This is wonderful stuff. Love Shelley Manne`s drumming. I was lucky to do a couple of gigs with Bud Shank at the Bull`s Head, Barnes. Thank you Shorty Rogers.
I lived next door to Howard Rumsey in Hermosa Beach. Shorty and the band would hang out a lot. The Lighthouse was happening, very missed. Fell in love with the west coast jazz style.
My absolute idols!I had the honour and pleasure to hear them live in Turin(Giuffre was absent)and still remember that concert as a great moment!Thank you so much for posting it!
Love all these West Coast cats! Would have loved to heard Perkins play tenor--with that beautiful sound he had--and Giuffre play baritone, though. Thanks for posting!
Been listening to Martians Go Home since first recorded in the fifties I think, Shorty and Jimmy Giuffre on horns if you listen hard enough you will hear Shelly spin a coin on his snare, wow.
@@forrestlowe4823 In 90s was talking to a jazz critic about the prejudice against West Coast Jazz and he was surprised because never heard of it, and then he said: "This is ridiculous! West Coast style is great jazz."
What a great, swingin band - all great artists!!

I'm in jazz heaven!!! I met Bud Shank at NTSU ,and I played with Pete Jolly in LA in 1983
West Coast Jazz, so cool, with Shelley Manne on drums. Still sounds good today. Thanks.
Love Shorty & Crew. All Star Line Up!

They are wonderful indeed!
Very straightforward, swinging technicians, all with chops.
Nice!
Truly "Allstars" from that era.
That was excellent 👍👍👍👍

Perkins on tenor and Giuffre on baritone......that is the correct direction, isn't it?
@@peterfriedrich4632 I am afraid that Giuffre was already too weak or too subtle at the time. The others played so much louder than in the 50s!
Shorty had a great sound...I loved this session thanks
And broadcast in Stereo, which was revolutionary on TV in 1983.
He played in the Mannix soundtrack, awesome!
Absolutely beautiful music and marvellous musicians!
This looks like exactly the same band I saw at the Nice jazz festival around the same time. Great memory.
Cookin' stuff! Popo has such an optimistic feeling! Furture is GOOD.
Están tocando bonito, como siempre.....THE WEST COAST JAZZ......
Nevermind my earlier post this tune is called Popo as listed in the description
Bud Shank still played superbly innovative solos- often competing with the great Art Pepper.
Bud Shank is the better one......
So greaat!!! Stellar musicians.
Bud Shank soloed with some pretty good swing as did the others!
That, folks,is jazz!!
Thanks, boys. (Heaven's really swingin' now...)
They are legends!
Superb and as fresh as ever!

Ahhh, the West Coast sound of Shorty and his Giants .... it's simply can't get any better ...well, maybe if Frank Rosolino could have made this gig.
Milt Bernhartも忘れないで。
NICE PING PONG : Rosalino / Bernhart
@@sadatachiyo64 Nice Ping Pong: Rosalino / Bernhart
shorty rogers played on the 3 little bops cartoon!
Jazz Legends still fresh today as years ago..
Referentes absolutos del jazz de la costa oeste!!
Grandes musicos del jazz Una joya!!
Todos grandes referentes del jazz de la costa oeste!
Amazing session !
I knew that Cooper was a huge innovator on the oboe and a great arranger, but I never knew he was actually a giant.
I'll say what no one has ever said: The West Coast style is one of the highest points of jazz.
Agree & disagree: Agree, the "HIGHEST" point of jazz .. but Disagree since I have also been saying this for half a century!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know the name of the tune on this concert? It swings!!
Sensational stuff.
WAW !!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you J :D
WOW
Monty Budwig kicks ass.
Shelley Manne is still the master
Smooth
Shit Folks! My favorite Drummer ((white cat!) Shelly Manne, for Y "yong ones" heard/saw him in Oslo,Norway back in 1960!
What a treat that must have been!
an RCA artist
Not only do they not make musicians like this anymore, they definitely don’t make stage sets like this anymore.
