Hey! Love this. Love this. Deacon Brodie's dinner looked fabulous! The One O'Clock Gun was great! As a geek, who relies on the Navy Atomic Clock, I loved this. The styles of the architecture over the millennia that you got to see was amazing! Always thinking about you 2!
The late Queen had had bone cancer - myeloma - for at least a year, but, as I understand it, she was not dying from the cancer; more probable is that it was a combination of things associated with old age, the death of her husband and the treatment for her cancer. She was Queen for most of my life. Charles has been well-trained and he shall carry on with his Mother's iron will behind him and his intelligence and compassion to guide him.
When the Royal Standard (yellow flag) is flying above Holyrood House it means there is a member of the Royal family in residence and there will be no public admission. This rarely happens in high season due to amount of tourists and only occurs in exceptional circumstances in June, July, August.
You can hear the one o'clock gun all over Edinburgh. Let's you know how late you are 😀. The big tower (Nelson Tower) on Calton Hill was originally established as a tribute to Lord Nelson then used to show the time hourly to shipping in the River Forth by way of hoisting and lowering "time balls". It still lowers a "time ball" at 1pm each day, except Sunday.
I lived near Balmoral for a decade and think it is very much accepted that the Queen knew she was terminally ill and decided to die at Balmoral for two reasons, one because it was her favourite residence after Windsor but much more private than Windsor, and second, she wanted to emphasise her and the Crown’s links to Scotland - if she died in England then Scotland would not really have been involved in the ceremonial marking of her death, but by dying there, she lay in state in Edinburgh before even being taken to London. She definitely never ever stayed at Balmoral normally into September, she sometimes arrived earlier than August 1 and then (since Balmoral was open to the public until that date) she would stay in another house on the estate, but never stayed beyond Aug 31st - this was the only time so def deliberate.
Aye, but remember it's a lived-in city and not Disneyland. We respect and welcome every visitor to our city but be as polite to the residents as we are to you, which I am sure that you would do.
Thanks for watching! We did all our own trip planning and research before the trip. We also scheduled and bought our various entrance tickets ahead of time.
You said that you'd planned the trip a long time, yet only heard you pronounce Edinburgh correctly once! It's pronounced, "Edinburra".The comment about the room being tiny was uncalled for. As well as my mother's family estate in Scotland & my father's in France, my husband and myself have homes in both the U.K. & the U.S.A. We count most of our American friends as family but, as a vlog which I watched just this week said, we wish Americans would bring their manners with them when they travel.....
