I retired from BMW manufacturing in SC. This guy is good. We had a department called rework. Those guys were masters at all the systems. The assembly people were very good at the processes they did when the car came to their station but the rework guys were great at finding the issue and resolving it.
I haven’t done the full review yet. That’s when I’ll get into the good and bad. I may get the products for free but I’m always 100 percent honest in my reviews.
And you don't want to install this yourself? I got weary just watching Larry do the install, and he knows what he's doing! Definitely, positively not a DYI kind of thing😉😉 Interesting to watch though!!
It's easily a DIY type of thing. If you thought this was difficult you definitely shouldn't be working on your own vehicles. No more difficult than any other work inside of a door panel. Just keep the bolts and screws organized take pictures as you disassemble it so you know where things went. Not that much work. Personally I think it's too much effort for what you get. The autopresenting and soft closing doors are nice but I don't think I would want the complication of the extra wires flopping around inside that door or in the car. To me that's the biggest negative of this installation. You're Most likely going to be ending up with future electrical gremlins that are difficult to track down.
So if anyone here does this themselves, make sure to put the round stickers back on door as that makes airbag work correctly if it’s same as model s. Learned from Rich Rebuilds.
Hi installed this last month, works fine. Have a problem now. My 2 windows (right side) are not going down when you open the door, so can not close the door also. Just got the car towed to tesla service center. My question is (technically), the 2 glass windows (up&down) on the right side, electric does this effect the hansshow. Better does hansshow effect the electric glass window to go down or up? It’s only the right side, left side is working fine. Also door opening or side mirrirs are ok. Because need to know if it’s effecting the glass window or not, I’m pretty sure Tesla service center will blame this on hansshow.
Look forward to seeing the finished product. Still contemplating the power boot / froot (trunk/frunk). I'm lucky to use either 1 -2 x month. As much I like the tech, the cost-benefit isn't working for me atm.
Mike, I wit you would have slowed the video and shown what mods were done to the door handle assembly. Details are important. I a DIY’r and no problem taking on a project like this but the more advanced details I can have the more comfortable I am taking on these projects.
When it comes to the soft closing doors, my family has a habit of slamming the car doors. What would happen if you slam the car door? Would it damage/destroy the newly installed electric latch mechanism? Would you be so kind to test it for me on your car? Would hate to buy this option not knowing there could be a potential problem and wasting $$$.
I saw a video on fitting the auto trunk open and close. The whole car was stripped so no, I’m not even doing anything to my 3. X4 what will this cost for no gain?
A very good installer. However, I don’t like how his rolling stool was up against the rear door most of the video. This wouldn’t fly in my garage. Hopefully this was just a bad camera angle.
Can you auto present the handles when your picking someone up, so from inside the car via the touchscreen? Would be useful if you were an Uber driver or the future Tesla Network.
Tesla Offer and AmpTech are looking into it. Safety is the first concern and it will take a lot of testing to make sure it is. If they don’t give it the seal of approval, I won’t consider it at all.
Have you gotten any 12v errors from all the mods? If your battery dies Can you still push on the door handle to open it like normal? Does the emergency release still function? Is the soft close quick? Do you need to do the door handles to get the soft close?
Great video! I ended up getting the EVOffer handles on your recommendation. They are currently in need of a flash. Do you know where Larry put the control unit in your car?
What does it cost for the parts? I've done enough work on cars that I wouldn't be afraid of the install, but just for the info, what do they charge for an install?
When I was doing the trunk I got to the point of the canbus connector and like yours it was the wrong size cause I have a 2018. Are they getting you one. They told me pretty much not to worry about it. But I want it for the v4 extra options. Kinda disappointed with them. Never did it say it would not work with my 2018. And they don’t seem to want to send me the connector that will fit. I wasted all that time running cables for nothing. Maybe you have more pull with them. If you get one of have extras I would be willing to pay you to ship it to me for your time and effort. Thanks. Let me know any information.
I’m about to get these installed. Can you let me know Is the light behind handle an LED strip that wraps around like shown on the website or is it a single light bulb like in the video thumbnail?
I’m looking into the same thing by teslaoffer. There soft close and auto present are two different packages. Soft close must be installed first as you do here. But it is buy one package or two separately?

@SuSpenceMasterX the softclose doors that were installed in this video were counterfaits. Frugal Tesla guy did non know at that time.
Nice video but it hardly seems worth all the trouble for what you end up with 🙄
So you see the advantage of closing the door, but only in my eyes. where is the advantage when opening? trading as you show it is never done in everyday life, is it? So take half the car apart ... I don't know sorry
Greetings Markus
There is no advantage to this system, just another thing they are adding to our cars so they break faster and we junk em
Why would you do that? Door handles on the S have so many issues and are super expensive.... i would never buy this for model 3.
The reason they did not do that on the Model 3 is that you did not pay 100K so you did not get 100K car. Period. Stop asking why did we not get all the things the S has on the 3. It is not the same car.
