Recorded by Trombone Shorty on his 2011 album For True and featuring Rebirth Brass Band and 5th Ward Weebie, this hot tune has a funky New Orleans style groove with a moderate tempo and catchy riffs. The trombones get the spotlight to start with, followed by tight ensemble playing and later space for a trombone soloist.

The lead trombone player in my Jazz band did the solo, and he happened to be short. It was a subtle nod to “Trombone Shorty.”
For my fellow guitar players, just groove during this tune. It can help to capture the feeling of the original if you approach less as a jazz player and more as a funk player.
I mean, it’s a heavy funk tune, not a jazz tune. Sure, you play funk in jazz, but it’s a sub-genre that doesn’t use that swing or smooth-tight switches. I’m sure you know this, I just think others will need to see this and this comment is kinda the perfect opportunity for that.

Yeah it’s not even that it’s a hard song at all it’s just so stressful starting the tempo.
Playing this tune for jazz band during my junior year and at first the counting was a struggle meal in its self but I’ve gotten down and got all the ghost notes and accents and even made up some lil fill in myself and can’t wait to play it next week for our spring concert
I'm a senior in high school, were doing this song for jazz band, and since I'm now lead trombone I get to play the solo. At first I thought it was impossible but its finally starting to come together. This video helped a lot. Thanks!

I did this piece as a bassist in my schools jazz band, it's so fun to play
haven't heard this song in years. played it for jazz band in 6th grade (even though i wasn't supposed to be in jazz band because it was only for 7th and 8th graders but my band teacher knew i played piano rly well so he made an exception for me) and it just brings back so many memories of just groovin with the rhythm section and the rest of the band. good times, good times

@@mazon33 It´s perfect, because as it says in the beginning at the left topside corner, it is "Heavy Funk". And Funk is all about that staccato and that tight feeling.
