The lure in the video is not weighted. That said, many bass anglers throw unweighted Senkos on spinning gear because it's difficult for them to throw with baitcasting outfits. Hence the reason for this video. But even though a Senko is used in the video instead of a fly, the principles taught in the video remain the same and are applicable for lures lighter than a Senko. So pay less attention to the actual lure used, and focus on the techniques taught instead. Thanks!
I've got 50 years of fishing under my belt, and these videos are a refresher course for me, sometimes we forget the simple things and a reminder is all it takes to get another fish in the boat, thanks for info even if we forget we already knew how to do it
Glenn, Your videos are always instructive, clear, and helpful. I'm a 64-year-old BassHole who just started using a baitcaster in the past 2 weeks. Good to know I can throw a lighter lure with one, and how to do so! Keep the tips coming! (My favorites are still how to avoid getting hooked with hard baits -- hold the bait first -- and how to get unsnagged using a bow and arrow technique). Roger, The Smiling BassHole
Glenn. A big THANK YOU for this video. I kmow that this video is old given thst we are now in 2022. I was sooo frustrated with a baitcaster Lews Smash MedHeavy Fast-action 6’6” combo rod. Birdnesting was a common issue and almost gave up on my baitcaster ( was going to sell it). Taking advice of lowering the brake and loosen spool tension, My casts are now like 75 to 125 feet with a plastic swimbait. My eyes popped out in excitement. No more need to muscle my casts. A flick of the wrist and the “whip” effect of the rod did the trick. THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU
Dang Brother... Hang in there and God speed on your rehabilitation... Prayers Prayers Prayers and more Prayers my friend. Be safe out there and best of luck!
Thanks for the tips! I've always had problems casting light lures using bait casters and really the major reason why I primarily use spinning gear. Thanks for the chance to win the Rage package!
Or for those who can't resist holding there arm, use a long smooth sweep backswing moving ur bait smooth as if ur fly fishing...the set up of the bait caster is the same...definitely going to try ur way. Awesome video!!
Most reels are capable of casting a weightless senko style bait. Biggest thing is having a rod that loads with whatever weight lure you are using. The reel and line come into play after that. With the sub 3/16oz stuff, a BFS reel is ideal.
Finally, the secret is out! I have been using a baitcaster to throw light lures for years. I have an old Berkley light action rod with a pfluger reel and 8# mono line. You can get them dialed in to throw am 1/8 oz spinner or crank bait a good distance. Great combo for those days when the bass are picky and you have to finesse things a bit! Best rule, don't try to kill it on the cast!
Sir, you have informed me ALOT about light gear now. I had no idea the type of rod can really effect the cast. I thought it was all technique and casting style. Love this videos tips!
I have tried throwing light lures with my baitcaster in the past and really struggled with it. Hopefully using some of these tips will help me next time!
Thank you so much for ur help in helping me learn how to cast a baitcaster now I'm going to bass pro shop and buy me two more thank you plz keep up the great work
I have the Duckett Triad 7'3 MH paired with the abu garcia pro, I absolutely love this set-up for casting very light soft plastic rigs, I did have to adjust cast control and my brake so that I could cast these very light rigs! ty for the insight, fantastic videos!
this video will help me alot because I do fish ponds alot and sometimes it does help to use bait casters with small lures cool video will try the paper under the arm trick
This is great because my fishing goal this year is to learn how to properly and effectively use a bait caster. Really looking forward to practice this on the water.
BassResource - Bass Fishing Techniques thanks First I got myself the right rod like you mentioned (Abu Garcia blackmax 3 combo 6.6 fast action 2pieces rod) Secondly, will put at min the magnetic breaks. (Had them at max lol) Thirdly, will use the wrist and keep my arm to my side (very very difficult and takes lots of practice) Wish me luck lol THanks for this video again
I've used this tip occasionally when fishing for massive spring smallies, but for the most part I would normally just opt for a medium-light or medium powered spinning rod depending on the bait I'm throwing.
Great tips. One of the traps that fall into when casting is thinking that I didn't cast as far as the guy I was watching in the video. I am lured into trying to cast farther but swinging harder only to backlash. I think that the videos just make the cast look very far; like the writing on a side view mirror, "Objects are closer than they appear." I appreciate the review on setting the spool tension. I had always set mine so that the lure would fall slowly and stop t the floor with the spool stopping immediately. This always felt to tight.
Awesome video, Glenn. I often battle casting a light lure with my casting gear. I use medium heavy rods but will go back to my medium powered rods with your casting technique. I can clearly see your advice working. Tight lines brother.
Good pointers, as always. Sometimes we forget that the rod's action can be your friend (or enemy) when trying to cast light stuff. It takes getting control of your rod , as well as your reel. Thanks for the tips Glenn... keep'em coming.
thanks glen, this video almost makes want to buy a bait caster. tried to use bait casters in the past, but end up getting frustrated and just pick up my spin rig. great tips as always. thanks again
Turning off the mag control is new to me. I did figure out the line length thing but i backlashed all the time because I was flinging it too hard! I come here to comment so I can win the contests but as it turns out, the videos are extremely useful.
Recently purchased a rebel wee crawfish. And got upset that i got a huge birdnest. I have not had birdnest in a baitcaster in years! Soo ill deff have to apply these tips!
Is it just me or is a weighted senko not a light bait?
The lure in the video is not weighted. That said, many bass anglers throw unweighted Senkos on spinning gear because it's difficult for them to throw with baitcasting outfits. Hence the reason for this video.

@@bassresource well put
I was using just a Yamamoto senko on a worm hook weightless today no problems. Great cast! Had a terrible birds nest on a very light lure.
Unweighted senkos are not light in my book.
@@account2292 agreed. I birdnested on a very light floating lure, but the senko worm had just enough weight to cast it no problems!
I've got 50 years of fishing under my belt, and these videos are a refresher course for me, sometimes we forget the simple things and a reminder is all it takes to get another fish in the boat, thanks for info even if we forget we already knew how to do it

Thanks for the tip about not havin' to throw the bait hard! I'll be tryin' to lighten the throw a bit this fishin' season!

Just bought a small spool finesse baitcaster so this video is very timely. The tip about leading some line before casting was great technique advice.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Great tip to prevent backlash and cast far. Backlash can take the fun out of fishing. I guess you could say you help put the fun in fishing.
Hi fshng2fish. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.

The fast action tip and turning the magnetic control all the way off. Using the rod tip to fling the bait instead of arm power was the key for me

Good vid. This is definitely one of those moments where less is more. The less force you use to cast this out, the more distance you'll actually get!

Glad to help, Adam Fitzgerald. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
Just got a medium rod and was getting frustrated with how poor it casted compared to my entry level light rod... Will try this next time. Great video!

Thanks for the support, Stan Boerner, and thanks for watching!
I'm going to try this. I usually use my spinning rod because I have so much trouble casting light lures with my bait caster. Great video as usual.
Great! Let me know how you do!
this works its just hard to break the old habit of really slinging the bait out there
Thank you sir, just when I was fixing to throw my bait caster away I actually came across this video and now I'm casting alot better
Great to hear!
Going to have to try this next time I'm on the water. Usually just use a medium power spinning combo for light lures.
I like the idea that I can cast with a bait caster. Leaving the line out a little more, look forward to trying it.
Great! Let me know how you do!
Simple and effective!! Made my confidence level up!!

Another great video Glenn! You are my "go to" for techniques and advice. Keep 'em coming buddy!
Thanks for the feedback Mark Aston! I appreciate it.
That was good info. I try to throw it hard and I get backlash. Will practice this. Thanks!

Hey thanks , real good info . I always have problems throwing light lures .
Awesome vid thank you! I only recently started using my baitcaster reel and I’m absolutely loving it!!
Great video. I will have to try this the next time I'm out.
Good pointers, as always. Sometimes we forget that the rod's action can be your friend (or enemy) when trying to cast light stuff. It takes getting control of your rod , as well as your reel. Thanks for the tips Glenn... keep'em coming.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
thanks glen, this video almost makes want to buy a bait caster. tried to use bait casters in the past, but end up getting frustrated and just pick up my spin rig. great tips as always. thanks again

Hi Matt N, glad I could provide value. Which one of them did you find most helpful?
Rod action and not overpowering the cast, but allowing the rod flex to do the work. I picked up an inexpensive med/fast to practice with.
Good video, always went to the spinning gear for light lures.Have to try the bait caster.
