Back in grade school, in Wisconsin of all places, I was in a Boy Scout troop and we named ourselves the “wombat troop” (or pack or whatever, I wasn’t much into the constraints of scouting). That said, we even had our own cheer ( we didn’t know enough to consider doing it in an Aussie accent though). It went...

Hey JS, Thats a good memory no doubt,its more of a snuffle than a snort,specially when their hungry and sniffing (or snufflling!!) for roots and young shoots of plants. These guys are probably one of the strongest vegans you are ever likely to meet. The "torque" of a wombats push is unbelievable,i.e. he wants u out of his space and confronts you,if u are quick enough to avoid his teeth u can put pressure on top of his head to keep his mouth down,now...this has only bought u some time,you are now steadily going backwards,and will continue to b pushed the length of the paddock or enclosure all day long if u don't implement an exit strategy and jump a fence, or climb a tree,u will lose a one sided battle with the Alpha Vegan...😡
I used to work at a place called Waratah Park,they used to film the Australian show "Skippy',basically about the adventures of a young boy and a Kangaroo, which was actually a Wallaby,(smaller cousin of a Roo) Anyway they had Eagles,Wallabies,Goanna's (large lizard, good size one's get to 5-6 foot long) but my favourite..the Wombats... I had to clean the cages and feed em etc, so i did have a laugh at matey hosing the wombat enclosure and bugging out! Been there and did exactly the same thing many times!! Their sense of smell is greater than their eyesight,so if u persevere over time they will settle down a little bit,thats when u really fall in love with them Snufflers.

@@murrayhowe8388 yeah, but understand this was a young me up in Wisconsin back in the 70s. There were no UA-cams of wombats back then, and all we knew was what we found in the encyclopedia. We could tell they were cute little buggers though.

Used to get the “cool, is that a wolf!” question way to exuberantly, so that’s my little euphemism (they may have a touch of lupus but certainly more shepherd). Very good dogs they are! Cheers!

last night a possum snuck up on me and it scared me a lot. This video changed my perceptions of Wombats in two ways. Firstly, I didn't realise they could be that fast. Always assumed they were slow, lethargic creatures. Secondly, it suddenly struck me how much they remind me of Molerats from Fallout.

During the bushfires, a lot of smaller animals survived, because they ran and hid in the wombat tunnels.

Back in the 70's the motorcycle company Hodaka had a motocross model named the Combat Wombat. Interesting company and bikes.
I raced the combat wombat along with stock trail 90s. The wombat wasn't very reliable though. I couldn't kill the trail 90s though. Still miss both bikes.

My favorite wombat fact is that they live in the wild in the US but most people think they don't. You can find them in Texas.
