Hi Dr. I had first iui done last month, for 5 days I felt like I was pregnant, nausea, heartburn, sensitivity to the smell. I tested negative for pregnancy and start my period on the same day… I have pcos and had history of stock.. I am 26 yr old and my question was why did I feel like pregnant?

Does everyone have to take progesterone after IUI procedure? What's a great level to be at for progesterone for implantation? If my doctor say I don’t need it my levels are good , should I ask for it anyway? Please help, We have been trying since 2018. Aglaee Ornelas your doc is quite creative to do that. The other thing they can do is add Femara with Clomid too. And if you have pcos then add dexamethasone too to your protocol. It can help!

My calendar shows for me to start birth control cycle day 1 I think this is all for their scheduling not happy about it also, they told me to take 10 pills all 10 in one night (the leterzole) 4 nights before iui then I’ll have the trigger shot two days before iui I’m just not understanding this at all being a nurse I don’t know if I will even do this iui. Hi Dr.Aimee, I watch all your video regularly. I have one question hoping to find a solution. When I did my 1st IUI, I was given 1 tablet to take for 5 days during scan we just had one follicle. Result IUI failed. When we did our 2nd IUI, i was given 2 tablets to take at night for 2 days followed by 1 injection for 3 days just to increase the number of follicles. However, again we just have one good follicle. Result 2nd IUI also failed. I am 36 years. Just wanted to check is there any other thing that can be done to increase number of follicles to increase the chances of successful IUI?

It’s hard to be young and have issues because people sometimes don’t take you seriously and don’t do enough tests! I totally get why you’d feel that way. I make sure to do every test I possibly can when someone is 30 as I do for everyone. Keep asking questions
My doctor says the same thing to my SO and myself . We are both 25 and all my doctor keeps saying is how we are so young and was even skeptical to take us on when we were referred by my OB. Now 3 month later we will be starting out IUI process. It’s such a frustrating comment to make at a patient as if I didn’t already feel horrible as it is trying for 4 years and not conceiving when I was even younger at that .

A close friend of mine was only given one shot of iui on Day 10 of her cycle...no abdominal ultrasound was done during IUI and was asked to get up 5 mins after the procedure...and it failed :( ...

Not every bicornuate is the same. Be sure to talk to your doctor about exactly what yours is like: is one side bigger than the other? Is one tube open and one tube not? Is there a cervix that is more developed than the other? All of these things are important. Do you only have one cervix? And talk to a high risk obgyn and a fertility doc too! They will guide you

I’m 35. Getting ready for an IUI. Asked my obgyn I wanna be put on some pills to ovulate more than 1 egg since I’d love to have twins .She discouraged me , saying such pills can lead to multiple eggs been ovulated and multiple pregnancies which is unsafe. I was disappointed cuz I thought there’s a possibility of ovulating just 2 or 3 eggs per cycle. Why did she tell me this ? Doc is there something she isn’t telling me?
When you take fertility pills, you may ovulate 1.5 eggs is what I tell my patients: some cycles it could be 2, some 1, rarely more than 2. Twins may be seen as a complication of fertility treatment, so this is why fertility docs are so sensitive to this request. My approach to fertility care is: diagnosis before treatment. If for example the sperm quality is low, then I do want my patient to ovulate more eggs to increase the chance that the sperm could fertilize an egg. There are other scenarios too: when a woman is older, when a fallopian tube is blocked. In both scenarios, taking a higher dose may help.
I'm back again, after I watched your video. I have so many questions, I never received any trigger shot from my doctor, is it normal? I told my doctor I felt my hormone is off, I get night sweats before my period. I I always feels sometimes extremely hot and sometimes cold. I don’t think my doctor mention anything regarding my hormone concerns. I felt I learned more from your video than my doctor, I want you to be my doctor 😂😂😂
I'm glad you asked. If you haven't seen this yet, it's a good read. draimee.org/the-7-things-you-didnt-know-about-the-trigger-shot Here's what I would think about what you shared: maybe you didn't need a trigger because you already had a positive opk? Maybe there were signs on ultrasound that you were ovulating : collapsing follicle, fluid behind your uterus. I use the trigger shot to make sure that I've timed the IUI perfectly but I know for sure that it isn't required. I hope this helps.

Hi, My fist IUI failed and I am going in for 2nd round of IUI. I am 35 years old and I am diagnosed with unexplained infertility and have regular cycles. I am taking letrozole 2.5 mg . I asked my doctor and requested for follicles scan and possible trigger shot,but my doctor refused the scan saying I am ovulating normally due to positive OPK test and I do not need a trigger shot. I just had my first IUI yesterday. I thought of a question and can’t find the answer to it online. I had two mature follicles, a natural LH surge, followed shortly by the hcg trigger shot. My question is- do both mature follicles release at the same time? Or can they release hours apart? I assume chances for conception would improve if they released hours apart.

I'm currently on birth control because my periods are irregular (will not come on unless I keep taking the pills), does that mean I can be infertile? How long before IUI do i need to stop taking the pills? What should I do to improve?
Jasmine Azeem ask your doctor “why are my periods irregular?” There is a very straightforward work up for irregular periods. The reasons could be pcos, hypothalamic amenorrhea, a thyroid or prolactin problem, a low egg issue.... without the proper testing you wouldn’t know. Once you have a diagnosis then you will be able to do what’s in your control to make them regular. And you can do an iui cycle right after you stop your birth control but always talk to your doctor first.
I'm part of the 5% of the population that has a difficult time with the speculum. Everyone tells me to relax but it's hard to do so. One doc told me to try meditation, but I should have asked for specifics because I don't really know what that means for the exam. My last doc was very patient and slowly walked me through the process and was wonderful! Any tips on helping me get through this? I will be doing IUI soon and am a bit anxious about the speculum exam, especially since my doc has changed due to Covid-19.
I would do this: Ask for a prescription of valium. Don't drive yourself. Take one tablet 30 minutes before the procedure and don't empty your bladder at the time of the IUI especially if your uterus is anteverted. The other things you can do: acupuncture, wear a headset with relaxing music, request a lot of lubrication on the speculum and lastly be sure to tell the doctor to be extremely gentle, go slow and tell them you'd like them to tell you what they are doing before they do it.
Perhaps ask if you can insert it in yourself, sometimes is less stressful if you do it to yourself than to have someone else do it for you and plenty of lube.
Lori Gissendaner how did they pick Thursday then? And call them back to ask why they didn’t give you a trigger. One reason could be that you have a lot of follicles that are mature. Another reason could be that they want you to update them with your opk results to confirm the best time.
I had a tubal reversal on December 2020 they did a fimbriae repair on both of them... HSG on Feb 2021 (one tube open, one blocked) and fertility doctor is doing hormones test in a few days... she suggested that IUI might work ... how would it work if my fimbriae is probably not able to do its job? I probably should of ask her that but I forgot
hello Dr. Aimee, i did my IUI this morning and i didn't know that there's no lubricant was used for the speculum (only sterile water). it was painful, and im also having pain during intercourse. im using topical lidocaine gel before to ease the pain. my physician advised me to have intercourse with my husband for three nights after iui and i am worried if i can use lubricant and topical lidocaine. will it affect the iui? chances of getting pregnant? thank you so much!
I wonder if the sperm was low and that’s why they told you to have sex for three nights after IUI. Ask them about that. And you can use sperm friendly lubricants.
I would say it really depends on the size of the fibroids and your goals. If they are big and you are over 37 years old then do ivf and freeze embryos and then transfer. If it’s small and you aren’t ovulating then consider Ovulation induction with Femara.

Hi Dr Amy, I am 32 years old having PCOS problem. I opted for IUI, however, my 2nd IUI failed too. My husband sperm quality is good and their is no issues with my egg too, so just wanna know the probable reasons. During the 2nd IUI procedure, my doc had too give me 1000 mg of HSG twice as egg rupture was not happening and my egg size was 22 mm. I was reading that having big size could also be an issue, pls suggest.

Doing my 1st IUI this Friday. Husband sperm count was 12Million. I had a misscarriage 2 years ago and nothing since then, why we are doing IUI. We tried timed relations using just femara, then femara and trigger shot the last 2 cycles with no luck. Had trigger shot tonight, doc said to have sex tomorrow morning in case egg is released early, also had sex yesterday and like I said IUI will be Friday 9am. Is there anything we should avoid after IUI? Like traveling, etc, etc?

Thank you so much for your response, I have been trying to conceive since 1 year now, only medication I take is prenatal vitamins which has 1000mcg folic acid. My doctors appointment is in feb last week, did not get any early appointments. So I am on my own for 2 months. I was wondering if I could get progesterone medicine over the counter or online. If there is any other vitamin supplements I should consider other than folic acid
@@rashminair90 yes consider adding coq10 and vitamin D with a prenatal that has fish oil in it. Ask your doc to prescribe progesterone too. I'm not aware of a reliable way of getting it over the counter without an rx.

Actually it’s rescheduled. My follicles got stuck. I was put back on clomid for 5 more days. Why does that happen?

It’s hard to be young and have issues because people sometimes don’t take you seriously and don’t do enough tests! I totally get why you’d feel that way. I make sure to do every test I possibly can when someone is 30 as I do for everyone. Keep asking questions
My doctor says the same thing to my SO and myself . We are both 25 and all my doctor keeps saying is how we are so young and was even skeptical to take us on when we were referred by my OB. Now 3 month later we will be starting out IUI process. It’s such a frustrating comment to make at a patient as if I didn’t already feel horrible as it is trying for 4 years and not conceiving when I was even younger at that .

A close friend of mine was only given one shot of iui on Day 10 of her cycle...no abdominal ultrasound was done during IUI and was asked to get up 5 mins after the procedure...and it failed :(

Not every bicornuate is the same. Be sure to talk to your doctor about exactly what yours is like: is one side bigger than the other? Is one tube open and one tube not? Is there a cervix that is more developed than the other? All of these things are important. Do you only have one cervix? And talk to a high risk obgyn and a fertility doc too! They will guide you

Dear Dr Aimee- do you also do an ultrasound on 1-2 day of the cycle prior to IUI to see if there are any cysts in the ovaries? Is that a necessary step?
I’m 35. Getting ready for an IUI. Asked my obgyn I wanna be put on some pills to ovulate more than 1 egg since I’d love to have twins .She discouraged me , saying such pills can lead to multiple eggs been ovulated and multiple pregnancies which is unsafe. I was disappointed cuz I thought there’s a possibility of ovulating just 2 or 3 eggs per cycle. Why did she tell me this ?
Doc is there something she isn’t telling me?
When you take fertility pills, you may ovulate 1.5 eggs is what I tell my patients: some cycles it could be 2, some 1, rarely more than 2. Twins may be seen as a complication of fertility treatment, so this is why fertility docs are so sensitive to this request. My approach to fertility care is: diagnosis before treatment. If for example the sperm quality is low, then I do want my patient to ovulate more eggs to increase the chance that the sperm could fertilize an egg. There are other scenarios too: when a woman is older, when a fallopian tube is blocked. In both scenarios, taking a higher dose may help.

I told my doctor I felt my hormone is off, I get night sweats before my period. I I always feels sometimes extremely hot and sometimes cold. If you haven't seen this yet, it's a good read. draimee.org/the-7-things-you-didnt-know-about-the-trigger-shot Here's what I would think about what you shared: maybe you didn't need a trigger because you already had a positive opk? Maybe there were signs on ultrasound that you were ovulating : collapsing follicle, fluid behind your uterus. I use the trigger shot to make sure that I've timed the IUI perfectly but I know for sure that it isn't required. I hope this helps.

Meera Muralidharan hi! Thank you for bringing this up. This means that you could have an ovarian cyst from the cycle. Talk to your doctor about simple hormone tests and an ultrasound to see what is going on.

My fist IUI failed and I am going in for 2nd round of IUI. I am 35 years old and I am diagnosed with unexplained infertility and have regular cycles. I am taking letrozole 2.5 mg . I asked my doctor and requested for follicles scan and possible trigger shot,but my doctor refused the scan saying I am ovulating normally due to positive OPK test and I do not need a trigger shot. I just had my first IUI yesterday. I thought of a question and can’t find the answer to it online. I had two mature follicles, a natural LH surge, followed shortly by the hcg trigger shot. My question is- do both mature follicles release at the same time? Or can they release hours apart? I assume chances for conception would improve if they released hours apart.
yes! they can release hours apart. They don't come out of the follicle at the exact same time.

Hema devi it can be uncomfortable for some people. If you’re sensitive to speculum exams and ultrasounds then it may be uncomfortable
I'm currently on birth control because my periods are irregular (will not come on unless I keep taking the pills), does that mean I can be infertile? How long before IUI do i need to stop taking the pills? What should I do to improve?
Jasmine Azeem ask your doctor “why are my periods irregular?” There is a very straightforward work up for irregular periods. The reasons could be pcos, hypothalamic amenorrhea, a thyroid or prolactin problem, a low egg issue.... without the proper testing you wouldn’t know. Once you have a diagnosis then you will be able to do what’s in your control to make them regular. And you can do an iui cycle right after you stop your birth control but always talk to your doctor first.

I'm part of the 5% of the population that has a difficult time with the speculum. Everyone tells me to relax but it's hard to do so. One doc told me to try meditation, but I should have asked for specifics because I don't really know what that means for the exam. My last doc was very patient and slowly walked me through the process and was wonderful! Any tips on helping me get through this? I will be doing IUI soon and am a bit anxious about the speculum exam, especially since my doc has changed due to Covid-19.
I would do this: Ask for a prescription of valium. Don't drive yourself. Take one tablet 30 minutes before the procedure and don't empty your bladder at the time of the IUI especially if your uterus is anteverted. The other things you can do: acupuncture, wear a headset with relaxing music, request a lot of lubrication on the speculum and lastly be sure to tell the doctor to be extremely gentle, go slow and tell them you'd like them to tell you what they are doing before they do it.
Perhaps ask if you can insert it in yourself, sometimes is less stressful if you do it to yourself than to have someone else do it for you and plenty of lube.
So I’m scheduled for an iui on Thursday but they didn’t even give me a trigger shot only is this right??
Lori Gissendaner how did they pick Thursday then? And call them back to ask why they didn’t give you a trigger. One reason could be that you have a lot of follicles that are mature. Another reason could be that they want you to update them with your opk results to confirm the best time.
They only went by my cycle and estimated the best day but I’ve been taking opk on my own and my cm I’m no where near ovulation
I had a tubal reversal on December 2020 they did a fimbriae repair on both of them... HSG on Feb 2021 (one tube open, one blocked) and fertility doctor is doing hormones test in a few days... she suggested that IUI might work ... how would it work if my fimbriae is probably not able to do its job? I probably should of ask her that but I forgot

hello Dr. Aimee, i did my IUI this morning and i didn't know that there's no lubricant was used for the speculum (only sterile water). it was painful, and im also having pain during intercourse. im using topical lidocaine gel before to ease the pain. my physician advised me to have intercourse with my husband for three nights after iui and i am worried if i can use lubricant and topical lidocaine. will it affect the iui? chances of getting pregnant? thank you so much!
I wonder if the sperm was low and that’s why they told you to have sex for three nights after IUI. Ask them about that. And you can use sperm friendly lubricants.

Some doctor would recommend patients to stay on bed for 15-30 mins after the procedure, so If you have full bladder, how can you do that?

What would you advise a patient who's suffering from pcos and fibroids to do to conceive?
I would say it really depends on the size of the fibroids and your goals. If they are big and you are over 37 years old then do ivf and freeze embryos and then transfer. If it’s small and you aren’t ovulating then consider Ovulation induction with Femara.

Hi Dr Amy, I am 32 years old having PCOS problem. I opted for IUI, however, my 2nd IUI failed too. My husband sperm quality is good and their is no issues with my egg too, so just wanna know the probable reasons. During the 2nd IUI procedure, my doc had too give me 1000 mg of HSG twice as egg rupture was not happening and my egg size was 22 mm. I was reading that having big size could also be an issue, pls suggest.

Doing my 1st IUI this Friday.
Husband sperm count was 12Million. I had a misscarriage 2 years ago and nothing since then, why we are doing IUI.
We tried timed relations using just femara, then femara and trigger shot the last 2 cycles with no luck.
Had trigger shot tonight, doc said to have sex tomorrow morning in case egg is released early, also had sex yesterday and like I said IUI will be Friday 9am. Is there anything we should avoid after IUI? Like traveling, etc, etc?

Thank you so much for your response, I have been trying to conceive since 1 year now, only medication I take is prenatal vitamins which has 1000mcg folic acid. My doctors appointment is in feb last week, did not get any early appointments. So I am on my own for 2 months. I was wondering if I could get progesterone medicine over the counter or online. If there is any other vitamin supplements I should consider other than folic acid
@@rashminair90 yes consider adding coq10 and vitamin D with a prenatal that has fish oil in it. Ask your doc to prescribe progesterone too. I'm not aware of a reliable way of getting it over the counter without an rx.
