Why does Williamsburg matter to American history?

I have been to Colonial Wmsburg 2 times. And each time I learn something new and I am fascinated by the everyday lives of early Americans both free and ensalved. As a descendant of bothe enslaved and free people of color I am so supportive of loving history places like this to allow all stories to be heard even if those stories. Make us uncomfortable today. From that discomfort comes understanding. Understanding begets empathy and leads to cooperation and belonging. Thank you

I grew up in the 90s going to Williamsburg with my family almost every summer. I have 2 young boys now and can’t wait to make Williamsburg a tradition for them as well. It’ll always have a huge place in my heart.

My 6th great grandfather was captured by Lord Cornwallis’s troops in S. C. where he served in the militia. He was released during a prisoner exchange at Yorktown.
