"too nice of a day to not go flying", love it. new camera looks great. nice to see your landing technique, it made my head explode when you mentioned the risk of prop strike. my "wheelie down the runway" technique would be terrible in your Velo- er, Long- er, Cozy.
Nice job on your channel. Enjoyable to watch. Video and photography hint. Get and cut to size a flat black cloth. Cut it to fit the glare shield, hold it in place with a few velcro sticky adhesives dots so you can remove it. When you record video, it will get rid of that annoying white ghost on your canopy directly in front of the camera. Blue skies and tail winds.
Well, your videos have cost me a lot of money. I went to Nashville last week and bought a Velocity. I flew it to Tampa on Friday with a ferry pilot. Now I’ll have to get transition training before my insurance company will let me fly it.
Yes, I think the colors are more vibrant.... now that I'm looking hard thru your canopy I can't help but to wonder about the strength of that surface? Can hail from a thunderstorm crack/break it? I ask as I recently saw a lady whose had her latch fail, opening up the cockpit. Yeah, I can even see every different colored hair on the right side of your head. You're a distinguished looked chap. Nice day to take all of us flying. peace & have a Happy Holiday Season
It's pretty strong - partly because of the shape. Hail might mark it, but it would take a good golfball sized piece of hail I think to come through it. A large bird is also going to come through if I hit it at 165 kts. All that said, I have never heard of a Cozy or Long-EZ having a canopy break from impact.
Ahh, I never really considered a bird or anything really busting thru the canopy & the lady I mentioned was not in any type of canard plane. Her latch simply failed & it left the plane if I recall. The little I've come to know you I'm pretty sure you'll be doing everything you can to avoid the weather. Being up along the lakes would make a bird strike a possibility when the migratory birds move in/out? But from weather to foul or even Foul Weather you'll avoid it. Thanks for your time........ peace
I really like your fly a longs! I think you made a Great choice on the camera replacement. I didn't get to the fall leave changes and here it is and The footage is Great, Thank You!
Scott, how did you know that I was studying other Cozy landings to improve mine?!?! 😄 Certainly is timely. Now all I need is good weather to go practice more.
Hey Scott, Enjoyed the video and especially that you ended up doing your touch and goes in Elyria. My Dad was born there. Couple questions... what brand is your new camera. The videos are noticeably better... much more crisp. Also, when your doing voice overs, what mic are you using.
It's a 4K Innovv K6. The microphone is just a cheap Rode Podmic - can't be bothered getting out my expensive mics every time I am narrating a video. :)
I hear you speak about the brakes quite often, good thing to have... stopping power! I heard you mention using a flap type of slowing you down but I'm more curious about the mechanical brakes? How much wear do your brakes get on a fast running plane like this? I'm trying to understand how fast you "use up or burn" the brakes down enough to need to replace them? I mean it all depends on how much you use them but how fast do they wear to like a car? Again, I do thank you for your work(s).... fly high, fly safe. peace
The wheels are fairly small to reduce drag, therefore the brake linings are also quite small, as are the rotors. So bringing an airplane from 70 knots down to zero definitely heats them up. I go through a set of brake linings in about a year, so maybe 70 or 80 landings and they need to be replaced.
Thanks for putting a time frame into my mind, obviously stopping is paramount & this little Canard is a slippery fast bird.... lol, I knew the wheel sizes was small meaning the rotor surface was also very small. The life of the surface measured in landings based on your average speed is quite the calculation. You are very good at the analytics of this aircraft or I think you are based on some of the info you show us like the flight plan including the elevation & a whole lot more. In one video you showed the 4 cylinder head temperatures along w/ other engine data as you were trying to figure it all out. KUDO's Sir, it doesn't take much to impress me & I really appreciate how you share and teach any who wish to learn. peace until the next chapter.
Curious why you announced over the field but didn’t cross over the field? Just curious. If I was flying and you reported over the field I would be looking over the field and not in the location where you called out that location. Thanks Scott!
I was actually directly over the threshold of 01 when I made that call. The fuselage and canard are blocking it, but if the canard had not been there, you would have seen hangar rows A and B.
They didn’t call you Cozy but after today’s aero braking sortie they should be calling you Cozy Fighting Falcon. Nice video as usual.

Thanks Scott! Looks like the best foliage is right around your airport! One of the few things I miss about being back up north...

I’ve spent the week doing this same type of landing practice in a LongEZ.

Well, a lot of this video is what NOT to do! :) :)
20:26, way too fast on final
Exactly what I said in the video. Bad approach makes for bad landing.
