Your content is seriously impressive. I wish more people would take the time to make quality videos like you do.
Sucks that the algorithm has started favoring shorter videos because you deserve to be known.
Thank you so much, it's comments like yours that make the difference, much appreciated! 🙇
One of the best reviews I've seen. Great job!
Thank you so much! 🙇♂
I’ve watched hours of videos on this board and this is by far the best video in terms of quality and information. Your channel should be massive because you deserve it. Thank you for making this. 🙏🏻
Thanks a lot! Glad I could help 🙂
agreed
Keen to see your review of the Q3!
Once again, honest and in-depth review. I recently purchase the full size K10 with red switches. Out of the box, not to bad. Still thinking about modifying the K10. Would be my first mod 😯
you make such wonderful videos. I feel like you are generous in taking this much time. very inspiring quality!
Thank you! 😊
Thanks to this amazing keyboard I found this amazing channel. Easy like + sub for this quality. I am looking for a keyboard for a month now and actually, I am trying to decide on Q2 or Optimum Tech's keyboard. Btw I didn't know there was a brass plate option. I will definitely go with that so thanks.
Fantastic and thorough review. Congrats!
Thank you! 😄
Amazing review, very high quality! Really surprising you don't have more subs, well you earned a sub from me. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the sub! 🙂
I've placed an order for Q3. Can't wait to get my hands on it
The typing test look like a stop motion movie :) Awesome review man!
Thank you! 😀
What a review man, great job
Thank you, glad you liked it! 🙂
Awesome content! Well done!
Thank you! 😄
Excellent vid
Thank you! 🙂
love your thoughts on this!
Thank you! Glad you liked it! 🙂
Yes you can remove the flex, 3mm PE foam in the bottom will make a soft contact with the board and support it rather firmly
Nice review 👌
After the nk65, there was the kbd67 lite (my first custom), then the gmmk pro, q1, q2 and more coming, I cannot wait for what’s to come to this hobby as more premium keyboards become more and more accessible!
What do you think to the nk65 might get it as my first custom keyboard
@@alex34533 I don’t own an nk65, but I did hear some awesome things about it. First, the kit comes with a carrying case and a nice cable. The keyboard case is made from polycarbonate which offers a deep and rich sound, if u wish to have a deeper sound signature I’d recommend switches like the inks or epsilons. Plus, NK offers some amazing dye sub PBT sets with an affordable price.
@@Cypekrown I really appreciate the advice man, hope you have a good day
@@alex34533 but there’s another alternative, the nk87 EE, it is now on sale and it’s 20 bucks cheaper than the NK65, it’s basically the TKL version of nk65, But keep in mind it has an F14 keys and tsangan bottom row, and it’s slightly harder to find a set that fits.
@@alex34533 also no problem :)
Isn’t it crazy how far we’ve come in the keyboard space since this video. Insane.
Im from from Hong Kong and helped a few of my friends built a Q1,Q2 and Q3. They are always around 50% off on Taobao keychron official store (around 90 - 100 usd) it is crazy value for that price considering its only slightly more expensive than feker ik75 or next time 75
Thanks for the detailed vid, ordered a Q3 as I haven't tried a gasket mount before. Quick question do these foam gaskets "flatten" over time sort of like how sofa/pillow cushions do and need replacing eventually?
I got the same gray Q2. Also with fully assembled Reds but I've already swapped with Akko Jelly Black, taped PCB and re-lubed the stabs. But maybe I still need to switch out keycaps and maybe a little more foam... also thinking to switch out for a FR4 plate. Not really bad for price but there's a really good other deals out there.
Do the keycaps work Akko Jelly Blacks? what will you swap them out with?
@@ToufiqRahman17 Jelly Blacks work with stock keycaps, haven't swap them out yet.
I have the Q2 - swapped the cherry reds for Drop pandas (although I think I'm going to try Oil Kings next) and had been using MT3 keycaps, but recently switched them up to the cherry profile PBTFans Klein Blues, which I really so far. The front edge is a little tall, which would be my primary reason to look for another 65, but other than that I like the board. I foamed the space bar, which was my major sound complaint. I am looking for another 65 though now, just to try something different.
Nice review, I have one myself. However I have to correct you a little as the stock plate the Q2 comes with is Steel not aluminium. I purchased the PC plate however decided to switch up to an FR4 plate. Still awaiting the arrival of the FR4 plate. I tape modded the PCB, used PE foam switch pads and added 2 layers of 0.5mm PE foam along with Boba U4T switches, loving it so far.
When you use 2 layers of PE foam do you add both between the switches and pcb or?
@@sorryfoo For the switches I use the PE foam switch pads that I have lying around. The 2 pcs of 0.5mm PE foam is what I have to make it into a 1mm piece of PE foam for the case. 1mm max thickness of foam thickness is what I recommend if u want it to still have that flex. Else go nuts with the case foam if u don’t mind lack of flex and want the thocc
Thanks, I appreciate the explanation 🤝
My bad, you're totally right 🙇
I would have have loved to try out the FR4 plate myself if it would habe been available at the time.
Tell me about how the fr4 compares pls
i love this channel!
Thank you! 😀
Amazing video! Would love to see you check out the Zoom65 (essential edition specifically)
Thank you! 🙌 The Zoom65 looks very interesting, maybe I'll check it out in the future and thanks for referencing it! 🙂
3:42, look at the details! Your content is pretty high quality!
Thank you! 😊
A fantastic review, very well done :)
Can't wait to start my journey with its bigger brother, the Q5 QMK
And on the offchance you still recall, but does the track used for the chapter 'Fashionably Late' have a name?
Thank you very much for your work :D
Thank you very much! 🙂
Hope you're gonna love the Q5! The song used is called "Rise Up Late by Soleil", you can listen to it here: ua-cam.com/video/ppP9-X5DiC8/v-deo.html
Hey, would you mind me asking what the tiny panel with the two dials and keys is at 0:37?
I couldn't find it in the description.
Also, those keycaps at 14:22 are gorgeous, where are they from?
Crazy buttery intro btw~
Oh, that thing is the Frankenstein from EZYKeys: geni.us/THaOB (I also made a video about it, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/9n_sWEGmp-w/v-deo.html)
If you end up getting it, don't forget to use the code "cheese" to get 5% off :)
Regarding the caps, those are the "DROP + MATT3O /DEV/TTY MT3" and you can get them from Drop: drop.com/buy/drop-matt3o-devtty-custom-keycap-set
ps: thanks a lot! much appreciated 😀
I just picked up my first mechanical board and ended up getting the keychron V series. I was first set on the K, then the Q and settled on the V. I think I made the right choice. Like you said in another video, don't overthink it.
Yeah you did especially if you got it on sale. I prefer the thocky sound of the Keychron V1 for cheap boards. The Q1 just doesn't feel or sound good enough at that premium pricepoint. I bought the barebones Q1 for $100 and honestly I am disappointed with it. Spend a little more on a QK Neo board and it is a whole different experience if you want to upgrade to something higher quality
@@morgan3625 so after writing this they came out with a new board and I was still able to return the V1 and ended up getting the V5 max instead and I'm even happier with my purchase. I didn't get this one on sale, but I do like it a lot more. It has the poly plate instead of the steel, wireless, more compact with still keeping the num pad.
"It glows with all its might, but no one will ever know" haha you just nabbed yourself a subscriber with that one!
Honestly the knob and low price makes it special enough
The quality of this content is remarkable...
Thank you so much 😊
great review! whats the wired device you have in front of your monitor with the fox on it?
That's the "Wireless Block Charger" from Native Union and Tom Dixon, it's a bit hard to come by these days. They don't have it on Native Unions site anymore as far as I know but it sometimes shows up on Tom Dixons website: www.tomdixon.net/eu/block-wireless-station-brushed-silver.html 🙂
really cool keyboard. You just made me put on slow speed to check the first hidden frame, :D. Have no idea what that is. The second one, though, I think is the GK.
First one is the Geistmaschine, second one is the Owlab Spring 🙂
On the topic of front height, I'm someone with sensitive wrists and boards like the Q1, KBD75 and Tofu were pretty uncomfortable after gaming or typing longer than 20 minutes. Of course, switching from 67g switches in my boards to 55g helped a lot as well, but low front height boards like the Bakeneko, Vega and Mode boards are only 3mm shorter but make all the difference
I have a Q2 and the front height is rough for sure. Those bakeneko 65's are looking good to me right now.
I'm having this dilemma also. I have big hands but the height still feels too much.
@@mpresto15 I ended up doing a few things. 1 - I ordered a Keebwerk Mega65 which has a low chin height and only a 3% angle. I put oil kings and MT3 Dasher on it and it feels more comfortable than the Q2. I did put some cherry profiles on the Q2 and that helped, the MT3's just added too much to the height, despite sounding awesome. The cherry profiles helped a lot but I'm finding the Mega65 more comfortable to type on for longer periods. I still like the Q2 but i need to find the right switch and keycap profile combo for it. I have Drop Panda switches on it, and i'm not sure i'm a huge fan yet.
Which of the 3 do you prefer? Keychron Q2 barebone, Mojo68 or D65 DIY KIT? I think to put some black ink v2 switches but I still can't decide between the 3, the price doesn't matter. Thanks
Got d65, QK65 and Q2
D65 - most stiff, most flexible in terms of plate options/sound, and is the heaviest among the 3
Qk65 - Most elegant among the 3, but it's also a foam board, meaning it's a make or break board if you want a board with out foam
Q2 - imo most available in stock, not that competitive compared to Qk and d65
So I'll rank em as
D65
QK65
Q2
I would love to hear your opinion on a Akko Board
really nice video. subscribed. whats the keyboard coming out in spring youre alluding to?
Thank you! 🙂 That was/is the Owlab Spring: owlab.notion.site/owlab/Spring-Sale-Info-updating-a3b71fc672464027a2676527a1a0d142
The sale is unfortunately already over, maybe they'll do an R2 but they haven't said anything for now.
@@CheeseTurbulence thank you!
Can you please send a link to the cylindrical light used at like 5:55
It's called the Nanlite PavoTube II 6C: en.nanlite.com/products/detail/PavoTube-II-6C
Those clickies sound so good imo. I wouldn't use them over my favorite switches, but I wouldn't mind it if they were in my board.
Wait, the Keychron Q2 non-pro is not wireless right? at 14:30, you say that we loose the wireless connectivity if we go for this instead of the K6.
Yeah, I meant that you will loose the wireless from the K6 if you go for the Q2. At the time there was no Q2 Pro that had wireless 🙂
If this dude keeps it up, he'll be the reviews king in no time at all. The 6:45 transition graphic (stock lube -> re-lubed) is *chef's kiss*
aww, the jab at Geist xD
Great review, but can anyone tell me what is the epilog/outro music? Much appreciated
Thanks 🙂! Do you mean the song that starts at 16:38? That's something I mangled up together from the chords of "Pumped Up Kicks" and only exists as that little piece.
I have the Q2 and it’s fine. I bought the KBD67 Lite as an experimental board and I haven’t touched the Q2 since. And now I find myself flirting with the QK65, which is the clear winner between the 3. If you’re in the market for a 65, do yourself a favor and look at Qwerty Keys.
I'm looking to build a 65 which should have a nice thock. Would you still day the QK65 is the best choice?
@@pabl0191 I never bought the qk65. The 67 lite with a cheap PE sheet sounds the same to my ears and saves money. But it’s plastic.
@@DMCnME hmm okay I just looked everywhere and it's nowhere in stock anyways lol so I might take a look at the 67 lite although I don't know if I'm a fan of a plastic case. Thanks for the quick answer anyways:)
@@pabl0191 For what it’s worth, if you use PBT caps, all nylon switches and a pe sheet on any board… you’ll get a deeper sound. At least in my experience.
@@DMCnME thx so much I'll keep that in mind
@Cheese Turbulence - I hope you see this message...
But can you please let me know what USB-C cable you use on your board in the video?
And those incredible keycaps at 15:20 in the video.
Much appreciated
The keycap set is called "GMK Bushido", you might still find it in stock somewhere.
The USB-C cable unfortunately came with my audio interface from Arturia (Audiofuse 8Pre) 😬
I tried to check if they sell it separately and it seems that they don't...
@@CheeseTurbulence Thank you for getting back to me with the details, very much appreciated.
Have a great day.
From one Kaas to another Cheese
Thanks! You have a great day too! 🙂
What's the music that begins around 1:30?
Haha, the geistmaschine cough! Anyways, good review on the Q2!
hero of the show is def that nanotube. do you do the aperure overehead aswell?
The tube light is indeed awesome 🙂 and yep, got the C300D II with a lantern, if you want to see how it's setup, I got a short rundown of the light in my desk/studio video: ua-cam.com/video/AzVn5H0ZNVM/v-deo.html
@@CheeseTurbulence ah! really cool man. I appreciate it!
Let's gooooo!!!!
a tkl version of this would be nice, as a programmer, i need those extra keys: end to go to end of line, insert for pasting in linux, ...
There's a tkl version called the Q3 that's out in the market now. There's even an upcoming 1800 layout, the Q5 coming soon.
Asus has a wireless 65% keyboard for $140 USD that will check a lot of boxes
doesn't have backlit key caps. why ship it with key caps at all?
where did you get that desk lamp?
It’s a Nanlite PavoTube 6C 🙂
@@CheeseTurbulence thanks for that
My dream is for the q2 to be wireless
Q3 is coming soon, I heard
Speaking for a Q1 V2, you don't have to disconnect the keyboard, load the json file into VIA and the plug it in again. It's enough to just start VIA and drag & drop the json file in. No need for disconnecting the board.
Very nice vid! Sub $200 boards I like: KBD67Lite, QK65, Ikki68 Aurora, Tofu65, Tofu60
Oh boi the QK is just gorgeous
Thanks! 🙂
knob always add a special touch to a device
Agree, even though I still don't really know what I would use it for other than volume 😅
Laughs in NJ80
the "s" has not eaten in days
bruh.... 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Stock is not aluminum plate, but steel plate.
Yep, I got that wrong 😑
stock one is steel plate
Correct, that was a mistake on my side 🙂
The stock photos make it look like a matte grey colour, but your videos look more like normal silver.
I think the stock photos are a bit misleading, it's definitely more of a silver than grey. It looks good though, but it was brighter than expected for me as well 🙂
what is the deal with the VIA though? Why can't they just put it in... weird.
mannn this keyboard makin me horn e
I made the mistake of buying a Keychron K7. What I received was NOT wireless (no dongle included) and, when connected by USB cable, many keys did not work. Keychron ignored all my requests for an RMA and a refund.
Before buying anything from Keychron, think! Do you want to give your money to a company that treats its customers this way?
I want your japanese keyboard so bad
I love those kaycaps.. where did you get them?
ua-cam.com/video/vyGleMZVpwg/v-deo.html
give clickies a chance (if you have the money/time/patience)! Blue click jacket is just about the worst experience you could have with a clicky switch, kailh's click bar switches(eg box navy, box white) are great, and zeal clickiez are supposedly worlds better. If you spring for either click bar or clickiez and end up hating the noise, you can remove the click elements from the switches and end up with some pretty decent linears, too.
Nk sherbets are also really good clickies too
Like
:)
Ironic that they are called "custom keyboards" yet they lack adjustable angle.
Your content quality doesn’t match your subscriber count. It feels like I’m watching a video by a top hardware reviewer, but I glance over to see

intro is way too loud
So annoyingly unnecessary putting music over your accented narrative. Had to move on. Why dumb it down with music over your important words?🤷🏼♀️😇
Hopefully the Q3 iso barebones comes in stock again soon. Been using my moded k8 for a year now and the Q3 looks amazing.
