The Greek was willing to let it go, at least I think he was. Ziggy was gonna do his time and probably die in prison but the Greek saw the port as a useful Ally until the counterinformant blew it.
The Greek was originally going to clean up loose ends after the police raids and what he found out what Ziggy did to Double G and the boy. Spiros suggested because the port was so valuable to them that they could have the only witness which was the greek boy say it was self defense to get Ziggy out of prison and in exchange Nicky and Frank would be loyal to them. The Greek liked Spiros' plan. But minutes before Frank pulled up to meet with The Greeks under the bridge. Their FBI informant notified the Greek that Frank had talked to the police about giving up information about The Greeks. That's when The Greek tells Spiros at the end of the scene "Your plan won't work". Meaning we can't save them, they are not loyal we have to kill them.

The problem I had with season 2 the 1st time I saw it, was that it followed up season 1. It was a lot different and i did not want the show to change so drastically. But when I went backed later on and watched season 2 on its own, it actually was really good.
I agree with u man.. after season 1 i watched half of season 4.. it was all wal mart had... but once i got season 2 and 3.. i was blown away.. i didnt expect that the 2nd season would revolve around the docks and play the barksdale organization to the side... but it ended up being my favorite season.. i really wish somehow nick sobotka could have been a remaining character in the series... amd frank sobotka is one of the best characters in a television show period!
Is it unpopular? 2 and 4 are my favorite seasons. The only season I know gets a lot of flack is 5. And 5 deserves it. It's the season that announces the Simon we'll get in Treme, etc.
Season 2 might be the most different of the 5 seasons but its story fits right in with the context of the show. The dockworkers union symbolizes the death of blue-collar work in America. The blue-collar work that once ran cities and put food on the tables of millions of lower class families. And, like frank mentions, his union had been left to die some time ago, much like how the American government left these low-class families to fend for themselves. And all they have to turn to is the drug game. Education in poor communities is almost always a failure due to insufficient funding. So blue collar jobs left, the school system failed to educate kids, and they turn to the drug game because thats their only opportunity. Its really sad
it's not necessarily poor funding, considering how much we spend on education in the US. How much of that money actually makes it to the schools due to corruption, or is actually put towards education instead of sports, that's another story.

The reason I put only in quotes like that is I think a lot of it comes from the illusion of opportunity, and the lack of ability to change. Yes, there are options, save up the money you'd spend on something else to move and start over, go back to school, etc. But when it comes to local opportunity to make money here and now, that's a whole other story. Especially in a situation like Frank's where his skill set is so tailored to one industry, and he has some age on him. He's at the brink, of losing what he had worked for his entire career. His options were to give up completely or to take the avenue he did. We can always turn a "holier than thou" cheek, but I think we need to recognize why people feel cornered. The middle class has been dying for decades, even when this show came out, so yes, opportunity exists, but it grows ever more niche as time moves on.
Ziggy was annoying AF. I know they were trying to portrait a cartoonish character with low self-steem, but it was almost unbeareable to see a whole scene with the guy.
He was pretty good for comic relief.... that shit with the duck was pretty funny. And seeing him trying to play hard gangsta while nobody took him seriously was also funny. His fight with Mau though and how he was trolled was the cherry on the top

I recently finished S2. About a week after I got really drunk and started thinking about the season and how Franks story is so tragic. I started crying to my girlfriend about Frank Ziggy and Niko and she had absolutely no idea what I was rambling about hahahaha. This series man, it's crazy how good it is.

I think season 2 was The Wire's worst season. I absolutely didn't care about any of these characters, but luckily, the show got back on track in Seasons 3 and beyond.

Season 2 is very underrated. Slow burn in the first half but the payoff was worth it, and it makes the rest of the show carry much more weight.
