Everything about Death's design and character is amazing. For one, him being a wolf is also a nice tie into real life of how wolves are hunters that literally chase their prey to exhaustion. You can see Puss out of breath everytime Death chases him; getting closer and closer. Also his sickles are a nice addon because historically they're more associated with death that the farming scythe. Absolutely every little detail about Death was genius and props to the team behind this movie.

I've been reading comments on other reactions that Death was actually scaring kids in the theaters. It really is his whistle that puts everyone on edge and the red eyes that pierce your soul. While it is a family movie, this movie really is for us kids who grew up with Shrek and now want to see more adult themes.

I always appreciate when family movies are willing to push the limits of what ideas and themes they can portray. Not only does it make the movie more engaging for the adults like you said, but it also challenges the minds of younger viewers and may help them understand the world on a deeper level.

I don't think it is terrible for kids though, especially with the end. The question of "What is death" is something most kids sooner or later ask either a parent or at the very least themselves. And this death shows that he wants you to _live._ to appreciate the life you ahve and treat it with respect.
I can definitly see it scaring kids, but if the parents do it right, I can also see some very important and good conversations coming out of it

I showed this movie to my 7-year-old niece and my 4-year-old nephew (plus my two-year-old niece but she wasn't paying attention the whole time) about a month ago. The oldest covered her eyes during some of the wolves scenes but she did it as a precaution; she loved the movie and wasn't scared in the end. My nephew couldn't take his eyes off the screen when the wolf was present and he was never scared. I talked to them (a bit throughout the movie but mostly at the end) to make sure they understood everything that was happening and what the movie message was. They loved every second of it and caught on the main themes. The oldest was very curious and a bit confused about the wolf's intentions and motivations, but also in general about who did the wolf represent (they still don't fully have the concept of symbolism and metaphor). What's important is that they understood that the movie teaches about being grateful for what you already have and that sometimes what you wish for is right in front of you. It's said that kids can handle movies that are a bit scary as long as there is a happy ending; that's how I think my niece and nephew felt.

Disagree. He's mad about Puss disrespecting him and his lives, and so he's getting a sadistic kick out of ending this last one early as punishment. He's visibly upset that Puss learned his lesson. He wanted more than anything to kill Puss because he could, but his standards wouldn't let him. The fun in it was gone, and it wouldn't have meant anything anymore. He wasn't doing his job, he was taking revenge and savoring the chase. He's definitely a villain, I think the take that he isn't is just not right. He's a great character and he absolutely steals the scenes he's in, don't get me wrong. I love Death. He's just not so noble as people make him up to be.

@@Talguy21 definitely a kick out of it, but i didn’t see him as upset, just sighing that the fun is out of the picture- don’t think he was upset that he doesn’t get to kill him. He was specific in saying who he was after, once Puss learned the lesson he’d left him.
Death was being disrespected, if you think on it it isn’t a character that resembles death or is a visual aid, he’s meant to be death himself, so him being angry makes sense and doesn’t seem villainous to me anyway, if looking at it technically- his perspective, makes sense.

Death doesn't really want to kill him necesseraly, he just wants to acknowledge that him doing his Job is what makes life precious and important.

So this film really did (artistically) two things differently compared to its predecessor (and much 3D animation generally):
1 - The film is rendered at the expected 24 frames per second and renders motion blur to smooth out very fast movements, BUT during action sequences the _characters_ animate at 12fps (known specifically as animating "on twos") and use techniques associated with 2D animation, like smear frames and action lines (instead of the motion blur associated with 3D rendering or live action).
2 - The overall "painterly" visual aesthetic, from the much more vibrant color saturation to some background elements being less detailed, more abstracted.

Death is, in my honest opinion, not wrong. Hear me out. At the beginning of the movie, Puss is a pretty awful guy. He puts a whole town of people in unnecessary danger just to grandstand and show how untouchable he is, but at the end of the day... he instigated that fight with the governor and put everyone in the middle of it. The governor would not simply have been willing to imprison everyone there, he legitimately was going to. And then, because he can't resist showing off, he summons a bigger fish, who would have actually killed the people of Delmar. Still, even before the fight, he steps on a child's face without a moment of hesitation. And then we see in his death montage that they are all stupid and careless deaths. He pretty clearly doesn't genuinely value his own life, or the lives of other people. Heck, when he's running from Jack Horner's people, and he just tosses the gold into the street, he spins a good PR take on it that it is a gift to the people... when it is fundamentally a way of using the people to cover his escape. That's when Death shows up to tug on his leash a little, as if to say, "Don't get too cocky." After all, if the horses hadn't stopped in time, those people could have been seriously injured if not killed outright. At the end of the day, Death is after Puss because he is just fed up with him living so recklessly, destroying the lives of those who care about him... and ultimately... Death kind of wins. That version of Puss is gone, and a Puss that values those around him, and sees value in himself beyond the legend has taken its place.
Also, a few more fluff details. I love how the corner motifs on Puss' death cards is a stylized depiction of Death... and I love that we've got Florence Pugh and Ray Windstone working together again, though this time in a more positive way than in Black Widow XD Also, early on, her outfit is very colorful with a lot of blue in it, but as we're getting to the last act, it becomes brown... a lot more like the bears' fur. So many amazing details in this movie.

Not 100% sure if they are scarier exactly… its close though. but more disturbing for sure: Friar Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dome… oh, and possibly Mother from Coraline… though Death here definitely has the dread aspect down Lock and Key.

This is such a good movie! So glad you watched it ❤ I'd love to see you react to Hazbin Hotel. There are 8 episodes, 22 minutes each, and it's a musical that takes place in hell. I think you'd love it!!

Lol, I checked the review of the movie in a cinema in Norway, and a mother complained and gave the film a 1 star 'cause her child, who was actually too young for the age group of the movie, was scared of the wolf. They left before even getting 20 min in. A bit unfair to the movie, as it's awesome.

"why am i getting intimated by a animated movie...you grown" its a movie, its supposed to make you feel things animated or not,if it doesn't,then why watch it,why make them (studio ghiblis Miyazaki is an outlier, the man has created some of the most breathtaking animation but seems like he craves death to it all)

I know of some very scary animated villains. However they where episodes and not a full movie. LarryBoy and the Fib from outer space. And LarryBoy and the Rumour Weed. The bad apple episode isn't that scary. And the villain in the league of incredible vegetables isn't scary at all. So yeah. The first 2 villains are scary for kids. And theatricality dark. More maniacal, but overall harmless.

Actually, the character of death is the antagonist and Big Jack is the villain so... And the animated villain that has scared me the most is Frollo from The Hunchback of the Notre Dame.

    • @trytotopthis3152
      @trytotopthis3152 20 днів тому

Death is an antagonist that but he also falls into the villain role. All villains are antagonists but not all antagonists are villains. Death goes out of his way to break the rules and sadistically torment Puss for wasting eight lives making light of Death that Death himself makes it his personal mission to stalk, torment and hunt Puss down when he’s on his last life. He’s a villain straight up. I don't know why people in the UA-cam comments always have to correct everyone who says Death is a villain. Also, just because a character is a villain doesn't mean they're on the same level of depravity as Jack Horner himself. Not all villains are pure irredeemable evil like Horner.
