The only thing you'd really need the first movie for is Kitty, but even her character here is written in a way that you dont really have to know who she is previously. Santa Coloma is something the first PiB film does not include. Them getting married is a plot twist for everybody ^^

What I really like about Death is that he's consistent with his own rules rather than Calvinballing it. Death is WAY more powerful than the Wishing Star so, it has no power over him. He's a constant of existence, the inevitable endpoint of everything, and the Wishing Star is just a random fluke of the universe that only has the power to influence a part of it.
There is nothing more certain than death, nothing can truly escape it, as it can only be postponed. There is a reason why death is usually the most powerful entity in stories.
If Death is more powerful than the Wishing Star then it would mean no wish would help Puss escape Death, right? Death would just speedrun through all his regained lives... but then, Death implied that it would be possible for Puss to run away, he said "what are you going to do, run away to more lives, or are you gonna fight?!"

Symbol of death River of Relaxation? Literally all the landmarks have to do with Perrito's attempted drowning, but because he's so innocent and has no regret, it's fine. Kitty has her map based off the heartbreak of Puss leaving her, Puss has his map based off his fear of death.

Fun fact, while hibernation is associated heavily with bears, they don’t _actually_ hibernate. They go into topor, effectively still power-save mode, but it allows them to just _wake up_ at any point during the time of year that they’re in it, and function as well as they would normally to address whatever caused the early wakeup. Now, whether that tracks with fairy tale and fiction bears in general… unknown. Probably whatever is more convenient.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't immediately understand that the wolf was Death. I understood that the bounty hunter was imprinted on his iconography because he was a representation of death, an image. Not that he was Death strait up. I thought before the reveal that Puss had only encountered him once or twice: the first encounter and when Team Friendship stole the map. Otherwise, I thought it was his trauma talking. It had the same effect on me as bleeding Puss. It shocked me, not because he had never been cut by a blade, but because it was blood in plain sight in an animated family film. If there is blood, it must be hidden! Well no. This film took people used to watching animated films seriously by surprise.
We all knw Puss in Boots was basically Zorro and Antonio Banderas is killing both roles. Even though I always wanted Raul Julia to play Zorro but he passed after Street Fighter and that hurt big time.
I might be reaching here so if I am let me know, but I just thought of this. So death is normally portrayed with a scythe, a farming tool to harvest crops since death harvests souls. And here he uses sickles, another farming tool used for harvesting but its used for smaller crops and since Puss is a cat, hes using those. I know its most likely to just make him cooler, but its a thought

Jack is the thematic villain to Goldie and she's the one who ultimately defeats him. Notice the sequence when they rip the map. She gives the go-ahead to it. Goldie lets go of her desire because she already has it, she just needed to see what was right in front of her, and Jack holds on to his and is in the end consumed by it. The Ethical Bug is far from okay. When he flies in on the phoenix near the end he's still missing the leg and wing he lost when Jack flicked him. He's only fine at the end because the phoenix healed him before she left. This also explains the reason Jack has 12 Bakers left of the Bakers Dozen when he shows up again in The Dark Forest (A Bakers Dozen is 13) after one of them died and the rest were pretty roughed up by the Posies. Jack used the phoenix to heal them, I guess since hauling around a lot of wounded would seriously hamper his style.
Death doesn't appear on the map for the same reason AIR doesn't appear on the map. Death's always everywhere. He doesn't bother chasing Puss. He doesn't have to. Because he is wherever Puss is, wherever ANYONE is. Always. You can't run from Death. You can't hide from Death. Because wherever you run, however you hide, he is always RIGHT THERE NEXT TO YOU. He isn't chasing Puss. He's just manifesting and demanifesting his physical form wherever Puss is or is going... but even when Puss seemingly left him in the dust, as an adventurer, Death is constantly at his side.
Puss said, about the map, that there is "a different terrible path for everyone". But Perrito gets a different kind of map. Was it having mercy on him? Or... Pocket full of posies is a line taken specifically from a nursery rhyme about death River of Relaxation, as if to say if he just relaxed when he was thrown in the river, the bad things he was suffering would end. The Fields of Quick and Easy Solutions... what's the quickest and easiest solution to one's pain? Except it doesn't really work on him, cause he's stupid happy already.

They go into topor, effectively still power-save mode, but it allows them to just _wake up_ at any point during the time of year that they’re in it, and function as well as they would normally to address whatever caused the early wakeup.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't immediately understand that the wolf was Death. I understood that the bounty hunter was imprinted on his iconography because he was a representation of death, an image. Not that he was Death strait up. I thought before the reveal that Puss had only encountered him once or twice: the first encounter and when Team Friendship stole the map. Otherwise, I thought it was his trauma talking. It had the same effect on me as bleeding Puss. It shocked me, not because he had never been cut by a blade, but because it was blood in plain sight in an animated family film. If there is blood, it must be hidden! Well no. This film took people used to watching animated films seriously by surprise.
We all knw Puss in Boots was basically Zorro and Antonio Banderas is killing both roles. Even though I always wanted Raul Julia to play Zorro but he passed after Street Fighter and that hurt big time.

I might be reaching here so if I am let me know, but I just thought of this. So death is normally portrayed with a scythe, a farming tool to harvest crops since death harvests souls. And here he uses sickles, another farming tool used for harvesting but its used for smaller crops and since Puss is a cat, hes using those. I know its most likely to just make him cooler, but its a thought

Jack is the thematic villain to Goldie and she's the one who ultimately defeats him. Notice the sequence when they rip the map. She gives the go-ahead to it. Goldie lets go of her desire because she already has it, she just needed to see what was right in front of her, and Jack holds on to his and is in the end consumed by it.
The Ethical Bug is far from okay. When he flies in on the phoenix near the end he's still missing the leg and wing he lost when Jack flicked him. He's only fine at the end because the phoenix healed him before she left. This also explains the reason Jack has 12 Bakers left of the Bakers Dozen when he shows up again in The Dark Forest (A Bakers Dozen is 13) after one of them died and the rest were pretty roughed up by the Posies. Jack used the phoenix to heal them, I guess since hauling around a lot of wounded would seriously hamper his style.
