  • When cutting with a diode laser, a laser bed is key for good results. But, should you DIY / build a laser bed or is it better to just buy one?
    Here we compare a few different DIY Laser Beds vs. a honey comb bought laser bed.
    This is a DEWALLIE Honeycomb Laser Bed from MadeTheBest

    We are using an xtool D1, but this will work with all diode lasers for other brands such as Ortur, NEJE and similar as well. It will even work for CO2 lasers.

    How about useing cooker hood metal filter as a bed? Much cheaper than these honeycomb laser beds.

    The aluminium beds are no good imo, better select a steel one so that you can use small magnets to hold your material down.

    The prices of honeycomb beds are just outrageous, some of them cost the same or more than some diode laser modules :D and the other downside besides the price is that i cant find any with dimensions for my custom laser area 325x860mm :(

      @@dz4691 I just do projects that don't require honeycomb bed on this one, or if I need to cut I put the material some other way. I have also a co2 laser that I use for cutting

    Be aware when buying the honeycomb bed shown, the dimensions are total, not cutting bed size. So if you buy one to use for commonly available material, 200mm x 300mm, a 200mm x 300mm honeycomb bed, say for a k40, will not be big enough.

    I went DIY first, ended up buying a honeycomb bed.
    fixed it to the wooden base where I fixed the engraver, so now things don't move, at all. way more precise so I waste less materials.

    I'd hoped for a little more in depth comparison, in the future you might show how identical final products ended up on each combo. Either way, I hadn't thought of making my own spacers nor the wooden honeycomb mesh to put on top- it's so obvious that I smack my forehead a bit. Since I already have the wood and am short on cash this will suffice as I learn the ropes with my new S30 Pro extended to 900x900mm- so fun to work with!

    CAN I USE THIS TO CUT FABRIC SHAPES???

    • @JamesW81
      @JamesW81 Рік тому

      Should be able to, as long as your fabric is taped down and you have an air assist modification. Without the air assist it's likely the fabric will ignite.
