  • We dug almost ever day last week. Starting with a nice wood lined privy and then we actually got some help with a backhoe out at DD ridge bottle dump. It was a fantastic week, great weather, outstanding auctions, and lots of saved History. Thanks to everyone of you for your continued support.

Hey ya'll, I just came across your channel when I searched how to clean old bottles, btw its nice to see someone besides myself that says Crick, lol. I have a question, I have just started my collection, I have just a few old bottles, they were given to me except for 2 that I found out rock hunting. How do you know where to hunt bottles at, and how do you identify what they are? I live in Saline County in Southern Illinois, we have lots of farm land and cricks, I want to be respectful to the land owners. I know ya'll are super busy, but any tips you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time be safe and God bless 🙏

FW Fitch Boone, IA hair tonic bottle (1892-1917)
Frederick Walter Fitch founded the F.W. Fitch Company in Boone, Iowa in 1892, and also owned a barbershop. Fitch's first product was a hair tonic labeled "Ideal Hair Grower and Dandruff Cure." Later products included the "Fitch scientific scalp treatment."
Fitch moved his business to Des Moines at 15th and Walnut Streets in 1917. The company did well throughout the early 20th century and during World War II but saw a decline in hair product sales after the war due to the loss of military contracts.
In 1949, Fitch sold The F.W. Fitch Company to Grove Laboratories in St. Louis.

Not liking the ash, surprised to see bottles not cracked nor broken after being fired. At a bottle meeting we saw a 1790's clear bottle from his display case (China cabinet), later, while during the meeting, we hear ting sound, it broke. He said he had another one that did the same thing. He said he got the bottles from an ash pit.

You fellas need a four prong potato fork with the two outside forks cut off, and shorten the handle to about
12 to 14 inches. It works really good for loosening hard soil and ash down in the hole. Do you ever sift any of your outhouses on the back fill. Have found a few coins, marbles and tokens that way. Great video, nice finds.

I've been obsessing about that for years, such that I made one in 2007-2×4s and 1/4" square netting, galvanised. I've since refined the design-srainless netting, new oak standard 14x22" design- I advertise in American Digger. I use all the time, and have found great smalls.

I really never thought I'd see the end of Double Diamond. It's been quite the lucrative dump for you two and for some reason I'm saddened to see it go. Those two whiskey's were wicked nice. That square whiskey is killer I’ve seen other diggers dig sample size square whiskeys but I haven’t seen a big embossed one before

Your welcome btw do either you or Clayton know about antique bottles .net it’s a nice place where a lot of bottle collectors and hunters are and share there collections and vast amount of knowledge especially from the old timers there. It’s a great place if you got questions about bottles which could help with your auctions. Anyways keep up the good work!
