    Thanks for the review. I just bought this set and it will be my first front loaders so I'm glad you like it. Sucks that the cycle is so long but the one I bought (technically a wm3400cw) does have a 15 minute cycle for lightly soiled loads.

      I had a family member at home in end-stage dementia, incontinent, and going through at least a set of sheets per hour. I bought the LG WT1101CW because Consumer Reports recommended it.
      I had eight sets of sheets for her bed, and the caregivers were always asking for more sheet sets because the washer couldn't keep up.
      I spent evenings after work at the corner coin laundry trying to catch up.
      That LG was absolutely the worst washer ever built!

  • @abmrose

    I just got the combo version of this washer. It takes longer per load, but I can literally wash twice what my speed queen top load could wash at one time!
    I was also shocked how clean my huge load got, and no detergent residue showed up when I swished a clean garment in water- so it rinsed well too.
    I used to use 4 TB detergent per load in my top load washer… for this I use 2 TB for the huge “double” size load to get both clean and having no residue.
    So my detergent will last 4x as long! Impressive.

      One thing you might want to know is that the most stingy cycle with water is normal... and that's what most people use....I think that's because they base the energy guidelines on the normal cycle... You may notice other cycles use more water and the definitely use more water in the rinse than wash

    • @One-Day-After-Another

      That's the way I look at it.... Take an older top loader that's 3.5 cu feet and takes 40 min's... But then what was 5 or 6 loads in that washer is 3 in this one.... so it basically evens out... and with the turbo wash models the times can go way down....but if you want long washes in those you can still get them. I trust Eugene if he says he likes LG and even takes them apart and looks at everything... I trust his advice. But for safety I'd still plug any modern washer into a surge protector

    My LG front load is 10 years old. Only replaced the door latch and did it myself. Washer stopped tumbling and that was the issue. I had a heads up because for about a year I had to give the door an extra nudge shut. My cycles are average 55 minutes. There are pre wash and extra rinse. which I sometimes use with a short wash cycle. Hand wash is excellent, tumbles one way then has a long pause, then reverses. This mostly soaks the clothing and not tumbles it. It has a 22 pound wash capacity and can wash all my quilts.LG's are also direct drive with no belts and a lifetime warranty on the stainless steel drum. I love my machine.

    Bought this and companion dryer based in part on your review. I agree, this thing barely uses any water. My main complaint is the water hammer in my pipes when the valves close abruptly - I added water hammer arrestors to the back of the machine and it's better, but not totally mitigated.

    About the "not enough water", there is a screw (with red loctite on the screwhead) at the back left (1:31)) that can be turned clockwise a little ways to adjust water level up. Caveat: it will void the warranty.

    Great to hear this is a good machine because we just ordered it during Lowe's 4th of July sale and it will be our first "modern" washing machine. Always owned top load with agitators, but figured this would be a good entry level front loader to try out for the price and ease of use.

      @@k.kreations.g It's been pretty good! Clothes always get clean and smell fresh. We keep the washer door open to prevent mold/mildew in the rubber seals. The dryer has had one issue, which was lint buildup that required me to take it apart and vacuum out all of the lint that was causing it to overheat and shut down. Thankfully the machine is smart enough to sense the problem and give the appropriate code so you can self diagnose and fix without the need of an expensive repair call.

But, I found this to be the most accurate description of the washer that I’ve had for three years and I love that you have a ketchup test and I love that you get emotional about the fact that there isn’t enough water you rock on and have a great Fourth of July weekend.

    Many modern front loaders have options of much shorter "express" cycles such as 15mins & 30 mins. The Fisher & Paykel front loader I have does an excellent "everyday" wash in just 49 minutes!!! Admittedly it has both a hot & cold water intake plus an on-board heater. The other thing people seem not to understand is "lack of water" and this is really about immersion (water-guzzling top-loaders) v.s saturation (water-miser front-loaders). As long as fabric is saturated with sudsy water it will get clean. Fabric doesn't have to swirl around in massive amount of water to get clean, in fact, more water dilutes the detergent more. Finally, the tumbling action of front loaders is a much more effective and efficient cleaning method mechanically speaking.

    • @dregenius
      @dregenius Рік тому

      Thank you for saying it. These water-guzzling fetishists who start drooling when they see a top loader fill up with so much water that their well has run dry really crack me up. Water does not clean, detergent does. Water just moves the detergent through the fabric. Every *actually* developed country (and pretty much every developing country too) has moved to front loaders nearly a century ago. I would say I have no idea why americans are so stubborn about top loaders but I think I know why... using a lot of resources makes us feel like we have "freedom" - freedom to use as much electricity and water as we want, and our ability to convince ourselves that we the consumer know, at a very technical level, how washers work, and that our government shouldn't tell us how to do laundry. It's all nonsense because it's not the government, it's appliance manufacturers (or at least, the good ones... the American brands like whirlpool seem to do exactly nothing in terms of R&D for over 60 years now...) who have put in the work to study exactly how to effectively wash clothes.

  • @21genman
    @21genman 4 роки тому

    I understand the feeling that you have about the water level. I was watching how it washes the clothes to check it out since we just got it today and found it weird that it didn't really soak the clothes at all. I thought it was a concern since the top loader washer that we have came with the house and it's a very old washer that didn't usually fill the tub even when we had it set on the large load. I just hope it still cleans well and that the detergent doesn't stick to the clothes

      Agree. Where we live, water is a very valuable resource and we are always finding ways to save water. I don't really mind a cycle that's over an hour because the water savings make it worth it. Americans don't realize how easy they have it.

    • @dregenius
      @dregenius Рік тому

      @@spencerwilton5831 It really is amazing how so many americans can love top loaders when they consistently perform worse - they clean worse, they rinse worse, they wear out clothing, they have barely graduated past 600 rpm spin speeds... then you realize, americans don't like them for any actual sensical reason, they like them because it's obvious how wasteful and ineffective they are. Having the "freedom" to be wasteful but also stubbornly ignorant about how washers work is something encounter every single day selling these machines. I will ask a little old lady if they want "the best wash performance while being least likely to damage clothing and also reducing detergent residue with a high spin speed" they will say "Absolutely, which one is it?" (while motioning at a "new" whirlpool top loader which is so archaic it may not actually have a spin mode at all)... as soon as I tell them it's an LG front loader, they get hysterical and act like I'm their child "I will not have one of those in my house, not going to happen". I ask them why and they say "I just don't like the idea of it. It seems morally reprehensible to load your washer from the front!" or some nonsensical drivel. I'm hoping I can revise my sales pitch before I just give up on American consumers entirely.

    I have a WM3400. Its only 3 years old, I've had to replace both water inlet valves and all 3 shock absorbers. Its easy to work on but boy are the parts light duty. $300 just for the parts. Paying a technician for these 2 repairs would have totaled the machine, was a black Friday deal for $598.

      Amateur repair tech here. I'm pretty sure the motors, pumps, and dampers of all washers come from the same factories in China. You can even see this on the Maytag Commercial washer teardown, which is why I decided against it. Considered the Speed Queen but from the Lorain rebuild video, it looks like a pain to take apart and put together (3 hours+ to redo the tub seal!). The thing about this washer at least is that it is convenient to open up when these parts do fail, I'll probably look into modifying mine with more robust parts and see how it works out.

    When I look up reviews on front load washers I will see bearing failure as one of the primary reasons why their machine did not last but a few years, I was wondering if any of those people overloaded their washer without really
    knowing they did it, One time I heard a loud banging downstairs that resonated thru the whole house like someone taking a jack hammer against the furnace, went downstairs and our front load Samsung was banging against the dryer as it was shaking back and forth while in its high speed spin cycle , I stopped it and asked my wife, what are you washing in there a bowling ball ? NO, just those two small rugs from the bathroom ! I opened the washer door to take the rugs out and yes there were both small, but when those rugs were wet they felt like each one weighed 20 lbs ,
    a few months later the washer failed, I took it apart intending to fix it but parts cost made repairing it not a practical option , the spider bracket that holds the drum was a still in good shape with minimal corrosion ,but had cracks in several spots which no longer kept the drum turning level and allowed it to wobble and do all the damage,
    I believe that over loaded wash load led to my washers failure,

    • @Ikey04-ge9gy
      @Ikey04-ge9gy Рік тому

      Nope. The failure of your washer had more to do with the shoddy bearing and spider quality that Samsung has in their front load washer

    • @paulhope3401

      As a White Goods Engineer who works on washing machines daily my advice to you would be...
      Avoid the pods full stop, use the liquid detergents for hard water areas and powder for soft water areas.
      The pods leave a layer of slime behind that builds up over time leaving a sludge that not only becomes a breeding ground for mould/ mildew/fungus/bacteria which create nasty smells, it also goes into your laundry and therefore on you.
      The fungus will also go into the open pores of cast aluminum drum spiders and seems to weaken them causing the spider to eventually crack/break.
      Oh.. and the slime from these pods will also deposit themselves in your tumble dryer clogging up the drain holes leading to the pump.
      Hope that helps..

      Use a flashlight. These perform so well I'd happily use a flashlight if I didn't have a bright laundry room. Thankfully it was trivial to change out the cheap builder provided fixture with a bright LED light where my washer is so I have no problems reading the display.
      However it is annoying they use dark text on a black background and worthy of criticism. Stupid designers. Still not enough to avoid getting this machine. I'd print my own labels if it was between using this machine or having to get another.

    We have this same machine. Purchased it about a month ago. It makes a very loud banging noise as the tub shifts itself back and forth during the spin cycle. Light loads of about 7 or 8 towels or a mixture of clothes and towels. Doesn't seem to matter. We were thinking something has to be wrong. Called LG and they sent a "tech" out who just left a while ago. He said the machine is very temperamental and that we just need to try different loads in it till we come up with the right combination so that it doesn't get so out of balanced! Said you can have to little or to big of loads. We tried a full clothes basket load of various clothes after he left and got the same banging results!! Have you noticed yours banging at all during the spin cycle? I still think something is wrong!

    I've had this washer for 5 days. Done maybe 6 loads. I agree that the display is hard to read, I use a flashlight to read it. It seems to clean very well but when it's in the spin cycle the noise it makes is unbelievable. I want to hold on to it to keep it from shaking apart. I thought it had something to distribute the load to balance it out. Will do a couple more loads before calling Home Depot.

    Actually what happens with this type of washer is it beats the dirt out of the clothes. With all the tumbling it really rinses over and over in the soapy detergent without raking it without a widge that sticks out on flat cylinder. I Iike front loader type , but mine is a top loader that a spinner in that spins them back and forth. It does very on certain things. All I could afford.

    I bought this model a year ago. I paid over $1,100. It does not clean at all. It barely gets your clothes wet. Half way through a cycle, I could see dry areas on my clothes. You can't wash a king size quilt. I did two 2 hour cycles and it was just as dirty coming out as going in.

    I just replaced my 15 year old front loader Whirlpool Duet. I loved it and thought it cleaned great until my new LG 3500 series front loader showed me differently. I read and re-read the instructions and loaded it up to capacity. It was not overloaded, but held a lot of laundry. I had my doubts as to how it would clean that large a load but was amazed. The clothes were cleaner and softer as well and I only use vinegar as a softener. But, I have a question. Is there an efficient way of doing small loads? I prefer to wash more often rather than letting a huge hamper full of clothes to collect. I am still a bit confused on how to do a small load without having the machine run for a super long time.

    • @12333
      @12333 4 роки тому +1

      2-4 articles of clothing is perfect for a 15 minute speed-wash. But even smaller loads will take at least 50 mins on this machine. You can reduce the time by selecting the lowest soil setting.

    • @patcola7335

      @Isaac Joby John A Whirlpool is easier to get parts for though. As far as front loaders go they all tumble clothes the same way. Whirlpool gets excellent scores for cleaning in CU. That was one of the reasons I originally got the Whirlpool WFW6620, but also because they are a US brand and have been very reliable appliances in my usage and experience over the years .

      D.A. Arthur we have used front loaders in Europe for decades. Nobody has had a top loader since the seventies, they simply don't exist here anymore. We don't get slime. If you are getting it it's because you are using liquid detergent which is a nightmare for any machine, and not doing a occasional very hot wash. Plus, it's important to leave the door open when not in use.

      That's what I did with my LG washer that I bought in February 2012. After owning a Frigidaire from loader for 13.5 years, I was disappointed in how little water the newer front loaders used. The Frigidaire front loader I bought in 1999 had a smaller drum (3.1cubic foot), but the door was smaller than the drum (unlike most of today's models, where the door is almost as big as the drum), and the drum filled a third of the way up the drum. So you knew it used enough water. The lightest load used 18 gallons, and the heaviest used up to 27 gallons of water. The timer was mechanical, and had 7 cycles: Regular (heavy,, normal and light), Permanent Press (normal and light), and Delicate. It also offered a separate prewash cycle, though I didn't like the prewash on the Frigidaire, because I had to reset the washer to start the regular cycle. On the LG, at least it was included in the cycle, if I pressed prewash. The old Frigidaire had a wash, spray rinse during the draining of the wash water, then 3 rinses, and the longest cycle was only 50 minutes. On my LG with a 3.6cu.ft. drum initially filled to barely cover the bottom of the drum, leaving too many of my clothes dry. I have mine set so it fills to the top rim of the drum. I can still open the door to add clothes, if needed. Since I only use the normal cycle, I add another rinse, so it does 3 rinses, instead of 2 by default. Because of that, the shortest time is 1 hour, if I select light soil. My next LG will have the turbo wash.

    • @brigitas9176
      @brigitas9176 5 років тому

      @@davenwin1973 I adjusted water level on my LG and love it. Mine has turbowash. Normal cycle ( hot water) with turbowash and extra rinse takes 45 minutes. I bought it in 2013. No mold or bad smell issues and I noticed the window never gets gunky after adjusting water level. My adjustment is also subtle, so I can still open the door during wash. On rinse it fills a little above drum lip. It made huge difference in washing quality.
