Ellie killing David didn't even feel like a win. It just genuinely felt like a watching a kid full of fear trying to survive and it absolutely broke my heart... What an absolutely fantastic episode.

Yes when people get excited and start clapping and smile and love it..... I get it. That's how I feel for the first two chops. But after that I'm just horrified and heartbroken.

The most interesting part is Bella filmed the AFTERMATH of that scene FIRST and still NAILED the emotion when she felt safe in Joel's arms
Troy Baker was so excited when offered the part of 'James'. When he got the call he thought he would play some random Clicker 😂
This episode shows us what Marlene meant when she said she knew what Joel was 'Capable of.' He was so afraid he lost his edge, but when the chips are down Joel at 10% is better than most people at 100.
When you thought you heard an infected, it was just the deer. Animal calls can be creepy when you don't know them: A kangaroo sounds like a man coughing, scares the daylights out of campers and hikers in Australia the first time they hear it, as you'll wake in the middle of the night thinking there's someone outside your tent.
"I'm not crying, are you crying?" It's The Last of Us, everyone's crying.
Deer actually make that noise when digging through brush/fallen branches with their antlers. They'll also smack branches to knock down acorns, pine cones, or nuts/fruit. And it sounds pretty similar to the noise in the game, though they definitely modded the sound to make it closer to the Clicker noise, to fake us out.

The actor who played James is the voice and motion capture of Joel in the games and on the finale the pregnant lady is Ellie

i loooove that you both fell immediately into what craig and neil wanted. the audience assumed joel would rescue ellie - but she can save herself. they did so well misdirecting and guiding the audience with the cuts to joel
Is that supposed to be a good thing? Ellie saving herself and not Joel doing it isn't good. She's now traumatized

@@アキコ2003 well yeah, it's not supposed to be an amazing thing - but it's media. it depicts horrible things all the time. look at horror and thriller. this is just another aspect of that. but truthfully, according to both creators in the behind the scenes, it's to show that no one but ellie is ever going to be able to save her. no spoilers, but that's quite telling. so. yeah. it is sad, it is terrifying but that's the world. and that also bleeds into our own world.
I was excited for this episode. One of the best sequences in the game that lead to one of the most brutal ending sequences of the game.
Also, the heavy implication that they're not only confirmed cannibals but they probably fed that girl's father to her is an insane addition.
In the university section in the game, Joel would often state his dislike of the name of the horse they were on. They didn't ask tommy the horse's name so Ellie named him Callus.
So, Troy Baker (the actor who played Joel in the games) played James in this episode, David's right hand man. And he shoots Ellie's horse (not given a name, but it is supposed to be Callus).
Finally, after all these years, Joel got his revenge on Callus lol
David viscerally scared me SO much every time he was on screen. Props to the actor

I mean, it's actually been proven that penicillin in the affected area actually does promote better healing so ^^; nothing bad about it (except the pain it would cause Joel to feel the pressure on his wound but he's knocked out)

I mean yeah, something you inject into you absorbs into the cells of the area you stick it in first, unless it's delivered IV and carried directly into the bloodstream

They made sure Ellie slashed long enough for us to go from “get him Ellie” to “ugh it’s hard to watch”.
I was bawling at the end of this one.. it’s solidified now more than ever that Joel has taken on the role of Ellie’s dad. She didn’t correct anyone who called him her father this time. Him calling her baby girl like he did Sarah. It was all just so sweet.
At first I felt that they were just going with a typical bad religious person doing bad stuff but eventually it was revealed that he was a schoolteacher and that makes it extra creepy.

This was a dark episode but Ellie kicked ass in this one.
If this is your first time watching this story, I highly recommend watching this episode again knowing they’re cannibals. It adds such a layer of intensity that was expertly handled

what personally really got me, was the fact that David told us he was a teacher before. A teacher of young girls. He always had a violent heart and his favourit part was always the fight. That piece of sh*t probably assaulted his students before everything went down.
The fact that David reaching for his zipper is what allowed Ellie to grab the clever is such an amazing detail. Dude was thinking with the wrong head and it got him killed. I also feel like a lot of reactors miss that fact that David was feeding the little girl he pimp slapped her dead father.

Bridget was correct, in that Ellie probably should have read the bottle on the penicillin because it typically provides the instructions for route of administration which I'm pretty sure would have administer intravascularly (i.e. by vein) and not subcutaneously as Ellie decided to do.
Assuming the label on the bottle is still readable.

I really enjoy watching people react that have played the game. And I love all the talk of Joel saving Ellie. That’s the beauty of The Last Of Us. Ellie is a strong survivor despite her age.

Which was an HBO mandate to introduce Ellie in the 1st episode. And also probably why the flashback w Tess & her family's background during the outbreak got cut out of the show.

This whole season is the first Last of Us game :) obviously not everything in the game is in the show and some stuff was changed a bit. can't wait to see you play the game!
I think there was originally 10 episodes but they combined the first 2.
24:30 - This season is covering the entire first game (the last episode even adapted the DLC). Now...there is a five year gap between the end of the first game and the majority of the second. So the next few seasons they will have free range to completely open up the story and the world (with the exception of some very important flashbacks) so even people who have played the games won't know what's going to happen. (I don't think they are going to jump straight into the second game. At least I hope not.)

yes structurally this is exactly the game. this whole portion with meeting david and his crew is what happens right before you get to the ending section of the first game. so they’re following the timeline of events extremely closely episode to episode

This series was filmed in Alberta Canada. For some ungodly reason, they filmed this particular episode, outside, in February... I'm guessing no one consulted the locals about temperatures cause they froze their arses off. 😄 (Outdoor filming in Feb in Alberta. SMH. 😂)

Not sure if were getting a cliffhanger or the ending of the first game next week. Either way this season is the story of the first game (part one) and the next season (or likely two) will be the story of the second game (part two).

the entire first season is the first game. we are led to assume season 2 will be the second game. since there is no third game that means either they won't have a season 3, or they will start making up original stories.
Nah, the second game is about 30 hours. It will take 2 or 3 seasons to tell that story.

So excited for y’all to play the game as well! Personally, I prefer the game over the show. Not to say the show isn’t good though! I’m loving the show overall and this was a fantastic episode. Overall, I’m trending at a 9/10 while the game is a 10/10 to me but idk to me it’s hard to match the intensity of actually being in the drivers seat as the character. It just makes everything more impactful to me since you’re controlling the character

haha we were going to when it launched on pc, then everyone said it was far too buggy. but we're going full time on the channel very soon and its our first big full game we plan to start plaing on live streams soon! (i'm pretty sure the pc version of the game has been patched enough by this point lol)
