    I did this with a home-caned bottle of old beets, (strained, of course) a cup of vinegar, a healthy shake of salt and some water. It worked! I LOVE the colour it turned out!! I have pink paper!!

    I think I would just add them one at a time on top of each other so I don't have to flip and hope for good coverage, then let them sit a bit, and maybe try blending a fresh beet

    I lay the papers on insulated cookie sheets, also place the French paper doilies that have been soaked just 3 or 4 minutes on top. I admit I only dry one at a time when getting the lace pattern. Hope this tip helps someone !

    If you use vinegar, you are adding an acidic element which is not good for paper or the ink you will put on it. I add baking soda to neutralize the acid. If the paper and ink break down over time, it really devalues journals. We want our beautiful journals to last a long time… right? I love the color I get with baking soda addition and the peace of mind that the journals I use and gift, will be around for a long time.

      Acid in art products isn't great. It will eventually turn brown. Archival quality has non acidic papers and glues. Also, I stay away from food products because food products can mold. Mold and mildew are the arch enemy of glue and paper.

      @thedillwinkle do you add baking soda AND vinegar or just baking soda?

    • @Dillwinkle
      @Dillwinkle 2 роки тому +3

      @@craftinginmypjs953 only baking soda. You want to eliminate the acid. No vinegar.

    Why not put one in at a time so you don't have to abuse the paper after it's wet...just leave them in and put another on top...I love the color but would never put them in the way you did and have to try and to get the color in-between after they are wet

    Do you think jello would work effectively?? It's cheap and has many colors. Maybe adding vinegar to it as well would help set it?????

      Way too expensive to buy beet powder!! Buy canned beets from the grocery store and use that beet juice - super fast and way cheaper - or buy fresh! 😁❤️

      Beet Root Powder is very expensive, even at HomeGoods in the Wellness section. If you want to save money, you can buy some canned sliced beets at your grocery store - they’re delicious! - and use the leftover beet juice to dye your papers. Or you can buy fresh beets, boil them in water, and use that water to dye your papers! I love beets, my mom always bought canned but I usually buy fresh and they’re so yummy with butter on them…mmmmmmmm 😁❤️

    Vinegar is acidic. Isn't that a problem? When coffee or tea dying, you need to add baking soda to cut down on the acidity. But if you add it with vinegar, it would neutralize the effect you're after.

      That’s my question too. Vinegar is pretty acidic. What will be the consequences later, will the paper last. After all, anything with “archival “ qualities is acid-free

      I think beets are alkaline? So not sure if that would balance it out but yeah.. same thoughts here too
