The Profoto just seems like a flex. I understand that in our line of work, image is everything, but really, the client will not even think to care. Spend the money you save by going with the Godox on better lenses instead!

All one has to do to make a comparison is look at the prices: Godox V1: $199.00--Profoto A10: $1095.00. Both have an output of 76ws. Godox remote control: $69.00--Profoto remote: $400.00. No Brainer. It's foolish to buy a Profoto. At one time they ruled the roost, but like many things they've become dinosaurs. They think they can still charge at 2,000% markup and stay in business. Time will tell. Technology is going to put them under unless Profoto grasps reality and lowers their prices dramatically. If they don't, bye, bye, Profoto, you won't really be missed.

You are right but Because people buying Profoto will drive the Godox prices up . The new V1 pro is 329$ and the S2 attachment its another 50$ but its still significantly cheaper than Profoto. I preorder one and will compare it with Profoto when it ships. If it’s only 15%-20% better than the original V1 will kill Profoto in spades. Also the new Nano remote will make the system super desirable . Godox is up for development big time compare with Profoto

Great review yes way too many annoying buttons settings on the cheaper Godox 1 having a 1970's Casio watch style lcd screen. Trigger is too big bulky . Way too difficult to configure as too many buttons need pushing is very annoying . Not worth it . Happy I Got rid of all my Nikon flashes as they also have the same annoying flash menus with too many buttons and settings, it's old school tech from 1970's .Profoto nailed it, but they make you pay for the ease of use, they meet the market for the pro use as pro wants this quick easy use case and will pay for it , Profoto realise no body can compete with them theres no other alternative on the market .

Also now i am using a Glow Para snap 28” which also work without adaptor with these flashes and has a better push down safety to keep your flash strongly attached to it. The Angler softbox packs slimmer and sometimes it works better to carry with you. . Both softboxes are easy to set up and break down while diffusing the light pretty good . Jodi, i have multiple Profoto and Godox lights and i use both systems for few years . The built quality of Profoto is indeed better. The battery doors on Godox triggers are very flimsy in my experience. If you shoot ettl with off camera flash with Profoto you also get inconsistency and miss fire. You need to choose a system which you like and stick with it to learn how to roll with the issues . There is no magic flash to work flawless all the time in ettl. @jpdj2715 Рік тому +2

What a very nice review and reasoning. As both Profoto and God Ox are completely opaque about the "power" of these speedlights, my question: (if you still have both, then) could you take both at (1) manual and (2) full power with (3) the zoom reflector set for a 35mm lens and (4) without any diffusers or adapters on the flash heads, then each (5) at precisely 2m distance from a reference subject, and (6) for each record the aperture number (f/number), using (7) the same lens and settings for both, and (8) having the camera at its X-sync shutter speed. The reference subject could be a colour reference and grey scale card, or, say, a Caucasian face (because that kind of skin approaches reference grey).
Finally, (9), could you report your findings back to me, here?
As to "over exposed" with the Profoto, note that the ISO institute does not specify "correct exposure" with the ISO unit for light sensitivity. In the film past, we had almighty Kodak that set the standard, but today with digital cameras, manufacturers have their own opinion (where probably the marketers contribute more than the developers, engineers and photographers).
If the Profoto is consistently too bright then that should be an easy correction - however, I would still make sure to verify with Profoto if there is a firmware update. As TTL mode uses the camera's approach to light metering and the camera must tell the speedlite to cut its flash off as soon as the camera has had enough, the speedlight will be too slow when it takes too much time to parse, and follow up on, the camera's commands. So, check for a firmware update.

JP, I did the test today . I had the flashes at 6' ( which is roughly 2 m) from my Sekonic meter. ISO 100, SS 125/s. I had the V1 head zoomed at 35mm and the Profoto zoom out at the widest setting which by Profoto specs is 32mm .( Profoto doesn't have a numeric scale just an animated U shape which opens and close when you rotate a ring on the flash head . Both flashes at full power read F 11.5. Had the Sekonic and flashes on stands.
I do periodically test like this for me when I try to figure out what lights to take in shoots.
About overexposed, I don't care much because I do a calibration shoot when I get new flashes or cameras to set my 0 point and I always dial in my preferred compensation but I shoot 99% on manual. just one TTL exposure to give me a starting point sometime. I use a meter to set my lights.

That's a "lot" less than I would have thought or guessed (my wild-assed guess had been 0.5 EV).

The user interface on the V1 is infuriatingly-bad. Changing flash intensity during a high-energy portrait session is unnecessarily frustrating. The thumb wheel is junk, and susceptible to dust, dirt and water intrusion. If the flash doesn't "hear" you touch left on the thumb wheel first, trying to change intensity will change modes, forcing you to dick with the controls for several more seconds just to get back to where you were. Displaying intensity as a fraction of a fraction is stupid.

Godox V1 one has the longer battery life . I guess the Bluetooth triggering system Profoto use is depleting the battery faster . But both flashes have plenty of juice and recycling is not noticeable different . Having both i compare them all the time . The look you get with bare flash is a little different and i might like the Profoto look more but when you use modifiers the difference is very minimal. And you can get 4 V1 for the price of one A10. Booth flashes are very good .

You should check camera settings and the flash settings . But if you tell me more how you use the flash maybe i can help you out
You said it happens with 2 different flashes and i am inclined to say there are some settings in your camera commanding the flash to not fire.

All of these videos are almost clones of one another trying to justify Godox as an alternative. Godox is a cheap knockoff. YES! Believe it or not Chinese companies take intellectual property and mass produce those products cheaper cutting corners where ever and whenever possible. Seriously, the color shift in my Godox V1s (plural) is tremendous. Same with AD200 and Godox 360. I spend more time cleaning up these ugly color shifts and inconsistent pops of light than actually taking pictures. Profoto i just set click and deliver. He's actually showing you examples from both brands, yet you are here claiming Godox has ugly color shifts as if we are blind.
Godox, Profoto, Nikon, Canon etc did not INVENT the speedlight or studio light, some other old brand made it first, it worked, then everyone else made theirs (and the price comes down). Its the way it works in the REAL world, reasons why Electric cars aren't made by just one company, or Camera's, tv's, phones, washing machine, blender, editing apps etc. Are you saying you would never ever buy any other electric car bcus they are all TESLA KNOCKOFF'?
I know MOST Americans HATE the chinese a lot, but if am to go by your LOGIC, then your American brand WESTCOTT is also a cheap KNOCKOFF of GODOX in case it never crossed your mind.

I purposely use these lights on two of my pro camera bodies during a ceremony and the work that i created for myself using GODOX was significant. Simply put, Profoto is absolutely amazing and GODOX is a light that I will use if I dont have another option. @@jrobinson3665 If there's a reason Profoto costs as much as they cost, then pls tell us why their trigger cost about 7-8 times the price of Godox trigger when clearly godox trigger does better. Or why their soft box cost so much more than bowens, when they do exactly the same thing. Godox even designed the SAME trigger for Broncolor, yet Broncolor also charges more than Godox 🤣.
EVERY company COPY others. Godox copy Profoto's A1 round head and Profoto copied Godox AD100, its how everything we use today works.
I have seen videos here on youtube and facebook groups of profoto owners that experience some colour shift or faulty lights, does that mean profoto lights are bad? NO. It just mean they got the bad batch (just like Godox).
Am a published pro photographer that still uses profoto or broncolor depending on what studio am hiring or where am hiring my lights from when i travel. I really do not care which brand i use as they all work well in this day and age. For my business and everyday work i invested in godox as it has EVERYTHING i need it to do for me (reliability, ease of use, briliant light quality, eco system etc), anything else is just based on FEATURES thats needed for ones type of photography style.
One of the last studios i hired (few weeks ago) i had to take my Godox lights with me as the studio owner had ONLY 3 Broncolor lights (not enough for my concept). He was blown away by the ease of use and quality of the godox light especially how good the trigger was.
Not in a million years would i invest in Profoto or Broncolor just bcus some well known old school professional photographers uses those brand. The only reason most old school professional photographers use profoto is bcus thats what they invested in years ago and are use to, so no need to change (why fix what isn't broken).
In 15 yrs, not one client have ever insisted on me using a certain brand of light (they give me a brief and we execute it 100% with whatever brand we want to use).

The color on the speedlights is different from each camera brand in my opinion. I have Fuji and Canon systems and with Canon i can see some magenta tint with Profoto and green with Godox but i dont see much of the tints when using the Fuji system. Also I use the speedlights at lower power setting mist of the time and i think are more color consistent when
Are above 1/4 power . I prefer the godox when i shoot outdoors and is more greenery involved in the image or is late afternoon, for bright , high contrast , or diffused shade or urban setting i use Profoto. I don’t have a scientifically explanation its just how i like it. Personally i don’t see a good reason to choose a system over the other. And if course if you use a light modifier like a soft box that might shift colors a bit too. Also i have some color inconsistencies between the lights from the same brand . I have the A2 and and its warmer than the Ax and the same with Godox Explore 100 is greener than the V1 but both systems are only marginally noticeable . Its something specific you want ti know about this ? Let me know and i will try ti help. I have both systems and want to keep both systems and i am not influenced to take a side on these brands .
