Dave Allen BBC1 1990 Show 1

- The first show of Dave Allen's BBC1 series broadcast in January 1990, infamous for the complaints that resulted from his swearing, particularly his blurting of the F-word near the end, something which was generally unacceptable on BBC1 at the time. Sorry about the grainy quality, this was due to poor TV reception.
Dave Allen wasn't merely a national treasure of Ireland; he was a world treasure! His comedy remains both timeless & universal.
Dave Allen TV shows were banned in Ireland in the 1970s and 80s because of the religious content.
@@BillyBronco73 - Wow...thanks for the info! :)
I'm in America and never knew of him until bumping into him on you tube...LOVE THIS MAN!
Agreed 100% ❤️😂😂😂😂
Lot of world treasures on youtube
The people who put their thumps down to this video, have no sense of humour. This man was so far ahead of his time. Makes me laugh very time!!
They are the people he was talking about. The joke is that after all these years, waiting for their clock for 40 years service...they still don't get it. ROFLMAO
Agree Seamus, very talented fella.
They probably dont know who he is
You have to feel sorry for them
"Thumps"? (Snicker)
He was a genius!!! Watching him or George Carlin, you realize their greatness came from these guys being Philosophers, Observers, Social Critics and extremely intelligent!!!
Knocks the socks off of any of these modern day Comedians , marvellous - still contemporary in many ways
When I was young I loved watching Dave Allen at large. And he was and will always be my favorite comedian. R.I.P. Dave Allen.
I watch Dave Allen when feeling 'down' and in minutes he has made me laugh so much my sides really hurt lol Thank goodness for youtube and the people who upload these video's, brilliant.

On television these days there is hardly anything left to laugh about, sadly mostly due to today's "moralists" who would love to silence anyone that might feel compelled to use a hearty F****. A F**** word never hurt or killed anyone, in fact it can be highly refreshing at times 😁 (Although at school kids are still being taught that we all have "freedom of speech". To me it looks more like "freedom of being hushed".)
It's totally remarkable, in that no matter how many times you watch a Dave Allen Show, you still laugh , that's the genius of the man. Thank you Dave for all the great times. "May your God go with you".
One of the greatest story tellers of my lifetime.
Glad I had beautiful entertaining people like DA unlike the dribble of today.
Funniest man who ever lived... Pure genius, a legend and the best comedian ever in my eyes. 👍 Dave Allen.
I stumbled on Dave Allen, an my night was made.
As did I! Best stumble I ever did this guy is the greatest story telling comic. I'm a yank and it's great to hear comics from other places, especially now since their's pure shite here. Political correctness ruination.
He is the best stand-up comedian in history of Earth
.
I’d agree but coming from Glasgow I’d like to include Billy Connolly in this criteria as he was a true stand up as well also coming from Clydebank I’d like to also include Kevin Bridges these are truly great introspective comedians and we need a lot more of them
What a brilliant story teller. He was so clever and very funny. The so called comics today could learn a lot from him . He was very smart in dress and his style of making us laugh . Oh so sad when the really funny ones pass on and we still have the ones who think swearing all the time is funny. So sadly missed.
How right you are!
I love Dave Allen. For all that he stands for and all that he believed in. He is an individual beyond doubt. One thing that I do love about him is he does not swear or use profanities even though we know what he is really saying. That is class.
I curse he is flocking brilliant
The great Dave Allen was one of a kind, I really miss those jokes.
Thank you for sharing this with us. Dave Allen was one of the true comedic geniuses of the world. You can watch him over and over again! He was highly intelligent and incredibly funny! I I hope that we will be fortunate enough to go to Heaven and continue to see him perform up there. R.I.P. Dave, and thanks for all the hours of great enjoyment.
The first comedian I saw live. Started a lifelong habit of going to live comedy. Forever indebted 😁
One word “genius” he belonged to the world not just to Ireland RIP Dave
What a nice human being. ...from Ireland.
Best comedian of all time still to this day, absolutely brilliant!
Totally! The comedian's silence perfected. He made his observation, stopped, let his audience think and consider, then laugh.Sheer genius.
Wow my first time hearing about this guy!!! I feel sooo uneducated in life! This guy was from the future! It’s such a shame how most people won’t even find this lesson in life. Comedy to me is real school and being taught the true values in life there aren’t too many out there these days for kids to look up to.
Legend!
Did it so well for so long.
He was the catalyst for what was to come.
Brilliant man sadly missed.
I remember watching him on WTTW in Chicago when I was a kid. These are awesome to watch again.
How very sad that he never did make it to old age. He was a brilliant comedian with perfect timing. He is much missed.
He made it to old age.
About 69, not that old these days. Not a bad age, but he had more to give I think. When he died it was one of the few times when I hear of a celebrity death that I felt genuinely saddened. Same when Father Ted died.
@@dnmurphy48 - What planet are you on? The average age of a Male is from his generation was about 70 years old. He pretty much was bang on average life expectancy.
@@matthewyabsley If I had it my way, he'd be alive and well today and still doing the rounds.
It is a shame that he is gone............ He was Brilliant !!! Thank you for showing this wonderful clip.
Yes, he was so funny...so sad that he died so young ...we don't have anyone like him today..
Genius! Many are described as such but Allen was the real thing.
Dave Allen was the best comedian would have loved to see him on Father Ted
I agree with the first part, but I don't think he would have fitted into Father Ted, very different humour.
He should have played the Pope in "Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse"
Thank's Martin for this video , i had forgotten how cleaver Dave was .
He is an original thinker of the mundane .
Around the 10 minute mark he makes the most fundamental observation that troubles the world today debt .
All the counties in the world are up to their arse in billions of debt now trillions , Who do we owe it to and where did they get it from .
This knocks on the door of the world's biggest secret scam. Most of the trillions we owe is owed to banks. Where do the banks get it from? Thin air. They print it. That's why bankers are mega-rich. It's how they've been able to buy up everything. All the major land-holdings, properties, industries, political parties, and colleges are owned by banks.
They own the media. They own the medical system. They own agriculture, food delivery, and the supermarkets. And, on top of this, they charge us interest on the money they create out of nothing. We're all slaves to the banks. They are our rulers, and we don't know their names. All the wars are bankers' wars. Take away the power of the banks to print money - to issue currency and credit - and wars will end. Poverty will end. But who has the power to
do this?
Jonathan Gems
Yes it's not talked about much but they had a debate about this subject in 2014 in parliament the first in a 170 years . You can find this debate on youtube titled Money Creation and Society ' Debate in UK Parliament .
All these debts end up at the bank for international settlement in Basel . Bis is made up of 60 banks with mainly the same people who own these banks .
All countries are in administration and everything is based on credit .
checkout Steve Mccrae expertinalllegalmatters.com he shows how to navigate your way through this credit society .
Thank You For uploading this. Dave Allen is STILL among the TOP comedians on my list. His simplistic minimal approach to the art of stand up comedy, and story telling was always razor sharp formidable, as his anecdotes dealt with any topic or subject which most of us, regardless of age could relate to, and with masterful humorous honesty, expose the human condition, as the timeless folly which can best be dealt with from the lofty vantage point of the spirit of humour. Even if that "Spirit" comes out of a bottle of Irish "liquid Gold" Thanks again!

None of my mates at school were allowed to watch Dave Allen. I on the other hand consider myself to have had one education in a million.
A great personality who from observing and exposing life managed to entertain the world by seeing and highlight its humor.
Imagine this today on BBC. I can't
my favourite comedian always had me pissing myself laughing... must be the Irish catholic in me!!!
Brilliant, he was the best. RIP David.
His delivery is sublime put simply.
Thank you soooo much for uploading this! I'm sure that you made many people (a bit) happier
Brilliant mind, all he had was microphone and was so entertaining.
Whoever got your support, might be with you .. the most civilized and forgiving sentence.
You just have to hang on the words with the genius of god's son ting abrupt comeback and then quickfire a pleasure to have seen his shows back then enjoyed by so many never fails to take stock of yourself and think I never had the time to observe but Dave did and took from us too soon wonderful guy and spot on that's why God called him up many a fine tale for Saint Peter and the Brian who just couldn't refuse RIP Dave sorely missed
Martin, quality is fine and thanks for putting this up. It seems almost impossible to find his shows eg on Amazon. he was my favourite comedian back in the §1970s and 80s. I saw him live on stage once, hilarious and brilliant.
where and when did you see him live ?
Dave Allen - one of the rare few to get an “f” bomb past the BBC when it was pretty much always forbidden.
Thank you thank you thank you for uploading this
his series of one off specials were the best he ever did whether it was either the ITV ones or here on the BBC
Thank You for the upload Reggie Perr..
Sorry Martin Welbourne 😄
Thanks for Dave Allen shows. Think he is a great comedian.
Oh my word! I guess it’s best he’s not still around! Can you imagine his act under present life circumstances? Oh but to give him free reign would be hilarious! Miss him.
HE MADE US LAUGH. BET HE EVEN MADE. GOD LAUGH. UP IN HEAVEN.
One word that describes Dave allen. And that is genius!!!
Brilliant! 👏👏👏 Allen was a comedic genius 💟💟💟
Brilliant comedian r.I.p.
Such a talented man
The best of the best. They don't make them like him anymore!
I miss him - the religious jokes were the best
there is no one better
I said i wanted to sample a drink, not drink a sample. Dave Allen R.I.P.
This guy is a genius Love Him 💕❤️💕❤️💕
He is precious, I love him ❤️😂
Grower old is possible if you remain enthusiastic as you reach the ager of 80, otherwise you will fade away unless you can Remer your school days, which complements you enthusiasm.
I agree. I have an allotment in my local village and there was an old fellow goes jauntily by, cheery word for everyone, does his garden, collects eggs for his supper. Lovely chap. 91. When I last saw him he was in something of a decline, his wife had died (they had been together for almost 70 years) and it hit him hard. Haven't seen him in a while now.
One word ...brilliance!
I watched the whole thing eagerly, not having seen him on TV since the '70s - for various reasons, like not having a TV set or living in non-English speaking countries - and it was an utter delight. But the real fun part was the gratuitous complaints which followed.
Don't you just miss Dave allan
weirdly a superb comedian who is long gone but oddly easily forgotten.
Miss him so much R I P Dave
Dave Allen was such a darling, brilliant man. There is now a great big hole in Comedy.
a huge hole in
e owe 170 billion punds - oh my, how things have changed, now we owe ten times as much.
Used to love watching his show decades ago .. for the skits .... sad to see tho he never kicked his alcohol problem.....
He could see it and use it. Thank you Dave.
Thank you for uploading this. It brought back a memories of when I was growing up in England. Any chance you have recordings of Max Boyce? he was a great Welsh comedian who told stories and his signature prop was a giant leek, active on UK TV during the 1970's/early 1980's.
A good man
Dave was great
The Greatest of em all!
brilliant comic
Class act
Genius
Every country owes billions and billions and billions Christ who do we owe it to that's as far as he could go with out getting fired back then my mum would piss herself laughing sitting in her chair watching the great man wonderful memories .
Good health Mr. Allen.
He was briliant!
Really Great
ha the same just keeps repeating again and again. Now the talking watch is a phone and is called Siri...
"If I was a Muslim, I'd be dead by now." He probably would...
He is great
Love him too ❤️❤️❤️
Best videotape
What would he have said about smartphones and *smartwatches*.
Will always be untouchable by any so called comedians of these days
marvellous!
Dave Allen telling the truth about Mullahs ;)
"If you don't play the game don't make the rules" 😂😂
Right now he is a COVID Tonic!
I wonder what he would have made of the Apple Watch.
Who on earth down votes this great comedian?
genius
A very different style, but on a par with the likes of Spike Milligan
A comedy genious ❤
DAVE ALLEN FUNNIEST GUY IN THE UK 🇬🇧 YOU MUST LISTEN TO HIS GAGS YOUL BE HYSTERICAL 😫
@10:16 He mentions Debtor nations. He asks "who do we ow this debt to?"
At the time of Bush maybe Saudi Arabia were lending a lot to the US.
Ironically 16 years later Ireland had the biggest collapse in their economic history due to world slump and a building boom. Ireland had 120% of GDP debt and was a basket case like Greece Spain and Italy. 12 years after the 2006 slump in 2018, Ireland has reduced its own debt to about 70%of GDP and after two of the biggest economies in the World, China and Japan , tiny Ireland is the third highest owner of US debt. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_of_the_United_States#Foreign_holders_of_US_Treasury_securities
Yeah you can fight it! Drink water with slices of lemon.
love dave very funny rip
His chinese is hilarious haha
@ the pope: "If you don't play the game, don't make the rules" Sooo true!
04.25+ "If I was a Muslim I'd have been dead years ago"... Hahaha
..... and Peter Brook was the continuity announcer:)
Lol! I wonder what he would have had to say about technology today 😅
