Is Marsden Cuckoo Festival the perfect little British festival?

- April is the month for celebrating the proper arrival of spring and Britain is busy with lots of festivals, many of which go back centuries. But Great Britain is an island that loves small village festivals, fetes and fairs, and this month I wanted to go to one of these, just over the border into West Yorkshire, to see if I could find one.
The cuckoo festival in Marsden celebrates the traditional arrival of the cuckoo within the Colne Valley, a sure sign that spring has truly arrived.
With a giant cuckoo puppet, a brass band, and lots of dancing groups in wonderful costume, is this one the perfect little family-friendly festival of them all?

I’m a Marsden comer-inner and Cuckoo day is great. But as Mossley born and bred, Whit Friday will always be the greatest show on earth. It’s 24 May this year
Outstanding, thanks!
Sorry for the late comment, I was out of town......
Ollie, another great watch. Allways nice to see people outside doing group activities.
Marsden look like a fun place to live.
Love your channel- so glad that I stumbled upon it! Heading to Manchester in a few weeks to see family. I might even try to pull out a few Manchester facts to impress them ;) Thanks!!
That looks like a great way to spend a day, you should have a peep at the World Gravy Wrestling Championship in Stacksteads later this year. 🙂
The Cuckoo Festival looks like a fun one
Thank you for making this video. It perfectly captures the event 🙂
Great vid Ollie and excellent do there at Marsden!
Marsden is one of those place that shows you when people care and have a little bit of money small places can do lot of cool stuff. Many other town in WY don't even have a market day bc they can't get the money to put it on. Just makes you think how much more prosperous we'd be if entertainment, social activities, and businesses could thrive in all large town so they could put on cultural event through out the year. Even just the community side, I knew more of my community as a kid bc we went to the summer festival my church put on, I don't anymore bc I always busy on that 1 day a year. It easier to be nice if you know your neighbours.
Publishing some amazing content now, well done. This and your Workington Uppers & Downers vids are top notch.
Much appreciated! That's very kind of you to say 👍
Excellent video as always. Another festival to add to my list. Keep up the great work.
Awesome! Thank you!
That was ace that. I got stuck in traffic in Marsden once when I was driving back from a water mains job in Yorks and it looked like a pleasant place to be.
Love Marsden. It's where we got married in the Marsden Mechanics Institute ...doesn't sound romantic but was absolutely wonderful place for a wedding venue.❤😊
Oh wow! Love it! No finer place than the one that brings a smile to your face
@@BeeHereNowuk It's that industrial history geekiness for us both which is why we love your Channel ☺️
Nowt wrong with the old trades institutes - they were built as places for "ordinary" folk to learn and to better themselves. 😊
One flew over the cuckoo's wall.
Haha dammit that's a much better title
Great coverage of an excellent day. This year was my first and definitely won't be my last.
You don't have to be daft to live here - but it helps! 🙂
It was great to meet you at Cuckoo Day, Ollie. I was the one you chatted to about the Luddites in the valley.
Hi Mark, yes it was great to meet you there! Hope you had a good time and enjoyed the rest of the evening 😀
A cornucopia of cuckooness!
Your lucky Ollie - they might have put you into a Whicker Man. Some lovely pubs in Marsden. Another great video
Jesus Christ, NO!!!!!!!!!!
@@MartinvonBargen you know it well
@@SuperMorgan1980 The original is a great film, love watching a good cut of it.
this looks so lovely!!! and so close to me, i'll have to try and check it out next year!! :D
i would be curious to check out some of the other festivals you've been to as well, are there any you'd recommend?
Yes the battle reenactment in Northwich was fantastic. Even if you're not into that kind of thing it's worth a visit next year.
Kinda bizarre now to see people doing something other than looking at their phone. Great.👍
Strange folks them as who are into the white rose
You know when people ask what it means to be English ...........
....... There you go, lad! Craic on!
