Thank you for your clear explanation of menopause/thyroid relationship. I entered menopause at age 50 and discussed with my GYN at that time if I would be a candidate for estrogen therapy, but she told me no as my sister had breast cancer. It would not be wise to do HRT. Now at age 56 I have been experiencing hoarse voice and extremely coarse hair, which got me thinking about estrogen again, but in my research regarding my symptoms, I started to wonder if I might be experiencing hypothyroidism. I will definitely be contacting my GYN and my PCP to discuss my situation and your video has given me a better understanding of what could be going on. Many thanks and I will definitely be subscribing to your channel. Very informative and helpful. Thank you!!!
Excellent video! Best explanation in my 12 years of post thyroid papillary carcinoma complete thyroidectomy & now menopausal at age 50. I need you as my provider!
I wish I'd known this 10-15 years ago. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and developed a goiter at 45. No one mentioned anything about a correlation with menopause. When at 55 I asked a female gynecologist if having Hashimotos would make any difference with menopause, she said no, absolutely not. I was on birth control until I was 56, and then put on Provarin as soon as I stopped, which sent me into a tailspin. Two years later I am still trying to figure out relief for symptoms. Thank you for speaking about this and sharing your expertise!
Thank you Dr. Gersh for explaining exactly what I went through and no doctor could explain to me. I experienced so many challenges with my thyroid up/down...sweats to freezing. Rapid weight gain/loss all around the time I was menopausal. When I started using estrogen creams (80 percent estriol 20 estrodial) symptoms got better. But I have to get on higher estrodial. I basically self medicated because I got no help from my doctor or the thyroid specialist who immediately said he wanted to take biopsy of my thyroid without even looking at me. If only every doctor was like you! 😊
Thank you so much! Auto immune numbers were low yet were there. I did no other testing but I’m beginning to think it’s thyroid! I really love your approach. Wish you were local for me!
Thank you so much! I had noticed that my TSH has gone up in the last two years (still within "normal" range for my age, but no longer optimal) and had wondered if/how it related to perimenopause. This is the best information I've found on the topic so far!
This is so informative!! I have been on thyroid replacement medication for the last 30 years. I am 59 and going through the motion of finally getting on HRT. My gyno doctor is one of the few here in KC that prescribes HRT, but I asked him if I need to worry about HRT affecting my thyroid function in any way and he said there is no correlation. I just wonder if I need my thyroid levels checked more often while starting HRT. Also when you say that the Estradiol levels are really high this will suppress the thyroid, do you mean that it could cause hypothyroidism ( high TSH) or did you mean it will suppress the T4? Thanks!
I'm confused -- Dr. Gersh said women over 60 shouldn't take desiccated Thyroid because the T3 levels could be too high and possibly cause Afib. I thought I heard her say they should take a Bioidentical form of T4 by itself. I just talked to a compounding pharmacist, and he said there is NO Bioidentical T4 by itself. It would have to be synthetic.
Dang… you lost me at “no T3 after 60…” I’m not giving up my T3. Weight bearing exercise builds bone and muscle. I take a combo of T4 and T3. I’ve been a poor converter for years… but I’ve never had a doctor check for anything and every time I’ve asked they’ve said- “Why.. it won’t matter?” I’ve had to advocate for myself for over 12 years and am finally feeling better. I can’t imagine not having adequate T3 ….
Homeopathic medicine and an osteopath. VitD3 and VitK2 daily. Women shouldn't be unwell or suffering unnecessary. Its bizarre how women are so deficient compared to men. Makes no sense to me.
Thank you for this information. A woman who is taking levothyroxine as a replacement therefore must increase they're dose to use estrogen only therapy. Will TSH level in labs be lower or will it be the same as the dose used to keep thyroid function stable when estrogen is used?
Can we heal our thyroid if we can heal our leaky gut? Also, are there any symptoms to tell if we are overdosed on Estradiol? I'm perimenopausal and on .05 transdermal Estradiol patch. My TSH jumped from 2.3 to 4.3 in the past year. My doctor doesn't want to do anything because I'm "still in the normal range". Thank you! This was a very informative video!
what about someone who has no thyroid? I had surgery back on March since that my period is been out control, spotting all the time snd this month i have a very long very period. My TSH is kind low and my endocrinologist will not increase or decrease my levothyroxine? So frustrating 😡😡😞😡
I just don’t understand why any of my drs understand this, my pcp literally looked at me like I was crazy and said “wow you must really be under some stress, have you ever thought about ketamine therapy” like it’s my ptsd acting up again but no. I’ve been on psych meds for a long time now and my mental health should be fine and was fine until a few months ago. I turned 45 in May and had a hysterectomy at 22. PCP only checked my TSH and it was fine but she never checked T3 or T4 and I honestly believe that I do have Hashimoto’s especially bc of the sensitivity to the cold which was so prevalent I literally been wearing sweats all summer and I live in Tucson Az 🌵 I’m usually hot hot hot but after I went through my symptoms with my psych Dr it was actually him who brought it up. I swear my psych Dr is smarter and more understanding than my pcp. I’ve been with both of these drs since I got clean and sober 6yrs ago and I swear my psych Dr has always been the best!! Thank you for this info 🙏🏼 my pcp should really get educated.
My TPO antibodies are very high. (All other thyroid labs are registering normal)I’ve dropped the antibodies to just over 800. I’m on the lowest dose of estradiol and on progesterone. Could all this be causing my antibodies to be high
My tests for thyroid came back negative but then the doctor said my estradiol is very low "which means I'm menopausal" but my thyroid is fine yet I'm loosing my voice for no reason I feel a Lump at the bottom of my throat and all the other crazy symptomts
Endocrinology is complicated. What is stupid is that endocrinologists also don't understand menopause so they tell you your estrogen is unrelated to your thyroid, which is nonsense. I had a thyroidectomy and i am in menopause. On hrt, I need more levothyroxine. One thing: there are blood levels and then there is receptor sensitivity. Higher blood levels doesn't mean you will feel better. Being metabolically overall healthier will help with receptors. You may not need as much if you are metabolically healthier, that is my experience.
I’m staying away from synthetic .. I’m trying to get away from the horrors I’m taking. I just had my dexa scan.. it’s good. What do you say is optimum estradiol.
Your GP knows nothing...they are taught nothing about the endocrine system. Or womens health in general. I make my own mind up and listen to my body. The GP doesn't care . .
Antibiotic thyroid medicine from Dr emuakhe on UA-cam from Africa vanished my thyroid case and haven't seen any reoccurrence to date, you're truly an epitome of good treatment..............
Oestrogen receptors on the thyroid, and thyroid receptors on the ovaries. I'm learning new things all the time. Thank you so much 💛

Did your goiter cause your voice to be mangled? Change? Sound ruined..? That’s what I’m going through right now.. finally I think made the correlation

Get off that stuff. You need to be on Estradiol transdermal cream/patches and Progesterone.
This is so much good information as I'm on thyroid meds and HRT. Thank you !

Doesn't mean anything. It essentially means you are running out of crucial hormones.
What are the optimal levels of Free T4 and Free T3? She doesn't mention these in this video.

@@jessicahitchens6926 Thanks for your reply! Yes, I’ve been taking D3 and K2 since I was diagnosed 13 years ago. 🩷☺️
It’s actually lack of progesterone and excess oestrogen or oestrogen dominance that tend to cause Hashimoto’s. Just saying…

Dr does taking estradiol help with decline of thyroidism or slow it down?
Love ❤️ your videos. Would some iodine daily help??
I wish she would have a separate video for just women post menopause and for women without a uterus on this subject.
Yessss.

I also take 60mg of armour thyroid too

The reason you have that is because you are severely deficient in Estrogen and Progesterone. And probably minerally deficient too.
Why doesn’t your pcp know this when you get a yearly physical? I’m 67. My hormone doctor has me on 20 mg of compounded Lyrothyronine.

at least a level of 50. 50-100 is considered optimal
@@jennysiepka9900if that's what you want.. I don't want anything synthetic.
