Great band! Nice to hear my old friend Rob Hardt; we worked together some back in the day in San Antonio. And Carl Saunders, the master!
What I like about Terry Gibbs bands is that everybody is able to play a great solo and they all get a chance to do it.
I've loved this arrangement for years. Nice to hear it again. Frishberg turned it into a great song, "Can't Take You Nowhere." Thanks for keeping Tiny's memory alive, Terry.
Jeff brings it home every time...class act!
Yet another demonstration of the excitement that Terry Gibbs bands consistently generate. Although it never toured, the live recordings of the great "kicks" bands that Terry has led in LA clubs since the late '50s are among the finest examples of big band jazz.
Everyone got introduced except the great Jeff Hamilton, one of the best there is.
Carl Saunders once again shows who's the real master. A very good band, this.
Wonderful!!!
Love the insertion of I can not take you nowhere ;-)
I love how the bass player Chuck Berghofer ends his solo with the bass line from Nancy Sinatras "these boots are made for walkin¨ and why not? he played bass on the original session.
Quoting himself, instead of something/someone else, ha! Cool.
Truly great stuff. Although Carl was still the daddy on trumpet, ALL the guys did inspirational solo work. A classic, this one. Nice work Terry, if you're still watching your jazz men at work.
Swingin'!!
The "A" Band!
swingin overall and good shit but i thought most of the soloists cudda made their rhythms a bit more hip and swingin. They play insane notes but the rhythms were flat (as 8th note lines are) but i think they were a little too flat. if ya know what im sayin. and i LOVE Terry Gibbs Dream Band so i appreciate this all the same. much respect.
And what do you play, apart from a big gob.???
jerd what a pile of crap, these musicians are blowing their asses off. Short solo features but swinging and fitting the arrangement.
