I own one and happens to me every day ! 😀

I go past a triumph dealer everyday and is hard not to waltz in and pick one up.
💯
It's a great looking bike. I'll never be a leather daddy cuz of the cringy AF Harley culture, but when I'm too old for sport bikes I'll probably settle down on something that looks like this
I feel like most of the reasons he doesn’t like are what makes it stand out. Calm and controlled at the lower half of the rev range but wakes up when you let it rev out.
yeah... its funny. ive watched dozens of reviews where they tout that as a feature. its what works for you as a rider i guess.
I own this bike and love it.
This is the best Trident video review I have watched. Completely honest and true to what this bike really is. A great commuter bike. I live just outside of the city and spend a lot of time in the city. It's a fun weekend bike as well but not the ultimate weekend bike.
Thank you for the review!
I love my Trident. So satisfied with it. I knew I was going to get it when I saw all the official reviews from the official press release last year.
I’ve own 3 Triumphs, all triples , no transmission issues up to now .
You shouldn't believe everything they say on this channel
Sad that he thinks it’s so lame. I love mine. I can’t actually finish the review because I feel like he already made up his mind that he doesn’t like it, which kind of stinks
Yeah, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I have never heard a single complaint about the suspension or the tires on the Trident. In fact, they are often times 2 major praises that the bike gets. Better suspension than the comparable mt-07/ xsr 700 and sv650 and the Michelin Pilot 5s get massive praise for being a tire with great tread pattern for rain and a compound that is sticky on the sides for gripping in the corners and hard in the middle for longevity. I can understand the throttle complaint but when he went after the tires and suspension I basically had to chalk it up to bias or something.
This bike is well built I don't care about this review. Triumph bike are well built
Different types of riders opinions its all good.
This dudes reviews are always way off. He tries to sound smart but really comes off as very ignorant when it comes to bikes. This bike isn’t fast but then he’s probably riding a Harley and it’s super tourqy
I just bought mine and have about 70 miles on it. Only bike ive ever used was the shitty harley the msf guys gave me. The trident 660 is so much fun, it runs smoothly, the gears switch like butter and the suspension is great for my use case. Its a good bike in my opinion
Love my Trident 660! I dont regret purchasing it at all! I commute everyday and have the kreiga us20 on the back. I can ride it all day. It works well for me for that purpose.
Let’s not forget to mention the best attribute of this bike- the self canceling turn signals!!
They rock!!
Finally paying attention to my notifications. Not disappointed. Just got my first sv650 and I've been riding everyday, thanks again for this awful addiction yammie

Most of the points you made I agree but two.
First, you mentioned that Trident is happy at around 6-10K rpm and yet I don't see you driving in those range in the video at all.
Second, turning corners, for me it sticks to the line like an angel.
yeah its funny that he complains about the throttle below 6k and never downshifts the whole video.
Just got my first bike a Ducati Monster 2021 and I love it so much !! Albeit in urban mode mostly and taking it super easy but this thing is a BLAST !!
@Richard Hart I'm a first time rider so I have nothing to really compare it to but, it's definitely easy IMO. Then again I take it really easy and don't do anything stupid.
All motorcycles have their pluses and minuses. It seems like they do reviews that are bipolar at times. This bike is awesome one week...this bike has slow throttle response, poor suspension, ect...the next week, lol. To be fair, he started to explain what this bike was good for and designed to do by the end of the video. I think Triumph did what they set out to do with this bike. Make enough power to grow into yet make the throttle response and power delivery beginner friendly or for experienced riders that want a more relaxed ride without having to constantly focus on their throttle wrist at a great price point. If you want a Triumph with more grunt you can buy the street or speed triple.
I find most bikes that are the best to live with as primary transportation over the long run get lack luster reviews and the most exciting bikes are hard to live with daily or long term. My primary bike is an FZ6 and has power delivery that seem like his explanation. Not much under 4k and starts to pick up around 6k. For most normal road riding it ride great between 4-8k. Yes, sometimes I would like more low end grunt but for most my riding it is great. If I really want to go nuts I can just go somewhere remote and keep it between 8k and 14k.
Yup. He even said it toward the end. For a lot of riders they just want a more relaxed ride and city friendly throttle without it being boring when they want to open it up. Having a more mild early power band keeps you from having issues in traffic and it isn't like you need to rev it to the moon like some of the sport bikes when you want power. It's not a V twin cruiser and it's not a traditional naked sport bike, but it's not a super sport either. The power delivery actually appeals to me quite a bit.
Really liked the video format and delivery!
I bought this as my very first motorcycle, I love it
Hey man i like ur review and after watching ur vlog on 660 i bought .. thx man
This whole "beginner bike" thing, I mean come on... term is used way to much. This bike could be a weapon in a competent rider's hands.
Exactly it bugs me especially since these bikes can go 70mph at 5000 rpm and do 0-60 in 3-3.5 seconds a bit but I've gotten used to it
Nowadays it seems that If it doesn’t have 125hp plus it’s a beginner bike. Earlier saw a video that called a Z900 and MT-09 a beginner bike 😂
@@craiggraham2638 in the rest of Europe you have to be 18 to get a 125cc with 15hp limit, 20 to get a bike with 48hp limit, and if you ride for another 2 years you can upgrade your license to be able to ride whatever you want without getting a whole new license. Other wise 23 is the legal age for turbo busa sta- i mean full license 🙄... Legally anyways but still that must mean something
@@A--lex In the whole of Europe you can get the A2 when you turn 18. The A1 depends on the country can be earlier, for example in Spain you can get the A1 when you turn 16. And the full license, the earliest you can get it here is 20 y/o (18 for A2 + 2 years)
@@sanxi34 damn I live in Greece and i thought that it would apply to the rest of the European countries 😅
From what I’m seeing, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a specific tune for the break-in period, which then after breaking it in the throttle response is better because of the new tune.
Triumph owner here for 7 years. No transmission problem (not yet at least) :)
I have an 07 T100 , no mechanical problens whatsoever.
For anyone considering a Trident, but worried about the "muted" feeling. Tune it, completely made it a different bike.
How do you tune it?
When this popped up on my sub notifications I was just so happy. And I was having a pretty s****y morning, too... So, thank you! 🙏
The transmission issue he mentions (several times) is down to the chain tension being too loose. I found it very smooth. Also the delay throttle issue is a break in tune.
It goes away after the dealer first service.
Thank you for this comment! I was starting to get hesitant about buying this because of the lack of torque.
The Trident pumps out 80 HP. How much more does anyone really need on the road?
Actually, it only makes 72 at the rear wheel and 42 lb/ft of torque. It’s pretty poochy. I went from an FZ-07 to the Trident- I wish I had my FZ back. It’s lighter, had more torque, felt way faster and the throttle on the Trident is downright dangerously awful. It will sit there and hang after you’ve pulled the clutch in and then there’s the delay- it responds about a half second after you rev it. It’s just terrible.
I got the Trident because the new MT-09 is still not at dealers. I will be selling this Trident next spring.
72 at the rear wheel is approximately 80hp at the crank, which is how all manufacturers quote power specs. On another note, it's hard to beat the playfulness of the Mt07. The Trident is so smooth and controlled. Not for everyone
@@NicePantsLance Fair comment well made mate. I, for one, could not handle 150HP without losing both my licence and my bottle (cockney rhyming slang: bottle and glass = ars*) cheers
It's tuning. All new bikes have the same problem it's just all at different levels. The throttle is electronic and even tho you are calling for 100% throttle the bike is only giving 30-80%. Sadly most new bikes, even the r1 and zx10 do the same thing. It's harder to notice because they are still bigger engines but same problem
After 3yrs on a 2019 St twin, which was a good experience by the way! I now wanted a change! Saw the trident, good looking, lighter, faster. Yeah, bought one! I,m having a blast on this bike. You are out of the 1st three gears in seconds, 4 5 and 6,that's where this bike encourages you to be. It wants you to thrash it, so I do, no complaints fun bike.
What a missed opportunity on this bike! I come from a 2010 Street Triple R and this motorcycle just tipped all my points in terms of looks and added electronic features compared to my currently "raw" ride. I was just hoping for them to keep the punch of the triple-cylinder of the STriple, but apparently, they toned it down too much. They probably did that on purpose to not cannibalize the STriple market. I will try it to get a personal idea, but I don't think I will "upgrade".
Hi. I'm a commuter biker from Italy and I use my bike every day, winter, rain, wind and wathever.
I use it on country roads, city roads and highways.
One thing I don't understand how is it possible to consider a bike with absoltely no wind protection a commuter one. It seems to me to be a good urban, but almost strictly urban.
But that's based on my experience.
Please forgive my bad English language.
had rough shifting brand new, but at my first service visit they adjusted pretty much everything in the drivetrain, and no more issues at all, love how it shifts, have no intention of getting the quick shift accessory.
Spite you use the words "Fine" and "Its ok" as much as you did regarding the Vulcan S XD
Congrats to Spite! You made the saddest Trident 660 video ever!
I heard something about the throttle feel and that it comes from the software issue. Talk to your dealer, I think there was some software update sometime in may to improve the feel
The transmission on my 2013 Street Triple? Smooth as butter and never an issue. Never heard of transmission issues with the modern Triumphs. My Suzuki however, "clunk".
Do a comparison between the trident and the svartpilen 701 guys!!
Doesn't that flashing rpm indicate it is below 1000km & still in restricted mode?
I have a Triumph street triple. 15000 miles and no transmission problems.
This is a review consistent with someone that has been a veteran biker. This is a great second bike to carve the turns, very nimble and the lower end torque picks up great. I bought a Tiger 800 for off road and found myself carving the turns. I got the Trident and really enjoy the corners. This is a sport naked, it acts like a sport naked, I have had a few. But it is very nimble compared to the others. Veteran bikers will find it boring, my Tiger 800 will out accelerate it on the highway but in the city this bike is king.
Spite in shock revelation that 650 class naked bike is best at doing what 650 class naked bikes are designed to do.
Last time I came this early I was still single
Mine is on order, but I'm still weeks away. I'm hoping from the fact that nobody has these things in the showroom (at least in the midwest) means that there will be a decent aftermarket for them at some point.
Hey Yam, you guys need to come down under to the Blue Mountains Australia, to shoot some vids. Lots of good tracks to scramble, and awesome roads to ride. Let me know if your keen.
Do you think the little delay in the throttle is related to having the traction control turned on?
ahh this is eating me alive. ive got some sort of motorcycle fever and i have barely any knowledge of motorcycles and absolutely zero experience. ive been researching motorcycles and watching a lot of videos. im only 13 and cant even drive yet lmao.
@@p.chakraborty4453 wrong even after getting a bike it never goes away it only festers more motorcycles are a terminal disease
Get a dirt bike. You can learn on that then in a few years you can get a motorcycle permit but have plenty of experience
I picked up a really lightly used '22 about 6 weeks ago. It keeps being referred to as a beginner bike and I do get that it'd be a pretty good one (if the person at least has some previous dirt experience). But the "My first motorcycyle ever" crowd? Maybe not so much. "Beginner bike" has a negative connotation that would make seasoned riders maybe dismiss it. This is not my first bike, but 5th, the last being a '15 Ducati Streetfighter. While the Trident way less powerful and slow in comparison, it's not a slow feeling bike, you just need to really wring it out to get some speed. Overall I feel like it's about a perfect "all-rounder" which is exactly what I was looking for. It's quick, smooth as butter, handles great, has a great seating position, etc. It's doesn't do anything perfectly, but it seems to do everything well. I was looking for something of a Swiss Army knife and feel like I got it. Don't get me wrong though, there are some times when I wish it had 40 more hp, haha
I've had mine for a little over a month and put 4,000 miles on it. I absolutely love it and its perfect for commuting and twisty roads. I'm 6'4 and 250lbs and it fits perfectly fine
Well, that's awesome. I've owned mine for two months and I think I only have about 2,000 mi.
Thanks Rubin, I'm 6'5" and have been wondering about fitment for bigger riders. So far this guy who is 6'2" is biggest I have seen review and he talks about how he feels like a giant on it durring another video.
@@adamrichmond6348 No problem man! I feel the pain of being a bigger rider and cringing at people when they ask "hey so and so, I'm 5"7, can I fit on this bike" when more than likely most bikes aren't built for us bigger people without looking like a bear humping a basketball. So, my advice would be just to sit on one, and get the salesperson to take a profile picture of you sitting on the bike in the proper riding position to see if you think you look weird on it. The Trident definitely isn't a big bike, short wheele base and thin tank so if most of your height is in your legs rather than an even split between torso and legs it may not be the best bike for you fit wise. Hope some of that helps!
Edit: by "profile picture" I meant a side picture of you as if you were riding past them and they were on the side of the road.
mirrors - get bar ends if needed. The transmission gets better with kilometers {it beds in}.
Started on 750 Honda shadow 8 years ago. Commuting for like 4 years sold it. And now I want a sport 600 or smaller. Any suggestions for some commute or just for fun
Hey I noticed that my Trident almost became ‘unlocked’ after the 600 mi service. One of the things I noticed was that the flashing tac disappeared. There was a noticeable difference in the throttle and the engine power. It’s like Triumph put some kind of computer governor on it for the first 600 mi
Interesting! Would like to hear if more people felt the same way after their 600mi services.
@@Suplex. For the first ~480 km it flashed the rev bar at 4000 rpm, after that it let me go to 5k, after about 980 km, the next step is 6000, and somewhere 1300 km I unlocked the 7000 rpms, I'm currently at 1570 km and It's still flashed at 7000 on my way home. Actually there is a shift assist or something like that in the menu, that's the flashing telling you to shift. So the bike is in "running-in" mode by default for the first 1000 miles (about 1600 km), after that it changes to "default" according to the owners manual. I had the first service at 940 km btw and nothing changed. They probably set Whiskey's bike to default or he just unlocked the 6000 rpm step because 600 miles are about 960 km-s and that's somewhere when I unlocked it. I wrote 980 km but it was probably 960 (on the way home from the triumph service) because it's logical for the bike to "think" in miles because it's a british product. I didn't feel any throttle or engine difference tho, only the unleashed power of the higher rpms.
Yeah it's in ride-in mode from the factory. You can turn it off in the display settings
My wife said the same thing about hers. She felt like it unlocked itself one the flash stopped flickering
Lol. It’s all in your head. I own one, have over 1000 miles- it’s just as poochy as it ever was with terrible throttle feel. The new MT-09 can’t replace it soon enough.
Im really happy with my trident :)
Damn, that throttle by wire is a killer. 😕 Hopefully someone comes out with a 1 to 1 map soon.
The throttle "problem" goes away after the first dealer service. It's there on purpose
@@JulianKishwhat should I tell dealer specifically to fix this ? I don’t want to just assume that dealer knows it and will take care of it

Well that answers my insurance question I have been asking forever
You can't compare this bike with a street triple. I love mine, it's does exactly what it was intended to do. It's a bigginer bike.
So I'm just now seeing these pop up at dealers and even saw one on the road today! I'd been interested in this bike since I head about its release. I'm currently on a 2018 KTM Duke 690 and man is that fun and beats me up just the same. I am a bit of a squid and enjoy ridding out for a few hours and this seems to be a bit more docile and technical when it comes to the power band. Anyone here have an opinion on the Trident being a good swap from the 690?
I was also "surprised" by these white turn signal connectors. Could have made a solid wire.
I actually enjoy the throttle slop, sue me! Most of my daily riding is in rain mode for max mpg. I know for fact a remap of the ecu would resolve the slop. Would be nice to have a 3rd ride mode option, a "sport" mode so to speak.
I love the look of this bike, but I can’t justify replacing my ‘18 SV650. I obviously enjoy the more classic look (example I do not like the look of a Yamaha MT bike), but you’re basically getting a better electronics package and not much else other than 5 horsepower. I don’t care about quickshifters etc. I’ve already upgraded to a JW Speaker LED headlight so I’m just not able to justify it (plus no local dealer makes ownership a pain in the a**). I would still love to ride one though, and that may change my mind!
You seem to stuck with MT-07 over this bike. MT-07 is probably better in term or performance or technical spec, but it looks like any other naked bike on the road, nothing special to me. While this Trident has awesome design and it stands out from the crowd. To me, that is worth more than anything else.
It needs bar ends. I really like this bike , my heart is set on the Speed Twin , but maybe I'm meant to get two new bikes ? I'll have to consult The Oracle...
Can I ask how you're letting off the throttle and doing stuff with your hands for the video and your bike isn't slowing way tf down? I have a ninja 650 and say in 3rd gear at 35, if I roll off even slightly or take my hand off the bike engine breaks to like a stop. (Exaggerated but not really) I saw at like 8:40 you took your hands off and the bike was still coasting at like 35mph. I'm new to riding so it's probably something with the gearing I'm not understanding but idk I wanted to ask!
Prolly cruising at 6th or 5th, and triples, generally speaking, would give you a smoother engine breaking in comparison to a 180° twin that you have
Kawis and especially the 650s and older 500s have INTENSE engine braking. Most parallel twins do, but kawis are extreme
No hate but this guy pretty much talks negative on any bike that isnt one he owns lol
He talks negatively about bikes he owns too. Every bike has positives and negatives. Some is objective, and some is subjective.
I'd much rather this than the typical journalist review that has little to no criticisms because of all the amenities that the manufacturer gave them before and/or during the review
I respect spite’s opinion more because he’s willing to shit on a toilet. Wise man say “if it’s where you should be shitting, shit”
He doesn't like motorcycles.

I think the H-D Softail Standard is an excellent beginner or commuter bike.
Bike could use a windshield and bags. Bike needs a cruise control installed. Very stable and lots of torque. Handles nice for a Harley.
Edit: I almost forgot the thing gets 50 MPG.
I agree with the commuter part, 50 mpg sounds like a stretch maybe if your really conservative on the throttle and keep the engine bone stock no slip ons or anything, my sportster started sucking down the gas like chocolate milk after a stage one
@@somebiker3459 , it is completely stock. I’ve been real careful and got 53 MPG on a group ride. I’m dying to at least put pipes on it because it sounds like a Honda, but the mileage will go out the window.
