Greetings from a new subscriber in the L.A. area. I've eaten at that location many times (as well as the original Taco Bell location you referenced) because our family lived not far from there when I was a kid. Set designers for the 2016 movie, "The Founder," carefully studied this McDonald's location in designing the replica restaurants used in the film. Also, you said that Hamburger University is where McDonald's employees are trained, but actually HU is for management training as well as training franchisees. Employee training is done at the individual restaurants. (McDonald's Fun Fact -- For those who aren't aware, there is a fully functional McDonald's restaurant behind security fencing in an industrial park in Industry, California (L.A. County) that never opens to the public. It is only used for filming McDonald's TV commercials.)

    Great Video!
I have a little memory from a McDonald's I used to go to in Sparta, Michigan,
There was alot of stuff in a completely separate room that nobody could go into,
There was an entire car in that room, alongside other McDonald's memorabilia,
I always wanted to sit next to it because it looked so cool, sadly, it's already been remodeled.
    Again, Great Video!

Wow brings back great memories when I was a kid. We used to go to one just like this back in the very early 60's. It was located in _Hamden, Connecticut_
It's still there only modern. It might even be the first "McDonalds that opened in Connecticut back in the late 1950's.
I remember the menu sign saying Burgers were 15¢. And I believe it said over a *Million burgers sold.* 🍔 Our parents took us here every once in a while.
When they did, we thought of it as a treat!😋..I guess these fast-food restaurants are really geared for kids, and Truckers 🤣

They restored that building in July 2017. My wife and I were on vacation in Cali. That was my first stop in Downey. Unfortunately it was closed but I took photos of the resto.

Found your channel through an 80's Life mention (CEC in San Jose). Thanks for the great content! In Brazil they still have fried Apple pies and Banana Pies :)

I lived in Downey and the surrounding area for about 8 years and in all the times I've been to this McDonald's i don't think i ever knew about the fried pies! Next time I'm in town, i need to try one. As i recall, that seating area and museum was built sometime in the early 2000s. I want to say there were just some outdoor tables there before that, but not many.

So cool, I didn't know they built a San Bernadino replica & museum right next door. I will have to go check it out, since I live in Baldwin Park. (birthplace of In & Out) Thanks !

Pause at 7:09 you'll see what they gave franchises after 5 years. I found the 2 documents and signed print of the 1st Kroc restaurant in De Plaines. I found these framed at an antique show.

The deep fried pie reminds me of how when I used to work at Wendy's years ago. We'd deep fry the buns (they'd come out tasting like funnel cake) and put frosty with the strawberry syrup on top. So damn good!

I was so curious to see what in the world was a fried pie, only to find out that it's just what we call a "pastel" here - which is extremely common - but with sweet flavor instead of the usual cheese or ground beef (I think that's what you call it) we use here 😂

You're probably too young, but the old Weatherman Willard Scot, who was on like good morning america or something, he was the original Ronald McDonald. The creepy one in the photos you saw. Also, I totally forgot the pies were fried. I RARELY go to McDonalds anymore. They prices are too high. But when I do, since the Big Mac isn't very big (the patty is thinner) I get a double quarter pounder with Big Mac Sauce. Which isn't too bad. I sometimes get a Filet O' Fish, but when they started charging to have extra sauce I quit buying that too. lol What I like about some classic fast food places, is they are allowing you to make your meals Keto/Carnivore-ish friendly. LIke Wendy's you can just buy it with lettuce instead of a bun. it comes in the old side-salad tray instead of wrapped or a buger box. Arby's you can order without a bun, Jimmy John's has a lettuce wrap option for your sub. Which is nice too. I hope more places start offering keto/carnivore focused stuff. They can keep the customers who changed their diets, and win back some that stopped going because they did.

I wonder if Ray never came along would McDonalds have been in the class of In-n-out?

    • @SetsStreetsEats
      @SetsStreetsEats  Рік тому +5

It is certainly a valid question. They would have obviously had knowledge of one another being only 20 or so miles apart from each other's first restaurants and the McDonald's brothers clearly wanted to have a simple menu just like in and outs to help with the speedy delivery. So I would say it is a fair assumption that they would have kept the quality up and would have been direct competitors with in and out. However, the other way to look at it is the in an out started before McDonald's and only has 300 locations nationwide and McDonald's has almost 30,000 locations worldwide so by all definitions of success in our culture I would say McDonald's won. But I would sure rather eat a double double any day of the week lol

Can't help it! Looks so good in this Video!!! 🍔🍔🍟🍟I tell you, never watch these videos on an empty stomach! 😁🤣
But I don't think I'll be eating at this location! Not with those pidgins all on the ground, walking on the tables. Shitting on the tables and seats...Thats gross!!! 😝
