My dog was like that with my daughter when she was little, as soon as she went to bed he would go into the room with her and lay in front of her crib and stay there til she woke up. They had a brilliant relationship. Even now shes almost 24 and he's long gone she still has his picture in her room. RIP Odie.

Now that is exactly how a German Shepherd should be living. Given a serious job to do on work hours with one boss, and then he can chill with his family time. The fact his 'alone time' is respected by the family, is so right. This man understands his dog's needs and that is so joyful for me. There are so many people who do not meet their dog's needs in any way and the poor dog gets blamed and ends up on death row. Bravo to this exceptional family and dog pack leader!

The most important part of a police dog's training is knowing when he's on duty and when he isn't. Sonny knows how to take his job seriously, but he also knows it's important to be friendly towards his family (especially the baby).
Not only does Sonny allow the baby to take the toy from him, but when he takes it back, he does it so gently. He carefully picks it up with his mouth, careful not to accidentally bite her fingers. So sweet!!
It really shows how smart dogs are. This ain't a cuddle dog either its a police dog who is trained to attack criminals and yet he can be soo very considerate with this little baby its absolutely amazing how smart and empathic they are.
First, dogs can smell that it’s your baby, because the baby smells like mom and dad. :) We see so many animals being naturally protective of the babies... and it’s heart melting.
I had a cat who would attack those adults who didn't live in the same home as her and me. My nephew at the time he was two. He picked her up. And all I could think was. "Kid you must have a death wish." She didn't do jack stuff to him. This same cat a few years later was about to attack the social worker when she held my newborn. That cat actually growled at the SW. Same cat would not harm my kid at all. She was that protective of my daughter. Same scent. Been nearly 12 years since she crossed the rainbow bridge. I miss my Psychopathical Cat.

Wonderful doggo & kiddo... but unless that's only a bomb dog, K9 cops tend to be the kind of cops that give cops a bad name. *I have had my car searched twice on TOTAL BS by K9 cops who've trained their dogs to "alert" by command* (as opposed to smelling drugs or bombs or whatever else.) And trust me, they search rather roughly. Pull out panels etc. Why? Because I don't consent to searches though I have nothing to hide (that I know of... but the laws are so broad you could never _actually_ know.) Thus they bring corrupt K9 cops up to search. Your rights as a citizen are just so much TRASH. They have the guns. Is this guy one of them? Odds are he is. It's just how cops work. Black American are OVERreacting... but they ain't reacting for no reason. I'd rather see this shepherd at home shepherding his ward.

it is very dangerous to be licked up in the face by a dog, there are terrible parasites waiting there, like the echinococcus granulosus, which can colonize the human internal organs and grow to the size of a child's head

That's a shepherd. Intelligence, fierceness, gentleness, loyalty and protective. I saw a pic in a newspaper once of the two faces of the police dog. One showed Jim at work, teeth showing and snarling at bad guy who dutifully will drop faster with that facing them than a gun, and the other at home with three little girls of varying ages all over him and he's rolled over with his paws gently on one of their face. Such a beautiful complex animal.
My German shepherd was very protective of me. He warned anyone that came near us that he wouldn't let them harm us. He would let me climb on his back and stand still and let me pretend he was a pony. They truly are magnificent and very intelligent. Great video 😊❤
I remember riding on the back of our Alsatian dog as a toddler, she was beautiful and so gentle. My mother would tie her lead to our pram ( I’m a twin) and leave us outside the shop as she popped in, no one dared to come near us, she was so protective.
Sonny dog has a very organized mind. He has a mode for when he's doing police work during the day, and he completely had another mode of behavior for at home. Then, after the baby was born, he added a third set of rules when he's with this smaller person. He knew right away that the play struggle with the larger guy, over the toy, was not how to play with the child. He's a smart one.
My sister had a Great Dane, she would play each of us separately, in very different ways: With my niece it was fetch and a few (obviously) play growls as my niece got the ball back from her, or just drop the ball at my niece's feet and go lay down next to my niece and wait for the next throw. With my sister she would bat her paws on my sister's ankles when they were playing with each other. Me, well she just tackled me! But we did other things together as well.... I always felt relieved with her being there, since there were a few cases where someone started yelling at either one of HER Humans, they would get "the look"! The one that lets someone know that if they made a move like they were going to hurt HER Humans, she would attack!!! Trained to Come, Sit, and Fetch (as well as House Training), no guard dog training, just a dog realizing that Her 2 small humans (my sister is under 5 feet (less than 1.5m) tall) were her's to protect...
@@timengineman2nd714 That's funny. My old golden retriever named Cleo would tackle the back of my legs in such a way to make me fall, then steal a hat or a mitt and refuse to give it back. The angrier I got the more fun she had. The only solution was to pretend to not care about the item and wait til she lost interest and dropped it. If she saw you going back for it though she would snatch it up again. Finally I would just go back inside and come back out hours later to retrieve my tuque from the snowbank.
I've always loved doing the opposite with people's dogs at the dog park. They initially try to play with me like they would with their owner, very reserved not pulling too hard. I show them I can take it and dish it out and they warm up to playing with me how they play with other dogs. Full strength contests of will, and jumpies and nips, and I give it all back.
That was so amazing to hear that he never gives up a toy to the Dad but he lets go immediately when the baby wants it. That baby BTW is so pretty. Dogs have something extra. They sense emotion, danger, the innocence of children. They’re incredible.
Dogs often tailor their play to what they think their partner can handle. With dad the game IS can you take this from me. But that's not appropriate with the baby and it knows that. When that baby is older it might do a bit more "nuh uh, you gotta take it!" but till then it's going to be very gentle with the new fragile human pup.
Police dogs generally present a personal danger. They frequently maul and disfigure suspects. Often innocent people. Putting a police dog with a baby is pure stupidity. This kid will end up injured or dead and the Dodo promotes this idiocy.

I've had three German Shepherds the first being Max when I was 7 years old. I've always call them the 'Ambassador" dogs because they're so gentle with children in spite of their size. I can't count the number of times a child would say "Look, it's the big bad wolf" and two minutes later, they're petting the dog while he wags his tail. He was famous in my neighborhood for how sweet he was with children. My Duke loved the attention and even had two young girls who would knock on the door and ask "Can Duke come out and play?" and I watched them put azalea leaves on his head.😂🧡
My gsd is very afraid of people (especially men) and will bark and back away from 99.99% of people but she is always so sweet and gentle and tolerant of little kids. The first time she met my nephews she made me cry because she was quiet and brave and after introductions she let the 2 y/o pet her and didn't mind when he touched her ears or tail or give her hugs, she let him feed her treats (which she only usually accepts from about 6 people), she wasn't posessive when her held her favourite toy and she liked to follow him around and stood in his way to protect him if he went near any stairs... She was so sad when they left that she sulked for the rest of the day until the next morning. It still kills me every time they see each other. My nephew adores her and she is totally patient and tolerant of him that to her, he can do no wrong. At Christmas he kept leading her into the pantry to hide her from the noise that she wasn't enjoying, 'secretly' offer her treats and talk reassuringly to her. She's just the best girl.

1:38 it's because most dogs understand that they can't play as rough with babies and they know they have to be gentle. so instead of playing "fight for the toy" he lets her have it, knowing he could accidentally hurt her if he played rough.

I’ve had 3 German Shepherd boys, and currently have a 6 year old German Shepherd girl. Without doubt, all of them have been absolutely fantastic and gentle with not only my kids at the time, but with my grandkids and kids in general. A breed like no other. ❤️
Definitely, and if you notice this breed hasn't been as genetically modified like other ones like pugs. These are just adjusted by removing their instinct of launching at prey, just hearding them. It's beautiful to see a dog closer to what they naturally should look like and are healthier for it.
@@tytania3545 sadly this isn’t true, most German Shepard’s develop arthritis problems in their backs, hips, and paws when they are sadly still fairly young due to breeding. If you notice the only German Shepard’s that have a strait back that doesn’t slant backwards are working ones. This is because they are a different line of german Shepard essentially, that’s not been messed with to make them backs slope down for looks.
Probably because you trained them well and socialized them early. Don't be mistaken cause any dog breed can be dangerous. I not long saw a video with one who participated in biting off a woman's face. The owners play a big part in the dog's behaviour.
It a simple matter of pack dynamics if done right any dog will defend any pack member with their life. And share the role of ‘baby sitting’ as needed. It why dogs and humans are such a good fit for each other both share social group dynamics and shared a hunting style which is quite rare Persistence Hunting and we complimented each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Ah I sometimes wonder how differently humans history would have gone without the symbolic relationship we developed with canines?

Pack hierarchy with dogs and humans is a myth, but, They DO see humans they love and respect in an authorative role. Science and vetrenary behavior have found is they do have an instinct with humans they love ( if trust hasn't been broken), they automatically want to be with us, love us and want to know what we want from them. Training and connections with his family, Sonny knows that baby is part of his family and GSDs are guardian dogs. They will AUTOMATICALLY guard whom and whatever they love and are told to protect.
BINGO! Pack hierarchy. People should NEVER make their dog a part of the family. They should ALWAYS become a part of the dog's pack instead. A dog cannot comprehend the idea of family. But they know what a pack is. And they are much healthier living that way.

And when she decided she wasn't going to stay in it so the people could do their jobs I physically put her in her bed. No testing was I going to put up with. I made the decision for her. Dogs can get cranky with age. And the last thing this dog needs is two kids eventually messing with him. Trust and caution. I'm glad this dog is tolerant. But watchfulness should always be done anyway.

He knows exactly what his dog experienced and how he behaves and its perfectly save to let him be this close to his baby since this is after he was very careful with the dog being present for quite some time and not him just being like "okay its all gonna be fine! first interaction with our baby hes not gonna do anything im sure!"
Also didn't you see him literally being crashed by the baby in the little car in his hind legs and he didn't do anything. "one noise and... thats it"? Don't make me laugh. That dog didn't even do anything to her or even remotely act aggressive/defensively when she literally crashed into his hind legs rolling down a hill with quite some speed majorly suprising him. @kuhen25, my two daughters are now in their 30"s and 3 years apart. We had an Australian Shepherd female dog. Her name was Sunny, because her yellow and white color kind of looked liked a sunny day. We got her when our older daughter was about 2 years old. Sunny was like a middle sister. She loved her human siblings.
I can see it now...Little sister get picked on and he goes, "Cover your ears baby sis." then looks at the person picking on her go into cop dog mode and says, "I have ways of murdering you a getting away with it. Keep on being a turd to my sister and I'll make you my new chew toy."
No doubt!

My dog was like that with my daughter when she was little, as soon as she went to bed he would go into the room with her and lay in front of her crib and stay there til she woke up. They had a brilliant relationship. Even now shes almost 24 and he's long gone she still has his picture in her room. RIP Odie.

Amazing how that he knows and changes his attitude and personality around a baby. So heartwarming to watch!!
Yeah, especially him being a police dog ... they are not trainedf to be nice usually, hehe. Dogs just have this natural understanding about the fragility of kids. Even the boisterous ones are usually very gentle with tiny humans.

She will never forget him no matter how old she gets. I know because I was that little girl. I have never forgotten my furry big brother Ben.
Now that is exactly how a German Shepherd should be living. Given a serious job to do on work hours with one boss, and then he can chill with his family time. The fact his 'alone time' is respected by the family, is so right. This man understands his dog's needs and that is so joyful for me.
It's adorable how this dog and child have a bond.
First, dogs can smell that it’s your baby, because the baby smells like mom and dad. :)
We see so many animals being naturally protective of the babies... and it’s heart melting.
Dogs are instinctive pack animals. They know when the pack/family has new babies. It would be the same if you adopted

Sonny knows his job, and how to be gentle and protective. What more could you ask for in a dog?
My German shepherd was very protective of me. He warned anyone that came near us that he wouldn't let them harm us. He would let me climb on his back and stand still and let me pretend he was a pony. They truly are magnificent and very intelligent. Great video 😊❤
I remember riding on the back of our Alsatian dog as a toddler, she was beautiful and so gentle. My mother would tie her lead to our pram ( I’m a twin) and leave us outside the shop as she popped in, no one dared to come near us, she was so protective.
That’s nice my big dogs pee when I walk into the house, and have diarrhea when they eat a little different food 😂

what>?!?!!?
I have no doubt that Sonny would guard his little sister with his life. She has the bestest big brother. Such a good boi, xxx
Police dogs are the best, so well trained.
My sister had a Great Dane, she would play each of us separately, in very different ways:
With my niece it was fetch and a few (obviously) play growls as my niece got the ball back from her, or just drop the ball at my niece's feet and go lay down next to my niece and wait for the next throw.
That dog has a better work life balance than I do
I've always loved doing the opposite with people's dogs at the dog park. They initially try to play with me like they would with their owner, very reserved not pulling too hard. I show them I can take it and dish it out and they warm up to playing with me how they play with other dogs. Full strength contests of will, and jumpies and nips, and I give it all back.
This ABSOLUTELY made my day better. Ty for your service, too.

My "Princess" has been gone 30 years now and I miss her everyday. Sonny has all her traits. Wonderful.
The image of a big GSD letting 2 girls put azalea leaves on his head is hilarious and adorable. What a legend being so chill.

@@tytania3545 sadly this isn’t true, most German Shepard’s develop arthritis problems in their backs, hips, and paws when they are sadly still fairly young due to breeding.

A well-trained, well-adjusted, and well-loved dog would never be anything but kind to a child.
It a simple matter of pack dynamics if done right any dog will defend any pack member with their life. And share the role of ‘baby sitting’ as needed.

I grew up with 1 active duty K9 dog and 1 retired K9 dog and I go walking in the woods alone with them at 10yrs old and nothing could get past them 2 to hurt me. If i was home alone 1 sat out front and 1 stayed right by my side until my mom came home. Greatest experience in my life having them 2 and I miss them dearly.
That’s amazing to see a dog who is trained to have such tough skin be able to live a life with his family and be so gentle his sister. It really is amazing to see animals different natures. I guess this is a prime example of man’s best friend
When he retires, he has a job waiting for him, in those two babies, he knows it and looks forward to it
Sonny is truly loyal to his work and to his family. He has a work life balance ⚖️, which I admire. You can tell that the love in Sonny's eyes looking at his baby sister, is truly breathtaking. To the parents, you're super lucky to have such an amazing and beautiful German shepherd. 🥰👏🌎🐕🦺🐾
Hello . I am Azin and I'm from Iran. I want to work on UA-cam but I do not know what time people are more active. What time of day did you usually spend on UA-cam in the last month??? Thanks
Animals are amazing therapy for children and even adults. The best unconditional love we all can take a few lessons from.
Dogs are so amazing, such a gift! We really don't deserve them, but I am sure glad we do.
When I was born (1950), my parents had a Doberman. They told me that he slept under my crib for the first 6 months of my life. By the time I was 4 years old, I knew who my best friend was. I've grown up loving animals, especially Dobies, and I was blessed to have a beautiful female Dobie for 10 years.
Sonny is the most beautiful dog, he’s Majestic and his little sister is just Stunning! I feel sorry for the Mom & Dad cause if I had those two standing in front of me and if they both want something - and if they give me Puppy-Gorgeous-Guy-Gorgeous-Girl-Eyes, oh I would be toast..! And now there’s Another Gorgeous Girl on the way -?!! Beautiful Family..!!
Hug Ice.. Beautifully said!💕

They are amazing dogs! They understand what's going on. They are very unselfish. We have had 4 of them over the years. God bless all of you.
2:37 the baby knew the stick was for the dog
Obviously he’s well trained, exercised both physically and mentally everyday and the family has done a good job communicating to him that their daughter is a higher member of the pack then him.
This is a really good point that should be said a hundred times. Proper pack training and exercise is key.
My former dog was a German Shepherd girl . When my mother passed out one day she came immediately to call my sister and I. She was never been trained. Her name was Karina. We miss her a lot.
@@judsonkr Um.... 50 years of Science, Vetrinary Behaviorists and Dog cognitive experts would like a word with you...Everything you just said has been debunked soooooo many times.
Dogs see us as humans, not pack members. Dogs aren't even pack animals...they are "social oppurtunists" like humans...which have a similar hierarchical system...
And they do know the concept of family and love...been proven in MRIs, actually...
1:57 he speaks same!
Your family is truly blessed. Please be safe, while on duty please be continuously vigilant. Thank you for the video.
That was a precious moment of the daughter pointing to Dad and Sonny on the picture. What an incredible bond. 💛🐾🐾🌞

Most dogs have something to teach humans about emotional intelligence, loyalty and love...this police dog has also the factor of behavior appropriate to the situation and how to switch between work mode and chill time

I did not just hear a dog laugh
Yes, yes you did!😂😂😂😂
Gotta love a puppy like Sonny! All business, when business is getting the bad guy, then all heart when he's 'off duty'. We love our LEO's, both 2 and 4 legged!
THIS IS ONE OF THE SWEETEST, MOST HEARTMELTING VIDEOS IVE EVER SEEN. I GREW WITH A GERMAN SHEPHERD, FROM MY ELEMENTARY YEARS TO MY EARLY TWENTIES AND I STILL TEAR UP OVER HER ,TO THIS DAY. IM 57 YEARS OLD NOW. THESE DOGS JUST HAVE THAT EFFECT ON PEOPLE..
Dogs are too good for us. We don't deserve them, but they keep insisting otherwise.
Nobody’s messing with that little girl!
Shepherds are amazing!
Sonny is obviously a great dog who, except for your family, is closer to you than many other people in you're life. How he goes from the pace of the day in the police car to gentle family pet to your childs best friend is so awesome.
That is a beautiful, beautiful family! Anyone that looks into a pups eyes and cannot see a soul is just not human.
It’s amazing how he is so different with the baby than he is on the job. His parents are lucky and blessed.
OMGOSH, Sonny’s ear is bigger than her head! Lol What a precious, precious boy!! Amazing how he picks up on her energy and she his. Thanks for this precious video!! Thank you both for your service. God bless you, Sonny and your family and I hope you both stay safe out on the crazy streets.🙏❤️
Everyone wants God to bless them or someone else. But no one wants God to curse them for being born on this planet and into sin and how we all sin each day and deserve hell and then the lake of fire on judgement day. "for all have sinned, all fall short of God's glorious standards." " For no one is righteous, no not one."
You can tell Sunny is so happy at home. He's so loving, gentle around the baby sister and Mama.
You are a blessed family to know that kind of devotion in and from Sonny.
Ребенок такой счастливый.Мне кажется,что если бы не было собаки в семье ,то и жизнь была бы совсем другой.А здесь доброта и счастье бьёт ключём!

@@mafia5509 All through the day...playing music while I work and watching videos how people used to watch TV in the evening. I hope that helps. Good luck.
@@mafia5509 Hello. I am Arazim and I'm the voice of logic. Our planet have timezones so no matter the time of a day somewhere in the world is the perfect time for releasing video. So it just depend in what language you want to make videos and who do you target. You want your native language? Then it would be best to release videos in times when people are returning from schools and jobs. You wanna make videos in english? Then it would be best to release videos in times when people in english speaking countries are returning home. Duh?
This might be the most adorable thing I have ever witnessed. A dog making room for a newborn and being a part of her family. Magic.
“it’s nice to have a partner that doesn’t talk back to you.” 😂 thinks every person in a relationship at least once during their time together.
if this dog could talk, it'd ask, "why do you hurt me and force me to attack stranger", this stuff is pure evil.
Dogs and babies just have a natural understanding ❤
Is no one going to acknowledge that thr dog is peacefully listening to the fireworks at 0:10 ?
Police dogs have to be able to handle loud noises like gunshots etc. So i guess its no big deal for him

What a hero Sonny is. No human deserves a dog, but we can try.
I love his statement about cop mode, "he hops in the car & he's all business". How sweet !😍
Well said
Badly said. Do not judge people you do not know.
You can only smile and be happy while watch this, what an amazing fam
Five stars to this goodest good boy! He's a fierce cop when on duty and a gentle floofy giant with his baby sister! ❤ He deserves lots of treats and kisses and cuddles!
