    Congratulations! Please consider making the plans and the software open source! That way, you open up the possibility of having a community of like-minded developers replicate your success, and refine the software and hardware to improve the rocket's capabilities.

    Magnificent work. :)
    I cannot get over the fact this is possible. The sheer weight of the electronics to do this 20 years ago would have made the form-factor infeasible; it's *wild* to me to see this pulled off with a small custom circuit and an accelerometer package the size of a kid's fingernail. And the syringe hack is brilliant!

  • @raydunakin
    @raydunakin 18 днів тому +6

    Congratulations! This is a seriously impressive achievement! Years ago I looked into the possibility of doing this but quickly realized it was far beyond my meager talents, and not even possible with the tech that was available at the time.

    Congrats! Obviously the Landing was rougher than intended, but that highlights the praiseworthy resiliency of your landing legs. A lot of the attempts by Joe Barnard and others would have been successful if they were using your leg design. You might have to change it later to reduce weight and make it easier to manufacture, but delivered your first true landing so it definitely delivered what it needed to do. Congrats again, and best wishes to the next iterations.

    One thing you could also do is add a laser distance sensor. These may add more weight but would greatly increase the accuracy. Great job, I know this is no easy task to complete.

    I've never had an Estes motor explode! You might want to check where you got it from and make sure it either was not an imposter or that it was not mishandled some way (like leaving it exposed to outside humidity, or it being very old or something like that. Alternatively, maybe Estes is going to hell like everything else these days!

    Man this is so cool! I also designed a TVC rocket system for a course project last semester and the main objective was just getting the gimbal to correct its position when moving using it using an apparatus (my hand lol). However this goes above and beyond not just launching one but also landing it upright, this is just an amazing project overall! Also if you don't mind me asking what software did you use for designing the flight computer? Currently teaching my self how to use Altium designer so I can get my own custom PCB for the flight control, but any tips would be appreciated.
