I understand what your saying about getting tired of fooling with the headset after a while but I think this is where console just out performs PC. the headset, especially with GT7 is absolutely flawless in how easy it is to fire up the game and go VR racing, just turn the console on, open the game, put the head set on and turn it on, done. A fan to the face solves the sweat issue. I will never sim race on flat screen again it just feels pointless now.

Your criticisms are only valid on a personal level and it amazes me how you told your audience they will get bored with it due to comfort issues when that is purely determined by the individual. Mentioning it as your personal issue is fine but shouldnt be put across as a determining factor across the board unless due to poor specs such as framerate, or poor design in shape, weight or heat dispersion factors which you have stated clearly this particular headset has none of those flaws.I have 6 headsets and of those 6, 4 of those i have been able to spend 4 to 6 hours in without a break without a problem. Comfort is so subjective based on your head shape and general tolerance to vr. Other factors for people who experience comfort and fatigue problems can look at different facial interfaces to suit their face shape, making sure the ipd is set to their individual ipd value, adjusting the headset to the the correct tightness and or running a desk fan blowing air on you while you play. Another suggestion which many find helpful is playing tracks more like monza or spielberg rather than monaco nods or bathurst. Tracks that have less up, down and windy parts and are more open and dont have things close to the track like trees and buildings can help a lot. I thought the review was great and it probably sounds like i'm on a rant but i'm really not. Just think that minor flaw in your review was worth pointing out and expanding on. Most online sim racing youtubers i have asked in the chat box say they would race in vr all the time but feel the viewing experience for the audience is better. Cheers mate and thanks for the review i really want one now lol

Me while literally never having had a vr until I got psvr2, was able to drain the sense controllers playing Resident Evil Village (using smooth turning and movement, I don't like the teleport gameplay from what I've seen before my purchase) so that's what? 4 or 5 hours?
I then busted out my steering wheel and Gran Turismo 7 while the Sense controllers charged. For like another hour or two I raced. No issues.
Well I did have a bit of an issue once I took the headset off, was difficult to balance and had a mark on my forehead like when you wear tight pants and the waistband leaves a mark. Other than that nothing. No nausea, no headache and no time spent on Zelda TotK. . . which I bought the same day as the headset.

Got it, it has absolutely made me a better driver and faster in GT7, even on controller. Suddenly several difficult corners made sense when you can appreciate the depth and look out the side window to the apex and exit.
Alongside Resident Evil Village in VR (which is excellent and genuinely terrifying 😅), the PSVR2 is worth it IMHO.

I got into VR sim-racing recently again and own a Pico 4 and Pimax 8KX to compare. Last one was weeks of pain to set up correctly, but once it's done, it's a very good headset if you own a 4080 or better and with just a click you are in VR like on display(s). I've owned the Pico 4 before the 8KX and thought it's not for sim-racing because of latency and visual quality with my former 3080, but yesterday I've checked it again with the 4080 in godlike-mode with Virtual Desktop, and it delivers. The FOV is more like 'potato FOV' with the Pimax, but the visual quality at least as good with slightly better contrasts. The problem with the Pico 4 is still the missing DP-port and mandatory Virtual Desktop. The app changes my desktop-resolution to 1080p and no way to change it, which looks especially terrible on my Samsung G9. You need to boot the headset first, choose your play-area (and after you've taken off the headset to take a piss for example), launch VD to even get into PCVR and you need at least the left controller for everything which gives you access to your desktop in VR while I don't even own controllers for the 8KX.
But there is also a good things about it. Thanks to VD you can (in theory) do everything in VR even outside of VR-games. With the 8KX I've tried to find apps to give me access to my desktop in VR and there are none (even SadlyItsBradley confirmed). You really need to take off the headset for everything outside VR and especially AC/CM is pretty awful for VR. But with the Pico 4 you need the controller(s) instead of a mouse and deal with the other handicaps. With the good performance, acceptable latency and visual quality of the Pico 4 (decent router as well) I would today not buy the 8KX again, which was even as a refurbish version (brand-new) almost three times as expensive, but clicking just 'launch' and be in PCVR without all the procedure is certainly king. The visual quality with both devices comes close enough to 1440p with rock-solid 90 fps to say, VR is with the current gen GPUs is certainly decent in terms of quality and performance (minus ACC), but the hurdles and price are certainly still pain in the a$$...

Nice! Glad you got to try/ review GT7 in VR and i think it now completes your previous review 👍 I've had the headset since launch although a new arrival and work haven't allowed me to play as much as i did in 2D. At the moment there is no going back to 2D and i hope you are wrong about the novelty waring off. I think the lack of set up and level of comfort should help with that 🤞.
Although i have lost half a second in time on average, that is considering i had GT7 since launch in 2D, but i get up to that point and consistently so much quicker in VR.
The pants cockpit view in 2D makes sense one you stick the VR on, i think the level of detail is crazy and can be appreciated much more in VR.

While everything he says drawbacks wise is true, not everyone is bothered by it, sure its cumbersome, but i bought a vive 5 years ago and i've never gone back to monitors for most titles that support vr. It's personal preference, if I were someone looking to get into it i'd say try it, give it a good chance and then you'll know. Some people get tired after 30 min, their eyes cant stand it, other people (like me for example) can stay racing in vr almost indefinitely. My advice is to make sure your pc meets the requirements for the resolution your headset has and just try it. You can always resell it if you dont like it.

Also, some people are very sensitive to screen door effect, but most can look past it in almost every modrn headset after hours of use. Same with headset weight. To me having a wide fov headset (pimax) has significantly increased my racecraft capabilities since i can see the mirrors on my peripheral vision. Others say it looks distorted and cant stand it.

V.R n especially PSVR 2 is revolutionary its more then a game changer, it truly feels like u enter the game world, can never go back to flat screen no matter how good the graphics are in comparison. The graphics in v.r still have a long way to go, n in the next 7 years it will close to the level of flat screen graphics, I cant even imagine how crazy that will be, v.r with dual qd-oled 16k screens, hdr, 480hz native, 180° field of view, with the colour n contrast of a modern tv, it will be like real life in a different world.

I've tried several brands of VR hmd's and currently own a Valve Index and they all suffer from the same problem- wearer fatigue. They start to feel heavier and hotter the longer you play. It's even worse if you wear glasses. In my case it's fun if I just want to tear around the 'ring for a couple of laps, but way to uncomfortable beyond that. The headsets are going to have to get a lot lighter and be completely wireless to ever make it practical. The immersion is there, but it takes a lot of the fun out of it when you feel like you're strapping a medieval torture device to your head.

Everyone keeps talking about a price - price is irrelevant as it is strategically set by Sony to maximise profits which are made by selling games not the units. PS5 is probably more expensive to make than what they are selling it for, just to hook you up in their ecosystem.
Price does not necessarily reflect quality, price is an artificially / strategically set.

There are high-end PC headsets much better than the Vive Pro 2 out now RC. The new Pimax Crystal is the current best VR headset for sim racing and flying.
BOE who makes the screens for most headsets on the market, just showed off their new Micro-OLED VR screen at Display Week this week. It is nearly 4k x 4k per eye (3552 x 3840) with a whopping 5000 nits of brightness and 100000:1 contrast ratio. Its colours are being measured on the same scale at TVs, which is way better than any current headsets screens are capable of. A VR hardware tech nerd UA-camr and often quoted industry leaker said it was eerily realistic and blew him away, and had no screen door effect at all. They also showed an LCD one that is 3840 x 3840 per eye and 120Hz.
You also need to realise there are much thinner lighter headsets with pancake lenses that have much better clarity than fresnel lenses (like the PSVR2) coming out now. Have a look at how small the Big Screen Beyond is for example. It makes the PSVR2 look massive by comparison.

Sent mine back. I could not cope with the ghosting due to their reprojection implementation it is nowhere near as good as ATW/ASW that Oculus has. Did you not notice any of that as GT7 is one of the worst titles with it especially when you look at cars overtaking. Might rebuy if the software matures and if Sony decides to make any first-party titles.

Stop kidding yourself, I've been Sim racing for over 20 years (I started with flight sims in the 90's).
There is nothing on PC that can compete graphically with GT7. Even the way sport mode works for ranked online racing is superior to almost all PC Sims without 3rd party applications.
PC Sims rely heavy on mods and 3rd party support too keep relevant.

I wish they would have done a pro psvr2 at a higher price point with better lens and ability to hit native 120fps and no reprojecting. At like a $800.00 price point. I'm glad they are doing a ps5 pro though because it will help psvr2 run much better overall graphics wise and fps.

it can't kill the vr simracing because there's plenty of options on pc, including LOTS of other devices that add more immersion to the sim rig, however... it gives the option to console users to try an excellent vr headset on ps5, to add the proper immersion paring with a sim rig and a top notch wheel like the CSL DD pro or the Podium F1, so the psvr2 gives an step closer to the proper direction in the full sim racing experience.
