Hey man gotta say been getting so much out of your videos!! I did my first gig on Sunday on guitar ever with my rc 600 but now I'm so excited about getting the chain of fx sorted!!
Hey Anthony that’s awesome to hear, thanks! It can be a little awkward doing gigs at first but fun. Really makes my day to hear the videos helped, that’s been my biggest hope. The manual is vague!
Thank you so so much for this brilliantly presented info! I haven’t known how to get stuck into my RC600, as it’s so complex, but this is an excellent lesson, You totally make it accessible!
Thanks alot for taking the time for this extensive review and analysis - it really helps! I'm thinking of purchasing this pedal, and this has really informed my thinking! :) Best wishes with future vids and your music Laura Rain and the Caesars!
Thank you very much, for the first time I am beginning to get a clear idea of the scope of the effects in this unit, in other videos you only hear generalities without any support or criteria. As expected, the ones that I liked the most are the presets that you have tailored to your needs, which I am already looking forward to hearing in that next video that you promise, making them work on the preparation of your tracks. Not only are you a good professional, you also have a talent that few people have, knowing how to explain and comment on things. If, as you say, the effects are at the same level if not better than those of the Katana amplifier, then this pedal really comes well prepared. I like your honesty in comparing it to a good analog pedal, I've always particularly liked that hard-to-get blend of warm, yet clean analog sound. I know that dirty is fashionable, but digital dirty is very unpleasant to my ears. There are moments in the video when playing the volume of your guitar suddenly you get a cleaner and rounder sound and I wonder how it is done because I don't see any light clip, I guess everything is done by ear and I don't know if at the same time that you edit you are aware of the saturation in your sound card. Finally, I would like you to give me your opinion about an idea that I have in mind, it is about connecting the reverb of the Meris brand, the Mercury 7, with a "Greek Y" cable, to the general insert of an acoustic amplifier that I have of pure class "A", to get a nice reverb for vocals. The manufacturer tells me yes, that it was also designed for vocals despite being a guitar pedal. Have you ever seen anything like it? I just love that sound of old and expensive Lexicon racks that it recreates.
Hi Emilio, yes I did notice during editing I had some clipping…terrible! Strange I did not hear it during the recording. I think I know where I went wrong. Anyway, you are correct it’s done by ear. I am adjusting guitar volume ON THE GUITAR constantly. I play like that…if I want it clean I turn down and for drive I turn up, simple. However, I did not realize until too late I was clipping the converter.too! Also, the tone of the preamp effect in the rc600 is not too bad, completely usable. I will expand on this in another video. As far as the Meris, I’m not familiar with its architecture but have read it is indeed a stellar sounding reverb. Sounds to me like you’ll figure out how to use it! Again, I’ll try and highlight more on the reverb on voice, guitar and such in the future…without clipping😂 Thanks again for the thoughts and kindness, it’s appreciated.
@@LRCDetroit Hello, thanks for the detailed answer, now I could understand better everything that I heard. Anyway I'll keep the essential, to your conclusion that it is usable. It's just that the fact to don't need it anything other than your guitar, pedal and PA that it´s so fabulous. I also really liked your proposal because it is the same one that I would like to use, that is, to make some bases for the live show, in my case to shoot the tracks in series, verse, chorus, intro, etc, but with the enormous advantage of being able to shoot them whenever you want. That is why I find it so interesting, because you can record guitars that you would not dare to carry, and arrangements with overdrive and without from the amplifier (which would also avoid having to carry it). I am waiting for your new videos, of effects, and reverb in the voice, and I tell you again that the sounds you got at the end were good.
Definitely don’t ever want to play through overdriven amps with speaker type to off. Leaving it on original should give you pretty good results with any of the preamp models if you don’t wanna worry about mixing and matching.
The part of the demo where you go through the different preamps with the speaker simulation off was painful 😅, but thanks for demonstrating the input effects! Great chops too.
Yes, the preamps are pretty poor quality overall. I do like the BOOST and FUZZ on electric guitar though, especially after tweaking the direct and effect balance to taste. I also like using the preamps/speaker sim with other instruments or microphones. Sounds pretty cool on a miked drum set, or drum machine/synth.Thanks for the compliment.
On previous Boss pedals like the GT-10 or GT-100, Even the Voicelive 3 extreme by TC helicon, I would have my banks assigned to a foot switch so switch 1 would be my clean, 2 would be dirty and 3 for lead but from what I can see so far, there doesn't seem to be a way to assign the banks to a foot switch. I can live with using A fS-5 to bank up and down but hopefully in an update, they will make it possible to assign any bank to any foot switch unless I'm missing something which I may have cause I haven't had the RC 600 for all that long. Going into the return of 2 Katana amps in stereo with chorus is just mind blowing for sure.
I might not been clear enough but I did switch banks A-D and assigned it to switch number 8. I’m making another video at the moment and will demonstrate it. I believe you can easily do what your saying.
@@LRCDetroit Thanks for the quick reply and sorry if I missed it in the vid. Great video by the way. There doesn't seem to be a lot of vids on youtube diving into the electric guitar possibilities of the RC 600 so it was really cool to see this one . I look forward to seeing the new vid and the info on how to assign a bank to a specific foot switch and thanks again. :)
Oh wow, thanks for the kind words. They are stock Fender Vintera 60s strat pickups, and yes they sound GREAT! I spent a fair amount of time adjusting p/u and saddle height to get them where I liked the balance and they sound “authentic” for lack of a better word.
You skipped right over the Transpose fx stating it's for microphones when it turns out it's much better, less warbly for low bass tones then the G2B setting especially with the Natural Clean Pre-Amp on. Another tip for quicker dial ins is to push the knob in when turning and the values change by 10 instead of 1.
Thanks so much your videos have taught me so much! Couple questions I still have maybe you can help answer. Is there a guide for the different types of Dynamics (Compressors) to see what their settings are or do you just have to go totally by ear? Also how would you explain the Dyn setting (-20 - 20) It says its the difference between soft and loud...so is that basically just the amount of compression meaning a setting at max (20) is a very high ratio and threshold? Does Attach and Release com into play at all? Thanks!!
I wish certain track could be assigned certain input fx bank. So that if i play certain track, corresponding fx bank in applied to input only without affecting the playback. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks for the great vid of the guitar fx. I'm thinking of upgrading from my Ditto x4 & Boss AD-10 to just this RC600. Questions about the RC600: Can you have tap tempo with your foot for the delay? 2. Can you create a preset for dotted 8th note delay?
Hi Lyle-haven’t answered here because I’m not sure. Some FX do indeed have sync, and can be set to note value. The delay I’m not sure about which is definitely a huge oversight. I also do know that tap tempo can be set to cc pedal, not sure if it can be delay time. I will explore it…the manual and parameter guide don’t address ii clearly..
@@LRCDetroit Thanks for your reply. Being able to set a CC pedal to tap tempo for the beat/song is good. Hoping to find out if a CC or onboard button can be programed for tap tempo delay. While I have your attention, I'm wondering about tempo with regards to the rc600...When you start to create a "song" or performance, does the rc600 need to know what the tempo is? I'm not used to that when using all the other loopers I've had.
@@LyleRonglien that’s another great question. I have always predetermined my tempo and have had issues with time stretching later. However, I believe you can start regardless of tempo. This is definitely deserving of a video demonstration! I want to know the answers as well!
It's an extremely simple process but difficult to explain in a comment here. The RC600 has 3 modes accessible through switch 5 (track select). I believe the 3rd mode by default is FX mode where you can program the switches how you prefer. I suggest reading the parameter guide.. on page 14 is a diagram of the default layout. static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-600_Parameter_eng04_W.pdf Remember ALL switches can be programmed to function to your liking, per song/preset. Good luck!
In memory 1 of the rc 600, I created 4 presets (bank A, with 4 effects for clean), bank B, with 4 effects for grunch, (bank C: with 4 effects for metal) and bank D with 4 effects for vocals. I managed to configure the knob button to change between these 4 presets, but then I have to keep reaching down to change with my hand, the question is: Is there a way to change between these 4 presets that I created, pressing one of the buttons with my foot, just like a guitar pedalboard?
That’s ambitious, good work. On page 27 of the parameter guide it lists INC BANK FX A-D as an ASSIGN (as well as DEC BANK FX A-D). So yes it should work though you might have to use 2 more switches to bank up and down. Seems like you could do this easily via a CTL pedal too.
Uh oh😁 Easy…I programmed one of the switches (number 8 I believe) to scroll through banks A-D. Very simple and works great. My only complaint is that it’s rather confusing being able to tell which bank you are currently set on.
is it possible to assign two fx bank to two inputs and use them simultaneously. I play guitar and sing at the same time. Both my guitar input and mic inputs need fx. I can make only one fx bank active at a time which is assigned to one input; another input does not receive fx. How am i suppose to get two fx banks for two inputs at the same time
record your loop for vocals on one track, that will save it with whatever input fx u have up on screen -> then record ur guitar on separate channel, but switch input fx banks b4 u hit record👱♀️🎹
Thanks for the very interesting videos. Can you tell me if the RC-600 can be used as a simple vocal and guitar processor? Assign the same effects to the guitar input, assign different effects to the vocal input and play and sing at the same time?
Yes! It's easy...when in the effect menu you scroll over left to adjust which input will be routed through the effect...you can choose ALL, INSTRUMENT 1, INSTRUMENT 2, MIC 1 or MIC 2. So, on effect CHORUS scroll left arrow one page to input select, and put on INSTRUMENT. Next effect REVERB you could set to MIC 1 using the same technique.
@@LRCDetroit Thank you very much. I could not understand this in any way from the existing tutorials. The device is complicated and no one explains such a simple thing. Thank you very much.
When playing live I don’t hear ANY latency. I did experience hearing some when recording one loop dry, and another through the fx though. It was solved when I put an effect on the dry loop. Easy to solve especially if you add say an eq, but leave it flat. The fx are pretty clean.
