Well I'm convinced my dog's a genius. He cleans his feet when he goes to bed at the end of the day. I think he licks mine so I won't leave the house again, his way of saying your day is over now stay here with me.

I just lost my best dog ever. She was fond of giving the occasional baby lick if you were petting or scratching her for a bit. I think it was a sort of “Thank you” from her.

I'm sorry for your loss I'm still grieving myself from loosing my best friend max this year I got him when he was 4mths and he passed at 12yrs from cancer 😢 I got really depressed for like a month considering I also lost a brother this year. But it's so weird out of nowhere my neighbor asked if we wanted a husky puppy for free I was a bit apprehensive at first since Max had just passed but I'm glad I went against my emotions and said yes for this new puppy is something else 😂 and I think I've fallen for the little guy I guess a new chapter has turned. Wish you the best 🙏

Sometimes I know my dog knows that I don’t really enjoy all the licking so if I am on the couch and he wants the couch for himself he proceeds to lick me off the couch. Also if I have been hurt like when I took a spill on both knees I find even after I recovered he still licks my knees. They do ache often so maybe he knows there were lasting issues from that fall. Also as of late I have been diagnosed with cervical cancer. For months my dog has been sniffing at me and resting his head on my lower pelvis....not that its been a licking issue but paying odd attention to that area of my body. Dogs may very well know stuff is up before we do. But I love my pitbull Burt and he really takes good care of me. He is my angel and I am glad I have him to go thru this tough time in my life. 💕💕
Yeh, I had a Staffordshire Tarrier and he's was very protective of his family and he was huge, but he never bit anyone - well, once he tore the shirt off a preacher that visited yet no harm done. He died after protecting his family from a rattlesnake so he's a hero dog!!!
My Sisters Dog a black Snouzer Fritz, one day she pulled up in my driveway in 1998, in Coal Valley IL when i use to live there, & she rolled her window down, her damned dog started licking me, then all the sudden that damned dog stuck his tongue down my damned throat i puked 🤮in the driveway, it just happend so damned fast, & my Sister just sat there laughing so hard... i had the dry heaves after that for 5 whole minutes which felt like forever🥴🤧... damned that dog.....
So when a dog starts lickin my hand i put a Halloween Mask on of a Cat... 😼that cools things off... dogs always freak out seeing that damned mask.

My baby King Charles cavalier stays by my side because he knows I am epileptic and he’s been by my side constantly since I’ve been having more episodes . He also wants to be with me in the lounge and next to my bedside at night, he won’t be with anyone else on for a limited time but he’s constantly following me , lays his head on me, always looks up at me with a fall in love face etc . Maybe it’s cause I’m the only house member that feeds him, trains him, walks him, and baths him. Everyone else wants his love but I think he knows the difference lol 😂 especially when it can be of great responsibility owning a pet xx

One of my cats used to groom me every day. Washing and going outside meant I washed off my cats scent. I guess it had to be re-established at the end of the day. Pride of ownership and scent marking.
I don't mind my Buddy Holly, the Border Collie, licking my face all the time, except when he curls his tongue up like a straw, and goes all the way up my nose! Your pup is so cute! xo
LILRHONDALEE I gasped when I saw your baby’s name. We have Buddy Wayne and Holly Capri. She was originally Capri and I couldn’t get on with that name. When we met our neighbors I mentioned Buddy and Holly and the neighbor looked confused. She too had a Buddy and a Holly!

Great video Dr Jones! Licking can also be a sign of submission with the dog basically saying that he/she accepts you as the leader of the pack. Licking your hand is typical canine behavior that can be traced all the way back to when dogs evolved from wolves in the wild. The pack leader would be licked by other canines, which would signify that they are their obedient companions and have missed them. ;)

I enjoy hearing your ‘informed’ take on canine behaviors... I lean toward multiple meanings for licking as dogs tend to use their mouth the way humans use their hands
I have a dachshund and she has two different types of licking. One is what you say as wanting attention. The other is a fast licking as to let me know she is stressed for whatever reason. I can tell them both are different.

Standing on the beach with my dog, a strange dog sneaked up on me and licked my hand just once and then stared at me for a moment then ran away. Very strange. My dog who is normally jealous of other dogs just watched and did nothing.

My dog/pal licks blooded scratches on my arms where he has accidentally scratched me while play/wrestling. Also he pinched with his front teeth at a scab that I believe that he took to be a tick or other parasite. Gotta love him.
Be cautious with that. There are cases where owners have gotten life-threatening infections from dog saliva in open wounds, sometimes resulting in the limb having to be amputated to save the person’s life.
@@michellegarry1872 my dog will actually scratch me if I have a scab to make it bleed. I swear he's a vampire dog. It's so gross. He's a weiner dog and moans while he licks. He's the 2nd dog I've had that does this.... If I dont have anything bleeding, he'll just sit there and moan while licking the crap out of my legs.
One of my dogs her licking is a sign of her communication. She licks harder or softer fast or slower big or little strokes. Rosie,is a deaf blind cocker spaniel I adopted about 4 years ago. I know exactly what she wants based on her licks. Food, outdoors, play or doesn’t feel well. Most of all she loves momma❤️as I love her. My Shih Tzus , will LICK out of love, more often they may have an upset tummy or other maladies. You are the best Dr. Andrew Jones💥💥💥

Well, I have three Pitbulls, the male doesn't care for licking at all, the younger female just can't stop licking me every chance she gets. The older female ( a rescued) licks me when she needs to go outside. I guess is their own way of communicating with me.

We have 2 dogs and 1 of them is just like yours lol. When someone unfamiliar comes over they'll ask if she bites and we just tell um no but she'll lick you to death 🤣. She's one of the most affectionate, gentle and smartest dogs I've ever known to be honest with you.
My dog does like this greeting lick , just a real quick one when she first sees you, but my brother doesn't like it, I've tried telling her no ,I'm not crazy about it either, mainly bc I take her with me and I don't want other people to not want her around doing stuff that they don't like. So we are trying to learn. Love her anyway, THANKS Doc.❤

My dog licks me after I give him cuddles.. I see it as a confirmation of bonding/love. Dogs licking their wounds to heal /attention to get better 💕
My miniature poodle likes me when I let him sit in my lap. He is very affectionate and he cries when I am away from the house for an without him.
Hi Dr. Jones...I absolutely appreciate you’re video on cleaning and maintaining dogs ears. I have a seven month old Cocker Spaniel (Loki) and I’m sure you know this breed of dogs ears are ridiculous to maintain. I use the green tea, acv and the tea tree oil. His ears don’t smell anymore and no more black gunk when I clean!!! All I can say is THANK YOU 😊!

I have a question about if it is ok to feed the dogs rice and chicken with chicken broth? I told the landlords friend that during the winter the 3 dog's go thru 100 lbs or more of dog food and summer it is 50 lbs or more and there was one month they went thru 150 lbs of dog food. It gets expensive and he told me take and boil the chicken in water so when it makes chicken broth you cook the rice in it and take some of the chicken and add to the rice and when cooled down feed to the dogs. I mix that up for myself with vegetables, but never heard giving that to dog's. If I can is it ok to mix it in their dogfood so it makes their food taste good but makes it last longer to save me money. I always make sure they have dog food, but some time's they run out before the end of the month and I am out of money. Before the cat passed away I would buy a 30 lb of cat food that last forever and when the dogs got low and I wasn't sure if they didn't have enough until the following month I would mix some of the cat food with their dogfood which helped. I only get so much each month and my dogs are everything to me so I was wondering what your ideas are to make sure their food to last without spending alot of money. I make sure I buy them dog treats which I break down so it last 2 to 4 month's. I get the 10 lb to 11 lb of medium dog treats and break those up to last awhile.
My Annabelle is always licking me. When my son comes home from work, she actually licks his hair and face. She was a Puppy Mill rescue and I think she's just so happy to be out of there.

My dog rarely licks me. But she licks my husband ALL the time.

We have a lab/pit mix that is a service dog. He self trained himself to check my fiance's blood sugar level by licking my fiance's hands. He only does it if it is to low or to high. I have polyneuropathy and restless leg syndrome and my dog can sense that my legs are going to act up. He licks my lower legs and lays his head over them, now I can take the medicine for it and use my pain gel before it starts.

My Morkie likes my right foot (ball and toes) to put himself (and me ) to sleep at night. When he wants me to wake up in the morning he licks the arch of my left foot!

Hi Dr.Jones my dog licks my hand and arm like three times a day she even pulls my hand towards her when I’m not close enough it’s my left hand and arm but I have arthritis in my left thumb so I wonder if she senses this I guess she thinks she’s giving me a treatment and I must day it is relaxing! I have a Boston Terrier also and every night she has to lick my feet and legs. I notice the more I have been up on my feet most of the day then the longer she licks, so wondering if that if her nightly massage to me from her. Also if her licking anoys me sometimes and I give a little jerk with the foot she is licking then she will stop and go to sleep for the night. So ya, she is very respectful in that sense. Either way, I love her, Precious that is....Peace~~~

It seems to be a trait in small dogs. My larger dogs have never licked, though they follow me around all the time. Curiously, the smaller dogs are always under my feet as well.
I've noticed the submissive dogs licks more, in canine animal behavioural science studies they indicated that licking is predominantly to show respect and affection to the dominant of the pack (feeding your dog makes you the alpha). My more dominant (matriarchal) dog will give me a few licks here and there to acknowledge me as her human alpha but never has excessive as my submissive dogs. She won't lick any other dogs, (but sometimes if well behaved will allow other dogs who has shown to be submissive to lick her face, nose...) makes sense.
My dog is a mini dachshund, and she licks me non stop until she slowly
moves down to my thigh and then proceeds to hump my leg savagely,
then comes up and licks my face as to say "thanks" then she goes under
her blankets for a few hours.
One of mine never licks me one licks ALOT. I love them both. The one that licks alot is generally more affectionate. Both the same breed.

My dog tried to trick me today. He played sad for 6 hours straight and i didn't like it. Finally I took him outside without a leash at 1am, but I sensed he was up to something, so i put the shock collar on him before going out. There's a neighbor with a female dog in heat. He pretended to use the bathroom, I pretended to not look at him. He made a break for it. ITS 1AM, SHES NOT OUTSIDE. I do admire how his tenacity)))))

Oh. You have found my shih tzu Pebbles weakness haha. She licks me all the time. It's a certain place. Usually my arm or my leg. She doesn't even try my face. I think she was put off that as a youngster. I would turn my face away. So haha she does that to me if I act like I'm gonna kiss her face. I just kiss the top of her little head. Tula is so cute! Great video! 👍🏻My male cockapoo puts his paws and weight on me when I relax in bed like you're mine and then licks my face and lips until I tell him that's enough. And he sleeps on his back like a human. I think he loves me. Yes licking is their way of affection. Of course Tula would love you because you are sooo good to her.

I heard it was to agitate the feeding process. Licking the mouth might begin regurgitation of food. Licking the nipples could begin the milking process. Honestly... I think everything we do is based on trying to get food. I'm good in bed because I'm hoping for a big breakfast in the AM.

What was this program all about?
I have ten dogs. Only Bakara Jenkins, a Cane Corso/pitbull mix, bathes me from head to toe! She licks so much I have to tell her, "No! I don't need a bath!" LOL My other dogs lick me, but with Bakara it's become almost a sign of anxiety? All of my dogs are rescue dogs. Bakara was used by a backyard breeder until she was 5-6 years old when she wound up at a kill facility in Beaumont Texas. I drove the 9 hours to get her because she didn't deserve the life she was given. I promised her she'd never ever have to have another litter or a male again! I took her to the vet straightaway and got her the medical help she needed and returned for her spay! I have four Chihuahuas and she tries to bathe them like a litter of puppies! They are almost her age so she endures lots of growls and some grouchiness from them! LoL
She never complains!
Bakara sounds like a sweet dog! It's sad that she had to go through all that but I'm very happy she found a happy home with you..

This video made me laugh! Tullah is so sweet. I have another dog who licks his doggy bed or our comforter incessantly after he's had a meal or because he's bored. The vet told us some dogs with anxiety do that to calm themselves. Anyhoo, give Tullah a big hug for me!

As a kid, I didn’t mind when my doggy licked my face, but now as an adult watxhing my dog eat gross things from the yard and licking their own genitals, I decided I want no more licks ever.
I think my dogs do it for two additional reasons. First, to show their submission to me. And secondly, to mark me as their own. My two are litter mates and they are always competing with each other in their ownership over me. It can get really annoying since I love each of them equally. In addition, I develop contact dermatitis to their saliva where they lick me.
