IF BELLA DOESN'T WIN AN EMMY I WILL BE FURIOUS. Their acting was amazing, the screaming??!😭😭😭😭 how did they do it to make it more shattering than the game?
she was like 18 or 19 when she acted for the show and yet she still embodies a 14 year old EXACTLY how a real teenager that age is. there are more mature ones, more childish ones, she looks like the actual person she would be in that situation. Bella is next level.
They somehow did it. This was the episode I was the most excited for from the moment the show was announced. They hit everything perfectly, Scott Shepard was phenomenal as David I almost found him creepier than the game version. Bella's acting when chopping him up sent chills down my spine just a fantastic episode. Cannot wait for the finale.
The one line i missed in the interrogation scene was “she’s David’s newest pet”. I liked that it set up a pattern of behavior from David and what he’s doing to Ellie isn’t random. It also shows how his inner circle is turning a blind eye like they do with the cannibalism. However that one line isn’t enough to take away from how amazing this episode is!!!
Yeah definitely, and it kinda helps justify Joel brutally murdering both of them after getting the info he wants. Hearing *that* and knowing that the two men tied up in front of you were involved in it happening would leave 0 remorse in your heart to do what he did. But the show also does alot more to humanize some of the groups and them saying that would probably change our perception of the whole group to "starving misguided christians looking for a leader" to child kidnapping murderer cannibals. Troy's character saying "We can let her go but we can't take her in" shows the only one who had those kinds of intentions were David himself.
As a person who doesn't know anything about the game I wish there had been more hints that David has done this before and that's why he got interested in Ellie. When he was determined to save her and have her join him I had no idea why until he said that line about spreading. That line about her being her new pet I think would have made it all make more sense for me.
You can tell they don’t approve what David does because they tried to kill Ellie instead of taking her. So bragging about her fate wouldn’t match that scene.
I think that’s why they added David’s line “the fighting is the part I like the most…”. Shows it’s clearly not his first time. And the fact he used to be a teacher before the outbreak…EXTRA YUCK
Also really loved how Pedro’s Joel showed flashes of the savage brutal badassery that Joel had from the first game in this episode. He nailed that scene where he interrogated and brutally killed two of David’s men after finding out from them where Ellie went.
I like how the show showed Joel struggling why’ll fighting the guys he’s still not 100% healed. In the game they show it a little when he first exits the house but after that he’s back to killing people with no issues. The show kept that up all the way through. Little things I appreciate
Also the David mission from the first game is still an intense mission for me to this day because you’re playing as Ellie who’s 14 and hiding from an unpredictable terrifying psychopath like David who could predict movements and is hunting you like a serial killer. From Ellie’s perspective it’s beyond terrifying because Joel would’ve had no problem taking David out but with you playing as Ellie in that moment, it felt like a horror film in terms of the hopeless situation.
I have such a hard time playing that section 😭 first time I got to it my heart was racing and I was dead ass kind of shaking. I love replaying it until I get to that part because I am a ⭐️weenie⭐️
I mean, age is irrelevant here. I was already much taller and bigger than David at that age. The fact that she's a tiny girl makes it terrifying, many of the moves she pulled to beat the cannibals wouldn't have worked in real life.
@@helloneighbour2408 Same with how she offed David, you don't really have the leverage to significantly hurt someone with a butcher's knife lying down like that. Thing must've been sharper than a lightsaber lmao
I remember David being the big bad guy in the 1st game. But the live action conflict between these two is terrifying. Especially when he attempted to sexually assault her in the end there. PS: I had the same exact look of disgust on my face when he was on top, taunting her
The only time I recoiled in horror and disgust was when David touched her hand. The torture, the slaughtering of David, that was fine, the hand touching I wanted to retch.
I appreciate that in the show they didn't just imply that David was a pedophile, that way despite having relatively short screen time, they manage to make us see him as an actual monster of the worst kind. Also once the episode was over it hit me: he used to be a teacher, kids about Ellie's age. Yikes.
the only reason this has worked for tlou is because tlou is basically a story driven game and its much more easier since the story and planwork has already been done for you
I think it’s safe to say that this should be the standard for game adaptations. It is also proof that adaptions can work very well and bring a new audience
Adaptations were always possible but the moment Hollywood execs strayed from a perfectly good game script it’s where they don fuck up. Scott Pilgrim was the only really good video game adaptation until the Last of Us. The resident evil series strayed all the way to Jupiter aside from having iconic Monsters and Characters from the series. Silent Hill had the atmosphere down but the script was complete off due to the Directors creative perspective missing the whole point of the story.
The whole David story hit home. His pitch to her was so similar to every pitch that’s ever been from every groomer. Him calling her a c*nt after she rejects him, his rage at being humiliated, at her being ‘special’ when he isn’t, how easily he contradicts himself, it’s all always the same and I love how honest this portrayal was. The absolute shocking contrast when she stumbled into Joel was like walking into another dimension, it devastated me. The purity outside the fire, the fire that lies and tells you it’s cleansing as it destroys you, when the world is full of water if you could just get away.
It amazes me so far into this show, how much has Bella brought Ellies entire charazation masterfully to life, just straight up carries every single performance that even closely captures the portray that Ashley Johnson delivered in her first debute
From her seeing Henry shoot himself to this episode, Bella has been portraying such gut-wrenching fear and emotions so genuinely it's heartbreaking, even though all we see her do is just scream.
Another phenomenal episode. That guy who played David absolutely brought that character to life too. Wish we got a little bit more of the blizzard and Joel fighting in it, but I get why they had to cut it. This series has been some of the best television I’ve watched in a while. Bella continues to show off her acting skills with such a wide range of emotion. I’m not ready for the finale next week or for this show to be done.
@@XxBlade.88401 No, i know its in the game and all, but it just feels unnecessary for 2 entire episodes of a 9 episode season to be devoted to a --- relationship - would still be upset if a entire episode was based around a straight relationship. Both just boring

Bella Ramsey is amazing!!! They really acted their ass off this episode. David was even worse than I expected. It really felt like watching the game everything was so good. Can’t wait for the finale!!
Another example of the phenomenal writing of this show is the line “Don’t fall asleep!” when Ellie leaves Joel. Calls back to when he fell asleep on watch and also when he didn’t hear when Sam and Henry snuck up on them AND when Ellie fell asleep when Sam turned. Joel didn’t fall asleep this time and came to save Ellie when she needed him. So many layers!
My favorite moments are when she layed down on his chest & he leaned on her. And when he embraced her at the end & said the EXACT same thing, he said to Sarah, "it's alright, baby girl."
MANNNN. I teared up at their reunion at the end. Hearing him say "its okay baby girl" was like the official "you're my daughter now" moment for me. Another amazing episode. note: theres also a small set design fail when Joel is interrogating the two guys, the "snow" can be seen as just a carpet under the guy on the floor lol not a complaint just cool little mess up
I love how much they emphasize how manipulative David is to everyone around him. In the game they show it with how he talks to Ellie, but we barely see him interact with anyone else
This is the episode I was waiting for from the start & it didn’t disappoint, it delivered big time, there’s only two things I needed, Joel torturing fools & baby girl, got them both, this show just delivers every week.
I loved this episode! The end really put it over the edge for me. My dad passed away almost 4 years ago and he also used to call me babygirl all the time. Pedro’s delivery of the line “it’s ok babygirl” was absolutely perfection and I truly feel so comforted hearing him say that and I could listen to him say it 100 times as weird as it might seem. I loved Pedro before this but even more so now ❤. The trauma Ellie has been through is wild & I’m very interested is seeing how she develops from here cause I felt every bit of that terror when David had her pinned😩 poor Ellie, you can see how messed she was after that. Kudos Bella, you did amazing this episode!
How I went into this episode knowing everything that was going to happen yet I was STILL holding my breath and at the edge of my seat during the last 10 minutes I don't even know. My heart literally dropped to my stomach hearing Bella's screams... this episode was phenomenal
Holy shit, this episode may have well jumped to as my favorite episode of the season right now and that’s with incredible episodes before. Troy as James was nice to see as well as David too and the episode was like one to one from the game. Bella and Pedro still solidify their statuses 💯
Fantastic episode, fantastic acting, absolutely phenomenal. HOWEVER I would like to point out that I died laughing during the credits when I looked up and I saw “caterer”
One thing I love - is how in episode 6 we see Joel in a very vulnerable spot, and in this episode we see the flip side of that. The duality is amazing.
This was the episode I was dreading the most, because if they’ve managed to make the show as dark as they have then how dark were they gonna make the *DARKEST* part of the game. And yeah, they did not hold back. They made David in his last minutes even more disturbing than the game made him. And when David tells Ellie that she has a violent heart he had NOOOO idea. I would honestly put her near the top of the list of the most dangerous people in tv or video games. But that scene of Joel hugging Ellie and calling her baby girl still hits hard. Also I kinda wished that Troy Baker was cast as someone far more important than James. Still he was amazing and he had an awesome death scene.
Bella, I can not stress enough, killed this episode. This one belonged to her. When she’s hacking away at David you can feel the fear, anger and trauma in that brutal scene 😢
This sequence as they are about to kill Ellie and the way she escapes from Troy Baker and Scott Shepard's characters so badass. Ellie really shows she can be dangerous just like Joel.
What an episode David was just as creepy as he was in the game Troy did a fantastic job in live action Even more excited to see Ashley in the last episode going to miss this show
This episode was perfect. 10/10 for me and my 2nd favorite episode... it had everything I wanted to see from Joel's interrogation to Ellie breaking David's finger and the baby girl at the end
This episode was crazy, amazing & scary - let me tell you when you have the will to live, that adrenaline rush kicks in, it’s no joke! Bella was absolutely amazing. I was so scared for her. I noticed when the town folk & preacher were talking about the food supply & when they were in the kitchen and the woman looked at the meat & asked what’s this I thought that was weird to ask - then when Joel saw the hanging “meat” to actually be humans - so you think that maybe all this time when they go out they can’t catch animals so instead they’ll just get humans?!
I'm pretty confident this episode was filmed in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, a place that's only an hour away from where I live. It was awesome recognizing different locations. Fantastic episode
Bella’s acting in this episode was phenomenal. Her scenes with David were so intense and those ten seconds where she was looking at Joel said so much, you could see everything she went through from her facial expressions alone.
What an episode where Bella Ramsey gets to shine and pretty much becomes Joel in a way showing how dangerous she can be. It's Waco meets 24 when watching the latest episode.
Little upset that Joel didn't come in to stop Ellie when she was hacking away at David but overall still amazing fucking show. I also wish they let James be the dude who Joel interrogates so they could let them share a scene together
I think it’s a little thing but I think it was better she walked out in a daze not fully understanding what just happened. Survival instinct kicked in then when she walks out and Joel touched her you could see she was still in that state.
The episode finishes airing in England at 3.05, that's in 1 minute. The credits rolled about 2 mins ago, and your reaction is already up. Getting your videos up faster than Joel got up to save himself
This episode was so great and powerful. Great reaction guys. And man is Bella amazing in this episode. I wanted to jump in and give her a hug after the traumatic experience she went through. I also thought the way she killed David in the show was more brutal than the game because in this episode she hacks him in the face almost nonstop whereas in the game, Joel comes in earlier and stops Ellie from going overboard with hacking David’s face to death. Great reaction guys!
For info to Andrew's question, Craig Mazin already kinda confirmed that comes season 2, that they would split the 2nd game in half. Also establishing there would be a 3rd season
I know that this video has already 1 moth old but did you know that that last shot (the one that Bella comes out from the restaurant) was active the first to be shot? this fact always gets me and the world deserve to know :)
The fact that they were able to put all of that in one episode and it didn't feel rushed AT ALL. I know that was allot of fans concern about how they'd do this with only two episodes left and my goodness they did it. It was hard to watch that final seen but man they delivered.
Also in case you never knew from the game, the guy who voiced David in the first game was Nolan North who voiced Nathan Drake in the Uncharted games. It’s insanely amazing how he was able to go from Nathan Drake and play an unpredictable terrifying psychopath like David. It blew my mind when I looked it up.
They filmed this episode at waterton lakes National park in Alberta. My in laws live just outside it. They were visiting one evening not knowing they were filming and actually called the cops because they kept seeing vandalized cars hahaha
I swear at 24:19 and on Bella transforms into Ashley Johnson. Something about her expression and the lighting just made her *bang!* look like Ashley Johnson to me.
@@Erina_Artemis I think there’s a possibility they’d choose it because it’s a big Ellie focus episode. But I think I would go for this one too, or possibly next weeks but probably this weeks
Might be my favorite and least favorite episode so far🤣. It's fully game accurate, Troy Baker's role was great, David's actor was perfection, the torture scene with Joel was INCREDIBLE and they got all the emotions and trauma across beautifully... but that was also one of the hardest things I've ever watched on TV haha.

Just because I've experienced a lot of that stuff doesn't mean that it hits me any less. I like letting it hit me and feeling empathy for Ellie.

The one hope was that Joel would be badass in this episode. In my opinion, because of how he is literally just coming to moments before taking out the first guy - as opposed to the game where he initially gets full strength to take them on outside - he is even more badass here.
"It's okay, Babygirl" That broke me. Because this is the first time you see Joel be this vulnerable with Ellie. We haven't seen that Joel since Sarah died in his arms. Such a touching moment between the two. And I really feel this is the episode Bella earned her wings. The pure rage she let out on David, with the fire burning in the background - was so good. This was a slow burn episode, but so well done. Masterful cinematography as well. Truly sets the stage for the finale. Overall, this was an excellent episode.
We finally got Daddy Joel officially back, but it was sad what happened with Elle had to go down to get him there. Happy that David got a big helping of karma later on. This episode hit me in the heart at the end after everything that happened. Also you could tell the ones that knew what they were eating and the ones that didn't. The ones that knew were looking at the food in a weird way. The ones that didn't look at the food weirdly were going to town eating it cause they didn't know. They have the Abby and Joel story happen no earlier than the middle of Season 2 or at the end of the season if there's enough stuff in the second game to draw it out. Enjoyed the reaction. 👍👍✌ out
Absolutely loved the episode. I thought they nailed it. Also really cool to recognize so many of the filming locations from Waterton Park. Visit that site with the family every summer.

They hit everything perfectly, Scott Shepard was phenomenal as David I almost found him creepier than the game version. Bella's acting when chopping him up sent chills down my spine just a fantastic episode. Cannot wait for the finale.

This show is a complete dumpster fire. After episodes 3 and 7, I am not watching this show again. The finale won't be good!
@@minafrota6124 agree to disagree
@@minafrota6124 At least try to mix up the material. You're boring your audience. You really need to step up your propaganda game.
I didn't even notice it wasn't said lol, I think I was too immersed in everything else
This talk of Joel being soft lol. He's always been what he needed it to be based on the situation.
As someone who’s never played the game, what an episode was this!

@@minafrota6124 Why are you putting this comment on every single post?
Right? The fact he was pedo. Oof
@@anitaremenarova6662 yeah the way she killed David's right hand man was a bit unbelievable in that position. But hey, show/game logic
Yikes.
I think it was kinda implied that he was trying to in the game but it’s kinda easy to not realize that. The show just made it more obvious

I just hope they don't mess up season 2
Adaptations were always possible but the moment Hollywood execs strayed from a perfectly good game script it’s where they don fuck up. Scott Pilgrim was the only really good video game adaptation until the Last of Us. The resident evil series strayed all the way to Jupiter aside from having iconic Monsters and Characters from the series. Silent Hill had the atmosphere down but the script was complete off due to the Directors creative perspective missing the whole point of the story.
Other than them removing the spores and changing how the virus works. They shouldn’t have done that. Their reasoning is shit.
@@PrincessAnime172 Scott Pilgrim was an adaptation of the comics, not the game. They are separate.
@@oraclescrolls still they adapted it pretty well
oh my god I was holding back tears at “it’s okay baby girl”

YES ANS YES!!!! So brilliant!
Ahh this comment right here man! 👏🏽
Really loved it that Ellie saved herself, and Joel didn't 'save' her physically, but emotionally. So so important. Acting by everyone was on point!
I came here to comment the exact same thing!! It’s so awesome to show how the emotional support of Joel is just as important ❤
Still he was amazing and he had an awesome death scene.
oh i love how fast you guys are with these
24:10 love how u both r swinging your heads back & forth while Ellie is chopping away Js lol
This was so unfair. You know how many times I died by David’s hands in that resort 😂
You an me both brother
Bella, I can not stress enough, killed this episode. This one belonged to her. When she’s hacking away at David you can feel the fear, anger and trauma in that brutal scene 😢
I also loved how we saw more of David’s group because it added more context and the fact there were kids there made it more disturbing.

Really solid comparison there.
*Joel in a way showing how dangerous he can be.
I also realized that they ate that girl’s father, because David said that the snow was to thick to dig into, that is sick man
Little upset that Joel didn't come in to stop Ellie when she was hacking away at David but overall still amazing fucking show. I also wish they let James be the dude who Joel interrogates so they could let them share a scene together
I think it’s a little thing but I think it was better she walked out in a daze not fully understanding what just happened. Survival instinct kicked in then when she walks out and Joel touched her you could see she was still in that state.
Bella! Wtf, she was awesome, the screams and absolute terror, she portrayed it so well, and omg “baby girl” 💕

The fact that they were able to put all of that in one episode and it didn't feel rushed AT ALL. I know that was allot of fans concern about how they'd do this with only two episodes left and my goodness they did it. It was hard to watch that final seen but man they delivered.

Joel and Ellie were savages. Loved it...
We finally got Daddy Joel officially back, but it was sad what happened with Elle had to go down to get him there. Happy that David got a big helping of karma later on.
