touch the looper to engage loop creation and playback/stopping. Or...something that will follow the drummer.
    I have thought about using: Using stagetraxx 3 to send time-stamped midi to a rc-5 loopstation. Alternately I have A Tc jam x2 and was thinking I'd aux out the click to it so it stays in the same tempo as the click the drummer is following. Finally I've heard that Ableton live has a tempo follow feature where I could mic my drummer's snare and have all the backing tracks follow the drummers tempo as well as automate the loop start playback and stop points. Which do you think in your experience would be most consistent to implement in a live setting where I need complex guitar parts to repeat while I sing over them? Thanks for your advice.

    I've been looking around and don't seem to see it anywhere but I was just wondering if the RC 600 has a guitar tuner or vocal pitch correction. It's no big deal if it doesn't cause I have a Boss TU3 already and I have never used pitch correction anyway but I'm surprised that no one has asked on the net somewhere sooner or at least no where that I have found. I packed up my VL3X tonight and it will be up for sale probably within the week. Loved using it and it's a great unit but I just can't play gigs wondering if this will be the night it decides to crap out . I know how to fix it but that's a wee bit inconvenient at a gig. Looking forward to the RC 600. Was also wondering if you still find it very reliable :) Everything I've seen negative in reliability for the RC 600, seems to be something that can be fixed in an update and probably already has been :)

    Hey duude hope you’re well, just wondering if it’s still worth using a mixer with the RC-600 for levelling so go instrument out and go into a Yamaha mg10xu and then amplify the sound with a Roland Cube EX using it as the speaker. Also if I’m using a bass and an electric guitar can you use multiple amp simulators at the same time, say if you want to use a bass amp for the bass in input 1 and guitar amp for guitar in input 2.

    appreciate your content. I'm struggling with this and can't find away around it unfortunately. I'm in mode 1. I want bank 1 to be receiving my drums from an external source. I want to be able to play that at a short loop say of 4 beats. I want that to be the bpm of the track so I set that first and it saves me looping drums for say 4 x 4 beats.
    I then want to go in to bank 2 and set a loop length say of 12 bars.
    now this is where it gets tricky and can't figure it out. say I've recorded guitar rhythm in bank two and now want to add other parts like harmonies or bass parts on the guitar. I want to add that to bank 3.
    for some reason they won't quantize together and the loop seems off. I know there's a global quantize but is there a way to set it so that when I set drums for 4 bars that banks two and three can be played longer but be quantized together?
    you can do this on the rc300 just by putting bank 1 in free mode and other two banks in auto mode.
    I bought this pedals for sound quality improvements, more inputs and outputs but it doesn't seem to do the one thing I want it to. I'll have to take it back otherwise.

Lets face it . boss are not going to give effects and amps like the GT1000. One massive positive thing though. I am advising anyone who reads this to avoid this Looper Pedal. It is not gig ready.
    I own this Looper and I hate it. Before anyone else wastes their money on this POS, I would read reviews on seller sites like Guitar Center or musicians friend. This looper does some cool stuff, but it also crashes often and sometimes randomly changes tempo mid songs. If you play in front of an audience it will embarrass you and make you look like your not professional. I have wasted so much time and money trying to make this POS work correctly.
    I wish I never sold my old looper (RC-300). It had less lights and buzzers, but it worked and was dependable. THE RC-600 IS NOT GIG READY.
    I am starting to think that there just isn't enough processing power in this device and no firmware update is gonna fix what never worked. I feel cheated out of my money.
    I designed my entire show around this pedal being able to slave to a midi clock. The RC-300 wasn't able to do this. Well, the RC-600 can't do it either. You're rhythm tempo will adjust, but loop playback will be a warbly mess. I've contacted Boss, their suggested solutions don't work.
    Seriously, avoid this product like the plague.
    This is the Window ME of Loop Pedals.

      Maybe in your case it doesn’t, but for myself and others it definitely does make sense. The VL3X is not just a vocal processer. It also has a 3 track midi syncable looper and guitar processing.
