I take estrogen, 0.05 patch and cyclic 100 mg. progesterone. My sister won't take hormones. We are in our sixties. She has not gained weight or had hair loss issues, but I have. As soon as I started taking hormones 4 yrs ago, I started gaining weight. I exercise daily and she doesn't. It's very frustrating and makes me feel like I want to go off of HRT. I hear all the science, but I see what I see.
My guess is maybe it’s not enough estrogen. Do you know what your level is? It should be close to 100 or more. The .05 patch of estradiol is still very low.
@@nishachauhan2343 I was 59 when I went into menopause and I waited about two years to start HRT. So it was post menopause. I experienced hot flashes and sleepless nights along with other symptoms that led me to try HRT. It takes care of a lot of symptoms, but weight gain comes along with it.
I've had the same experience. I am currently off hormones but, for various reasons, considering trying again; I am very hesitant. I am listening to this doc and a few others that are pro hormone replacement plus those against (Elizabeth Bright); not sure what to do at this point.
@@nishachauhan2343 Went into menopause at 59 closer to 60, waited to take hormones for a couple of yrs. Couldn't sleep and having hot flashes so I asked my Gyno if I could try HRT. It took care of the symptoms, but I also gained weight. So bloated.
I'm 57 1/2 still perimenopausal not on HRT YET but will be soon. If you're gaining weight, visceral fat, here's what will reverse it QUICKLY!! Stop eating all processed foods. Eliminate anything with wheat and added sugar. Eat 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. Eat healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts and seeds. Weight train 4 or 5 days a week with 1/2 hour to 45 minutes of cardio. When I say weight train I mean lift as heavy as you possibly can (without injury) and try to increase the weight as you get stronger. There are many videos on UA-cam about how to build muscle. Muscle knows no age. You will see huge changes in your body within a few weeks if you stick to it. If you change your diet as I suggested, your cravings will go away. I've done this myself and it works. I now have a lean body with lots of beautiful feminine muscle and my hourglass figure back. Understand that a woman cannot get big like a man if she lifts heavy weight unless she's taking male hormones to do so. You only see that in women professional body builders. Trust me and start today. You'll be so happy that you did!
I am keto carnivore for over 5 yrs. I'm 65 yrs old and have no visceral fat. A reasonable amount of subcutaneous fat is very healthy for women. Seeds and nuts are high in oxalic acid (info: Sally K Norton) plus extremely high in omega 6 which is already plentiful in modern human diet. I feel my best avoiding all plant foods.
I ate all the "healthy fats" and "grass-fed beef" and developed insulin resistance. Now, I eat a WFPB, very low-fat diet and even my eyesight is improving. There is no one size fits all dietl. I am so tired of seeing that. You must find the diet that works for you.
@@bluejean-1968Everything she said is 100% valid, even if it doesn’t apply to you. Interesting you blame your IR on meat and healthy fats, since those two things aren’t any lists for IR causes. How did you tie the two together?
For weight training are just dumbells ok? And like arms three times a week and legs ( squats lunges etc) three times a week? Just trying to figure out a simple program that i will stick to since i find weight training excruciatingly boring haha but have been doing it because i know i need to.
I was on bio identical micronized oral progesterone and 2 different doses of estradiol patches - had to go to the lower from 0.375 of 0.25 as bloating, breast tenderness, uncontrollable appetite and weight gain indicated the previous dose was too high. I continued gaining weight and added anxiety to the list of “benefits” from HRT. After almost 6 months I quit and my weight returned to normal within 3 weeks and my mood and appetite stabilized. HRT is not for me.
This has exactly happened to me. I cycled off three times and the weight fell off within 2 weeks. Same dosage. I was never able to build myself up to .5mg.
The Progesterone caused this most likely. Not estrogen. Also, if you were on synthetic fake hormones, yes you will experience alot of symptoms. There are various methods like patch, troche, gels, creams & even inserted vaginally.
You have THE best HRT and hormone/perimenopause information on the internet. Period. I am on HRT since a year, still perimenopausal at 55, gained belly (and other but notably belly) weight when the transition started at 53, suffered for a year, went on HRT at 54 and whereas not all the belly fat has gone I feel (and look) much better - I cut out sugar and grains from my diet and lost a fair bit of the excess weight I gained when the perimenopause started, went down a dress size back to my ‘normal’ range. I could not imagine being without HRT now, it has made a huge difference to the quality of life and my well being. I am on oestrogel, 3 pumps, utrogestan vaginally as I get side effects, and testogel. My doc suggested continuous progesterone which I though was not a good idea as I still have regular periods - after I listened to your videos I now know its not a good idea..!
@@jessicahitchens6926 Im so glad you have the perfect insight into my body, especially as we’ve never met…but sure, I’m sure the hormones started waning before any physical symptoms started
I am 51 was on .50 of estradiol just recently had an increase to .75 and I can really feel the difference! It’s like I’m able to focus and get tasks done. I’m not as focused on eating and snacking. I’m hoping to shed this 30lbs I’ve gained from grief and depression. I sure hope this increase in dosage continues the mental health boost I’ve received.😊
Would love to know how it goes. I was put on .25 for years and nothing good ever came from it. Asked my naturopath to up it recently to .5 and feeling much better. I think I need to go to .75 to really knock out all of this craziness in my body. For many of you ladies not sure if the age of your menopause makes a difference. When I first started at 52 I had a really hard time taking estrogen. So I took Progesterone and Testosterone. Now I can’t take testosterone, but my body is now ready for estrogen. I am now 57.
Fantastic info! Just started Estriol patches, along with progesterone pills at night, and am feeling so much better! Glad I made the choice to do the patches!
Your explanations are so clear! I am newly on cyclic (physiologic) at age 66 rather than static bhrt and I so appreciate your videos!! My estrogen blood test on day 12 was 185. I feel great and am putting on some great muscle, but the estradiol has definitely given me some hips and a little belly. I am a thin , very active person. Could it be too much estradiol causing this? I am one of those weird people who got thinner and thinner as perimenopause and menopause arrived and would be happy to have some extra weight if it were not at the belly and hips! (or more accurately, love handles)!!!!!
I hear you. I have piled on like ten pounds since I started HRT BUT I look so much better - my skin, my face volume- even my gum according to my dentist!!!
What doctor are you working with that's prescribing the cycling of your hormones and I've been working with somebody but they're not easy to work with trying to find a new practitioner that understands how to do this are you on the Wiley protocol or something else
@@Aki-wq6xh Ack, reading about all these women gaining weight on HRT is helpful, and scary. I just started, but may discontinue. Thanks for sharing that you gained weight.
Be sure not to use a 20% concentrate progesterone cream. The body can only absorb at 3% or 5%. If you use a cream that is too concentrated, you won't absorb it and you will get estrogen dominant.
My science brain LOVES her detailed explanations since it adds to what my hormone doctor has educated me these past 9 years. My inquisitive nature paired with BHRT has enabled me to feel wonderful during my different phases…Perimenopause, Menopause, and Post Menopause. Now 57 and post menopause, still feeling wonderful. ❤ Thank you Dr. for your detailed explanations. ❤
THANK YOU!! 61 post menopausal. After 20 years of levothyroxine and changes since peri-men, my Naturopath (not my Endo) is putting me on Estro patch and Progest tab!! Hashimoto's, constipation, auto immune (PBS & St.3CKD) and inflammation...it's ALL RELATED. I've been saying for months/years. I am hopeful for noticable improvement. I'm so glad to find your channel and valuable tutelage! 💟💟💟
I had a hysterectomy in my 30’s and only have one ovary. About 4 years ago I had no strength, energy was so low, and had lots of bone pain. I was put on biest and progesterone and np thyroid it is a low dose proactive (I do not have thyroid issues) which I was weary about taking honestly. I'm thankful I do have less bone pain and more energy too. I take lots of supplements (Vit A, D, E, K). However since that time I have gained weight and have been now dealing with severe duodenitis 😢🙏 I have lowered hrt to almost none and need my gut to heal as it is affecting my mouth and teeth too now sadly. I have been gluten-free and dairy-free for years and can not eat nuts. I'm just trying to make sense of all that I dealing with physically. I appreciate your information.
You are a very special person I wish I would have found someone like you years ago. I need to research to get a doctor that knows at least half of what you know about this subject. Thank you so so much!❤️😘❤️
Thank you for your advice. Just spoke with my provider about hopefully upping my dose of estrodial and making it a patch instead then making my progesterone low dose oral to where I will only take for two weeks a month and see what a difference that makes. Struggling through menopause gaining weight on oral estrodial and progesterone pills low dose during menopause
I just started Estradiol 1mg/Testosterone 6 mg troche. I have gained one pounder per week and it has gone all to my abdomen and I feel horribly bloated. I asked to switch to estradial and testosterone drops. And my NP is also starting Progesterone 50 mg daily. I am hoping this will help my weight gain and bloating. This video gives me hope because I was ready to give up. Thank you.
Dr Gersh, I can’t find any info of how much the optimal level of estradiol should be, how do we get there, how much the dosage should be. You never talk about the e2/ pr ratio, estrogen dominance or progesterone dominance and how to fix those issues. A lot of time the weight gain might be because of estrogen dominance. Please put the link in the description if you have a video about all of the above. Thank you!
I’m on a troche. Testosterone, estrodial, And dhea and progesterone at night. 7 weeks ago I went on Tirzepitide 2.5. Game changer. My whole attitude and life is 80% better. I’ve never had no food noise… Making great food choices… Very little side effects… Bothers me that you said I’m Wasting my money on the troche…💔
God bless you! A doctor that’s finally telling us the truth.. I’ve been taking the pellets and I always gain a few pounds and it levels out. I don’t like that part of it. The pellets do work and they make me feel amazing but I do not like the weight gain every 4 month.
What is the right dose???? I've been on low dose birth control and I have not gotten any relief . I've been having breast tenderness everyday for past two years my breast got really big ive been a 34 c 120 lbs for ever even after I had kids but in my kids I've worked out eaten healthy for years was in great shape flat stomache until my middle to late 40s that's when everything changed I ended up having a breast reduction last year it's been a whole year my breast grew back a little they are still sore everyday birth control is not working and I gain mostly in my mid area and breast
I have early menopause. Given my relatively young age (late 30s) is HRT with E2 + Real Progesterone still better than the pill? That’s my preference but some people think I need higher dose of hormones that’s in the pill 😢 I know you can’t give personal advice but may I hear your thoughts?😊
I'm not absolutely sure about this, but I feel like I heard somewhere that the hormones in birth control are not the body identical Estradiol and Micronized Progesterone.
My understanding is that they have to give you a higher dose of estradiol in the pill because of the first pass effect in the liver you only get a small amount of actual estradiol so that's why the higher dose in the pill pill. I think it's a load of crap if they're telling you that you need to take the estradiol pill form because you need higher dose. You can take more than one patch if a higher dose is wanted. But don't expect your doctor to say yes to that. I take as much as little as I need, though. I generally only need about .75 to 1 mg of the patch. I cut it as I need it.
As soon as I went on hrt in post menopause I gained weight. Within a few months of starting hrt my a1c went up to pre diabetic and my triglycerides went to over200! Before hrt my a1c was at 5 and my triglycerides were 80. Why is hrt doing this to me? Does it mean I need a lot more hormones? And why do some people not gain weight from hrt?
Doesn't work for you its probably converting into another sex hormone. Or triggering the Cortisol levels. I'd taper of them and start afresh. Bio identical creams research good supplements and adaptagens to take. Go to a good homeopath.
I think it is more dangerous not to take Hrt. I was slimmer during Hrt. Now I am post menopausal and I went and on a vaginally cream estrogen cause our bodies need it. In my 60 s I gained belly fat and some health issues cause the doctors refused to give any Hrt after a phoney testing. Take the hrt or you ll just shrivel up and die .
Im 54 and have been on estadiol .25 twice weekly and 100 mg daily of progesterone. I feel so much better especially my energy but ive gained 20 lbs since my periods stopped a year and a half ago. I havent changed activity and im eating less! Wondering if i should do cyclic progesterone?
@colleenwithers8893 Same for me. I tried the cyclic progesterone method, but you end up having a period. Whenever you bleed in menopause, you have to tell your dr. Your gyno. will want to check you for cancers. They do a hysterscope and a biopsy (painful) I've been thru this many many times. Always comes back negative. I'm tired of the whole thing. I tried the cyclic method because I can't tolerate progesterone so I thought using it for less time would be the answer. It makes me so very moody & bloated. Im off HRT now.
My problem is my medical providers, online services won't treat women over 60 and I'm 68. Using OTC products means I'm taking mostly E3 with a smidge of actual E2.
I heard about a company called DEFY in my menopause group. I called them and did a telehealth consult and have started hrt. Im 62. They will help you. Others would not due to my age. I think you should call them. They are very supportive and great service.
I started oral hrt at 40 for severe premenopausal symptoms. I had been suffering from the symptoms since age 36 but hadn't found a Dr who would take me seriously. One year later, I was in cardiac icu having suffered a bilateral pulmonary embolis from the hrt. Fast forward a couple of years and found a Dr who put me on bioidentical HRT. I seemed to be doing okay with the bhrt, no clots to date. However, when we moved to another state, it took a while to find a Dr who worked with bhrt. I found one who put me on compounded bhrt progesterone. I had already started putting on some weight. Since then, I have steadily gained weight, I have a voracious appetite with zero self control and no amount of exercise seems to help with weight loss. Very frustrating. They tried putting me on some estradiol but it caused breakthrough bleeding so they took me off it. I am at a complete loss. Now I'm wondering if I were to go off the bhrt for a month, how it would impact my weight. 🤔
I’ve recently found your videos and I’m so grateful. I’m certain that I am under dosed on estradiol. I can use this information to advocate for myself. Thanks!
18:5519:40 Constant PMS, that would be me😂 .05 estradiol patch and oral prometrium 300mg a night … don’t feel like doing shite, huge hurting breasts, weight gain, and joy of joys, chin full of hairs. My ultrasound showed thin lining, no problems, no more bleeding, but I’m not myself . I’m better on biohrt for sure, but will try to find a different way as Doc here says.
I'm almost 41 and was told I'm NOT old enough for HRT and that it would make my period worse. Do I switch again? She did start me on testosterone pellets, my sex drive is coming back. I have been experiencing perimenopause symptoms since 36. I'm on my 3rd obgyn in 3 years. I just switched OB/GYN. Last one told me this is the new normal..... 😢 so frustrating.
@@caseyisabell2911 never accept the new normal answer! I’ve been through four gyns and finally was given hormones. Weren’t too young, I was told to wait till 51, offered Effexor, Xanax, Wellbutrin within minutes of doc appt but refused hormones. Keep on searching for a provider that listens to you
Get off the pellets.. you need Progesterone cream with some Estradiol/Estriol Transdermal. High quality supplements daily. Maca powder... You are very young but that doesn't mean you don't trear yourself. Because you will suffer unnecessarily as you age due to less protection. Sounds like ovary insufficiency. So many women of our age are experiencing it nowadays. We are being poisoned by all the man made chemicals.
Get on high doses of Magnesium Glycinate and Malatate at night. Adaptagen powders daily in a smoothie or drink. Vit B complex 2×daily. Needs to have the Prydoxine = VitB6. Omega 3 huge amounts until the inflammation reduces. Flaxseed oil. Organic cider vinegar. We are all the early 40s crowd. I see women at 57 complaining 🙄
When I went for my hormone testing I she listen she started me on a low dose of 5mg of estradiol patch and 5mg of the estradiol cream and the 200 mg of pogestrone that's because I did not have a papsmear done In the united states I had it done in Pakistan...but that is the reason why she gave me the lowest dose then she made an appointment to see me again in three months she said she did not want me to have utirne cancer cervical cancer...she did call me and gave me the blood resulst she said my estrogen and pegstrone were at normal range but I had a slightly higher testosterone I want to know why I have it slightly high ?

Get insulin under control with a ver low carb diet; carnivore is the best and it is simple. Follow the following doctors: Ken Berry, Ben Bikman, Zoe Harcombe, Georgia Ede, Rob Cywes.
That is a really high dose to start with for estradiol. I suggest you begin HRT at a lower dose, like 0.0375 or 0.05 estradiol patches and cycle 100mg of progesterone for 7-12 days a month. Give your body some time to adjust to the new surge of estradiol to limit any side effects. Then about 3 months later up the estradiol dose if needed. Make any changes one at a time. That way you will know which component of your HRT is causing reactive symptoms. Take it slow and gradual, dont shock your body suddenly if you haven’t had hormones before. Too much too fast can put on weight.
I'm on estrogen patch, 0.05 and 200mg progesterone. My doctor to me to take it everyday because if not I would get a menses. I'm 47 in perimenopause. Does this seem correct? Now I'm questioning, since you mentioned we should cycle. Forgot to I have gained about 10 lbs and have lots of inflammation. Should I look into taking a GLP-1? Any advice out there.
I have a question regarding a 53-year-old woman who is experiencing spotting /light bleeding during her "period" cycle. Would a 12-day cycle of 0.01 mg estradiol and 200 mg progesterone be more effective than a 30-day cycle in managing this issue?
I gained all my weight in perimenopause at the age of 50. I put on 30 pounds quickly. Most of it around my waist. I was not on any hormones until I turned 58. I’m 60 now and am on the highest patch of 0.1. My progesterone which is daily is 200 mgs. My estradiol level is 96. My progesterone is 5.5, but I recently went up to 200 mgs. so I’ll be tested again. Last June I found out my visceral fat was 2.4 pounds. It would be nice to know how to regulate them both so I can begin to finally lose the weight I gained in perimenopause.
If you had an ablation done on the uterus and you're doing the cycle of hormones I haven't gotten a period even though I'm doing the cycle is that normal
That sounds like to me that the ablation is working. my understanding is that they get rid of all of the part of the lining that is capable of growing. So if you're taking enough progesterone and for a long enough period of time and you're not seeing any bleeding it's probably a good thing, but I would do it for several cycles over several months just to be sure.
Thank you so much for making this videos. You state you need a level of over 50, 100 or 150 is ok too. Blood level of what?? Estradiol, luteinizing hormone, what?
That would explain why I still have estrogen-deficiency symptoms- yet have gained a huge fat belly & legs! I was going to tell the hormone dr. to LOWER estrogen because of the weight gain. Now I will tell her I need estradiol- and transdermal not troche.
I am using the Dottie patch.05 and Progesterone 100 MG but I don't really get sleep, my hair still falls out, I haven't lost weight probably gained a few pounds. How much more should I go up to be able to get a good night's sleep? Do I need to up my estrogen or up my progesterone to 200 mg. That's what I don't know the doctor was hesitant to even give me the patch and so she probably figured when I said .05 she's like okay but I really haven't noticed it doing anything
One of side effects for estrodiol patch is hair loss. You can read the insert that comes with prescription. As for sleep, try to take magnesium glycerin.
I’m confused. Are you saying not to take the pill form of Estradiol? I take estradiol-norethadine and still experience spotting and mood swings months later after I started. What do I do?
From my Understanding yes., Apparently oral estradiol is not good to take. 😢Only Patches.. and / OR lotions not everyone can use patches.. though . 😮 Maybe vaginal Pessaries can Be used.. ! This Doctor is Not a Conventional Doctor, But a Qualified Dr. Who is intergrated which I prefer 🎉
I started cyclical progesterone by being off of it for 14 days then back on to see if it helps with the weight I gained on hrt. I do all the things with diet, lifting heavy , walking 10k etc and have gone up a pant size 😮and I’m only 5 ft tall and 59. Also starting testosterone to see if that helps. I’ve been off of progesterone for a week and I actually feel better off of it. My Dutch test said I was really low on estrogen even tho I’m on .75. My progesterone was higher than my naturopath thought it would be. So it makes sense what Dr Gersh says about weight gain being on progesterone daily.
I have another concern. I’m hoping someone can answer. I decided to take progesterone full-time because I didn’t want a period and I feel like it messed with my anxiety when I stopped taking it. Well, now I seem to be getting a period every two weeks and I’m taking progesterone every day along with my estrogen patch. I’m wondering if this is OK and healthy or should I be concerned and go to the doctor? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It’s very strange. I haven’t had a period and a long time being in menopause so it’s weird.
Can you please clearly give optimal dose and when to take for both estradiol and progesterone?? I take the profesterone daily but you say this is incorrect?
My takeaway was that she suggests a daily dose estradiol the entire month but only take prog for half the month.... then the last 2 weeks shed the lining...?
@@jennysiepka9900 that is my take as well. In fact, I even heard her say that some women only wanna bleed for five days and my guess is that the progesterone needs to go up in dose since it's taken for a shorter period of time as she has said something along those lines.
Im confused about the progesterone part. I was told that i had to take progesterone usp 100 mg orally if i was on estradiol to prevent uterine cancer. Dr. Continued to bump me up until menopause symptoms were gon and i could sleep through the night. Now taking .100 mg estradiol patch. But have gained weight around the belly and still have hair loss. I eat clean, vegetarian plus fish. I do yoga every day and walk for over an hour every day. I have good energy, but i feel chunky around the middle. Am i taking too much progesterone with 100 mg orally every day?
100 milligrams micronized progesterone nightly is what everybody gives. She advocates from what I can see doing the cyclic HRT as opposed to continuous HRT because that way the progesterone isn't fighting the estradiol (gas/break)meaning you only take progesterone for one week ish while staying on an optimal level of estradiol patch the whole time with no break and then don't take progesterone first another 3ish weeks. That way you get a pretend period, shed the lining of the uterus. She calls it cyclic HRT. She offers a course where she explains all the particulars, but she's definitely for cyclic HRT and not continuous, and everybody offers the continuous only because they are afraid of uterine lining shedding. She says it isn't likely you will develop cancer of the uterine lining in a months time. You just don't wanna go a month over month without shedding the lining.
Hi! I take a Biest/testosterone troche. I had thought troches were considered transdermal. However, it sounds like taking it this way turns it into estrone? I have been struggling with gerd since starting hrt. Would this be the cause? Would it be better to use a cream? I am losing weight so I’m not worried about that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!😀
Gerd would most likely come from the progesterone component because progesterone naturally relaxes the esophagus and other ligaments and tendons in the body. It’s what loosens up a woman's pelvis to prepare her for childbirth. So, maybe lower your progesterone dose and see if your Gerd symptoms improve.
Most women have very low Progesterone after 36..So how could it be that? Unless she is taking the micronised pill. You need Progesterone.. it removes anxiety and helps you sleep.
I do Biote Pellets. I have this problem? what do I do? If I go up I get more water retention what do I do? I take a low dose I cannot go high either. The highest is 10 I am on 8 and I am still puffy again and I hate it. Any suggestions Please. I am 61 years old. If I go higher then I am uncomfortable so what do I do
If you have high estrone will taking estradiol block those receptor cites and help modulate it? I think need some but my practitioner is reluctant because she's only testing total estrogen 🤯
I have been taking oral estrogen and of recent vaginal estradiol. I think the oral estrogen has cause massive amounts of water retention as well as vesteral fat. I feel like a bloated fish. It’s been like this for years. I cannot loss weight even tho I work out a lot and eat pretty darn good. When I run I can barely breath because of my belly. It becomes uncomfortable. Sound I try the patch. Last night I decided to go off of the oral. I mean honestly I still had night sweats and hot flashes so as far as that it did not work. So any thoughts on patches. I use to do them but immediately changed to pill because I would sweat the patch off. Willing to try again. Please help.
I understand what you are saying. And really appreciate the knowledge you share. The only problem I encounter is in my country most of my friends are on pellets . I don’t know if that is what you reccomend. I would love to be able to consult with you but I do not think is on my possibilities and it is somewhat frustrating. I am right now in the end of a FMCA coaching certification in functional medicine I would love to be able to help me and help others in my country all women who are suffering even if they are in some kind of hormones. Without even being capable of knowing if it’s right for them.
I am so scared of taking or going on hormones because I have finally managed four years ago to loose a ton of weight and put back the Insuline resistance through low carb and fasting and It feels like too much to risk on my end right now but if I could debug this in the right way I would be willing to try
Can I still cycle progesterone as a recently menopausal woman on daily E with endometriosis? Or is having E opposed without P for 2 weeks each month a bad idea?
I must say this information is not accurate for everyone. I take .5 estradiol pill and 100 mg of micro progesterone. A month later of taking both every day (i still have menstruation) I bled for a week straight 2 weeks after having my mens. Did blood work and the ratio E2/ Pr is 33. If progesterone would down regulate E2 , that wouldn’t have happened to me. So what is the problem here?
I'm on 0.375 patch and progesterone iud. Estrodial gave me melasma, so I don't want to take anymore. Should we be taking testosterone? Some doctors are all about it, but not mine.
Felice.. I’ve just learnt so much by you thank you. I’ve just started hrt and 60 yrs old.. I’ve been taking it for a week now and all I’m getting is bloating started bleeding and feel like I’m a teenager again. I’m on a gel as there are no patches available right now.. my doctor has put me on a dosage of 0.75 estrodial and take it in the evenings around 9pm along with progesterone .. from listening to to you should I be upping this amount and leaving the progesterone.. would love your advice.
I love your information so much thank you. So should we stop Estradiol and Progesterone for 2 weeks then? This is so helpful. I hope someone can answer my question.
I watched one of her videos and she said do not stop your estradiol cold turkey because it can sometimes lead to a heart attack from vascular spasm. What I'm going to do is I stopped taking progesterone a couple days ago at night the hundred milligram Micronized Progesterone and I am going to go without it for three weeks then I am going to take 200 mg for 5 to 7 to 14 days until the bleeding stops, assuming I will start my pretend period. She does offer a course. I think it's $200 where she explains how to do this. I just don't have $200.. but the one thing that stood out to me was do not stop your estradiol once you are on it. I may go down to a lower my dose during my period. I have 1 mg patches that I generally cut in half as I need it or 3/4.. or 1/4.
@seablue140 thank you for clarifying and I don't get periods anymore. But maybe they will come back? I'm post menopause and need to figure this out because I'm told to take progesterone with my Estradiol patch.
I believe you do not cycle progesterone in post menopause, and never cycle estrogen. You need progesterone if you have an uterus, bc of increased cancer risk if you only take estrogen. I am in peri and my doctor told me not to cycle progesterone, but I don’t think there is yet a consensus whether to cycle or not during peri.
I just recently started HRT at 63 with oral 2mg estradiol, 200 mg progesterone and testosterone cream. Been in menopause for 5 years. I feel good. I have gained 20 lbs in those years. Now 175 lb and 5’6 with Osteopenia. Otherwise I am pretty healthy. My hormone doctor recommended the oral estradiol for the heart benefit that he said the patches and creams don’t deliver. I started weight training and upped my protein and taking AlgaeCal for calcium. But now you have me concerned about the estrone conversion from my oral estradiol. I was told to expect an initial weight from fluid but in time that would dissipate with the testosterone, I think. I have always had dense breasts with no breast cancer in family. Should I be on estradiol patch or cream instead? Why would women in their 60’s want to cycle again and if so, to what age?
I have never heard anyone say that the pill or the oral estradiol is good for you. The only thing I've ever heard about the oral estradiol pill is that it ups your risk of strokes the patch is the one you want. I repeat the patch is what you want. Not oral. It isnt safe! She says in this video right above us that the Oral converts to estrone, not eatradiol and that isn't good.
@@seablue140 I've heard that also about pill form of estradiol, but if you read the pamphlet that comes in your box of estradiol patches, the list of side effects include strokes, heart attack and cancer. Scary.
@@MotherNatured7 Please read the pamphlet that comes with your patches. Side effects include Stroke, Heart attack, and cancer. I'm off HRT because of this. Its not worth it.
I got prescribed estradiol .025 mg 2x per week patch and progesterone 100 mg by mouth nightly . I am pre menopause. Does this fall in line with the advice you give?
63 and post.... doing exactly what you are doing for a year now and think my body is finally adjusting and stabilizing I did this solely to sleep better but added benefits of better mood, and my face looks great 👍
Lost my waist, feel like a stuffed sausage 😖 My doctor doesn't know much about hrt...she looked it up and prescribed a very low dose. I don't know how to get an appropriate dose... I'm relying on my doctor and she doesn't really know.
Maca Powder and Indian Ginseng daily for 4 months. It sounds like your Thyroid is not working effectively anymore and also the body is trying to manufacture Estrone.. your deficient in hormones and minerals. Seek other practitioners as well. Homepaths etc. You need transdermal bio identification cream too. Your diet needs to completely change. Cut out alcohol completely.
I was on the highest patch dose and my dr said I needed to go to the oral pill in order to increase my dose. I checked and the patches are only in lower doses.
The pills are no good because they go through the liver and she says they convert to estrone, which is no Bueno! I've been watching her for a week now and she really only talks about the patch being the best and an optimal dose and they usually come as high as 1 mg so I am guessing 1 mg is what she have advocates for she does have a course that explains a lot of it. I just can't afford it myself, I'm trying out cyclic HRT which she advocates for most doctors will only put you on continuous and she said it's like putting the gas on with estradiol and then the progesterone puts the brakes on so your body never really gets what it needs.
I took bio identical hormones at menopause for 5 years and then stopped 10 years ago. Now at 66 is it too late to start again? Some doctors say yes others say no.
No it's not too late! Dr. Gersh mentions this in some of her videos. I also stopped and then started back a few months before turning 66 and I do like how I am feeling. It took me a few months to be able to tolerate the hormones, i.e. progesterone made me so sleepy, etc. but it's been a year and I feel great.
@@leslieharari8755 thank you much for your reply. I wish I have stuck with it but the cost and then I felt I’d been through the worst of it but now I feel I need it again. Too much conflicting information.
I've watched other videos and the answer is No! You can go back on them...they are a major benefit. I'm doing so myself at 72 ,but I need to play with the dosage.
I am 70 and had a TAH at age 42. I have been off HRT for over 10 years, but now having problem in all areas. I heard it is too late to start back on any hormones. I do not want any weight gain or hair loss though.
I started transdermal estrodial this week..I was prescribed daily progestrone 100mg at night....does anybody else take this but not daily? What is the reccomedation?
If it stops your hot flashes and brain fog then it is the right dose for you. Some women need more, some women need less. The important thing is to listen to your own body and track your symptoms on a calendar so you can share that data with your doctor at follow up appointments.
So how much are we supposed to take then of estradiol 1.0 would that make me bleed? And then progesterone you're saying that it'll counteract with the estrogen. Are we not supposed to take that every day. I still can't sleep, am I taking adequate estradiol on the Dottie patch? That doctor I have does not know anything and maybe she agreed to the 05 because she doesn't know anything I don't know either
Just be patient the menopause process doesn’t occur overnight so addressing the hormonal imbalance won’t resolve overnight either. You and your physician may need to adjust doses as you go
I take estrogen, 0.05 patch and cyclic 100 mg. progesterone.
That's interesting. I'm curious what age you started taking HRT? Peri or post menopause?
So bloated.
Listen to this lady!!!!! ❤ She is one of a few on UA-cam that is honest and factual and not after your $$$
I'm 57 1/2 still perimenopausal not on HRT YET but will be soon. You'll be so happy that you did!
talk me through the eliminating wheat aspect....
Fascinating. I lost loads of weight on HRT but I use gels and creams
Same.
Same with me gained weight on HRT but haven’t been able to get it off.
You were in peri years before 53.. it can last 12 years. I'd say 47..

I’m hoping to shed this 30lbs I’ve gained from grief and depression. I sure hope this increase in dosage continues the mental health boost I’ve received.😊
Thank you! What does of progesterone are you on?
Would love to know how it goes. I was put on .25 for years and nothing good ever came from it. Asked my naturopath to up it recently to .5 and feeling much better. I think I need to go to .75 to really knock out all of this craziness in my body. For many of you ladies not sure if the age of your menopause makes a difference. Be sure not to use a 20% concentrate progesterone cream. The body can only absorb at 3% or 5%. If you use a cream that is too concentrated, you won't absorb it and you will get estrogen dominant.

Thank you!
Yes I was looking for the same. If we don't need progesterone everyday then what is the alternative ratio and timing? The content was great though

This is the best knowledge that I've EVER heard. I've been going back and fourth about HRT/BIO IdenticalHRT. Can this help post menopausal women?
so what is a proper starting dose for a estradiol patch and progesterone for post menopause?
It's not so much what is on your patch, but how much is in your blood. I had the actual estrogen in my system tested and it was too low.
Topical cream is much better
Your very knowledeable and good at explaining all of this.
This is really interesting, and clear, and aligns with other OB GYNS I follow on here.
Best presentation i ve seen. 😊. Thank you
I have early menopause. Given my relatively young age (late 30s) is HRT with E2 + Real Progesterone still better than the pill? That’s my preference but some people think I need higher dose of hormones that’s in the pill 😢
I know you can’t give personal advice but may I hear your thoughts?😊
I'm curious too
I'm not absolutely sure about this, but I feel like I heard somewhere that the hormones in birth control are not the body identical Estradiol and Micronized Progesterone.
Me too.
Yes did that to me too. I’d like to know!
Doesn't work for you its probably converting into another sex hormone. Or triggering the Cortisol levels. I'd taper of them and start afresh. Bio identical creams research good supplements and adaptagens to take. Go to a good homeopath.
@@marynow123 yes I can relate.

Some menopausal aged women I know take no HRT and don’t gain weight. How is this possible?
Genetics, I’m guessing.
So how often when on estradiol, should Progesterone be taken?
Thank you ❤
My problem is my medical providers, online services won't treat women over 60 and I'm 68.
@debramccawley WoW, and over 60 is when you really need it the most.
Thyroid issues and your appetite switch has been on. Go to a homeopath.

I'm suffering from the same thing
How long have you been on HRT? There's definitely several months where your body needs to get used to it.
😢Only Patches.. and / OR lotions not everyone can use patches.. though . 😮
Maybe vaginal Pessaries can Be used.. !
This Doctor is Not a Conventional Doctor, But a Qualified Dr. Who is intergrated which I prefer 🎉
Oral has a higher risk of clotting, i,e. thrombosis. Transdermal don;t
Did she say that cycling progesterone not taking it daily during menopause will help you lose visceral fat?
My same question...
Thank u for sharing & guiding 😍💝
Can you please clearly give optimal dose and when to take for both estradiol and progesterone?? I take the profesterone daily but you say this is incorrect?
My takeaway was that she suggests a daily dose estradiol the entire month but only take prog for half the month.... then the last 2 weeks shed the lining...?
@@jennysiepka9900 that is my take as well. In fact, I even heard her say that some women only wanna bleed for five days and my guess is that the progesterone needs to go up in dose since it's taken for a shorter period of time as she has said something along those lines.
66 yrs old on Oestridal and Utrogestan. Only on it a month.
Feel good on it BUT is it better to do it naturally? 11 yrs post meno btw
Estrodiol patch could possibly cause your hair loss. This is one of side effects. You can read the insert from your prescription.
@@seablue140 its two weeks on, two weeks off with cyclic progesterone, at least here in the UK
You need meat and butter.. organic cider vinegar in the mornings. That sounds like Estrone been manufactured by your body.
Humans Need the bioavailability of animal protein to have optimal health. Not a philosophical judgement - just a biological fact
I didn’t have high cholesterol till I went into menopause.
That is protective that is if you dont eat processed foods, sugars/ fructose, seed oils.
Progesterone comes from Cholesterol. You have cholesterol around your brain. Chol-rsterol. It's a steroid hormone...
People are so brainwashed they think cholesterol is bad. All those low fat products and statins.. Big money from the gullible masses.
THANK YOU! This is so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
What's your gut health like?? You need to look after your gut. That's why you are having these issues.
And by the way I am 52 and still menstruate although starting to get irregular
Can I still cycle progesterone as a recently menopausal woman on daily E with endometriosis? Or is having E opposed without P for 2 weeks each month a bad idea?
I just started Estrogen Gel & Projesterone tablet. I'm looking for info on that. In Australia there are very few options available.
Take estradion valerate 2mg
I'm on 0.375 patch and progesterone iud. Estrodial gave me melasma, so I don't want to take anymore.
Should we be taking testosterone? Some doctors are all about it, but not mine.
Instead of IUD, you can switch to oral prometrium if you want to stay on HRT. Also, apply sunblock while on HRT to prevent melasma.
What about surgical menopause? On patch estrodot and utrogestan and T cream
If you start to bleed on HRT, ask your dr. To lower your estrodiol dosage. It will help to stop bleeding.
@@李增琪 thank you.. I’ve come off it for now.
@seablue140 sounds good thank you!
@@seablue140 I wish there was a way to let me know how it goes.
Definitely consider estradiol patches. Most women absorb them well. And they are safer than oral estradiol. Safer from blood clots and strokes.
Who in their mind would take oral Estradiol or Progestins. Or even the micronised Progesterone 🤣 So much ignorance out there.
Thank you so much for this video! It cleared so much up!
In my country only cyclical oral or continuous combined intramuscolar hrt is available. Would any of these better than nothing?
I got prescribed estradiol .025 mg 2x per week patch and progesterone 100 mg by mouth nightly . I am pre menopause. Does this fall in line with the advice you give?
Get on the Progesterone cream. The pill isn't great.
Bio identical *
To my understanding High Androgen causes P.C.O.S.
Try patches and if you need more estradiol add a transdermal cream or gel to bump up your dose as needed. Its safer than oral estradiol.
If you’re within 10 years of having hrt you can take it
I am 70 and had a TAH at age 42. I have been off HRT for over 10 years, but now having problem in all areas. I heard it is too late to start back on any hormones. I do not want any weight gain or hair loss though.
Is it enough 50mcg estradiol in patches
What if you had a thyroidectomy and hysterectomy?
Does anyone know of a good doctor for this in the Long Island, NY area?
I started transdermal estrodial this week..I was prescribed daily progestrone 100mg at night....does anybody else take this but not daily? What is the reccomedation?
I do but I was not told to cycle the progesterone. I need to look into this
What about Estriol as in the Bi-est compound?
Is 0.0375 mg transdermal estradiol too low?
Ask your dr for prometrium tontake nightly that will help you to sleep.
Dr Gersh do you have a video for HRT for women who have had a full hysterectomy? Thank you I had mine at 42…..
Same here. Had mine at 46. I'm curious.
I had a Total Hysterectomy at 42 also.
My estrogen is high on my period in peri. Terrible
So excited you are in Irvine!!!
Just be patient the menopause process doesn’t occur overnight so addressing the hormonal imbalance won’t resolve overnight either. You and your physician may need to adjust doses as you go
