Yup. Totally agree. My market has about 9 stores I've shopped, and only maybe 2 of them are well maintained. Of the others I've had occasions where product is strewn all over shelves or unstocked in boxes on the floor. Staff frequently don't care....won't know where things are, won't come to the register when the self checkout station is down. I totally hate DG.

I used the DD app to complain about the wifi, i started raising hell with DD about sending me to DG's, i can only guess that someone got the message cause the problems with making connection/using the DD app in store has virtually disappeared in past two weeks

I am biased by where I typically start delivering, but as soon as I unlocked Silver, I was bombarded with large grocery orders touted as “High Paying” when in reality the time estimate put the order below the Earn By Time rate.

In my experience as a top dasher (in my smaller market) I can generally COUNT on my first offer being utter garbage. I've also found that it's actually recommended to turn that down.
Around 70-80% of the time I turn that garbage offer down, it'll be followed within a couple of seconds by a good offer. It happens WAY too often for me to consider coincidence.
It's almost like it's part of the algorithm to determine if you're willing to be crapped on. If you are, you'll get everything from that point on. If you're not, you'll get more of the 1st tier offers.
It's a sample of 1, so not scientific, but I kept track for over a year, and found it to hold mostly true.

i rarely decline an offer, especially in the beginning of the month due to the monthly 100 delivery qualifier, however i am sure the capitalists have come up with an algorithm that puts the screw to drivers, i have often wondered/contemplated that myself i have found sometimes after accepting three, four, once 5 times in a row receiving under $3 (some as low as $2) offers then getting several double digit offers right in a row, at the end of the night it always seems to work out, i really get a kick out of accepting a $2 offer collect 27 at the door, then handed 40 and got 7 more via the app, just in case i did the math for ya $49 gross net $22 minus expenses, ooh such the bean countin'

I got terrible orders when I hit 50%. I make more being selective not worrying about AR. That’s just the way it is currently and that can always change at any point. The barring scheduling thing based on AR may land DoorDash in hot water at some point. That’s starting to blur the line between employees vs contractors. I think they are starting to really gamble on what they can get away with. Paying contractors $2 while at the same time gatekeeping the ability to schedule contract work based on AR may start catching more government attention in states not already stepping in on behalf of drivers.

    • @alexmacias3837
      @alexmacias3837 Місяць тому

I just compared a week on “priority” vs being selective. I’ve made the same amount of money with DoorDash by not worrying about AR. This week without worrying about AR (now at 37%) I did less work and didn’t get tricked into taking stacked orders that looked good that had one order that didn’t tip folded in. 75% of those no tip customers had a problem, had bad instructions, or had all kinds of annoying requests vs 0% of the tipping customers. It stressed me out. Now that I’m back to being selective it’s way more chill. Disclosure: I live in CA (didn’t factor prop 22 kickbacks into any of the figures in my comparison) and only drive 4 hours per day 7 days a week for extra money. I did drive 25% more miles which I don’t care about because I have a dedicated beater (2001 Camry) and get the mileage deduction to reduce my tax liability. I’d rather drive more than do more volume for the same amount of money. Also 10% vs 8% of profits go to gas, big deal. I’m giving up a potential $60 a month for gas on roughly $2400 (not really due to my tax deduction) to avoid having to deal with most of the worst parts of dashing. However, that’s just my experience in my market at this time. I’m in the process of pivoting into another source of income to move away from the increasingly underhanded tactics DoorDash invents on a continual basis. I believe they will overstep their bounds at some point with these “benefits” and it will backfire on them with the implementation of new regulation.

The barring scheduling thing based on AR may land DoorDash in hot water at some point
IMNSHO I dont think so, working for DD you have a choice to drive, if you so chose to drive they have rewards but if you fail to meet their objectives then you dont receive the rewards, if a trucker picks up a load, needs to be delivered by XX time doesnt get there is time there are repercussions the driver faces. The scheduling helps control the amount of dashers running at any particular time, the lower tier are excluded either that or everyone can be on and you might get an offer an hour if your lucky. The schedule is what allows the system to work

I've been doing DD since August and have been Top Dasher (Platinum) the whole time and can't complain. I hover around 70 to 80 AR all the time. DD sometimes implement shadow hotzones. Theres a hotzone but the order was taken already before the refresh so theres no orders there. Sometimes DD just activates a hotzone there as "anchor" where it ask the restaurant to turn on its DD app, and DD just activates a hotzone there without orders just to let dasher park in the area in anticipation of orders coming thru. If you dont get an offer when you get there up until 2 minutes after the next refresh, then there no orders in the area.

It’s interesting, you say in your area DoorDash says high-paying orders are $2/mile. In my area they say it’s $3.50/mile. But…a sizable portion of those I get, maybe 50% or more, of those “high-paying” orders are around $5 for 1 - 1.5 miles. Not really worth it. I know DD will never do it but I feel there should be a minimum $ amount for it to be considered “high-paying”, not just ratio.

I have Top Dasher and I don't mind shop and delivers at drugstores but I HATE shop and delivers at "specialty" grocery stores that sell bougie products because I can NEVER find them. Not too long ago DD wanted me as a "preferred shopper" because I shopped faster than most dashers - according to them. First of all, I opted out of that faster than I can shop. But the reason I probably shop "faster" is that I hate being in the stores. I don't want to not do any shop and deliver (S&D) orders but I would love to be able to control not going to certain stores. PLUS I roll my eyes when I get a grocery S&D right in the middle of peak lunch or dinner. Lucky for me. I've found a hot spot that I can hide from most S&D if I seem to be getting too many of the requests I don't want. Especially if I am trying to raise my AR. I haven't activated Uber Eats S&D option...just yet.

The video reviews a DoorDash driver's first full shift with Silver status in the new Dasher Rewards program in 2024. With Silver, the driver gets priority access to the highest paying orders ($2+ per mile). The shift started slow with mostly shop and deliver orders, despite being in a "hot spot". After driving to a new area, the driver finally received a high-paying $10.50 shop and deliver order that took 45 minutes total. Later, the driver got a few restaurant-only orders, but had to accept a low $2.75 order to maintain 50%+ acceptance rate for Silver. After 3 hours, the driver concludes Silver status is barely worth the effort so far, as the orders are better but not significantly so. More shifts are needed to fully evaluate the program's value.

We don’t have the new program yet in my market, but I have been getting a lot more shop and deliveries than usual. I did get an email saying that I had good stats on items found and that I would be getting a higher priority on shop and deliver orders. It gave me the option to opt out if I wanted. Not sure if something similar is going on with you that is causing the increase on shop and deliver orders.

(I have the preference and haven't turned it off because it works great with our minimum pay law here in Seattle--usually getting a solid $26/hr overall with about 2/3 active because S&D orders still tip a bit too. And are pretty steady.)

The order was 66 items, alot was out of stock so it was 54, banged it out in less than an hour total. The order costed $461 and she tipped..... 10%!! Let's gooo!! 70$ pay in 1 hour!

I was using it for the GPS (which also SUCKS) and I couldn’t message the customer to update them. They were happy with the order and even tipped me more. I dont understand the contract violation its bogus

I do like shopping deliver orders for the most part and because I've done so many I do have priority. But I would say 50% of the time they're not paying enough for the amount of items like yesterday I got one that paid $7 to go get 12 items even though I was only a mile away that consumes a lot of time in the store only had one checkout line open. There's a lot of things to consider. Also how slow is it as far as amount of orders you are getting

Agreed. My general rule of thumb for shop and deliver orders is - the number of items to shop for should be less than the dollars for the job. Otherwise it just takes too long for me to complete, to make it worth it.

Love shopping on doordash, uber has a long way to go. Base pay is just so much better on doordash for them. If it's food only or mostly, I prefer dollar general, because you can get like 20 picks in the space of 10 feet. If it's more non food, *shudder*. There's also (from my experience) a huge difference from 50% priority and 70% priority. Also, you're going to get (if your marker is anything like mine) a ton more shop orders on Saturday and Sunday, sometimes but not always fridays.

I can already tell you without seeing the next two tiers this isn’t worth it ! In no way will I do shop and pay. It never pans out and costs me way to much time in my end of town. Uber gives me orders every day and plenty of them that are way above these crappy 10 dollar offers. I see orders closer to 20 bucks all through the day and I don’t have to earn that by taking bad orders . Yes Uber has lots of bad offers too like every app. I have also taken lots of offers with base pay and no tip to which those customers have tipped me decent after the delivery. Not all of them tip but this proves not all offers at base pay are bad

Doordash is garbage. I just love how they murder my acceptance ratings at the end of the month to prevent me from getting Top Dasher status. We dont have silver, gold, and platinum status here in Reno, NV
Top Dasher status means absolutely nothing. I make pretty much the same amount every night regardless of the promotions or status quote.
They also expect me to wait forever at a restaurant for a $4 doller order. Nope! I'm not doing it, and I shouldn't be punished for walking away. This is supposed to be self-employment. I should be able to make my own choices and not be punished for avouding what doesn'tmake sense. Comply, or we'll threaten you with deactation.
I'm literally about to start a protest at our state capable because Doordash should not be getting away with this bullshit.

My brother. You work in the gig economy. You strike me as entitled and you whine a lot. Man up,bruh. If you think you "deserve" $20 to $25 an hour consistently, all day, everyday, then get out the gig economy and learn a trade or something. Stop whining. Everyone in the gig economy will get lower offers mixed in with great offers. So either accept the reality of that, or get another job. Truth is,in a lot of markets, that dollar amount you want will never be a consistent reality. In my market I average $15 to $17 consistently and make around $150 a day with about six hours active time, seven or a little more inactive time. All this complaining and entitlement is just old. Find another job then.
