Stress Incontinence: why you might pee when you cough, and what to do about it | Felice Gersh, MD
Переглядів 1,2 тис.День тому
Stress Incontinence (aka peeing when you cough) affects women at epidemic proportions. Among younger, reproductive aged women, rates are between 10% and 15%, and these rates climb dramatically as women go through menopause. By age 65, well over half of women are affected by stress incontinence. Stress incontinence is a term that describes any involuntary urine leakage that occurs during physica...
HRT vs MHT: why hormone replacement therapy wins over menopausal hormone therapy | Felice Gersh, MD
Переглядів 1,9 тис.21 день тому
The mainstream medical world is switching from the phrase "Hormone Replacement Therapy" (HRT) to "Menopausal Hormone Therapy" (MHT). This is not just semantics. It is a dramatic shift in the way healthcare providers approach hormones for women in menopause. And this matters. What is the goal here? MHT is an all encompassing term and technically, HRT is a form of MHT. In practice, MHT almost alw...
HRT vs birth control pills: hormonal contraception is NOT the same as HRT | Felice Gersh, MD
Переглядів 1,1 тис.28 днів тому
HRT is not low dose birth control for women in menopause. So many women tell me they won't try hormone replacement therapy (HRT) because they had bad experiences with hormonal birth control. HRT and birth control are different pharmaceuticals. They are different chemicals with extremely different effects on the body. If you didn't like how birth control made you feel, don't let that keep you aw...

Heart palpitations in the perimenopause & menopause years | Felice Gersh, MD
Переглядів 2,2 тис.Місяць тому
Heart palpitations are a common but under-discussed symptom of perimenopause and menopause. You may feel like your heart is racing, fluttering, or even skipping a beat. Hormones play a critical role in the maintenance of the cardiovascular system, the ability of the heart to create and use energy, and the autonomic nervous system, which controls heart beat. In this talk, I cover: * What are hea...

Do you see patients over Zoom? A lot of us live outside your state.
Shame on those doctors for harming women like this. Thank you for your excellent information. Cannot rely on most doctors to know what is best for the health of a woman. It is a fight to get to choose what we want. I guess this is nothing new. Just thought it would be better by now.
What’s the solution
Just be patient the menopause process doesn’t occur overnight so addressing the hormonal imbalance won’t resolve overnight either. You and your physician may need to adjust doses as you go
So how do you do the cyclic HRT? Can someone explain pls? Thanks
But what if we had a bilateral oophorectomy, no ovaries but still have uterus?
What about surgical menopause? Bilateral oophorectomy here
What about surgical menopause? On patch estrodot and utrogestan and T cream
Is it ok to take 200mg daily? I can’t sleep without it and it also helps my brain activity. Thanks
I live in Colorado. Do you have a list of doctors who have taken your course and who prescribe hormones this way?
On estradiol patch..take progesterone orally...had a complete hysterectomy years ago. I dont have any ovaries. Low limbido..trying to figure it out.
Once you can feel a palpable lump in your breast, the tumor is already fairly large and the cancer may have spread to other parts of your body. If you are willing to take that risk over early-stage detection with a mammogram, so be it!
A mammogram found my breast cancer at 1.38 mm. No chemo or radiation needed. Thank you, mammogram! 💕
My estrogen is high on my period in peri. Terrible
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge so generously Dr Gersch. I’ve been researching DHEA for perimenopause so this was incredibly helpful. DHEA isn’t available in UK and Canada :(
When I was 33 years old, I had my normal monthly period…and then I didn’t. Never had another one. Never had any “symptoms”, nothing. It was as if I’d never had a period. I had 3 children, each 5 years apart (by choice), have not had a hysterectomy, UTI’s or any female complaints. People meeting me for the first time think I’m in my 50’s, I’m 78. I’ve been thinking about HRT because I’d like to keep on keepin’ on as long as possible. I’m a widow of 6 years, been married since I was 18. I’m enjoying my life alone. Don’t know how to go about asking a Doctor about HRT. I haven’t seen a doctor since my last pregnancy in 1975. How do I do this?
Thanks so much dr Gersh. Your explanation is down to earth, highly informative and easier to understand. So grateful!
You are an amazing clinician!!
So, despite my physician’s best effort today I found that testosterone for women was taken off the list by FDA and it’s a ‘controlled substance’ local pharmacies will not carry… There was actually a patch that was banned too! So, apparently US women are too wild and need to be intentionally subdued? If you’re teen who on a whim decides to change sex they will be given megadoses of hormones no questions asked…but a mature woman in distress? So, what options do we have: either super expensive pellets given by a private company ( more $$$ than I can make 😅) or, perhaps a cream from a compounding pharmacy paid out our my pocket. Will find out tomorrow….to be continued….its hilarious 🤪
What about a 69 yo woman who os fit and healthy , who has never been on HRT,and never had kids but has dense breasts? Is that normal to still be having dense many years after menopause who eats healthy, exercises and is fit?
You are wonderful Felice! (beautiful name by the way) Thank you for helping all us women to understand our bodies and have a better quality of life! God Bless you.👏🤗👏
I had dinner with an nih breast cancer mammogram researcher who told me all women should have mmammograms at age 40. I was about 42 at the time and in Canada it was not recommended until 50 yrs. After researching the topic i realized mammograms weren’t for me. I’m 72 and have never had one. My breasts are radiation free and biopsy free. I have a friend who was told she had an untreatable breast cancer by a leading cancer hospital in canada. Later she was told it was nothing - a mistake. Don’t under estimate the damage of a false positive!
You’re talking about menstrual but it’s about menopause??? Menopause is no menstrual cycle 🔁 I’m confused 😢
Maybe if we “identify” as a man or grow a scrotum, we might matter!!!
Hello do you order and work wit Dutch test no results for recommendations for menopause ? Also are you avail for tele- health if I live in illinois? THank YOU
If you're not supposed to have these hormones as you age, why would you supplement them, just accept that you're getting older and live with it!
Human hormones are carcinogens go to I have two cousins that never smoked, but ended up with breast cancer and nobody will tell you that broccoli contains nicotine.
😍 thank you!!!!
❤
I’ve recently found your videos and I’m so grateful. I’m certain that I am under dosed on estradiol. I can use this information to advocate for myself. Thanks!
Spoke to a male doctor who said no one will give you HRT and it's dangerous. I said thank you for the man splaining and called OBGYN and asked for a female. Spoke to a female NP and my estradiol patch and progesterone are on the way. She also explained to me that many people are woefully uneducated and that a major study was done for 20 years and debunked a lot of the anti HRT myths and that it is in fact safe and necessary for women.
What about for these people who are on cyclical HRT BUT no bleeding? Does this mean the progesterone is not enough?
Please, please, please rally together again in discussion and SOLUTIONS for us women that are progesterone intolerant 😢. What are our options during perimenopause and HRT. Our own progesterone is wicked enough all the years of menstruation & PMDD the last half of our cycle, now we suffer the loss of estradiol in perimenopause and have to suffer a mandatory additional dose of prometrium induced dark cloud of anxiety , rage, intrusive thoughts, depression, irritability muscle/joint pain, and despair. But the first two weeks of that month are so much better with the estrodial. What do we do? 😢
I think louise has mentioned in another video thar if you find it hard to tolerate progesterone orally you can take it (off licence) vaginaly to protect the womb lining from building up. I’d imagine it’s safe to do this all the time or cycle 2 weeks on/off however if that’s also not an option you could try the marina coil it has a different type of progesterone to protect the uterus. It’s in place for 5 years and it’s a much smaller dose and can be used as your birth control while in peri but also fine to use in menopause. 😊
Got it, thank you 💛This info will be so helpful to remember the next time I have to defend (yet again) my need to take HRT. I'm very interested in what Estrone is for and how it functions. What happens to all our Estrone once we're on exogenous Estradiol - how do these interact? 😊xx
I take 10mg of DHEA daily…72 year old woman…do not take any medications!! feel great
Thank you so much for all your information. I've never been on HRT after total HX 23 years ago. I'm 68 and going for it!
Thank you so much for your information. Could you do a video on adenomyosis? Is it really similar to ebdometriosis? Would you think that women with ADenomyosis should avoid any form of erstrogen therapy in perimenopause when periods are insufferably heavy?
Even 2.5 mg of DHEA makes me very hungry and keeps me up at night. Why would this be?
What if a young women has no libido, can it be low testosterone even if it doesn’t show very low on a lab test?
What if you had a thyroidectomy and hysterectomy?
Can we heal our thyroid if we can heal our leaky gut? Also, are there any symptoms to tell if we are overdosed on Estradiol? I'm perimenopausal and on .05 transdermal Estradiol patch. My TSH jumped from 2.3 to 4.3 in the past year. My doctor doesn't want to do anything because I'm "still in the normal range". Thank you! This was a very informative video!
My TSH levels shot up 2 points to borderline hypothyroidism since being on HRT. Is there a correlation?
Fantastic information, thank you 💛 You explain everything so well, with enough detail that I understand what's going on physically and why. I still get migraines at 56, had one yesterday in fact, (from fatigue). Taking daily propranolol and triptans if that fails. I'll look into the vagus nerve stimulators, and the peptides. Wish I'd known so much more 30 years ago 😊xx
Thank you dr Gersh, I discovered you because of the podcast you did with Louise Newson. You explain everything so well, I’m so glad I found you. ❤
I got my first menstrual period at 13 and my last period at 58. I suffered with menstrual migraines for 45 years. I only had an aura once in all that time, but the migraines were debilitating. Nothing helped, including triptans. I finally ceased to have migraines when my menstrual cycles stopped, after menopause.
Same! It’s been one is the joys of menopause.
Wow, this is the best explanation and summary of how to deal with hormonal migraines. I have been suffering for 10 years and finally figured it out how to minimize the duration and the severity of hormonal migraines . I’m doing almost all that Dr Gersh is recommending and I have found a great relief. Please, follow the wise advice of this fantastic doctor who really knows what she’s talking about.!
I think estradiol can have a negative impact if your dose is to low, It’s a game of trial and error finding the sweet spot however our body will talk to us when we are on the correct amount if we have a monthly bleed after introducing the progesterone two weeks after starting the oestrogen to create the ebb and flow of a normal cycle then your most likely on a good dose. If you don’t have a womb then I’d imagine you just increase the dose of oestrogen under doctor supervision until any negative side effects disappear.
I agree with you about the dosage. I didn’t feel good until my estradiol and testosterone were balanced. I switched from labial cream to estradiol patch and felt the difference in a week!
I understood. But which are the two sets os differences related hormones?! The dosages, de porpotions, etc. This Dic.😅
Dosages totally different. Mht is so damned low, if you need more to feel good you would end up wearing multiple patches etc. They dose you low. I feel like he'll on that. So I am on birth control patches and feel normal.
This is so helpful, I stopped taking HRT Because I didn’t understand why I had to take the same dose every day because that isn’t how our bodies work prior to menopause and my body reacted in a negative way so I’m going to try 2 weeks on 2 weeks off the progesterone. Thank you so much 😊 🙏💐
I thought my kidneys were aching but my dr told me it’s my adrenals & both of my functional drs told me that I am in fatigue. To stop anything in my life that causes stress that can be eliminated. I am working on mindfulness so that my body doesn’t continue to break down.
