I love when Joel hugged Ellie at the end and called her "baby girl". Shows how he sees Ellie sort of like Sarah. Also, Bella Ramsey has been playing human fear and shock so incredibly well. The thousand yard stare, the stiff body language, the seemingly involuntary vocal cry... it's such a realistic depiction of someone being traumatized over and over until they reach a breaking point.

@@bmac6517 But fortunately the Emmys and other awards appreciate HBO and the show has had more drama than terror, if they do not nominate the show or any of the actors it will be an inconceivable robbery.
@@bmac6517 I've heard that Mike Flanagan might be looking at Pedro Pascal to play Roland the Gunslinger in his upcoming adaptation of Stephen Kings epic The Dark Tower series. Pedro would be perfect for the role. It's actually very similar to the role of Joel, the hard ass, lone wolf who takes in a cub and goes on a journey. In that sense, it's also pretty similar to his role on the Mandalorian. In the Mandalorian he's basically a space Gunslinger. I just hope that Pedro doesn't get typecast.
I just love that Ellie does the one, simple thing that we ask of people in horror films: when you land that first strike, and the killer goes down, KEEP. HACKING. AWAY. Don’t flee until the job is done
One of many reasons I don't watch horror flicks. Other than they are not entertaining for me, I usually find the protaganists so stupid I start rooting for the bad guy/monster etc .
Joel’s interrogation scene was adapted so well. You could tell how angry he was in the first game but Pedro really sells the anger and desperation Joel was feeling to get Ellie back.
I had to listen to his dialog again because , I swear, he used a little bit of game Joel voice in this performance. It's kinda funny too that live action Elie killed game Joel.
I really like how when Ellie first talks with David when holding him at gunpoint, you can see how she's trying to seem and sound more intimidating, and how heavy the gun felt in her hands.
As someone who hasn't played the game, as relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. That guy was a monster. Overall, another great episode. Can't wait for the big finale and your reaction to it.
Yeah, a lot of people will be so busy cheering her on, they forget there's a price involve in taking a life. As any soldier who has seen action can attest!
Is not just the fact that Pedro and Bella are so good at their roles, but all the cast has been delivering fantastic performances every episode. this consistency is rare. So, in the end they make the story captivating even thou you have played the game (a solid script is part of the mix too).
God damn, dude. Literally every episode has been a tear jerker for me. Such deep shit. This one especially. The ending got me. The preacher trying to rape Ellie was fast, but you knew what happened, you can tell she was traumatized by that and it triggered her to chop that man up even more. The relief and heartbreak I felt when Joel finally popped up for Ellie. Ugh the "baby girl" from Joel!! Bella is doing an amazing job as Ellie.
That was the part that got me too. I think him trying that was what finally made her snap. And my heart shattered when Joel finally found her in the snow. I almost cried. I think him calling her baby girl hit hard because I’d seen the game version and knew the significance.
I'm convinced people who still cannot get behind the casting feel that way because they didn't get a more "attractive" actress to play a 14 year old and it really says a lot about them.
@@sirJames8 I've seen that exact reason as to why they don't like her brought up way too many times, especially the last eight weeks. It's absolutely disgusting. Heck, I saw someone last night say, "well she's 19 in real life and Ellie is 19 in Part 2, so she's just not pretty enough." Like, WTF?!?!?!?!
I can't be the only one who felt really sad when Ellie was chopping that guy up. So much anguish in her cries, and she's only 14 😢 she's been through so much for someone her age.
You're definitely not, I teared up in that moment. I was devastated for her that David had put her through what he did, that he was about to do to her what he was, and that he forced Ellie to hack him to death to avoid it. Any remaining innocence in Ellie is now surely destroyed. David was a monster.
When Joel Called Elle babygirl, I lost it. He had not called anyone baby girl since his daughter. Something broke inside elle, and hopefully she comes back from it. The dynamic between Joel and Elle is amazing.
since the start, bella ramsey has evidently, and effortlessly, proved just how phenomenal she is as ellie williams - every episode continues to prove that, and i truly and genuinely hope that ‘the last of us’ leads her to the emmy because she deserve it! ❤
That smile she had last week was sweet, innocent, and beautiful. The look on her face this week was the absolute opposite. Brutal and horrific. I know the episodes are different and pretty much unrelated, but I could practically feel the pain of her losing Riley in each chop and scream. That pain and her love for Joel will make her even stronger as time goes on.
The last scene where Ellie realizes it's Joel... Bella was incredible. I watched that part 3 times and damn. I got tears and I don't think I do that easily. Those few seconds where she almost laughed while crying and screaming was insanely good job from her.
Yeah even as a supporting character he's a beast. I mean it makes sense, if he can be amazing with just his voice it's not surprising he's an incredible talent on screen as well.
Bella Ramsey is unbelievably talented. I had never heard of The Last of Us, until about a month before it aired. The reason I decided to watch it was because I loved Pedro and Bella in GoT’s. I wasn’t expecting much because I am not a gamer, but holy shit y’all! This is my favorite show of 2023, and now I’m depressed because it’s over until at least late 2024, early 2025. I see both Pedro and Bella bringing home some trophies for this show. Also the dude who played David was amazing also. He was amazing playing a creeper. His performance left me feeling so dirty I had to shower. When Joel called Ellie baby girl, it broke me, because he called Sarah that in episode one. I don’t want Ellie to save the world I just want her and Joel to live happily ever after.
@@jacksonconley5117 before the show even aired, and even before principal photography, there were already shitty comments about her, like "I didn't know Ellie Downs," "Ellie is now ugly," and "A plane could land on her forehead." At that point, even though I only knew her from GOT, I wanted her to get nominated and hopefully win an Emmy just to shut those fuckers up. However, I'm not surprised she lost. The awards in Hollywood are basically a popularity contests, and since she doesn't have a big resume with only one standout performance, she wasn't going to get it.
"Fuckin' Bella dude." My thoughts exactly. Bella CARRIED. Like I can't see any other young actor giving such a brilliant performance. Perfect Ellie in my eyes.
This episode brings this other 'survival' mode we have. I resonated with Ellie so much, not as a 14-year-old girl but as a woman. So vulnerable. The position we encounter ourselves and her reactions and actions were SO real, the fear, anger, doing whatever you can to stay alive, being effin courageous even when she felt it was the end. Looking and even making resources out from wherever you can, even if they don't exist, you make them. I enjoyed seeing this Joel. And this breakthrough of Ellie, I kinda see a new version of Tessa coming to life. This ep was amazing
That's the importance of a good set up. They put everything in place for that scene to be so impactful! This show I swear! It is a masterclass in film making.
I am not a gamer., I'm a HBO original programming fan. I knew I was going to watch this show back when I was watching House of the Dragons. I saw the image of the Clicker and I was all in. And I have not been disappointed. This show, is so good! Bella and Pedro took it to another level in this episode. Plus, Joel called Ellie, Baby Girl! 😭

I'm a nurse. To answer your question about the the antibiotics, too much antibiotics can make you more resistant to them in the future. Penicillin is the first antibiotic discovered and can treat a wide range of infections. Her giving him so much was overall a good thing because if he was in a hospital with that bad of an infection he'd be on heavy IV antibiotics. Injecting it directly into the wound is helping fight the infection directly at the site and getting the antibiotics into his system as a whole quickly. If she'd given him a shot in the arm, that would have still worked though. The only faster way would be through IV, which is unavailable in this situation.
@@dramaticundertones5889 To make a full recovery he would need 7-10 days of antibiotics at least twice a day. But antibiotics tend to make your body feel a lot better in the first 48-72 hours. That's what gave him the energy to fight off the men who came to that house. Gotta finish out the antibiotics for a full recovery.
Is there anything more terrifying than someone bigger and stronger than you trying to rape you in a burning building? That sounds like a biblical description of hell.
didn't think this episode would get me to cry since this part didn't get me super emotional in the game, but i was bawling my eyes out in the end. it was also really nice to finally see troy baker. super excited for the finale
When Joel saw Ellie after she killed David, it made me think of the episode where he sympathized with Ellie in episode 4 (After she shot the kid). Joel was concerned about Ellie’s humanity and it breaking. In this episode, Ellie reached her breaking point.
This episode blew me away. Top-notch performance by Bella! Can't wait to see the season finale but also don't want it to end 😭 Another great reaction ❤
Bro the scene at the end where Ellie is leaving the burning building In shock and Joel comes up behind her I dead started crying. Her face when she saw it was him, him pulling her into a hug and calling her baby girl like he was her dad really killed me. It was so heartbreakingly beautiful
Well we finally got to see what Marlene meant when she said she knew what Joel was “capable of” and we saw a much more aggressive side to Ellie that some of us who played the game don’t see till we play as her or play the second game. Also it was nice seeing Troy Backer ( the voice for Joel in the game) make an appearance, he was James the guy that was always with the preacher David.
*Respect to Ellie for not leaving Joel, and, for trying to protect him when he was most vulnerable.* *It made the end of the episode -- when Joel called her "baby girl" like his daughter -- so much more emotional for me. Family is a precious thing.*
God this episode was stunning. Bella Ramsey deserves ALLLL the praise and accolades. They talked a bit about struggling to feel like they “were Ellie” but every week it’s been on full display how perfect the casting was. This episode was just the cherry on the cake of an incredible performance!!!
My husband and I have not played the game and every damn episode has killed it. I have cried on every one except one. The flow of the last one to this one was totally fine. I'm glad it showed Ellie deciding not to leave and stitching him up. I have seen ppl complaining and I'm like seriously?? Then they don't appreciate good tv.
This episode just about broke me. I thought I knew what to expect because of the game, but it was even more horrifying than in the game. The extra lines they added for David during the confrontation made my skin crawl and stomach turn. Not to mention Bella's screams; so unbelievably haunting. Couldn't hold back tears when Joel found Ellie. Outstanding performances from everyone involved!
I love you two, i don't know why, but every time i finish a big show episode i'm like " IS NIKKI AND STEVEN REACTING?" its just fun to watch, I watch all of these alone, so its cool to see other people and a couples reacting to what i find enjoyable. Thanks for keeping it up.
Yeah the dose would be a concern. Penicillin overdoses are rare, and the symptoms are typically a lot less severe than the infection, but it can go sideways pretty badly.

People complaining about Bella as Ellie... There is a word for them : IDIOTS. She's amazing, the anger, the despair, the rage, the sadness, the joy. She does it all flawlessly. WOW, just WOW !
When joel hugged her I was waiting for her "He was going to-" line from the game, but the stuttering and loss for words felt more than just acting. 100/10
@@Green-IV Exactly! She was in shock and words could not come out. Bella Ramsey really is one of the best actresses out there. I liked her since GoT. Her acting there was magnificent for a kid and reminded me of Kirsten Dunst in The Interview with the Vampire. I am so looking forward to her work in the future.
“Anyone who doesn’t agree with me: IDIOTS” she has been completely unbearable and unbelievable as Ellie up until this episode. This is the first time I’ve actually believed her as Ellie. People are allowed to criticise the portrayal of a character they like, guy
@@strider9184 except she's not the one deciding how Ellie is portrayed, she has to follow the script. She's different in the game and more "likeable" I agree, but it has nothing to do with her acting skills. She does what she's told and she does it well in my opinion.
I haven't ever seen a performance where I immediately was like, "this person deserves an Emmy!" Bella's performance in this episode, let alone the entire series, is beyond amazing.
I think Ellie had to be concussed after falling off the horse. I haven't played the game, but David's focus on Ellie staying alive, especially when his group was in desperate need of food felt like a big ole red flag for his intentions. Joel really kicked ass, but Ellie killing David was the best death of the episode. I wanted to vomit when David was talking to her in the cage. So much more disgusting to me than the actual cannibalism (in survival situations, already dead people would be an upsetting option, but an option). And of course, when Ellie and Joel were back together and he called her baby girl, I felt like crying. Joel is her safe place. Bella and Pedro do a fantastic job of conveying that together. They're great all around.
Joel when Ellie is around be like "excuse me sir in the cabin and funny lady, could you point to where we are?" Joel without Ellie "point or I´ll pop you knee cap off and feed it to you friend"
Baby Girl... Heart explodes and I drown in tears. 😭 And I am a show only viewer and the flow, characters and plot have been fantastic to me. No complaints except I want more than 9 episodes.
As if there weren't enough proof already, THIS episode is proof that Bella Ramsey was expertly cast in this show!! Plus, I screamed when Joel came "back", his survival instinct is so strong, but his protective instincts are MUCH stronger, I just love him, Pedro is perfection. THEN, Ellie saves herself, which is so awesome, and THEN Joel calls her "baby girl", which just ended me. I was done by the end of this episode. SO upset we only have one more left and will will have to wait forever for the next season.
Best episode from Bella by far. The ramping up of the intensity throughout that whole situation was insane. With Joel going ham on those two dudes and then Ellie butchering that creepy SOB, that shit was was brutal AF. BTW, I'm a non player of the game but really looking forward to the upcoming PC release.

Not only was this one of the best episodes but also Bella Ramsey’s greatest performance too as she gave it her all in those scenes, especially near the end. Hope she wins an Emmy because she’s killing it!
She was shockingly good...
She won't they don't respect horror for some reason because Mike Flannigan and his cast would have many Emmys.

Fun Fact: The guy playing James in this episode is the real voice actor for Joel in the video game.
Joel's physical actions were mocapped from Troy so it's much more than just voice acting
No shit sherlock
I had to listen to his dialog again because , I swear, he used a little bit of game Joel voice in this performance. It's kinda funny too that live action Elie killed game Joel.
I knew that was Troy!
He must of really changed his voice to me more grizzly then for the game because I did not hear Joel’s voice from him.
Pretty good voice acting
I really like how when Ellie first talks with David when holding him at gunpoint, you can see how she's trying to seem and sound more intimidating, and how heavy the gun felt in her hands.
The show runner said that was a real unloaded gun the Bella did have to struggle holding. He said the next day her arms and pecs hurt.
Her voice sounded so different, really deep like she was trying to be aggressive. Amazing acting.
@@nancyscogin7549 She said it hurt to hold it in the snow for minutes because it was so cold
@@casie6609 YES , she was deepening her voice at the beginning. If it hadn't been a life and death situation, I would have thought it was cute. LOL!
@@catherinesanchez1185 agreed!!
3 and 7 were kinda meh to me

Bella Ramsey is fantastic, her casting is perfect and I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
I'm convinced people who still cannot get behind the casting feel that way because they didn't get a more "attractive" actress to play a 14 year old and it really says a lot about them.
Initially, I had questions about her casting, but I have no doubts now, she is perfect.
Agreed!
Exactly. THIS is why she was casted as Ellie and fuck people who say otherwise.
I can't be the only one who felt really sad when Ellie was chopping that guy up. So much anguish in her cries, and she's only 14 😢 she's been through so much for someone her age.

OMG I broke down crying for Ellie. As a woman, as a fan, as a human being.
since the start, bella ramsey has evidently, and effortlessly, proved just how phenomenal she is as ellie williams - every episode continues to prove that, and i truly and genuinely hope that ‘the last of us’ leads her to the emmy because she deserve it!
David - "You know what I see when I look at you?"
Nikki - "Lunch?"
That timing was perfect 😂
The last scene where Ellie realizes it's Joel... Bella was incredible. I watched that part 3 times and damn. I got tears and I don't think I do that easily. Those few seconds where she almost laughed while crying and screaming was insanely good job from her.
Really hope to see Troy Baker in more live action roles. Such an charismatic actor.
Yeah even as a supporting character he's a beast. I mean it makes sense, if he can be amazing with just his voice it's not surprising he's an incredible talent on screen as well.
Too bad he's transphobic
@@lalaland12 Oh here we go.
It's not over yet, the season finale is on March 12th. Then it's depression time

“Its okay baby girl” had me tearing up. She ain’t just cargo anymore, that’s his purpose in life.
Give all the awards to Bella. Her rawness and emotion in her acting is mind-blowing.
Bella has been predicted to get an Emmy nominated for her role as Ellie. her performance in this episode probably just cemented it.
I’m glad Bella got nominated for an Emmy, but I was disappointed that she didn’t win. At least she’ll have more chances in the years to come.
It’s the fact that the 45 second scene at the end had me bawling on a DIME
That's the importance of a good set up. They put everything in place for that scene to be so impactful! This show I swear! It is a masterclass in film making.
Oh same! That scene where Joel comes up behind her to the end is the one that’s sticking with me. And the last one with David.
What are your thoughts of the lack of Clickers? Being a gamer I'm a bit disappointed. I wanted to see more of those monsters in the show.

It’s HBO, they can do whatever they want really.
That being said the camera panned away from the actual gore, it was only gruesome because of how amazing good the acting was.
Did you not watch GoT or House of the Dragon? Or Euphoria, for that matter? This is nothing new for HBO shows.
The part that made me gag a little was the headless bodies .....*cough* .

Was his recovery realistic?
@@dramaticundertones5889 To make a full recovery he would need 7-10 days of antibiotics at least twice a day. But antibiotics tend to make your body feel a lot better in the first 48-72 hours. That's what gave him the energy to fight off the men who came to that house. Gotta finish out the antibiotics for a full recovery.
The ending was straight up horror movie intense. That ending with Joel and Eille was very sweet and nice
They are doing an amazing job with this show. Performances are everything!!
I love the shift in tone where Nikki was like "Yes Ellie get it!.... i mean...uh..."
The trauma in her scream from Henry’s death still haunts me but not like her screams from this episode. She deserves all the awards!
*Respect to Ellie for not leaving Joel, and, for trying to protect him when he was most vulnerable.*
*It made the end of the episode -- when Joel called her "baby girl" like his daughter -- so much more emotional for me. Family is a precious thing.*
And at the end she kills "Joel" aka Troy Baker, they shouldn't done him like that. But we know Naughty Dogs mindset, sadly!
God this episode was stunning. Bella Ramsey deserves ALLLL the praise and accolades. They talked a bit about struggling to feel like they “were Ellie” but every week it’s been on full display how perfect the casting was. This episode was just the cherry on the cake of an incredible performance!!!
Gotta love what the show did with Troy Baker in this episode.
David: You know what I see when I look at you?

My husband and I have not played the game and every damn episode has killed it. I have cried on every one except one. The flow of the last one to this one was totally fine. I'm glad it showed Ellie deciding not to leave and stitching him up.

The guy that got cleaved in the neck is the voice/MoCap actor for Joel in the video games.
The moment they shot Ellie's horse my immediate thought when watching was "I know Nikki's not gonna like that"
I love you two, i don't know why, but every time i finish a big show episode i'm like " IS NIKKI AND STEVEN REACTING?" its just fun to watch, I watch all of these alone, so its cool to see other people and a couples reacting to what i find enjoyable. Thanks for keeping it up.
Nikki: " yeah yeah yeah yeah venison my ass literally you're eating ass" 😂 I laughed so hard make that a meme Steven
Yeah the dose would be a concern. Penicillin overdoses are rare, and the symptoms are typically a lot less severe than the infection, but it can go sideways pretty badly.
"Supplies!" was the punch line to one of the funniest jokes I heard around 30 years ago but I don't remember the whole joke anymore.😄
That’s around the timeline that UHF was released. That was the Weird Al movie from the late 80s. In that movie, there were some Japanese karate guys that jumped out of a supplies closet and yelled that word as a joke of how their accent might say surprise.

I love that they gave Troy Baker a role in this just like they did with Tommy’s voice actor.
The voice over of joel is davids friend, it’s incredible that they have been giving them all the chance to experience the world from the game!
Joel when Ellie is around be like "excuse me sir in the cabin and funny lady, could you point to where we are?"
Joel without Ellie "point or I´ll pop you knee cap off and feed it to you friend"
Baby Girl...
Heart explodes and I drown in tears. 😭
And I am a show only viewer and the flow, characters and plot have been fantastic to me.
