I saw a girl get knocked unconscious in a pit at the last metal show I went to. The whole pit INSTANTLY stopped and basically crowd surfed her body to security who set her down in a chair off to the side of the venue. Saw her later talking to one of the bands.
You don't get that level of comradery at a pop concert.
But in same time, you cant get knocked unconscious in pop concert :D
@@Vukf1 You can probably either drunkenly faint or pass ooutit from other causes and likely be ignored
I've had something similar happen to me. Now mind, I wasn't unconcious, but I rolled my ankle like a sumbitch (I was pretty drunk) and had four motherfuckers take me up under the knees and shoulders and cart me off to the tent.
Lol. Kinda reminds me when I was in a pit and got a noodle leg and went down hard. Instantly was helped up.
@@Vukf1 that's why it isn't fun : p
Metal music is a lot like trying hot sauce, you don't start off with the spiciest one, you need to work your way up to it.
Yep. I started with Linkin Park and Avenged Sevenfold, and while I still love those bands dearly (the latter of those is still my favourite band ever), I'm getting more and more into brutal stuff like Slipknot, Behemoth, Periphery, etc. just through exposure to it.
@@OllieWales
Behemoth? Periphe what?
Dude that's for pussies.
Ever heard of asking alexandria?
@@MrMetalhorse duuuude ever heard of "Acidic Vaginal Liquid Explosion Generated by Mass Amounts of Filthy Fecal Fisting and Sadistic Septic Syphilic Sodomy Inside the Infected Maggot Infested Womb of a Molested Nun Dying Under the Roof of a Burning Church While a Priest Watches and Ejaculates in Immense Perverse Pleasure over His First Fresh Fetus"?
jo I also got there from softer bands like a7x, linkin park, Billy talent -> slipknot, sabaton -> amon amarth, trivium -> thy art is murder, shadow of intent, rings of Saturn, I couldn't even appreciate slipknot in the beginning metal really grows onto you over many years. The sad thing is people that havent made that way often can't comprehend why you like the music and think it's just noise.
@@patfenis5168 LMFAO.
How did you come up with all of that!
I can't stop laughing.
I prefer listening to granite and petrified wood. To each his own...
I'm more of a mahogany type of guy myself,
sooo pop? because listening to pop is like listening to a piece of wood
Yannick Vandervelden I can’t think of of a clever response, I actually prefer classical and flamenco guitar music
Nah nothing beats listening to a bunch of caveman banging rocks and shouting 'ooga-booga'. That's my kind of music
@@yannickvandervelden8843 nah pop doesn't give me wood, but Testament does
Unfortunately I don’t think many “non-metal heads” will see this
We need to share it with everyone! 😃
Eh I don't consider myself one. I've listened to a shit ton of metal bands, both popular and obscure bands from my area, and I just can't get into it like I could with classic and hard rock.
Benevolent Waffle I’m not, never gotten into metal at all. I watch for song selection Friday usually. I’ve never exactly liked what I’ve heard from metal widely, but that isn’t much at all. I’ll check some out.
Damn woke up to 124 likes, thank you guys. Gonna read every comment and respond. 🤘🏾🔥 ROCK ON
TH3 5TRIK3R sounds like a plan 🤘🏾
Also, if you're in the pit and fall in most shows, the people in the pit will pick you up quickly. Not always, but I'd say 95% of the time
I went to a rap show for my sister the other day, and I was the only one helping people up in the pit, but when I saw Slayer last month(or any other metal shows I've been to) no one was left on the ground like that. And there was no one who brought joints, it was all fuckin stupid ass vape pens.
I've fallen over in pits and didn't even hit the ground people were that quick picking me up again. Near enough everyone in there is looking out for each other to make sure everyone there has the best time possible. There's a lot of "Treat others as you would want to be treated" among pit dwellers.
@Luna Assassin It was fun, just people couldn't mosh. I stayed in the pit the whole time, and the front row of the wall of death, but barely got hurt. just a couple bruises. At a thrash show I would've almost died.
Only time nobody picke me up, was, when we all fall toghether
Well I don’t really care for pits because I just want to enjoy the music and not get elbowed in the face
I remember being at a Disturbed/A7X concert and i accidentally bumped into a guy him making him loose his freshed tapped beer, and he was like a huge guy, over 2 meters, full beard, looking kind of scary.
But got damn what a nice guy, i said i was sorry and offering to buy him a beer, he just laughed and smiled to me told me to chill and sing along a little when "Ten Thousand Fists" came on.
The metal community sure is awesome.
Alfie871 I thought you said ten thousand fireflies and was severely confused
Hell yeah, rock on brother 💪
Being a 6'7" woman, my whole life I've been treated like a freak in public. People laughing, gawking, pointing, following me around stores, etc. I've always had very low self esteem because of it. Going to a metal concert is literally the only time I've ever felt "normal" No one is paying any me any mind, so I'm able to be myself, have a great time, and leave feeling energized and much better about myself. And yes, I was always in the mosh pit! Depending on my level of depression on any given day, listening to metal will improve my mood and put me in a better state of mind. It's literally been a life saver.
Hell yeah!!!
@Mette B I wish I knew...
@Mette B Same with a short guy. I never look at a girl's height on her dating profile because it bugs me so much when I'm judged for being short. If a girl has a height requirement listed like "must be 5'5" or taller" or something I swipe left, even if I meet the requirement.
@@raymondwhatley9954 i like short guys and tall girls
@Mette B it’s abnormal to people because it’s just abnormal in general. You don’t often see people who are 6’7, especially women, but it’s not a bad thing and there is no reason to make a big deal about it

its funny how people say metal and hard rock are too “violent, scary, emo, etc” but when you actually understand the music, it becomes the most soothing form of music out there.

They think metal is violent hah just make them listen to any sabaton (edit i forgot a word) song and they will change their minds.

Mike the music snob, the empowerer of metal.
Idk I think this metal "propaganda" video is ridiculous and is just the best example of how metalheads are entitled and think they're better than others.
I mean I've never seen a video of a soul music lover that says "TOP 10 list : Why you have to listen to Stevie Wonder". Even Adam Neely never posted a video on "WHY YOU SHOULD LIKE JAZZZ"
Plus most of the things he credits metal to have are just as present in dozens of other music genre.
Vorol Drwarfff it’s a suggestion, dick head
I find your plebeian views quite charming, dear Vorol.
@@sirnasty1553 Not even a suggestion. It reminds of these top comments we often read in good music videos of any genre : "I'm a metalhead, but I love this" as if the world was waiting for the approval of a bunch of long haired spoiled fake intellectual musicians.
Vorol Drwarfff Bro what
Woah Mike likes metal, I never would of guessed.
Quite a bit
Of you seen his hair?

Oh, I thought he liked 21 pilots
WOAH *Crash voice*
Metal also has the best live shows of any genre. No lip syncing, no backing tracks, no autotune, no background dancers, no bullshit. Pop and rap concerts are so overproduced and just not genuine. Metal concerts is just raw music. There's also so much crowd participation. You never feel like the artist or band is above you if that makes any sense. You feel like they're one of you. The audience is what creates the spectacle, not the overproduction of the show.
There are really great concerts in classical music too, but yeah, rock/metal shows are the coolest ones.
Metal or rock n roll has saved me many times and i'm happy I discovered it when I was little
@Jakaś tam laska I guess I'm lucky to have an older father who likes the music considered "classic rock" today by radio formats (eyeroll bc why not call it rock). But the area in which my parents lack is a knowledge of JAZZ and
CLASSICAL repertoire. I'm a musician who's into all kinds of music, and wants to major in it, and I just feel so lost sometimes trying to look for new music in those genres.
@Jakaś tam laska same here. I had to dig for rock/metal music by myself since I was 14. I'm 18 now.
Years of listening to pop music wasted
@@conormurphy4328 trust me, as someone who used to hate pop music as a whole, through watching others I look up to such as Adam Neely analyze it and prove that there's at least some good to find in each pop song, my views on the unfamiliar, especially what I used to hate, have done a complete 180. Give something a chance and find at least ONE good thing to appreciate about it and understand why it is significant.
Lavernius Tucker of course there’s gonna be reasonably good parts in something as diverse as a genre of music. It should be painfully obvious to people by now that generalisations of any subject are never accurate.
As a generally very timid and soft spoken person, metal has really helped me in finding a voice of my own. It helped me through a lot of stress and anxiety episodes. It helped me in giving a much lesser amount of fucks about what other people think about me, but it also helped me to connect with other people when I needed it. The variety in metal music is quite amazing. Sometimes, I need to gloomy Opeth tune to brood to, sometimes I need a cheesy power metal tune to lift my spirits, sometimes I need something a bit more aggressive to vent my frustrations. Sometimes, I just want to listen to 20 minute songs of prog wankery, since it pretty much takes all of my focus and doesn't let my mind wander to more unpleasant places, lol. Metal is just awesome and I'm pretty sure that anyone who puts in just a little bit of effort would find at least some metal tunes they'd enjoy.
If you want a roller coaster ride of insanity check out Troldhaugen. Aussie avant-garde progressive folk that's soooo much fun. Never fails to make me smile. Keep an open mind tho cuz shit's weird :D

This is a great one, thank you. Metal is an engine force, when it reunites with the symphonic orchestra, which is also a power engine, they absolutely destroy everything on this plannet, let's not say destroy, they top everything, the first variant sounded more metal though. :)))
Listening to metal has definitely made the suicidal thoughts go away. I also get less depressed. And because I'm only 5 feet tall, every metal concert I've gone to, all of the tall people go out of their way to make sure I see the performance and enjoy myself, too.
Well this is really nice, can I ask you something? How do you feel less depressed and withno suicidal thoughts anymore, when metal talks about these things and some people say in their lyrics that they've got this type of things.

A "good" metal concert is a communal spiritual experience. All people in the crowd come together in solidarity even though outside of the concert they might be very different people.
Number 1 Reason: Opeth
Opeth is an acquired taste.
Opeth is its own taste. Ne Obliviscaris is its own taste beyond that. But both are acquired and can lead to even more fantastic tastes. But I generally find that, much like Tool fans, Opeth fans have a hard time moving away from Opeth. I almost did, myself. Therefore, I declare it its own taste.
Confused yet? I think I am, too. Good day.
Honestly never got people's obsession with opeth.
@@RacecaR08 wait what?? They are death metal. I just listened to this song called the Sorceress. It was pretty boring. Didn't sound anything like death metal. And I know death metal considering I listen to it all the time. I just never really bothered listening to opeth. Seen them at a festival once but didn't pay any attention to them.
As far as the metal elitist goes, I would say thrashers are way more elitists than any other genre fan around.
@@RacecaR08 I listened to one of their older songs, the ghost something and it was Koo. Too progressive for me though.
"Also shut up in the comments section saying Deathcore is not real metal"
Thank you Mike, I really appreciate your defense on Deathcore, you are the man!
I don't know, I can't really listen to death core, do they care about not blowing up their voices? I'm not hironical or anything, I'm just asking. It seems also from the technical perspective, it's to violent, I mean the guitar playing. Can you recommend me a band that's more than low tempo breakdowns and blastbeats? Thank you so much!
My top five reasons:
5) It’s energizing not unlike a workout or caffeine
4) It is FULL of variety so you’re likely to find a specific flavor you like
3) It’s a healthy way to blow off steam/channel your aggression (not unlike a sport)
2) It may very well inspire you to learn an instrument or at least acquire an appreciation for instrumentation
1) It is an honest type of music that is completely uninterested in selling you anything but the actual music. It doesn’t come with an obligatory lifestyle, fashion, or brand association. There won’t be any think tanks or marketing execs trying to sell you an idol. No shadow writers feeding their lyrics to less talented but far more attractive puppets. Just musicians hoping you like their craft and literally nothing else.
Because it’s on the whole honest.
Try psytrance.
“But all metal just sounds the same and all they do is scream into the mic!”
Probably the biggest whip on metal heads, you can’t even bring up what type of music you listen to without hearing this, kinda sucks
My EX GF: "But what does this "music" bring to you? All I hear is noise"
She even made the quote sign with her hands when she said "music".
Number eight:
It's just fun, man.
Metal gets your adrenaline flowing , which is very healthy . Also thanks for standing up for deathcore lol
Spencer
Not that Infant Annihilator cares about what people think of them, but I digress lol
As a very introverted guy, metal music has been a vital outlet for me to vent anger and aggression out in a healthy way, and I feel like I'd be a very different person had I not had something like this as I was growing up.
My gateway into metal was through symphonic metal. I was singing in my high school's chamber choir at the time, so I was practicing and performing lots of classical music at the time. I discovered Nightwish and symphonic metal and marveled at how such a talented classical singer like Tarja Turunen could front a metal band. That began my journey down the dark, twisted, brutal rabbit hole that is the metal genre. That was 15 years ago, and it's been an awesome journey! \m/
And what do you think? Can rock/metal get as complex as classical music for example?

*MIKE WHAT THE FUCK*
The most genuinely kind and good people I know are all metalheads
That is the main reason I like Metal. The sheer raw power and the fact it makes you feel epic. I think elitism is just a way for people to make themselves feel superior by saying their music is the best and all others are inferior.
Just been to a Rammstein show in Denmark and I couldn't agree more. Also I am 90% deaf
Lol.
i've never ever listened to metal. the only reason i know anything about the genre at all is because its apparently pretty popular, so i hear about it a lot from other people who listen to it. so im trying to expand my music taste in general to broader genres, even those in other languages.
Metal really does make you feel empowered. 🤘😈🤘 I've been a metalhead since 2011 and it's all thanks to the cello band Apocalyptica.

I have rage issues and hearing metal vocals is good therapy for me it actually gets rid of my anger and I agree metal is complex thus making it deeper in depth and overall more entertaining... I listen to the complex time signatures of tool and enjoy metal-core...I love metal

Metal and rock have been the genres that I mainly love all through my life. Don't know where I would be without it and the community. One thing I don't like are the elitist but you don't come across them that often.
To quote Chris Griffin of Family Guy, "And this will be my life now."
7 Reasons why you NEED to Listen to Classical?
Your channel, but this could be a mini-series
Edit: Also I assume in this video you're talking about all genres but black metal... maybe?
Classical music was the heavy metal of its day. A few years ago, I got a cd set called Classical Thunder. I recommend it to all headbangers ad a good introduction to classical music.
I would love the mini series.
On the side note, very much disrespectful to BM are we? Its one of the biggest metal genres, could be argued it is the strongest standing right now even. I know Mike dislikes it and its fine, but damn, have some respect man.
Black Metal is the best genre there is tho
I freaking love Black Metal! Heavy, Thrash, Melodic Death Metal and Black Metal are my favorite metal genres! I also love grunge and hard rock. And like... Who doesn't like Bathory?
I started to listen to metal about 6 months ago and i used to think that metal was just growling and screaming and thought that it doesn't sound like music at all. My dad has been a metal head almost all of his life, he is in a trash metal band and he intruduced me to metal and i thank him for that.
DocDuck excellent parenting
For me, Metal is about positivity and improving one’s state in life. You need to look past the raw message and actually listen to what the band or the person is trying to say. Or they are able to vocalize or transform what a person might be feeling into something healthy and positive. Many times a band has described in lyrics exactly how I feel, or a melody or rhythm just hits you in the soul. You feel like someone understands what you’re feeling, at times when you feel like nobody else gets it. Metal is a healthy outlet for frustration and anger, and turning it into something constructive and positive.
This was made for me, cause I know nothing about metal
My biggest problem is the people who listen to pop/hip hop and are arrogant enough to say metal all sounds the same. I was driving my car and had some work colleagues with me, Megadeth came on followed by Nightwish and they said they sounded exactly the same. What the actual fuck man!
Yep. It just proves that people are very narrow minded when it comes to metal when I fact it's probably the most diverse genre out there but people just flat out refuse to give it a chance.
@1947 Oh stfu. It's all trem picking power chords screaming about darkness and shredding. It's all the same shit. Stop trying to justify your inferior taste.
I personally got to the point where I don't think of myself as a metal-head even though i listen to metal a lot. I like having a diverse music taste.
I’ve been listening Metal music like for almost 6 years. When I was a teenager, I didn’t like Metal at all, really, I decided to give Metal a chance, and I’ve figured out that Metal is a combined genre, truth words, blastous and emotional genre, and also it’ll teach you how to like the truth words and even bond with yourself again if you have lost your real identity, if someone feels really dark, which I mean they are at a dark and hard period, listen to Metal, this genre will help you to pass out this dark period, and don’t lose hope.

Thank you for that! Too many people disregard it and most deathcore bands I’ve listened to are actually great.
Your content is getting pretty good lately. Keep it up!
8. Lyrics, man the lyrical themes Heavy Metal expose, from history to social issues, from psicology to letterature, so many great lyrics and topics in Heavy Metal music
Btw sorry for my bad english
I listen to metal because it makes me angry and angry is better than sad
Next : 7 Reason why you don't need to listen to Pop
You like Metal? I thought that iron maiden flag was for decoration
Great video man! Very articulate, concise, and loaded with excellent points. I'm going to share this with every friend who wonders why I listen to metal.
Metal just makes me so happy and you totally put it into words perfectly! Next time someone doesn't understand I'll just send them this video lol
Number one reason to listen to metal: floor jansen
she kicks ass :D
This is more of a personal experience that doesn't mean it's the norm, but metal concerts are one of the few times when I can be in some club and not have a perv trying to grab onto something. Could just be luck, but I traveled to the capital at 18 for a concert with a bunch of metalheads I've never met and they were fucking awesome and respectful. None of the elitist shit when they start giving you the interrogation of what do you know about so and so. The only dudes hitting on me at that time were some of the band themselves, and even they did it in a respectful way, given how wasted they were. They took no for an answer and didn't turn all bitchy. So props to the metalhead guys (and girls) I've met on shows, I suppose.
That said, some metalheads are assholes and insane edge loads, some are drunks or supremacists - it's not all great. But tell me a community that has no assholes.
The reason I listen to metal is because of how relevant to me it is. I am a massive fan of David draiman, serj tankian, Ronnie radke etc. of course I listen to classic and other genres but metal I can get my groove on or if I feel down it makes my day a lot better ❤✌️
At my first metal festival, I found myself at the edge of a moshpit. And I do have back problems, so when a guy jumped into my back with both knees, I went down hard. That one a friend for life now, that is metal for ya.
Wait u like metal too *shocks*
And he likes it quite a bit too!
*O_o*
phagelives Dear God a metal head who likes metal
Lol. I'm shocked too, I thought he liked pop 😂😂😂
The only person I've ever seen be an asshole at a metal show was a random drunk guy who just clung to me for some reason. He was yelling at people and being a dick, then punched some girl in the face as hard as he could. He then proceeded to have his ass kicked by me and 5 other guys around me. You don't treat ladies wrong at a metal show. We take care of everyone around us, especially the women.
There's always that one drunk asshole anywhere, be it a metal concert, a football match, or a family reunion.
Excellent video. I've been a fan of thrash metal, heavy metal, death metal and doom metal since my teens. I'm 43 now and I still love it.
Dude spot on. Metal is the full package of exercise covering mind, body and soul. So therapeutic in so many ways. Rock on 🤘
I like metal, normal rock, raprock(you should check out the the lafontaines) and GOOD rap(not mumble rap or trap).
It's fun being part of all the different music community's
MIKE LIKES METAL? WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT
Every single reason, I am just standing here saying “YES!”. Definitely sharing your vid with my friends. Metal has helped me overcome some of my fears and I am happier because of it. AND for real, some of the nicest people at concerts.
I love the research and passion that went into this video. Now I have a video that I can politely shove down my friends throats. Metal is the best genre to enter my life!
Mr. Snob this was nice and your beard is nice.
Because its Metal
Honestly so right about some of this. I've been getting into metal lately and it's been so helpful for my migraines and stress. 🤘😎 I keep my ear phones on my person.
Just discovered your channell. Metal music is just plain FUN! I started getting into music after seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 64. Over the years, I liked a lot of music. But wether it was rock, blues, jazz or classical, I was always attracted to bands with a heavier sound. I think your list is spot on. Metal relieves stress and lessens aggression.
I'm also a cancer survivor and I would not have made it without progressive metal bands.
BTW, Arch/Matheos 2, Winter Ethereal is the best progressive metal album I've heard since, well, the first Arch/Matheos album.
I’m a simple man. I see papa het, I click.
Being 41, approaching 42 in just 24 days...I’ve been listening to Metal since I was 11/12. Pantera and Metallica have been my Top 2 favs all-time plus other famous bands as well. I have met Dave M and Dave E from Megadeth, 4 members of Slipknot, Fear Factory, and Cannibal Corpse 2x. I have YET to have a negative experience meeting Metal musicians.
Headbangers are sooo maligned and misrepresented in Society that it is very disappointing.
And saying this as an unapologetic Christian, I wish that more Christians around the world would follow the words in the Bible and simply love and accept others for who they are, not what/how the Media portrays them to be or how they meet their standards.
Along with Mike, I do despise Black Metal because of its messages (big shocker right).
Simply because the whole Satanism message has been run into the ground all the way to the core of the earth. There is nothing new you can say at this point. If you don’t believe in God, that’s your feelings/option...fine, and your absolute right to have them. That’s the beauty of Free Will, a God given gift.
And in closing, I love that I have been given that gift from God to listen to Metal and know that at the end of the day, he will look into my heart. Something I would like all Christians to do when they think of Headbangers and the overall culture of Metal.
Take Care and God Bless!!
ROCK ON!!! 🤘😁🤘
Love the UA-cam notifications working finally. Great vid man keep it up 👌
All true, I especially liked the polite and genuine part. I think that is what makes it a family feel for me, at a concert. Knowing that we are all very different but share a passion.
