I do it after I have done my warming-up drills.
Don't go into the high register before warming up! This would hurt your lips. Always prepare before going into the high register.
Go as high as you can but DO NOT force!
When you feel you have reached your limit then stop and continue tomorrow.
Try to maintain a steady airflow as you go higher.
The exercise is played slurred and not too fast.

*It is a very good exercise, the more you work slowly in pianissimo the more the reward of the effort is beneficial.*
*Thanks for the video, this is a precious example.*

I've heard of different ways to improve range from my teacher or other ways online but none have worked as well as this one. I used to get a D on my good days, and now after a few days I almost have an Eb consistently coming out. Thank you!!

Really glad to hear it! It works for me every time too. The good thing is that it minimizes the risk of hurting yourself from too much pressure because you go higher slowly step by step. Just like bodybuilding. You put every time when you go to the gym just a bit more weight and after a certain period of time, your body gets stronger.

I've been using this expertise for the first time this. After playing this exercise for the third time, I've noticed that my higher range has improved. I don't get anymore pressure headaches when playing g's. Also, my pedal tones have also improved. I will definitely be using this exercise more as I prepare for my freshman year in collegiate band. Thanks for the great exercise!

Why wouldn’t you try to use as least valves as possible in the upper range such as using 2nd for Eb and F# instead of what is written?

These are optional valves. Sometimes Eb is flat and 23 fix it. Depends on the trumpet and the trumpeter.

Would you advise keeping the instrument on your face during rests on this or removing it?

No, I wouldn't. For this exercise I always put down the trumpet during rests. I would recommend caruso for endurance.
