Narcissistic partners will hate you for the same thing that there were attracted by when they first meet you. If you have a certain style, a certain way to laugh, anything they will make fun of it after, or try to change you. Saying you look bad like this, or do not wear this or this because you look like a w***re or whatever, if you like reading they will make fun of it, or will complain that you buy too much books… and so on. It is such a peace when you leave, even if the healing journey is so hard, it is worth it!

Even with this insight, it didn't stop my ex partner, his mom, father and he himself putting me down, disrespect me and treat me like I was nothing. Everything just to be on their terms and I had to always apologise to them even it wasn't my fault, because I had to adjust to them and that's how it is in society. Cried nights, had anxiety, depression and basically a mental breakdown and now having health issues to deal with. But they are happy loving their life and happily with other people.

Holy crap. I truly thought I was lacking something, and I literally tapdanced as fast as I could overachieving for her because I thought that was what she wanted. I was first chair flute, flag captain, and drum major in Band. I was an editor of the school paper. President of the Drama Club. Won dozens of medals in events. I took ballet, tap, and modern dance. If there was something I thought would make her happy, I would do it, and as long as it reflected on her, she was happy. Like when I became Drum Major and she was congratulated on my achievement every Friday night, so that was something that made her happy. But otherwise, she acted like my activities were a waste of time and effort. And now I know why. It’s so disorienting to realize it was never really about me.

Yet his favourite thing to do in his family was to abuse me and my mother

They hate you for not being perfect because it means they are forced to associate with lowly imperfect beings which means they aren't perfect either. They don't care if you have empathy any more than they care if a rock has empathy.
When you go shopping for a new outfit you're excited about the possibilities and opportunities that might come because of your new outfit you worked hard and saved up for. You show it off happily to others. Then you realize it doesn't quite fit or there's a stain you didn't notice when you bought it or you get a rip. Then you get your outfit dirty wearing it all day and take it off because it doesn't feel good anymore it's uncomfortable to wear for too long or you have to suck it in to fit.
You throw your shiny new but now worn outfit into the hamper. Then it's washed and you put it away in your closer. You just debuted your new outfit to everyone...you can't be seen wearing it again. At least not right away.
So there it sits. This new outfit you worked hard and saved up for. It's less exciting now. You second guess if it was really worth all the money you spent on it. Then you forget about your new outfit and wear other outfits or go shopping again.
Weeks later you wear your outfit again but you're less enthusiastic about it the second time around. It's just another piece in your wardrobe now. You still like it a lot but you don't LOVE it anymore like when you first bought it and first got complimented on it. You know about the imperfect mystery stain that NEVER seems to wash out. The tags are itchy but sewn in so you can't cut them off without ruining the material. It has to be dry cleaned not thrown into the washer and dryer. It's a bit of a hassle.
You get busy with work and life and start going back to your old worn comfy scrubs while your high maintenance dazzling outfit just hangs there waiting, unused, abandoned. But what do you care? It's just clothes for your use and to meet your needs.
One day you get frustrated at your outfit and try ti give it some alterations because it is mow last season and you don't want to buy more new clothes right now or can't afford to spend the extra money so you work with what you've got.
For a while you are excited again about alterations and debut your outfit again. You show off and get compliments but some of the stitches come loose and it snags on something while you're out and you get frustrated again.
After a while you feel like you have too many clothes and you're tired of all the laundry and organizing.
You donate a bunch of items including your mow worn out altered outfit. It just doesn't suit you anymore and your nody changed and it's just no longer fashionable or flattering on your frame.
You feel better after getting rid of a bunch of old boring worn out clothes and don't give it a second thought when you update your wardrobe with some newer, more trendy, more stylish in season statement pieces.
You are that outfit to the narcissist. They don't care about if you have empathy or not they just want to wear you when your new and get rid of you when you're worn and used and they soiled themselves while wearing you out.
